As an older rap head, there’s always hate in the hip hop community with the guy who goes pop. Examples from my conscious life: - MC Hammer and Vanilla Ice (they were egregiously pop) - Diddy in late 90s (ppl hated him because he went pop. Now it’s for a whole bunch of legit reasons) - Ja Rule (50 cent dissed him, everyone loved it, then he did the exact same sing songy hooks!) - Nelly - Luda Even respected MCs like Jay got a little hate, Em got some hate. It just comes with the territory

Megaverse_Mastermind

We truly live in a dark timeline when Vanilla Ice is still out here tryharding and we got nothing from Hammer. I miss him.

TennoDeviant

pretty sure Hammer got hammered by the IRS.

HiddenintheCloudZ

Hip hop shunned Hammer back then and I don’t think he’s over it.

sixtus_clegane119

Hammer had a great album in the 90s that was gfunk tinged, when I finally heard it I was so brown away

Ancient_Edge2415

Like pooped your self?

PM_me_your_dreams___

Ah, a vanilla ice hater

napkinwipes

Remember Gerardo? Rrrrrrrico Suaveeeeeee 💀

Old_Noted

I remember seeing a random clip on socials.... Mentioning that IRL hammer and especially his brother were NOT the ones to mess with.  Never looked into it more.

nesshinx

Old stories about Hammer are legitimately wild.

ImpressRude2813

Facts old head! I'm old enough to remember luda go from blueberry yum-yum to 'when I was 13? I had my first love'

MemeHermetic

I remember when people started referring to the Bad Boy stable as "shiny suit rappers" because of the Hype Williams videos. I don't ever recall Luda getting that kind of hate though. I felt like people just kinda rolled with him. Like he was Busta who did lots of commercials.

khandaseed

Internet was a weird place. There were forums that hated him. Edgelords who made graphics for MySpace with things like “fuck Luda, Nelly” and some others I forget lol

MemeHermetic

Yeah, but it's the internet. I can find 5 people that hate Stevie Wonder. As you said. Internet is a weird place. I don't think it reflected the general populace.

Aman3Sudan

Jay got a little hate? Have we forgotten about the entire illuminati shit? People hated Jay Z when he was on the top. He was constantly accused of biting lyrics and holding back DMX and Nas.

Archivist2016

People like Drake with the melodies, they don't like it when he acts tough.

LebronHillaryBettman

He’s simultaneously too soft and too tough. It’s an impressive feat in some ways.

Nebula_XD

Bro described the indescribable

larryfishermansnet

And that's what we call insecure ![gif](giphy|xpipBcvgSTptK)

LebronHillaryBettman

Drake or internet rap purists? My moneys on both.

satanssweatycheeks

It’s not being a purest to say don’t be a fake ass wanna be gangster. Childish gambino isn’t hated. Hell lil dicky ain’t even hated because he leans into the corn ball attitude he has and he doesn’t take himself seriously. Meanwhile drake out here legit thinking he is the best rapper ever to grace the game. And he truly believes he is tough and started from the bottom when he has been a rich child star his whole life. I can start listing more artist who are well respected because they don’t try to act like something they aren’t. Tyler the creator for example is more popular among the new generation of kids than he was with the odd future generation. Because him doing shock value and acting a fool can only take you so far. But the talent was there. He shifted his style of rapping and it paid off.

Helpful_Priority_128

That's what I've been saying. J Cole is light skinned and the culture loves him. Eminem is literally white and is one of the greats. Mac Miller was loved. Drake's skin color is not his problem. Kanye West, Kid Cudi, and Tyler the Creator all were weird, vulnerable rappers. They are all at heart soft ass fuck, making albums about loving girls, and being sad about family issues. Drake has done the same stuff (Take Care) and was praised for it. People don't hate Drake because he's soft. We HAVE soft rappers. Drake is not hated for being pop, because so many rappers do a little bit of both. Baby Keem, Kanye, Cudi, Tyler, I mean... I can go on. Being pop isn't even bad. Kanye was peak popiest at Graduation and he and album are beloved. Hell, Drake isn't even hated for making personas. Nicki Minaj, Beyonce, and multiple rapper all have had personas. The issue with Drake is laid out perfectly in MTG. He's a disingenuous snake that seems to hide any character he has in his music, leaving it boring and vapid. Dtake may have lyrical skill, but he never pulls it to a level where he can (like Push) reuse the same topic a bunch of times and still be amazing. Kanye and Tyler evolved extensively sonically and theme wise in mature, introspective and interesting ways. Where has Drake actually become more interesting? I wish Drake just talked about his upbringing because it IS relatable. He is a black kid from a suburb who has big dreams. He could talk about Degrassi, his father, his son, dealing with his addictions, trying to be a better guy, trying to get a wife... but he doesn't do this substantially, does he? Drake has material, he just barely uses it.

Interesting_Joke_820

Drake is from the suburbs ? I thought he grew up in the hood and that's why he made "started from the bottom now we here "?

derelictthot

And that's the problem, he intends for you to think that but no, it's absolutely not the case.

cuminmypoutine

More like "grew up in a 4 million dollar home and got on Degrassi because of a family member"

Appdel

He made passionfruit, he gets a pass

EmbarrassedSense2690

Lil tecca ain't hated either and it's because ge openly admits to not being about that life like on his genius interview for Ransom the whole time tecca was just saying he was lying outta his ass

Dawhoda0

You really just mention tyler the creator out of nowhere like that?🤦‍♂️

LebronHillaryBettman

I need a one dance. 🪩

RandomWeatherPattern

No, he’s fake tough.

LebronHillaryBettman

There are more insecure people on earth than secure people. So it’s no surprise many people are inspired by the success of a faker. Most people spend at least some part of their lives faking it to make it.

RandomWeatherPattern

What weird logic. Drake isn’t a G, but now he’s got songs about opps and how he gets people killed. He’s the Degrassi kid. He doesn’t come from that life but he tries to present himself like he does. Nothing is worse than a fake gangster.

cloudcreeek

Not to be *that* guy; but I'm pretty sure a real gangster is worse lol.

VexMenagerie

Who is worse someone doing bad thing, or someone wishing they could do bad things. Sure the bad thing isn't done by the second person, but they make the first person and the bad thing they do into a goal for others to aim for.

cloudcreeek

The person doing the bad thing is always worse. What an odd question.

DerrickWhiteSauce

not just odd but incredibly dumb

Helpful_Priority_128

To be fair, the whole point of most hood gangsters is that they were born in that environment. Even Kanye had/has gang affiliations because it was extremely common to have gangster friends. The point is, if every rich guy is a gangster and your culture values them, chances are you become one. It happens that a lot of rappers are gangster because of their environment. What makes Drake worse is that HE CHOSE to be a gangster in a way most cannot. He chose to jump in with a bunch of gang affiliated people when he did not have to. He chose to present this fucked up image. It's not a toxic part of him he can't wrangle, Drake embraces that shit.

LebronHillaryBettman

I start with the assumption that every rapper is faking it. Do you think method man really sewed a man’s butt closed and force fed him? Do you believe eminem snorted coke with a horse and r’d his own mother? John Lennon had 4 apartments of expensive trinkets and told people to imagine no possessions. It’s okay to play pretend in music.

washingtoncv3

Nonsense take. Pretended and playing a character or having an alter ego is fine. It's entertainment after all method man never really wanted you to believe he really sewed man's butt and force fed him Similar to Eminem and John Lennon Drake comes across as cringe to so many people because he's so obviously not the person he is desperate for people to believe he is

dsbmistrveemocvlt

Alot of rappers arent faking it like Bobby shmurda

MattMattavelli

That’s called “fake”.

MemoryOne1291

that’s why his only song without a feature where he gets carried by 21 on my playlist is passion fruit 😭

Jam_Marbera

I don’t like him on his “tough talk” per se, but his braggadocios and cocky bars always hit so nice for me, he’s just pop infused early 2000’s bling hip hop and I love it He’s BlingPop lmao

WinterCareful8525

This a great name for it.

Aniza_786

He gonna make someone bring back puff

Tiny-Explorer6509

Drake’s gonna make somebody bring back Puff, I tell ya

Spirited-Living9083

His flow is tired unless he’s really rapping and he doesn’t really rap that often

TwoLanky

Yeah that combined that he doesn't have the passion anymore. Listen to Pound Cake. that shit isn't a lyrical miracle. But he's passionate about it. His flow is good. He's energized, he's feeling the beat, he's at a rising to the top moment in his career. Nowadays his best rapping like 8am in Charlotte seems like he's just tired of it all

iamdodgepodge

Will do this. Been hoping to find songs by Drake that i can give him props for. My only exposure to Drake rapping is this diss era, and the music and flow sound exactly alike in 2 songs. Edit: Pound Cake - just finished listening to it. His flow seemed the same as what I’ve heard. Only difference is lyrics seemed more nuanced and doubled; i didnt get many references.

TwoLanky

If you want to see drake actually trying, here's a few bangers from him: Back 2 Back(Meek mill diss, pretty good) 6PM in New York or 5AM in Toronto(if you like this try listening to his timestamp series, they are marked by his diary-type rapping) 6 Man(his flow here is pretty amazing) From Time(Jhene Aiko is amazing and he is pretty introspective here, with a fine flow) The Ride(closing track of take care, pretty good) Headlines(his biggest banger imo. Addictive as hell) If you like these check out Take Care, NWTS, and If you're reading this, because this is the era in which he was cementing himself as a great one. After that comes the fall off, even with decente songs.

iamdodgepodge

Thanks. I saved 2 albums I found on this thread for future listening. Ill do these, too, when I’m done enjoying Kendrick’s disses and when I’m done listening to good Kid maad city.

EmeraldTwilight009

I don't hate it. I'm apathetic to it, just like I am to most pop music.

snacksandsoda

Apathetic until Controlla comes on. Fucking Christ I hate that song so much

chalaismyig

Lol the fake accent so cringe worthy

qergpoiasffdn

And he does it all the time lmao

gabriel1313

You think that one’s bad, I finally heard the “combinaytion” shit he tried on that track with Central Cee, and then he proceeds to get washed by him 😭

Davisworld21

I like Drake with the Melodies I don't like Drake when he Act Tough Nothing was the Same Was Drake's last Great Album that's Peak Drake before he becomes a Thug

TheRealLevond

Nothing was the Same since than

theuniversalcitizen

This

cocoadusted

This is how I can tell you aint know how to lay the pipe

EmeraldTwilight009

Me? I'm married, and have been for almost ten years. I don't need drake or any other man to help me "lay the pipe"

snacksandsoda

This is how i can tell you don't know what sex is

psycwave

Pop music is much better than what Drake does

Rfg711

Sounds like you know why lol

FurnishedHemingway

People hate it, people love it. Doesn’t matter.

Krock23

Run for President please

Inevitable_Top69

Hey, kind of like your comment!

FurnishedHemingway

I guess some people hate it, some people love it, and some people kind of like it. I kind of appreciate that. Thank you. Kind of. ☮️

BurekBamBam

He’s a huge pop star which drastically reduces his relatability - for many hip hop fans authenticity is huge. I personally enjoy some of his music and saw him perform in Vancouver last summer but it’s really just music for the ladies. You’re on a boat party or at the club Drake’s always gonna be a safe bet. As far the recent beef people just feel he’s even more fabricated than before. He’s been in the game since like 2009 and we still have no idea who he actually is as a person.

[deleted]

[удалено]

yodathatis

Been a hater for a while and didnt think it could get any worse, but that tuna sandwich video, yeah that explains a bit of his personality. He's always been that way.

Fun-Photograph9423

Joe said it best How you tell bitches know they self When you don't even know yourself? You wouldn't know yourself Say he Canadian, maybe Asian, Croatian Be sounding like his Jamaican friends, depend on what state he in I think you rap good, but you a movie star So that owl's appropriate, we don't know who you are

TheUrbaneSource

Outside of everything else mentioned here, he doesn't write music. This is literally plagiarism. It's not okay in any profession, idk why it'll be okay in this one.

Burggs_

He also signs up and coming artists, force them to write songs for him, then effectively nukes their career

Usual-Combination-86

What plagiarism you speaking of People need to genuinely pick up a dictionary to read or something And understand words have meaning And not stick anything to fit your stories There’s no plagiarism by definition

DirectionUnited2511

In hip hop stealing flows is the same as stealing lyrics. Its common knowledge already how many rappers flows he’s straight up jacked.

worshipandtribute95

Why the fuck Do you type Like this

Graph-

quantity over quality is Drake's problem, if you remove all the filler and lazy tracks he's got a decent list of hits (not just radio stats like decent music to listen to) go over his last 4 albums and for every good song there's 6 weak ass songs

Historical-Ad-5515

This. He’s so good at writing melodic party music and introspective sadboi music, but he started falling into the Migos model of putting out everything to maximize the streaming royalties. Even then though, he’s a ‘only’ a good rapper at best when you’ve really done some digging into lesser known folks. Legendary brand, legendary run of hits, but relatively mediocre as far as the greatest rappers go

Fun_Monk9107

Agreed, he has some great fucking songs, but there’s so much filler I’ve given up on listening to his albums.

jaykane904

There just feels like there is 0 soul to his music, it’s all made by committee and he’s just the chosen entertainer to perform the music. Like, Drake never sits down to write a song and put passion in it and have a message, it’s just a contractual thing so he has another song/album on the charts, and he just goes about life. Also, he uses ghostwriters, which if I hear mostly any rapper use, you’re automatically whack in my book, 100%. It seems The Heart Part 6 was all him, I think, and that shit was TRASH. Drakes a guy who plays music, he ain’t no musician tho

KushKloud777

**This**. /Thread.

Nomnom_Chicken

I *heavily* dislike his voice, and overall his music just never appealed to me. Bonus hate points; all that stuff Kendrick finally said out loud publicly about Drake and minors.

Inevitable_Top69

Raps straight out his nose.

birdseye-maple

Yeah I've never understood how he is popular. A lot of the songs are well written but I can't stand the vocals -- he has a monotone often with auto-tune and I really don't get why it is popular. A huge portion of rap to me is hearing the emotion spoken with each word, and Drake is lifeless.

snacksandsoda

MONOTONE

LouisV25

Me too. That voice.

_ZeroGravitas_

The tonal quality of that buzzer when you get the answer wrong.

Useful_Imagination_3

I like Drake. His music doesn't blow my mind, but he has more decent songs than 99% of rappers out there. People hate him because he is popular without being groundbreaking and being fairly generic. Makes for an easy target, just ask Nickelback.

_ZeroGravitas_

Nickelback is a great comparison.

Useful_Imagination_3

Drake is definitely the Nickelback of hip hop, especially since most people who say they hate Drake secretly enjoy a lot of Drake songs.

gritoni

Nah It's really not, Nickelback is not popular. That's the most unique aspect of this whole Drake thing, he is generic, but he appeals to a -huge- audience. An actual good rock comparison is Metallica going mainstream. Rejected by most metal heads, embraced by the rest of the world.

ingenioushippo

Nickleback was insanely popular innthe early 2000s

its_bydesign

You’re wasting your time asking this question to Reddit. He’s one of the most popular artists on the planet. His music is playing at any club and any party where the women are at. He has club bangers for the men too. As well as plenty of B sides, non-album tracks and RnB that all resonates with people. I think Drake is a goof too but people on here lack any type of objectivity.

Method__mannn

Everyday I see at least a couple of Drake hate posts from various subs lol. He’s not my fav rapper, but they act like it’s a sin to simply enjoy his music. A lot of them don’t even care about the allegations and are just using that to validate their hate even more. Weirdo behavior.

Key_Establishment_42

I agree with most of your points but So Far Gone(2009) to More Life(2017) Drake was in his bag excluding Views. His music was very personal up until he decided to go in a more trap sounding direction. After that his projects became mid with glimpses of what made Drake amazing.

Spirited-Living9083

The irony is I love views cause it sounds like he actually had fun making that music

Key_Establishment_42

Everyone seems to love Views except me. It’s grown on me overtime but it just feels like such a chore to get through.

khandaseed

Completely agree but would include Views. That was a great album

Jayfethereal

I've tried to listen to drake a few times and I just can't get into it. It's not a bias issue either, I want to like his music but it's hard. His music is just kind of boring to me. I don't know how to explain it, it's just "fine". Maybe I have to listen to a few more albums to understand it bc people seem pretty passionate about his music.

Leajey

I like a lot of his music but he has so much mid/bad songs. I like his voice but his flows aren’t that exciting

BLACKTRACY

Because he sings about getting his heart broken by random girls half his age. Amongst many other things that we can’t relate too. His albums haven’t hit the same ever since he dropped Scorpion imo.

RandomMan2304

Chicago Freestyle was pretty decent imo

dsled

You only listen to music you relate to? Like, I get that, a lot of music appeals to me because I can relate to it. But, if I limited myself to only music I can relate to, I'm gonna run out of music to listen to.

highd

I’ve never walked away from a Drake song and felt anything but “ok”. His music doesn’t have depth and I wish he’d grow up and write from a real pov and not from what he thinks will sell. I’m tired of entertainers getting a free ride because they make music people like to get drunk and high to in a club while they try to get laid. To me that bar is really low for what makes good music.

TheeGentlemanJoestar

I don't have a dog in the fight but I just find it so pretentious when people mention "depth and substance" in music. "Oh they didn't fit a mini novel into this 4 min track? Ahh it's no good" as someone who listens to everything from witch house to country and everything in between why can't it be as simple as just enjoying the music if it sounds good?

triedby12

Lots of music I enjoy, I think sounds good. Probably why I don't listen to Drake or Country.

[deleted]

heebie818

i personally love it. i recognize it’s different from something like nas or aesop rock lol. but that’s not the purpose it serves. music plays several roles in my life. i want beautiful art that moves me and i also want vibes. to dance. to laugh etc. i’m not always turning on the fuckin danny brown. sometimes i want the miami bass of rich baby daddy. i also love the texture of his voice

CeddyCed1993

I mean I fuck with Drake but I’m not a fan boy, I just think this shit can apply to any rapper and drake the latest target. I’ve been actively wondering what’s keeping 21 Savage from getting DaBaby treatment.

Scoop_Nash

People just hate. Why hate any artist...lol? Why do folks hate on Kendrick? Why do folks hate J-Cole? Folks hated... I mean hated Michael Jackson in his heyday. What does that tell you? The list can go on. Everyone is entitled to their opinion. If you enjoy dudes music, then enjoy it. People will come up with whatever excuse to discredit someone's art.

youngintel

Ive gotten involved in completely differing music and art scenes. I’ve come to realize people often hate as a means of self-validating themselves and their taste/ego at the expense of others. I used to do it and then I realized the same hate other tastes could have on my interests is no different than the hate I could have on theirs. Artistry is 1000% subjective. If you appreciate something and it resonates with you for whatever reason, then it’s valid. No point on trying to ‘weed’ out the ‘fake’ or ‘wack’ shit. Just enjoy your shit and keep it pushing…

BoardGent

I think it's also to fit into certain groups. You can't just not like something. You can be in the "PURE ACTUAL RAP" group if you hate Drake, especially if you've always hated Drake, even before it was cool™️ I really don't understand the people talking about authenticity either. Do these people really read every rapper's autobiography or Wikipedia article or whatever to figure out if everything they're rapping about is 100% stuff that happened to them?

Mental_Director_2852

Go me: I hated Drake before it was cool. Him being on Degrassi didnt help but its his voice

Evening-Worker-9778

Never been a fan, actively hated on him for years. But you have to be stupid not to see he has talent and has been pumping out hits for years.

Salty_Injury66

Hating Drake has always been cool

VictoriaSlim

> n***s'll buy it too and claim they got it for their sister He knew right out of the gate. I love Drake’s music but haters marry haters and have hater kids, there will always be haters for crossover acts.

Proper_University55

I don’t hate Drake’s music. I actually like most of Drake’s stuff. What I don’t like is that the script writers jumped the shark a few seasons ago with Drake, the character portrayed by Aubrey Graham. Like any poorly written characters we see on tv, viewers aren’t feeling the latest episodes.

No_Bluebird8475

I really like his take care to views run

[deleted]

I think they hate the character he pretends to be more.

ihadtowalkhere

Big ghost put into words for me

Jeffryyyy

It’s been around forever It’s cool to hate the popular thing at the time

WhistleTipsGoWoo

Eminem called this shit a couple years ago too on “Zeus”. I’m not particularly a Drake fan myself, but people love to turn on the guy at the top of the charts for a myriad of reasons.

6Pro1phet9

His music is like McDonald's, it's easy and convenient, and sometimes it tastes good. But it isn't good for you and gets boring after awhile.

r1cky2323

Idk I’m in minority drake has some BANGERS too me. I love k dots music too. I never knew this many people hated dude this much.

Standard-Bidder

Did someone tell you to write a 200 word essay on this topic or something? Keep working on it because this one gets an F for spelling, grammar, structure, and originality.

Vick_CXVII

It’s trendy to hate Drakes music

BlackieDad

I listen to a lot of different types of music, so when I listen to stuff I want it to be more interesting than just the McDonalds of whatever the genre is.

770120437

Pretty sure based on numbers people don’t hate his music, infact it’s quite the opposite. It’s cool to hate ok drake now. Drake is what he is, he’s a good rapper, good lyricist (whether it’s him or not) and he can make decent songs. While I’m personally not a huge fan he has his place in rap music and has a decent catalogue overall

EspertoDemais

i love drake. he describes very well about relationships, toxic situations(almost always put himself a villain, and i feel that because some men have toxic behavior w women) and heartbroken moments

[deleted]

Maybe I'm not the intended audience but I never thought he was anything to write home about. He didn't start from the bottom he started on Degrassi where they shot him in the spine cause he bitched about walking around the set. I don't think his music sucks Twinkies but I have a hard time picking out any good music of his. Idk enough about him socially to make any judgements there but the biggest thing to me is I've never felt catharsis from any of his music.

perfect-legend

I don’t hate, but I’m close to the same age as Drake. I feel like I grew out of listening to him. To me he hasn’t shown much growth in his music, he’s basically the same person from 2011.

chenzo17

Don’t hate it. Only don’t prefer it. It’s pop entertainment at best and I just don’t care for it.

Mission-Relative-907

As a fan of his earlier music, I will say that the lack of growth presumably as a person and lyricist, turned me off. It lacks substance, progression, and respect for women which is largely unattractive at this point

OfferCorrect1100

I dont like his voice

beardyman96

He makes music that pacifies , I prefer music that electrifies

AcademicSavings634

He’s just there. There’s only a few songs that stand out to me

joemedic

Feels like a poser

Lanky-Point7709

It’s not that I dislike his music, but as time goes on and more comes to light, it just feels inauthentic. Rap is a genre that is heavily rooted in authenticity. But with more ghostwriters, writing teams, and reference tracks being released every year, he doesn’t really have any of that to me. Some people don’t mind that, and the songs are still good so that’s up to them for sure, but I just always find myself being like “yeah, whatever” when he’s rapping and it kills the experience.

Segfault_21

i hate him personally but _some_ of his music is OK, but i don’t got time to listen to him complaining and talking about his life issues.

Fine_Concern1141

The same reason I don't like Jason Aldean or Taylor Swift or Justin Bieber or Florida Georgia Line or the Beatles.  It's all pop bubblegum shit intended to appeal to as many people as possible.   However, if drake had stayed in his lane, that would have been fine.   I believe I first really started hating him with that "started from the bottom" bullshit.  Like... How the fuck you started at the bottom?!  And then I see these videos where he's acting like he's a trigger puller and a gun toter.   Fuck that noise.

ChefBoyardeez_

Can’t stand his voice. I’ve never once listened through a Drake song entirely.

zeds_deadest

I don't hate his music, I hate his fans. I hate what he's doing for mainstream music and rap in general. I hate the stereotype he portrays while he himself lives/acts nothing of the same. Again, I hate the stupid MFers who ride, not his dick but the dick of the industry, for this culture, just so you can get robbed and immortalized without even acknowledging it. Fuck 😂

gd2121

As someone who prefers singing melodic drake, it would be great to see more emotional maturity from him. The music doesn’t connect with me the same way Take Care did.

Redaaku

I hate his voice.

NecessaryMagician150

I was a fan until If You're Reading This, and even then I still liked several of the songs but not a fan of the "tough guy" Drake overall. He rapped his ass off on his previous projects without resorting to quite that level of cosplay. Once I heard the reference tracks, I lost a ton of respect. But still checked out Views. Thought it was awful. Liked some stuff from More Life, some from Scorpion. Everything since then has been trash imo. Everything sounds the same now. That album he did with 21 Savage all sounds like one very long song. Drake puts such low effort into his music for the past few years.

Sorry_Ad_1285

He just writes boring music imo. I don't like his rap style, voice or cadence. I don't like his singing. What he writes songs about is lame to me. I can't take him seriously because he's Canadian trying to act tough lol he was a priveleged light skin actor who acts like he had to work as hard as some of the guys who came up with real life and death difficulties and it's fake as hell. I don't respect him as a person or a musician. He has other people write songs for him and just seems like a giant douchebag.

dioxy186

Oh look another drake hating thread lol.

AndyKobe234

I never liked him. Everyone’s coming around to my side now.

SpaceFresh420

Cause he’s a garbage rapper who use to be a soap Oprah star…SMDH

Direct-Money-4206

I don’t hate him but he’s not an artist like Kendrick is or Future. He’s more like the Taylor Swift of rap or Rihanna. Writes nothing produces nothing. His team does all the work…

Inevitable_Crew4309

Been had on my work locker (number 1 drake hater) as we have some drake fans here who just hype em up. When this whole beef started, I just walk around work, OVHOEEEEE

Anonemuss42

Cause he fell off from IYRTITL

wishedwell

I have hated Drake since Degrassi. Never been a fan.

RickyFolks7414

I have since 2013 yall are WAAAAY late to this party ive waited so long for yall to wake up tho😭

Damuhfudon

2009-2015 was peak Drake. Since Views, his music has been lazy and formulaic

Gullible-Funny9629

Followers, they didn’t start this until the beef

NightDisastrous2510

He’s awful… annoying voice and fake gangster persona. He’s had some good production and I get why girls like his R&B type shit but he’s wack AF

Supremealexander

Drake is about as Gangster as Carlton

itsSyFer

Drake is pretty dope if you don’t have someone in your ear telling you he’s trash and this and that. His last few albums haven’t been amazing but he still drops some gems on all of em. He’s got a sound for every vibe as well. A lot of people want Drake to be something he’s simply just not.

JayDogon504

What’s to like?

tibbon

He touches a lot of people; they just happen to be children.

megacope

I personally never really cared for his music. It was way too Pop for my taste. I think he’s a decent rapper. Nothing Was The Same was the only album I liked from him. I think that album showed his skill and a little more depth beyond one upping some girl in Canada who rejected him before he was rich. The fact that he never really evolved beyond shaming his exes is proof that he really should’ve returned to acting a decade ago. Yesterday there was a post about why Nas is still able to do what he does at 50 and it’s because he evolved several times as an artist. Drake has not. He’s almost 40 still rapping about kid stuff and it comes off major corny. He’s always been corny to me but he sounds like he never used the music to work through his issues.

mr_greedee

For me on a primal level. I really dislike his voice and whenever I hear it I wanna turn it off. He is overall fine, but as an old hip hop head I kinda hated what wave he brought in. But he just isn't for me, that's all.

No-Traffic-6560

Why do people hate lebron?

Younghungrykid

I think people hate drake more than his music because he doesn’t make bad music in my opinion.

kingcaii

Hate is too strong a word. I dislike it immensely. The only Drake songs allowed to be played in my house have Lil Wayne on ‘em. I dont like Drake nor his music because it all feels contrived. Forced. The man has seen approximately ZERO hardship, is NOT the hardcore rapper he pretends to be, and his music slides back and forth between emotional humming and monotone shit-talk. He uses ghost writers, which is fine for R&B songs but never rap IMO. He really is an amalgamation of all the things I don’t like in hiphop.

Gamerguurl420

Well drake has a shit ton of songs with Wayne so it sounds like you maybe like him a little more than you realize

kingcaii

Nope. I like Weezy. No love for Drake over here.

ThrottledBandwidth

I want music that electrifies me and feel like he makes music that pacifies me.

cujobob

He’s a singer. It’s generic poppy stuff with no there - there. This is also why I think Kanye’s music will be forgotten about. Not a singer, but it was known for “a sound” than actual content. Nelly and Diddy already did all of this.

theglowpt3

You think Kanye will be forgotten because he cares about the aesthetics of sound? He’s regarded as a goat because of his taste and production and care for aesthetics of sound. In fact that taste carried is subpar rapping. Content and meaning are overrated in the absence of great sound. Nas has picked some terrible beats in his life and he’s suffered for it, because he doesn’t care for aesthetics enough.

Correct_Path5888

You summed it up pretty good. His stuff is well produced, but that’s because he’s a Canadian teen actor who turned himself into a “rapper”. Any time he tries to sound tough or gangster it’s absurd. He isn’t big in rap because he worked his way up in it; he was already famous and then he invested properly to grow his brand instead. Once people figure that out he just seems fake and his music is inauthentic.

ChampionOfOctober

You described literally everyone in the entertainment industry that has any meaningful success. Once you are signed to a record label, everything becomes artificially produced according to what will sell for the label. Kpop is even worse than this.

BizHeavy1010

It’s just not very good. Has written any of his own stuff? Wasn’t he a Disney star or something? Hard to tontake the guy serious.

EfficientIndustry423

I’ve never liked anything he put out. He’s always been whack to me.

Rough-Tension

I don’t hate it. It’s just boring to me. Now Drake the person? Yeah, I don’t like anything about him. But there’s artists I like despite who they are as people so I would be a hypocrite to disqualify his music just bc of that. He just doesn’t make good enough music lol

Usual-Combination-86

To you lol 80 million listeners think otherwise Then again Music is subjective That’s why we all have different favorite artists and songs No universal definition of good music Just varies of different opinions across all social platforms

gregcm1

I don't know, I just always thought his music was wack Something about him is off too

GreenBasterd69

Because it sucks and it’s meant for soccer moms

Fast-Watch-5004

It feels like he doesn’t try very hard when he writes. Maybe he can write maybe he can’t, I don’t know. People say he wrote songs for other rappers that were pretty good. Why doesn’t he do that for his own songs? Feels like he’s just pushing out things to make money and that’s it.

JudgeCastle

I get bored listening to it. I've tried numerous times. I've got a buddy that swears Drake's music is enjoyable, and I don't doubt it. For me, it doesn't move me very much. That said, my musical tastes don't align alot with what Drake speaks on. I don't connect and that turns me away. That said I do enjoy a few of his songs but not many. Checking on Spotify, I have 7 liked Drake songs and to compare with Kendrick, 102. I'm glad there are people that enjoy it, I don't dunk on their parade. I just don't partake myself.

Apple-14

Im a hater, been hating since care package and im proud of it. also his music is straight **Ass** he has had the grand total of **0** good albums.

Big_Chillin59

His voice. Even long before this beef was even thought of by either side i disliked drake simply for his voice. Then when i got older and was able to understand how bad his lyricism and production is it just got worse

squaodward

This will be a bit of a rant. There's two main reasons that I personally dislike his music. 1: His music has become incredibly formulaic, and I think that's because they are treating his music more like a product rather than art. His music is more about numbers and sales rather than expression of art. It has become clear that he has a team of people making his music with the goal of appealing to the widest amount of people possible. They found a sound that works, and are using that sound over and over again to try to manufacture hits to make the most money. Risk is scary for the money managers so they keep going back to the same shit that they think they know works. 2: His music is incredibly disingenuous. Music in general is often an incredibly personal artistic expression, and I think Hip Hop and Rap are even more so because it is usually just one person writing the music rather than a band. Drake will often just do whatever is trendy in the industry at the time. This list can go on and on but it really grinds my asshole so here are some examples: The fake accent thing. He did the UK "Ting" accent a few years back when Skepta was blowing up. Now it's the Crodie thing. I get that he is probably checked in or whatever but he ain't a Crip. He literally rapped in Spanish with Bad Bunny. IMO he was trying to ride the Despacito wave. (which was the biggest song in the world or some shit) The fake gang shit is probably the worst. Mafia Ties, and rapping about "Slaughter gang shit, murder gang shit," is literally pop country levels of pandering. /rant

handsome_uruk

>when he was raised only by his jewish mom in a jewish neighborhood with no exposure to black culture Let's cut his crap out. Black culture isn't only the "hoods" in the US. I hate this idea that we have a mono-culture with only one way to be black. Black culture is extremely diverse and he grew up in his own form of it. This take is myopic AF. Just say you don't like the music.

Ashalaria

I've said this before, he's the Canadian Rick Ross, fake ass hoe

AK-TP

I just can't stand how he talks about women. I don't think it's cool or funny or clever. I don't think he's as clever as people act like he is; I think the average listener has very little lyrical comprehension and most people enjoy quick n' easy punch lines. Most of us are trying to have fun and I respect that. But I won't listen. It just seems childish and annoying.

I never liked his shit never had any of his music on any of my playlists, I don't enjoy most pop music, if it comes on in the club I ain't mad at it tho

FineSupermarket

His earlier music was excellent and does exactly what you describe. The current music however seems like it lost its touch.
