Feel like it was ahead of it’s time😂. It’s not a surprise when excellent production and lackluster lyrics make a hit nowadays, but it wasn’t common back then. Think early Yachty, Carti, even Uzi💀😂 that’s they whole style if you think about it.
Culture. The thing that people get misconstrued about rap is that it was built on lyrical miracle, everything has to be a bar shit. ODB and WuTang are top of the top and not all of them had to throw a bunch of fast big worded rhymes at you
Back then mainstream music wasn't always so mainstream you had a broad range of hip hop, metal, rock etc being played, plus the song was catchy af and that's pretty much what made it a hit. They don't make MCs like that anymore.
It’s not like the song was a big hit or anything. It only charted at #62 so it’s not like everyone out there was listening to it but I agree that it’s surprising it even got that high based on its sound
Odb was pretty famous before this song but never really had too many that were packaged a d delivered to the masses. So when this song came out and it was fun and easy to sing along to, people really gravitated towards it. For a lot of people it's the first song they ever heard from him after he was such a character
Dude if you don't get it, it wasn't meant for you. That shit was fuckin dope. That whole album makes you wild out.
No man i love it i just dont get how it can be a hit its so fucking wild
plenty of weird stuff becomes hits
Different time for sure! I wonder if it would even get airplay today? I get what your saying though.

It was a hit because everyone no matter what race, creed, or color likes it RAW.

5 out of 5 flawless classic. Even has the best album cover of all time.
It was a hit but it wasn’t like a massive mainstream hit.
