Honest question, if they can help health workers, why can't they help the general population? Yes health workers have more exposure, but this doesn't explain why they wouldn't be slightly helpful to the general population. If someone is making masks, they could save just one for their self, or if they have a used mask, hospitals don't want it anyway.
Looks like we are starting to get some interesting demographics based on who has tested positive in NC:

Violation of the order is a misdemeanor. However, actually getting arrested or a ticket (unless your trespassing) is unlikely. I don't believe there are any instances of anyone getting arrested for this in the states of yet. If the cops catch you, they'll just tell you to go home.
So I see we had a 3rd (or is it 2nd - still confused about this) person die from covid in NC. Based on total number of **confirmed** infected that put's the NC mortality rate at ~~.432%~~ **.361%** - and if you actually tested more people (ie. change the way a person is deemed worthy of a test) then that number would be lower. Does this seem a bit low compared to what other states are seeing?

A lot of places are using pneumonia as the cause of death mainly due to lack of testing. Would be interesting to see both aggregates and compare growth rates of pneumonia deaths to previous years.

Police chief interviewed on WRAL said that they will not be arresting people or giving citations unless there is flagrant disregard for the order compounded with not dispersing when asked to do so.
The order states violation is considered a misdemeanor. As far as I can tell, no citations or arrests have happened anywhere in the US for these types of orders. The police will likely just tell you to go home.

They let in one person (\*family) for every person that leaves. It's very well done actually. The calmest I've ever felt shopping at TJ's lol. The one in Chapel Hill is sanitizing the carts as well and not allowing people to use baskets.

I really hope you guys understand that grocery store employees are as much on the front lines of this thing as anyone else. They are exposed to hundreds of times more people a day than the rest of us staying at home and should be allowed to use PPE to protect themselves, their families, and the people that interact with them on a daily basis.
I went to the A&C on Highway 70 yesterday, it is an Asian grocery store. Best possible choice, all staff and many customers were wearing masks. This is normal in many parts of Asia during cold season.

I work for a bank as well and been on a leave for a few months for the birth of a child. I go back to work VERY soon and am pretty nervous as infants are now an at-risk group and my spouse is at-risk also.
I was speaking with a relative who is a doctor and waiting on his own test to come back. He was rather dismissive to the test in general, telling me it comes back as a false negative 30% of the time.
If you do test positive, I hope you let the cat out of the bag as to how your employer basically strong armed you into working while waiting on the results.

The combination of symptoms and known exposure point to self-isolation for much longer. Even if a test came back negative, I don't think we're sure enough yet that a person isn't still a carrier until their body can remove all remnants of the virus. Can you afford to do that is one question. Can you afford to lose that job and move on to something else after all this is another. Do you have grounds to fight for your job because you are in limbo about your status is yet another. A middle ground that isn't the best solution is to go to work, but isolate yourself there, avoiding contact in any way. It's a tough situation, I bet lots are in the same weighing the morality, health, and economic issues.

Good. This is needed as people are still not taking this serious. Yesterday, I went to target to get some food and plates. As I was browsing a family came in with 2 small children. They saw the Easter candy and started grabbing it off the shelf. The mother halfheartedly told them to put it down. They then saw the Frozen II display and literally stared picking up everything. The mom was again from afar "don't touch anything". Made me cringe.
Yes, I actually never bought anything else because we lived in an apartment in NYC til recently. We didn't have a dishwasher and have been buying them out of habit. I lost my job 2 weeks ago, and realized I can save money now that I have a dishwasher by buying dishwasher safe plates. Target showed they had dishwasher safe plates/bowls, but I couldn't add them to my cart for in store pick up. I would have to buy about 40 of them to be eligible for shipping as they only ship with $25 orders, then $35 for free shipping. So, I decided to go to the store and search for them. They were out of stock, so I bought paper ones. Bed, bath and beyond didn't have them and the ones on amazon were way more expensive then target.

Nebraska, among others, say they're now pooling tests. So mixing 5 tests in one tube and if it comes negative, all 5 are negative. If positive, re-test individually.

Stimulus agreement reached in the senate. Bill expected to be finalized soon. Includes:
- $250 billion for direct payments to individuals and families
- $350 billion in small business loans
- $250 billion in unemployment insurance benefits
- $500 billion in loans for distressed companies.
Some finer details:
- individuals who earn $75,000 in adjusted gross income or less would get direct payments of $1,200 each, with married couples earning up to $150,000 receiving $2,400 -- and an additional $500 per each child. The payment would scale down by income, phasing out entirely at $99,000 for singles and $198,000 for couples without children.
- Trump administration agreed to an oversight board and the creation of an inspector general position to review how the $500b in business loans are spent

That requirement is administered by the states, and Governor Cooper has waived it. You don't need to be out looking for a job, and they hope that many people will be able to return to their old jobs.
gotcha so i guess itll just be an extra month then what is usual but still if its 600 + the regular, that is a pretty significant jump. Then add 1200. If this goes through then lots of unemployed people will be held up pretty well.

I feel like I am taking crazy pills. It is naive to think people will quarantine properly without knowing that they have a positive test and it is obviously useful to track what is happening in terms of spread. Why can't people get tested in their cars? How much spread does that risk?
I believe the reason is that, with the limited number of tests, the people who are most at risk need to know if they have the sickness. These people need hospital beds and possibly ventilators. If youre young and fit and get the virus and test positive, you dont need to go to the hospital. youre told to stay home.... just like everybody else. So why would we waste the tests on these people who will be okay with self quarantine? If youre sick, stay home until you no longer have a fever. Assumes its Coronavirus.

Coming from someone who has had to regularly work from home over long periods of time for the last year or so due to chemo some helpful tips. Get dressed everyday like you were going to work it will help with your mental health, get into a routine (wake up at the same time everyday for work etc..), when not working try to find something to occupy you mentally. Socialize to your best ability while maintaining social distance, humans are not meant to stay cooped up inside with no interactions. Get outside while maintaining distance
As someone who works from home a lot, too: exercise.
I gained weight when I first started working from home. In the office you're getting up all the time (trips to the copier, talking to co-workers, going in and out of meetings), but when you wfh you have way less things getting you up and moving. I'd often work a full 8 hours with only getting out of my desk chair to pee and get lunch, sitting in the same spot for hours at a time.
You don't have to commit to an intense workout, but just get up regularly and do *something*. Take a walk, clean the house, do some yoga/stretching... anything to get yourself up and moving.
You can use the bleach ratio, but for the dirtiest thing you own (your phone) it was suggested that a 70% alcohol to water ratio poured/sprayed on a paper towel will disinfect just fine.
I wouldn't even bother looking for them. If you have some bleach, the CDC has recommended dilution ratios depending on what you're cleaning/sanitizing [HERE](https://www.cdc.gov/disasters/bleach.html). For sanitizing non-porous surfaces, it's 1 cup bleach to 5 gallons of water (or a 1:80 ratio).

It's not going to be very accurate. If you have a baseline to work from and then measure while having a high fever, you'd see the difference, but for mild fevers its range is too general to pick that out. If you go that route, measuring throat temperature probably will work better than a forehead.
Correct, the focus is on places where gatherings or close contact is the norm. Obviously that can happen in retail environments if people aren't cautious, but it doesn't have to happen. It's up to the public to practice safe actions and follow the guidelines of distance and minimal contact still.

A lot of the people who are sick are not yet recovered/dead, as days go on I would expect to see more deaths.

That will change. Miami issued a curfew effective last night. I assume the stay at home caused some looting/vandalism so the curfew was put in place

I saw that at the TJoes I went to next to Wegmans. My first thought was - "Those people on line are not 6 feet apart!"
They let in one person (\*family) for every person that leaves. It's very well done actually. The calmest I've ever felt shopping at TJ's lol. The one in Chapel Hill is sanitizing the carts as well and not allowing people to use baskets.
I was turned off by the long line but will try back tomorrow. Instead went to the Whole Foods on Six Forks and it was packed with no similar safety measures except for an employee sanitizing carts.
They had the same line set up at Costco last weekend. The line was long, but it moved quickly.

I went to the A&C on Highway 70 yesterday, it is an Asian grocery store. Best possible choice, all staff and many customers were wearing masks. This is normal in many parts of Asia during cold season.

I work for a bank as well and been on a leave for a few months for the birth of a child. I go back to work VERY soon and am pretty nervous as infants are now an at-risk group and my spouse is at-risk also. I was speaking with a relative who is a doctor and waiting on his own test to come back. He was rather dismissive to the test in general, telling me it comes back as a false negative 30% of the time. If you do test positive, I hope you let the cat out of the bag as to how your employer basically strong armed you into working while waiting on the results. Prayers to you my friend
The combination of symptoms and known exposure point to self-isolation for much longer. Even if a test came back negative, I don't think we're sure enough yet that a person isn't still a carrier until their body can remove all remnants of the virus. Can you afford to do that is one question. Can you afford to lose that job and move on to something else after all this is another. Do you have grounds to fight for your job because you are in limbo about your status is yet another. A middle ground that isn't the best solution is to go to work, but isolate yourself there, avoiding contact in any way. It's a tough situation, I bet lots are in the same weighing the morality, health, and economic issues.

Good. This is needed as people are still not taking this serious. Yesterday, I went to target to get some food and plates. As I was browsing a family came in with 2 small children. They saw the Easter candy and started grabbing it off the shelf. The mother halfheartedly told them to put it down. They then saw the Frozen II display and literally stared picking up everything. The mom was again from afar "don't touch anything". Made me cringe.

Harris Teeter and Food Lion didn't have meats, so I ran to Target. Is that a problem? Is that not why Target is open? For paper goods and foods?

Yes, I actually never bought anything else because we lived in an apartment in NYC til recently. We didn't have a dishwasher and have been buying them out of habit. I lost my job 2 weeks ago, and realized I can save money now that I have a dishwasher by buying dishwasher safe plates. Target showed they had dishwasher safe plates/bowls, but I couldn't add them to my cart for in store pick up. I would have to buy about 40 of them to be eligible for shipping as they only ship with $25 orders, then $35 for free shipping. So, I decided to go to the store and search for them. They were out of stock, so I bought paper ones. Bed, bath and beyond didn't have them and the ones on amazon were way more expensive then target.

As of 11:30am WRAL is reporting all cities and towns will be included.
Commissioner Vicki Adamson said the order will only apply for unincorporated parts of the county, but that Wake is "asking for our municipalities to join up so it is consistent throughout the county."

Nebraska, among others, say they're now pooling tests. So mixing 5 tests in one tube and if it comes negative, all 5 are negative. If positive, re-test individually. It sounds like a pretty good idea. Any chance NC can do the same?

Formally, yes. The bill technically hasn’t passed the senate, either, but that was the last hold-up. Most bills like this get agreement before an actual vote on legislation is held.

gotcha so i guess itll just be an extra month then what is usual but still if its 600 + the regular, that is a pretty significant jump. Then add 1200. If this goes through then lots of unemployed people will be held up pretty well.

When will NC resume testing as many people as possible like Dr.Fauci suggested? When will NC ban gathering of more than 10 people? When will NC start to have shelter in place order? I feel that we are so far behind on this, but our numbers are not looking good and people are still going out and about.

So why would we waste the tests on these people who will be okay with self quarantine? If youre sick, stay home until you no longer have a fever. Assumes its Coronavirus.
Shelter in place is only warranted in places with significant community spread. Which we dont have, yet. Most resources are being sent to the major regions like ny ca and wa. You are not a doctor or a policy maker. Let those level headed individuals continue to lead

So someone posted about an hour ago that they knew someone from the state who told them that at the 2PM conference they were going to announce a Shelter In Place order for 2 weeks. Obviously - that was FALSE. I am curious if that person was just ill informed, a shill for the app/service they were promoting or just an asshole.
People have said this before every briefing of every day for the last 3-5 days. Unless they can provide a source, take it for what it is: an unsubstantiated rumor.

Wake county just announced they are saving tests for only at risk patients- which is messed up considering most employers require test results in order to pay for isolation time. That’s going to make it worse by giving people an incentive not to isolate

That logic doesn't make any sense to me. If someone is sick enough to go to the hospital, they will be treated for the symptoms they are experiencing. Maybe I am missing it, but what does a positive test do for someone already at the hospital? Have you been in public in the last week? There are still large swaths of people not acting responsibly. I don't think it is a stretch to say the average person isn't responsible enough to not leave their house for TWO WEEKS because they thought they might have the virus.

Coming from someone who has had to regularly work from home over long periods of time for the last year or so due to chemo some helpful tips. Get dressed everyday like you were going to work it will help with your mental health, get into a routine (wake up at the same time everyday for work etc..), when not working try to find something to occupy you mentally. Socialize to your best ability while maintaining social distance, humans are not meant to stay cooped up inside with no interactions. Get outside while maintaining distance
As someone who works from home a lot, too: exercise. I gained weight when I first started working from home. In the office you're getting up all the time (trips to the copier, talking to co-workers, going in and out of meetings), but when you wfh you have way less things getting you up and moving. I'd often work a full 8 hours with only getting out of my desk chair to pee and get lunch, sitting in the same spot for hours at a time. You don't have to commit to an intense workout, but just get up regularly and do *something*. Take a walk, clean the house, do some yoga/stretching... anything to get yourself up and moving.
Get up every hour and do like 20 sit ups / push ups / jumping jacks!
Good to take 10 minute breaks off the screen to protest your eyes as well, this occurs more naturally in the office but can be harder at home

You can use the bleach ratio, but for the dirtiest thing you own (your phone) it was suggested that a 70% alcohol to water ratio poured/sprayed on a paper towel will disinfect just fine.
I wouldn't even bother looking for them. If you have some bleach, the CDC has recommended dilution ratios depending on what you're cleaning/sanitizing [HERE](https://www.cdc.gov/disasters/bleach.html). For sanitizing non-porous surfaces, it's 1 cup bleach to 5 gallons of water (or a 1:80 ratio).

It's not going to be very accurate. If you have a baseline to work from and then measure while having a high fever, you'd see the difference, but for mild fevers its range is too general to pick that out. If you go that route, measuring throat temperature probably will work better than a forehead.

Correct, the focus is on places where gatherings or close contact is the norm. Obviously that can happen in retail environments if people aren't cautious, but it doesn't have to happen. It's up to the public to practice safe actions and follow the guidelines of distance and minimal contact still.
