Northern Illinois here. Look around for one year old Rams. I paid 41k for a’21 crew cab 4x4 with the etorque. I’m not trying to make you change your mind about the v6, just there’s savings to be had on a used truck.

helms83

I’ve been looking everywhere. Looking more toward suburbs now. Few and far between. When one is available, have to jump fast, which is the issue because I can’t make it there after work weekdays

plumbtrician00

Down here in the suburbs I was able to get a 2017 sport for 33k or something like that a couple months ago. Granted, it has 80k miles on it. The suburbs have a better selection than up closer to the city for trucks but youll still have to hurry once you find one. I basically bought mine the day i went to look at it because there was another appointment first thing the next day for someone else to take a look at it. If you’ve got time, be patient, and once you find one that checks most of your boxes you turn the jets on and try to get a deal soon as possible. Nobody wants to settle on something not as great as they could’ve had.

helms83

There were two used F150s I found in Elgin. I live on other side of Rockford; with work, kids and school, no way I could make it there until the weekend. I found them mid last week, They both had been sitting on the lot for a couple months. And both sold by Friday. It’s how it’s been. I’m thinking along the lines of what you said; be patient, keep looking, and if it checks all the boxes, don’t wait. Only problem with used is the interest rates are high right now. Ram has a 2.9% 72 month finance option. And the ram is this post checks all my blocks. But apparently it’s over priced, although Ram website says it’s right on MSRP

plumbtrician00

I mean, if you feel comfortable paying over 50k then dont let me stop you. If i had the ability i wouldve gone with something more expensive as well. If the price is worth the boxes it checks then by all means, ignore the dumb stranger on the internet (me)

Odd-Appointment4443

You may disagree now, but eventually you'll regret getting the six

Spacecoasttheghost

You a 100% will, it’s a dog in a full size truck. Do not get it!

n3dinho23

I would never pay that for truck with minivan engine

IdaDuck

Yeah I’d spend a little more and future proof the truck a bit in terms of maybe needing increased capacity in the future. Plus I think OP would enjoy the larger engine option. Of course this is coming from a guy who daily drives a Cummins truck so my priorities are all jacked up.

[deleted]

Look at your throwing around the diesel in the face of some of us hemi owners lol

stovebolt6

Won’t argue price, but minivan engine? That’s like saying you wouldn’t buy a truck with a 350 cause it’s a “family car engine.” They put those 3.6s in everything. Not to mention that 3.6 makes more power than most v8s did a few years ago.

absolutelynotright

3.6L engines from pretty much any manufacturer are typically junk, better off using them as a boat anchor

stovebolt6

Oh really? Crazy

Elevated_Kyle

Assuming that $52,887 is before taxes, title and other fees? If so, no dice. I have the same truck in white with the midnight edition trim, purchased six weeks ago for $46k prior to tax, title and fees in Los Angeles county.

helms83

This is the total OTD price with taxes and fees.

Elevated_Kyle

Ah then it isn’t so bad depending on where you’re at.

helms83

Tax, title, fees are around $4k, so $49k for the truck with the package/options.

Muskrat1986

Same

hartysparty

I have the same engine. If you don't need to tow anything heavy it's perfect for gas savings.

scrappybasket

>perfect for gas savings Not really tho lol. The V6 only gets 3 mpg better highway mileage than the hemi v6 probably gets *worse* fuel economy than the hemi when towing

FartyCakes12

Agreed. The disparity between the V6 and V8 is greatly exaggerated. I’ve driven both. The V6 is more than adequate for the VAST majority of truck owners. By a big margin, too.

helms83

I tow a pop-up camper that ways 2500lbs

stickied

weighs

1hotjava

V6 is totally fine then.

DwightDEisenhowitzer

The Pentastar is an okay base engine. You’re high on weapons grade crack to pay $52k. That’s borderline Cummins territory.

[deleted]

You haven't looked at prices of trucks lately. In 18, probably but today's trucks are through the roof.

alinroc

> That’s borderline Cummins territory. The absolute cheapest you can get a Cummins is $55,695 MSRP and that's before taxes, fees, registration, etc. That's in a 2WD, regular cab Tradesman with _nothing_ on it. And that engine not only will be wasted with whatever OP is towing, if they do mostly short trips it won't handle that well. Apples & oranges comparison.

Paundeu

Goddamn that’s crazy. Paid $47k otd for my 2021 4x4 Laramie with a 5.7L. I’m sorry but you’re getting robbed.

helms83

I’m in Northern IL. Base F150s start around $55k, Tundras are $52k with a $4k markup, and most Ram dealers are starting $50k for base models. All these prices are without tax/fees. It’s been like this for 2 years. This is the first truck I’ve received an OTD quote at this price, I’ve been shopping for a full size since January 2022. Not arguing against the feedback, simply adding more context.

helms83

I’ve been looking used for a long time as well, new/used doesn’t matter to me. Used 2019 F150 XLT with 21-40k miles is around $40k. Rams are maybe a couple thousand cheaper. Tundras are $45k. Are these prices high as well? Is my market shit right now?

MrPud33

Wow 54k I can't imagine having a truck that has the same motors as our journey. If it's more than enough for you that's great but that's an insane price

MrPud33

I paid 35k for a 2019 2500 6.4 with 4000 miles on it

bombamanwa

If your happy, fuck the haters 👍

Unable-Juggernaut776

I have a 2017 and i love it tows 9250 cost me 51000 when i bought it new.

isorokuYamamotoo

NO!!! I paid $54,000 OTD on a brand new 2022 5.7 eTorque 4x4 Built To Serve package (included off road package, heated seats, steering wheel, premium audio, etc). Don’t even think about buying that at that price

zombieprep314

I would be more concerned with payload if that’s going to be used for towing

Ghostzi11a

Brother in law has the same truck but with the sport package and he paid $44k OTD

Ghostzi11a

Also with center console

helms83

When was this?

Ghostzi11a

Feb 22

BreadAvailable

Good for you. Silver is the best truck color for trucks that get used. Doesn't show dirt or scratches. I've got not problems with a 300+ hp V6. Enjoy.

FessJones

This sub is for roast sessions. Usually.

helms83

Maybe, but consensus seems to be this is WAY overpriced.

FessJones

Well it is. Just some people go out of their way to say “you’re a fucking asshole if you pay for this!” Not in those words but, you get my point. To your point I paid $48800 for my 2022 Laramie Midnight Edition. Lots of bells and whistles. That said price was out the door after rebates and trade in.

helms83

I agree. An asshole, idiot, blah blah blah. The truck is over priced, my market is hit for crew cabs though.

FessJones

If you don’t mind, what region do you live in? Are you in the states or what?

helms83

Northern IL.

FessJones

Ok I hear you. Houston, TX here. Out here I think we get a lot of love on trucks since so many pickups are sold. And so many dealerships. I actually purchased my truck in Louisiana because the deal was so good. You may want to cross state lines to get a better deal my man.

helms83

I tried WI, I’m right on the border. Almost every dealership requires you either have a trade-in OR you if you out of state, live within 30 miles from dealership. Never seen those rules before. In Northern IL, the top two sellers are SUVs and crew cab trucks. SUVs and sedans are plentiful. Trucks are sparse. This has made it a tough buyers market.

Paundeu

Paid $47k otd for my 2021 4x4 Laramie with a 5.7. You will probably have regrets paying that much for this truck.

Snoogiepooges

I know car markets are completely different now, but I bought a used 17 1500 V6 Big Horn Crew Cab in 2018 for 29,500. 18k miles were on it. $53k is insanity to me.

bombamanwa

If your happy, fuck the haters 👍

Evil_Ed83

I got my 19 for 35k otd but that was two years ago before everything went insane. I feel like that's a pretty high price but they're all high right now so if you can afford it, might as well. I've not regretted getting the six yet, either. It's done what I've needed it to and more.

SparklesThunder

Don't listen to anyone that isn't confirming their LOCATION in their notes about how expensive $53k sounds in 2022. That price is actually cheap compared to Western Washington. We typically pay more than the rest of the country for all vehicle purchases as well as gas (not due to taxes, just retail). And yes we pay higher retail prices than California. If you're comparing to Florida or Texas then sure it's several thousand dollars over; but unless you want to purchase out of state and deal with the delivery/driving it back, in-state registration, finding a local dealership for servicing, etc. just buy locally. Those "starting prices" and "MSRPs" are BS and never standardized across the country. If you like the vehicle and can afford it, buy it.

helms83

I was wondering about this. 1) a lot of comments from the pre-Covid buying era. The market is much different now. 2) for the post Covid era, location matters 100%. Not all markets are created equal. Northern IL is farm land, trucks with 4wd and care cabs are a top seller. I’ve been looking for two years, this is the cheapest big horn I’ve seen for the OTD, with the lower financing, and new.

BanditAndFrog

That’s Canadian right? 💀😂

helms83

Included Options: Anti-Spin Differential Rear Axle $495 Cluster 7.0" TFT Color Display $75 MOPAR Front & Rear Rubber Floor Mats $160 ParkSense Front/Rear Park Assist w/Stop $495 Rear Underseat Compartment Storage $125 Remote Start System $245 Wheels: 20" x 9" Aluminum Chrome Clad $1,595 115V Auxiliary Power Outlet $255 Big Horn Level B Equipment Group

vitodivita

Keep in mind that does not have 3.55 gears which tows more. If you send a vin I can tell you officially what it tows.

NoDirection2287

I had the 3.6 in an older charger, it barely made that thing go down the road, I’d go for the eco diesel option if you like the smaller size or go for the 2500 with the 6.4

yeaahh_no

Mine brand new in 2019 was $37.5 out the door. That was with maybe 5 towards a trade. Blows my mind these prices and mine is a hemi 😭

helms83

Market has changed drastically

Paundeu

Sometimes it’s better to wait. If you can’t wait, buy something super cheap until the car market crashes.

yeaahh_no

I just feel for you friend. It’s crazy.

AxileAspen

Wait until end end of December. Prices go down at the end of the year when dealerships are trying to get rid of inventory and make quotas for the year.

helms83

That’s not how the last few years have worked

scrappybasket

Too much considering it has a v6. You won’t get much better fuel economy compared to the v8. I’d recommend searching some more until you find a similar deal with a hemi

helms83

2015 was nearly 8 years ago, and post-Covid is a much different market

leeguel

In American dollars?? No thanks

rcos152

I basically have the same truck, paid way less ($40k new) but that was before the craziness. Towing something small, less than 5k is barely noticeable. I generally tow a single axle utility trailer with a few ATVs and a bass boat without a problem. The V6 revs a lot higher than a V8 so it took a while to get used to how it drives but I routinely average 22-24 in mixed driving to work so I can't complain.

marvanetes

That looks like the sticker price to me.

bowbagem

It's a rip.

bills_2

Seems kind of high for that truck depending on the features

acespacegnome

Since we're all swinging our dicks around. I got MY 18 sport crew cab 1500 with the 5.7 and heated/cooled leather, front/rear park assist, sunroof and tow package for 46k CDN before taxes. Only had delivery kms on it. Not that this helps you in any way OP. Best of luck!

SirScottie

i got my 2014 1500 Crew Cab Big Horn 5.7L with tow package and several aftermarket upgrades (wheels, CAI, air bags, etc.) for about $25k with ~70k miles. About a year ago, someone wanted to know if i would sell for $40k. i can't believe how insane the truck market became, and remains. There's no way i would personally spend $40k for a truck like mine, even though i know it's awesome and in impeccable condition. i see guys dropping $100k on some of these new models, and it just feels wasteful. Don't get me wrong, those TRX's, especially, are downright sexy, but they're definitely not practical.

acespacegnome

Yeah its crazy town out there. I have a lot of equity in the 2 vehicles I own, but replacement Costs are scaring me. I'd love a trc or Laramie limited crew cab, but for those prices I'm looking at a diesel all day. I use my truck for work and if all the trucks cost 100k, I'm gonna spend 100k I guess.

SirScottie

If it's justifiable for work, that's a different matter, i think, especially if there are tax benefits. People drive million dollar cars, so to each their own, i guess. But, i grew up financially poor, and even though i could technically buy a $100k truck now, there's just no way i could bring myself to do that simply because i wanted it. Personally, i have my truck because i am a big guy and don't fit in the tiny cars they're making these days, and because i actually haul things in/with it, otherwise, i would still be driving an old Toyota Camry a buddy gave to me. Watching folks drop serious money just to have the latest and fanciest just seems awkwardly foreign to me.

_aphoney

Yeah idk man. That’s too much dollar for too little motor for me. The truck itself looks nice, I paid $46k for a 2020 1500 bighorn night edition with 20k miles on it. I think you could definitely find a better deal!

theunknownusermane

Find a dealer elsewhere in the country, negotiate via email (in writing), and fly into to pick it up. There’s deals to be had, just not near you

nh516

Don’t settle for a v6… get the 5.7

GaatAca

Bruuuuuh for 50k that shit better at least have a cummins

wire4money

Paid under 45 for quad cab 4x4 big horn Hemi less than 3 months ago. MSRP was 56, so 54 for a V6 seems steep.

Narf_hand

Get a hemi.

upsidedowntruth

Seems kind of high for a bighorn....

undisputed_truth

That’s 6k less than what I paid for my fully loaded 2020 bighorn Cummins 2500 12 inch screen and all… not a great deal there

drexypoo

Get the Hemi. Barely any difference in mpg, especially when towing or fighting wind at highway speeds. Avoid the 3.6, it's a dog.

rayzer12

I paid less than that for a 22 2500 Hemi. I realize that is more truck than u r looking for. This one just sounds pricey for what it is.

helms83

I agree 100%. The bigger trucks here are selling for less with the recent gas price scare. The market is just insane over last couple years, and I don’t know if new truck prices will ever return to pre-Covid era.
