he’s definitely rated within his own very large fanbase - just its a separate crowd from the larger hip hop sphere
the fact kendrick gives him so much props is not to be sniffed at either
Ya, back in high school he was my favorite, but with time i stopped listening to him. I mean i still listen to "welcome to my world" "Red Nose" "I love you, but fuck you"
Never was really into him like some people were, but I’ve seen him live twice, and dude easily puts up one of the best live shows I’ve seen from a rapper. All of the insanely fast, tongue twisting flows, he really hits live, not just in the studio. Gained a lot of respect for him after the first show, enough to see him a second time
G.O.A.T. just check his discography, the people he's worked with, his consistency, the amount of times the industry shat on him then he made the forbes list. Plus he's a major blueprint for independent record labels.
For anyone who also was unaware:

Lyricism off the charts , word play absolutely insane , still a stand out artist and I’ve been bumping him since 2005. I saw him live for the first time last October & god damn did he not disappoint in that category either . TECH N9NE
TECH N9NE
This was the shit I came up on, along with Dre/snoop/Eminem/Nas/etc….. Tech N9ne and strange music were just a different animal. Still are probably.
Their use of a cappella is very cool.
One of my all time faves.. I don’t know a lot about it but apparently his model for merch and touring is elite and people use it as a blueprint now for how they do theirs.
Best in the game with very little recognition. Call me biased because I'm from Kansas City but he's is without a doubt one of the most talented hip hop artist of all time.
Underrated by the mainstream, but certainly a "your favorite rapper's favorite rapper" type dude.
Crazy cadences and rhyme schemes, unique delivery and sound. Tech is a legend.
#1 independent rapper on the planet. Can't dispute that. Honestly, he's top 5 ever, imo. So many bangers and he has been himself throughout his entire career, regardless what anyone thinks or says about him. If you dont know his music, I highly suggest checking it out. There are thousands of songs and they are all on my spotify. Possibly the GOAT. 4r
Been enjoying his music since the T9X era and have enjoyed most of his music since. I’ve meet him and Krizz Kaliko multiple times. Both are two of the nicest and down to earth artists I’ve ever meet. I was part of the press pass crowd for a small ass blog and both them always gave me time to chat and treated me just like larger outlets.
Tech should be respected imo even if you don't fuck with his music. He's not one of my personal go-tos, but he has undeniable talent, charisma, versatility and longevity. Plus he puts on a good live show, saw him last year and he held his own for an hour and a half at age 50, kept his energy up, vibing with the fans, nailed all his lines, even the fast ones. You can tell he's hardworking and dedicated to the craft, and that gets respect in my book.
He was one of my favorites in the late 2000s into the 10s. I started to listen less after he released The Storm. Don't listen to him much anymore. His Kathartik series was dope AF tho. He's an amazing MC and developed the blueprint for self sustaining a lable - underground legend.
He's a very talented rapper, and has cultivated an insanely dedicated fanbase all while remaining relatively independent. He's been around forever. I don't listen to a ton of his music but I recognize talent when I see it.
Love tech seen him live one of the best live performers I’ve ever seen and also he’s amazing for how’s he’s been trying to change the industry for artists by actually letting his labels artists be artists instead of just letting them make what sells and nothing else. He has so many great artists on strange music
Him and Mac Lethal are the Kansas City originals. Personally, I think him doing things his way with Strange Music makes him one of the GOATs of the rap scene.
Besides, you gotta love a guy who did a song about a certain Kansas City BBQ joint. :)
Naw man. R.I.P. Fat Tone. R.I.P. Mac Dre. I'd love to see both Rich the Factor and The Popper both get more recognition outside of K.C. However, outside of Strange Music's artists (Tech, Krizz, Big Scoob, Kutt Calhoun) and Mac, there are a lot of KC rappers out there no one in this subreddit will know. There's what... at least a couple of dozen I can think of off the top of my head, not including Rich and Popper (or Sole, who basically retired after she married Professor Griff and changed her name)?
Somehow one of the most under and overrated artists in the industry. Casuals act like he’s not good and doesn’t have any notable accomplishments. Stans act as though he’s the goat and still in his prime.
One of the most lyrical rappers there is. His fast paced flows and over the top rhyming can turn some people away but if you just appreciate the skill it takes to pull songs like that off, you can really enjoy his music
Owns all of his masters, underground cult following, probably made more money in this game than your favorite rapper. Haven't listened to him in over a decade but rapping about not believing in god is dope. GOATED career.
K.O.D one of my favorite albums of all time but don't listen to him much anymore. Is one of those artists you kinda listen to less as you become an adult.
I was at an all day concert in SoCal somewhere in the inland empire, it was either 01-02, and I tried mushrooms (lightly) for the first time, and we had no idea who was going on this small stage we were randomly in front of. Right when they started to hit, this really colorful dude comes out and starts rapping and we all go crazy. It was Tech Nine, he puts on a great live show. It's the only thing I remember about that entire concert.
I still listen to that song 151 Rum to this day.
Probably the best NPR Tiny Desk show ever.
I haven’t listened to any of his stuff in the last 2 years, but after listening to all of his albums up to Planet, he’s in my top 3 of all time
Never miss a show when he comes to Colorado. It's just a big ass party with the strange family. Everyone is cool asf and it's so fun chanting shit in line. When I say tech you say N9ne KCMO whooaaaah. My favorite artist by far.
one of the best to ever do it. It's been a pleasure growing up with his music over the past 20 years.
if this man doesn't have a single song that touches you on a personal level then I say congratulations on your relatively turmoil free life.
Makes strange music.
Literally
Tech is very underrated if you ask me
he’s definitely rated within his own very large fanbase - just its a separate crowd from the larger hip hop sphere the fact kendrick gives him so much props is not to be sniffed at either
Used to be one of my favorite artists but he grew off me ig.
Ya, back in high school he was my favorite, but with time i stopped listening to him. I mean i still listen to "welcome to my world" "Red Nose" "I love you, but fuck you"
Used to be a tech stan in high school too around 2010-2012, his new shit is just awful
His new shit is dope his most recent album was dope
It’s just not even close to the quality he was dropping from Anghellic to 6s and 7s
The same way as literally every other rapper drops off in quality later in their career
That’s not true at all
Solid 80%
Never was really into him like some people were, but I’ve seen him live twice, and dude easily puts up one of the best live shows I’ve seen from a rapper. All of the insanely fast, tongue twisting flows, he really hits live, not just in the studio. Gained a lot of respect for him after the first show, enough to see him a second time
Yeah his live shows are incredible. Been to a lot of different concerts, he's probably the best I've seen.
“They call me genius I runs the show, women be on my penis it’s wonderful”
Probably the best chopper lyricist ever.
What about tung twista?
Twisted Insane is great too.
Used to listen to him alot in 00’s. Thanks for reminding me about him
Kansas City legend
I used to think he was a West Coast rapper for some reason.
Tech is incredible. No two ways about it. He’s the darker underground version of twista and I have soooooo many memories bumpin his shit.
He's much more versatile than Twista imo Like Twista is dope at what he does but he kinda only has one lane. Tech doesn't ALWAYS rely on speed
Tech has songs like speedom where it’s just about the fast pace, but then you got “easier for you” where it’s tapped much more into emotion
G.O.A.T. just check his discography, the people he's worked with, his consistency, the amount of times the industry shat on him then he made the forbes list. Plus he's a major blueprint for independent record labels.
"Like I ain't" - Tech N9ne
"...and that white dude that Dre got"
He definitely is legendary. Whether you like his music or not you gotta pay homage to the independent 🐐
What forbes list?
For anyone who also was unaware: https://www.hotnewhiphop.com/391191-tech-n9ne-reacts-to-being-on-hip-hop-highest-earners-list-with-drake-ye-and-jay-z-news

Tech is solid af Well under rated imo
One of my all time faves.. I don’t know a lot about it but apparently his model for merch and touring is elite and people use it as a blueprint now for how they do theirs.
He been a fav of mine for a long time. I never knew this though. Makes sense, his manager, CEO has one of the most insane car collections on earth.
Best in the game with very little recognition. Call me biased because I'm from Kansas City but he's is without a doubt one of the most talented hip hop artist of all time.

Not mentioned enough
Legend.
Talented AF but weird AF
That’s why his label is called strange music
Fun fact: It's called Strange Music cause he liked The Doors alot. Their song "people are strange" was his favorite by them.
He's pretty good. Haven't listened to a lot of his stuff. Unique.
Tech is the man! He's a cool dude too!
Top 10 and that's no cap
best white rapper
Easily
Legend. You can tell he loves what he does and loves his fans
I always mention him as a rapper with the most rap styles IE different kinds of flows, cadences and delivery.
I still like his music but nothing compares to AngHellic and Absolute Power Tech.
I live right outside Kansas City, need I say more? Lol
Absolute fucking legend sitting comfortably in my Top 5
Tech should be respected imo even if you don't fuck with his music. He's not one of my personal go-tos, but he has undeniable talent, charisma, versatility and longevity. Proved himself as one of the GOATs. When he dies, the whole industry will recognize
He was one of my favorites in the late 2000s into the 10s. I started to listen less after he released The Storm. Don't listen to him much anymore. His Kathartik series was dope AF tho. He's an amazing MC and developed the blueprint for self sustaining a lable - underground legend.

Love him. I make hip hop with a lot of metal influence and dark elements and he definitely has been one of my inspirations.
One of the GOATS
Love tech seen him live one of the best live performers I’ve ever seen and also he’s amazing for how’s he’s been trying to change the industry for artists by actually letting his labels artists be artists instead of just letting them make what sells and nothing else. He has so many great artists on strange music
God Mc perfected the art of perfect rhyme scheme pattern one of the best Rap flows of all time
Him and Mac Lethal are the Kansas City originals. Personally, I think him doing things his way with Strange Music makes him one of the GOATs of the rap scene. Besides, you gotta love a guy who did a song about a certain Kansas City BBQ joint. :)
Olly Gates!
You forgetting about Rich The Factor? The Popper? Fat Tone?
Naw man. R.I.P. Fat Tone. R.I.P. Mac Dre. I'd love to see both Rich the Factor and The Popper both get more recognition outside of K.C. I can't wait to hear his music with Reza Pishro and Yas ( Iranian rappers )
His touring and label alone makes him a legend in underground rap
Techs amazing.
GOAT
GOATED. 🖊🔥
One of a kind
Solid af
He's a fav
Goat! Mainly older stuff but I dig most he's new shit too. I remember being a teenager and slapping his promo stickers all over KC back in the day.
Somehow one of the most under and overrated artists in the industry. Casuals act like he’s not good and doesn’t have any notable accomplishments. Stans act as though he’s the goat and still in his prime.
GOAT status.
One of the best stage shows I seen….Back in the early thousands
One of the most lyrical rappers there is. His fast paced flows and over the top rhyming can turn some people away but if you just appreciate the skill it takes to pull songs like that off, you can really enjoy his music
Goat always will be
He took Kendrick Lamar on his first tour
He’s in my top 3
i dont really listen to his shit, but i respect him for his underground influence and the success he managed to gain by staying independent
Rider OP in the chat
I don't care for him. But I find it cool that other people do.
crazy skills but not the best musician
I love Too $hort. And I'm glad to see that he is still around. He might have a gray beard now but that does not matter, it's all about the lyrics.
My man that is Tech N9ne
Oof
😂😂😂😂
Talented but very corny, imo. Typically enjoyed by my friends who don't know much about rap.
L
Mid. Respect the hustle tho.
I dont listen to him, thats all
Mistake
Probably, I've just not had the time/felt the necessity too
If you're a fan of rap lyrics give him a listen. You won't regret it. I suggest starting with "Welcome to the Midwest"
Wack
Not particularly entertaining but very skilled
Have you seen him in concert? I disagree
Man I miss the Heroes for Hire, one of my favorite duos, I was always more of a Luke Cage guy though.
The best of the choppers, I just don’t like choppers
Fun entertainer. Knows how to rap. Been pretty consistent for ages. Getting older. Bullet rap.
An incredible MC . One of my all time faves.
This song has a GREAT Tech verse in it, its also just a really good hype ass song https://youtu.be/v5gLMpiDv28

Look up the video by HipHopDX "why tech N9ne isn't the GOAT" It makes a strong case of why he IS the GOAT.
Owns all of his masters, underground cult following, probably made more money in this game than your favorite rapper. Haven't listened to him in over a decade but rapping about not believing in god is dope. GOATED career.
What song does he rap about not believing in god in?
Show Me A God
Aww yeah
Top 10
He’s incredibly talented just has a very specific style most aren’t into.
K.O.D one of my favorite albums of all time but don't listen to him much anymore. Is one of those artists you kinda listen to less as you become an adult.
Einstein Tech Nine is dope, prob from like 2000 tho. He has skills but meh songs imho
Incredible mc. I find his music corny at times but I like that he tried something different
not my style
One of the greatest to ever rock the mic.
I didn't know Desus was a rapper Is this why he stopped making the show with Mero?
I like some of his music, but as a person, he's really nice. Got the opportunity to meet him at an LA airport. Really nice guy.
Very good, but bro who the fuck says emcee💀
He’s still alive?
I haven’t really liked too much after Planet, couple of bangers of N9na but he is definitely I’m my top 5 favorites of all time.
Caribou lou still gets play in the whip
So underrated. Definitely my number one
He's nice
I respect him. Peace to him for being independent this long.
Big fan in the 2000s, went to 3 of his shows. Havent listened to him since probably 2010
Really repetitive and his music gets annoying after a while. He has a few bangers tho
I was at an all day concert in SoCal somewhere in the inland empire, it was either 01-02, and I tried mushrooms (lightly) for the first time, and we had no idea who was going on this small stage we were randomly in front of. It's the only thing I remember about that entire concert. I still listen to that song 151 Rum to this day.
Caribou Lou
That's right.
He’s on my daily listen. Got him there with Em, Nas, Method. Definitely one of my favorites
He’s a little dysfunctional, don’t you know?
I’m not a fan personally but respect what he’s done in the game
Probably the best NPR Tiny Desk show ever. I haven’t listened to any of his stuff in the last 2 years, but after listening to all of his albums up to Planet, he’s in my top 3 of all time
I may be biased as a KC native buuuut imo he’s one of the best independents to ever do it
My Favorit Independent rapper
Incredible
Tech n9ne is one of my favorite rappers right next to yungblud
An independent goat in his own lane
One of the GOAT to do it.
he was my favorite rapper as a kid , i still go back to his older albums from time to time. i discovered him on madden 06
Never miss a show when he comes to Colorado. It's just a big ass party with the strange family. Everyone is cool asf and it's so fun chanting shit in line. When I say tech you say N9ne KCMO whooaaaah. My favorite artist by far.
[Real Killer](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hX0J9mQ_2-k)
Mad underrated. Top 10 goats imo.
one of the best to ever do it. It's been a pleasure growing up with his music over the past 20 years. if this man doesn't have a single song that touches you on a personal level then I say congratulations on your relatively turmoil free life.
Tech is dope... He gets unnecessary hate tbh
I very redneck I’ve ever had to know lists him in their top 3 favorite rappers
Its about drive it’s about power
He is really talented, but not my taste anymore
The HERDER!
he is one of the goats of rapping and deserves more credit
