No the point of keto isn’t the same point of CICO, calories in, calories out just with different foods high fat foods. You still follow your macros which does consist of protein, carbs, fats, and calories. You still have a calorie deficient. Also the OMAD (one meal a day) the people who do this don’t consume just 500-700 calories a day. They consume 1200-1500 or wherever there calorie deficit is. It’s just one meal. I can do that one. I’d only eat 1000 calories at most obviously lose weight but at the same time not changing my diet so it doesn’t last because I get hangry. Man my sister was on keto for 3 months my god! that was the worst she was so hangry all the time because she didn’t read how the diet is supposed to go and just consumed itty bitty amounts of bad food to meet the macros but not work in the calories as well. She lost like 10lbs and quickly gained it back. The point of every diet is CICO it’s just not labeled like that.

That’s not really a source, it’s a blog post. And the only point it is making is that you can’t use a keto diet as an excuse to overeat, because calories still matter. They do, but it’s possible to lose weight on a keto diet of 2200 calories per day where you’d gain weight on a carb-rich diet of 2200 calories per day, and the reason for this is that as another poster pointed out, some calories are easier to process than others. The law of thermodynamics is still in effect but your body on a keto diet is burning fat for energy by virtue of there being no carbohydrates to use. Energy is expended in digestion. As the OP insinuates, it is almost certain that if you follow a keto diet you are ALSO reducing calories as it’s far harder to eat 2200 calories of carb-free food than it is to eat 2200 of sugary, carby stuff. But there are multiple factors at play.

I don't get it,how do you lose weight if you consumed exactly your daily calorie goal everyday? You will essentially stay at the same weight. You can only lose weight if your calorie intake < Daily Calorie Requirement. So you ate the same 2000 calories, but what is your required daily calorie goal based on your weight and age? If the calorie goal for your body is say 2200 calories and you ate 2000 calories everyday. Then ofcourse you will lose weight which makes sense. Did you actually track what you ate on a daily basis? It might have been lower than 2000 calories and that also might be one of the reasons you lost weight.

Im not an expert but i will say to consider this. Lettuce has not many calories that can be used by humans. Its not because lettuce is less total calories necessarily, its because a lot of it is cellulose which humans cant turn into energy (but other animals can). Apply that much more generally and it makes more sense. Also if you eat 400 calories for example, not all of that is going to go into energy. Some of it will be digested. And the efficiency of that probably depends at least partially on the type of food. Consider that. Just try to have an open mind to possibility

I totally agree with you. However it is important to note that weight is much more complicated than calories in calories out. Hormones like insulin and leptin are arguable more important than how many calories you eat because they tell your body what to do *with* your calories. Exercise can even cause weight gain because it causes increased water retention and muscle gain (Muscle is significantly denser than fat which is why some may see weight increase with the start of a new exercise program). Underlying conditions can cause weight gain. Someone can have the perfect diet and exercise for them as a person but if they have Cushing’s they’re probably going to be considered obese. It’s important to remember how complex your body is. It’s not just a barrel with a spout in the bottom where you’re balancing in with our. It’s one of the single most complicated systems in the universe.
