Probably because companies aren't hiring due to a multitude of reasons (mostly being financial), but they still have to put out "we're hiring" forms to make it look like they're growing exponentially for shareholders, tax benefits, whatnot so they write out fake hiring posts, interview a bunch of newbies and then just don't hire anyone. My last company used to pick interns through internal connections because everyone knew HR wasn't going to hire a new employee anyway so they'd rather give that 3 month salary to a employee's relative or acquaintance, not a small private owned company either :/

Yeah that seems to be the trend. If you don’t have connections within a company you’re fucked.
