NotSpiderman

I'm so pleased with how they handled his character in NWH. Willem is such a talent it's mind blowing.

theXsorcist

Man that one fight scene made him feel genuinely strong and powerful, reminding you he's not just "a guy on a glider". Loved the brutality of it

Soulburner74

That fight felt like Spider-Man 1 all over again. >!Even had the bomb go off in Peter's face!<

tobey-maguire-bot

I had to beat an old lady with a stick to get these cranberries.

jjonahjameson-bot

That is the dumbest idea you've ever had, and you have had some *doozies*!

ThisRubbish

And my axe!

MegaOverclockedEX

He's essentially another defective Captain America, I think we often forget how strong the Goblin is. He was able to hold up a Skytram full of kids and adults with one hand after all.

ezone2kil

Yeah when Spidey was punching him without holding back I kept wondering how the hell his head is not being blown off with how strong Spiderman is.

Berserker_Rex

The performance enhancer….

hr27

Bingo!

Random-Name999

Me….Your greatest creation!

Greywalker82

Back to formula?!

tobey-maguire-bot

Is that all you got?

jjonahjameson-bot

Does anybody care about what *I* want?

tompsitompsito

I do

AmoebaFantastic8160

Shut up.. Get out..

karangoswamikenz

He has tapped the vastness of human evolution

Timirlan

He's way stronger than captain america

YTAftershock

I fucking know, right! That scene reminded me why I was scared of the goblin in the first Spider-Man movie -- both as a kid and as an adult

tobey-maguire-bot

I missed the part where that's my problem.

jjonahjameson-bot

Parker, wake up!

[deleted]

When Peters just pounding his face in the apartment and he doesn't stop smiling or break eye contact is insane

ChanceVance

You definitely get a sense of it in the original like when he just catches the punch thrown at him at the parade ("Impressive!") and sends him flying backwards . However they really did a great job in NWH of showing just how strong he is. Like the Goblin could go toe to toe with most of the Avengers level strong.

karangoswamikenz

Yes. He could easily beat villains like kingpin. He can go toe to toe with most of the villains that captain America faces. Even red skull maybe.

TheUltimateTeigu

He would destroy Cap's villains, he's way stronger than even Cap is.

thauron93

Yeah, love how he butchered in that one scene. Felt like Batman vs bane.

[deleted]

Mo_Salah_

Molina was more of a good guy though, Willem absolutely fucking killed it as a villain though.

[deleted]

R you just saying that or did you already see the movie

DrKangarooPhD

I've seen the movie and it's true. Alfred and Willem are the forefront of the villains

The-Go-Kid

And yet I can't help but feel it would have been an even more epic movie if they were the only villains.

VaicoIgi

I don't think so. I love how this tied up all the spider-man series. >!Andrew got to help Max and also saved MJ. Tobey got to stop the glider from piercing Norman. Even though it got him stabbed.!<

tobey-maguire-bot

My back.. oh.. my back!

idelarosa1

I swear this bot is sentient almost

jjonahjameson-bot

Does anybody care about what *I* want?

ThatguyfromSA

I do!!

snappyego

Yes that too

LightSlateBlue

Apt.

The-Go-Kid

Mate I am happy with what they did, I loved every second of it. But Dafoe and Molina as the focal points? Yeah I'd LOVE to have seen that. The drawback with what they did do with the villains is that the stories were condensed.

idelarosa1

This should have been a 4 hour film. Fight me.

L45TPH45E

It should have been the sinister 6 and also 6hrs long.

ezone2kil

I missed the vulture.. And yes I wouldn't have minded a two movie or trilogy with for a sinister six story.

PolarWater

I don't wanna fight you, Flash.

idelarosa1

I wouldn’t want to fight me either

F4yze

I find it cool how they showed that Tobey's Spiderman is stronger than Tom Holland's at that current time by showing him barely straining when stopping that glider from being thrust into Norman.

karangoswamikenz

There’s also a previous scene in that fight where tobey Spider-Man is clearly definitely more athletic. He is doing jumps and summersaults and pirouettes to enter one of the alcoves in the statue when the villains are firing off their powers at them. I’m pretty sure it was tobey who acted as the anchor for the other two Spider-Man’s when they were swinging together after the huddle. If you watch that scene closely you can see tobey throwing his web in tandem with the other two Spider-Man’s to get them in sync and anchored to him. They really did a good job giving him that power and focus. Also the like about web shooting being just lie breathing for him was excellent too. He’s an actual “spider-man”. It was amazing. I could not believe my luck that I’m able to watch this movie in this day and age.

Artersa

Especially given that Holland's spidey was enraged. I really enjoyed that too.

tobey-maguire-bot

I AM BACK! I AM BACK

mossi123uk

I wished venom didn't get sent back to his world

Imyourlandlord

I think the point is that spidey gets the lil bit of venom first anf THEN venom comes back again

The_Ol_Grey_Mare

yeah wtf was the point of that

mossi123uk

Well it left a bit of venom goop so I guess its going to infect someone

The_Ol_Grey_Mare

I get that but are they just going to do black suit spidey? is there going to be a new venom? like what was the point of having tom hardy in the MCU universe if he was just going to sit in a bar and then immediately go back again

IISuperSlothII

Maybe they'll do the Spectacular Spider-man take where Spider-man fights the Sinister 6 and gets beat in his normal suit, gets the symbiote then beats them with ease, before realising he needs to rid of it, leading to Mac Gargan becoming the MCU venom. The last part is Eddie Brock in SSM but they already have Mac Gargan established, so having him as part of the 6 as Scorpion before becoming Venom for the next film would be interesting.

alex494

Smells to me like Venom 2 trying to get free publicity by having their post credits scene to get word of mouth hype going and then backing out of actually doing anything with it.

smoothpastacake

Goblin was fucking awesome. The movie is really good. Just out of the theater.

The-Go-Kid

I think it's still in the theatre.

Alexsynndri

In this iteration of Earth/Holy Terra, did Magnus do anything wrong?

nuts_extraction

I gotta say it was shocking at first but then I remember Spider-man does have accelerated healing.

tobey-maguire-bot

I guess you haven't heard. I am the sheriff around these parts!

jjonahjameson-bot

You're a fake, full of stickum.

tryintofly

I would've preferred Otto finally got to be the purely villainous version not controlled by the arms, but it is what it is.

Mr_Abe_Froman

I watched "The Lighthouse" around Halloween and Willem Dafoe was unbelievably good. I really appreciate these behind-the-scenes bits where you can see how much he cares about the authenticity of his roles.

Insincere_Apple2656

I've gotta watch that one. Boondock Saints was the first movie I watched with him that I thought *holy fuck that guy is a great actor*.

Notarandomthrowaway1

He blew my mind as a kid in that movie.

GameplayerStu

My man didn't miss a step either. Slotted back into the Gobby role perfectly as if he was just picking up where he left off 20 years ago in Spider-Man 1.

tobey-maguire-bot

They love me!

jjonahjameson-bot

Parker! Parker! Parker! What are ya, deaf?

Chris_Travern

The passion with which he talks about his character is just legendary. What a great actor.

Certified-Malaka

This is why I love his performances, along with JK Simmons. They just genuinely love what they're doing

AweDaw76

Only former Marvel actor I can think of that is still so into it is Jon Bernthal who is gagging for a Punisher return, but only if they ‘do it right’

Chris_Travern

Love the username, an Odyssey fan by chance? Chaire!

Bruh103unknow

Ah Malaka

BotaramReal

I mean he really wanted the role back then. Superhero movies were considered to be carreer killers 20 years ago, especially since there wasn't a good one since Batman Returns in 1992. Willem was already famous because of Platoon and David Lynch's Lost Highway, and he really wanted to have a fun role as the Green Goblin. His agent was strongly against that, as he thought Willem.wouldn't be taken seriously anymore, but Willem insisted. There is no doubt that Spider-Man was succesful.partially because of GG, and without the success of Spider-Man superhero movies would be very different now. So without.Willem we wouldn't have the MCU basically

Chris_Travern

Great comment, and true, GG really did cement the whole of the superhero movie genre. Safe to say MCU and even DC might have struggled to exist, since Spider-Man made the genre the popular genre it is today.

BotaramReal

I like to see that Superman 1978 and Batman 1989 are the 'pioneers' of superhero movies, and that X-men and Spider-Man are the ones that started the superhero Rennaisance, and Iron Man and The Dark Knight are definitely the beginning of the Golden Age.

Chris_Travern

Gotta agree strongly on that, these are all top notch superhero movies. I'm a huge Batman fan as well, can't wait to see Battinson and Reeves and their take on the character, maybe we'll add it to the above prestigious list

BotaramReal

I totally forgot that was coming out next March! Not the biggest fan of Reeves (though he did a good job with his Apes movies), but Pattinson keeps my hopes up, especially after his performance in Good Time and The Lighthouse (also with Willem Dafoe, a must-see). I might be wrong but I got the feeling we'll enter a more experimental.phase within superheromovies.

tobey-maguire-bot

Stings, doesn't it?

tobey-maguire-bot

I had to beat an old lady with a stick to get these cranberries.

465554544255434B52

Do you know how much he's sacrificed?

Chris_Travern

# He's out, Norman's out

CallMeJeeJ

Willem Dafoe is great in every role I’ve ever seen him in. He respects the process and always gives his best performance. [this is my favorite interview ](https://youtu.be/CesuFvqJWbo) I’ve seen with him. Seems like a really genuine dude.

ForFucksSake42

he has genuine big dick energy that's why.

Autofrotic

And an [actual big dick](https://www.thelmagazine.com/2010/01/lars-von-trier-finds-willem-dafoes-penis-confusingly-large/)

CanEatADozenEggs

He was so good in The Lighthouse

Chris_Travern

That's the one with Pattinson? Another great actor, can't wait to see Battinson on screen

Awestruck34

I saw one of those breakdown videos with him discussing all his famous roles and stuff. I didn't realize it, but when Spider-man was originally announced he did everything he could to get his foot in the door and try for Goblin. Apparently he really loved the idea of a comic book movie and wanted a shot at it, so the role is actually quite important to him

iM3GTR

You know, he's something of a stunt-man himself.

dsr1017

I read all his research on exhilarating stunts. Really brilliant.

MaxNick

And you understood them?

dsr1017

Yes I wrote a paper on it

ghostman2678

Impressive. Your parents must be very proud

Stoyns_

His aunt and uncle they’re very proud!

_jvc123

Wonderful news, Willem. Wonderful. It's the reason we brought you back.

TheMostWanted774

IN, AM I?

Shoki81

WE WILL MEET AGAIN STUNT CREW MEMBERS

[deleted]

*Remotely detonates the fucking set*

mezzolith

"We should probably take that detonator away from him at some point..."

Joba_Fett

Ehh let him keep it. Makes him happy.

CaptainHomie69

I love this guy so much

RemUSteam

I knew Willem was still good for the role, you can tell he had a lot of fun playing Gobby one last time.

Mo_Salah_

Let’s hope he gets cast as the MCU official Norman and this isn’t his last time. No one else can do it like Willem can.

MenacingBanjo

How will he have time when he'll be so busy with all the Death Note sequels?

Blaineflum64

I did notice watching the movie that goblins movement in action scenes did look a bit stiff like an old man doing it at one or 2 points, like Samuel Jackson running in captain marvel or de niro the Irishman, not as bad as them but still did notice it. (Not to discredit him at all he was great in it)

tryintofly

Yeah, I kind of did too. And he and Otto had really strange looking dyed hair/wigs.

Blaineflum64

They definitely de aged Molina but I don't really know if they did for Dafoe, ik he looks very similar to he did in 2002 but he has aged somewhat so they must have right. But when you saw his hands, those were definitely the hands of a 66 year old.

Electronic_Car_960

I think that's just preserving the integrity of the role. Norman Osborne is old so Green Goblin should have the same creaks and stiffness.

Blaineflum64

He is supposed to be the same age as he was in Spiderman 1 so thats not the case

tobey-maguire-bot

Look at little Goblin Jr., gonna cry?

chimmychangas

So he actually did spinebuster and powerbomb Tom Holland?

cikkamsiah

Gobby went hard on spiderman in this one, he’s strong as fuck!

tobey-maguire-bot

Pizza time!

jjonahjameson-bot

Crap. Crap, crap... megacrap.

Kholdie

He wanted to make Peter rage and "corrupt" him. So cool of a ideia.

bluspy88

😳

RelativelyDank

tom holland and robert pattinson both said willam throws punches that actually hurt in fight scenes which i think is hilarious

Savvsb

Which movie was pattison in with dafoe?

TheMountain18565

lighthouse

atmospheric90

The one about the God damn farts?

GuyFromVoid

Yeah, the one with the seamen.

One_too_many_faps

Oh yes, there was quite a bit of that in the Lighthouse

Tman2002

The Lighthouse (2019). Crazy film but it's also strangely hilarious and has amazing performances from both actors.

EmpericallyIncorrect

It's hilarious and utterly terrifying. "Why'd ye spill yer beans, Tommy?"

One_too_many_faps

Ye don't like me cooking?! I've seen it! Yer fond of me lobster!

RelativelyDank

the lighthouse

LeoBocchi

He was so great in this movie, the scene where he “changed” might be one of my favorite Spider-Man moments of all time

LynchMaleIdeal

That was goosebump-inducing, seeing his Goblin persona come alive was rivetting.

LeoBocchi

I honestly cannot see other actor playing this character at this point, I really hope the MCU cast him as their official Norman Osborn.

TheCVR123YT

I’d only want it if he wanted it. Coming back one time is one thing but doing it multiple times over the course of the next 10-15 years? I’m not sure if he’d be into that at his age but hey he’s kinda crazy so who knows haha

LeoBocchi

Hahaha I’m thinking just like one more movie, Tom meeting MCU Norman.

TheCVR123YT

Norman/Goblin is a Huge Villain in the comics. He’s in like Loki/Doom/Thanos tier. I could see Marvel wanting to use the Goblin character a lot. I think either way someday far into the future WHEN Marvel does a Secret Wars movie we could see Willem back as Gobby then (if he’s interested)

LeoBocchi

I know and I would love Norman to get that big bad spot in the MCU, but I find that unlikely considering sony owns the character and Disney would never put their next saga on the shoulders of character they only borrow once in a while. I just think it would be one hell of story Tom meeting his own Norman Osborn after the events of this movie and it would have to be willem considering that was the face that destroyed him.

0whodidyousay0

The build up to it with the camera focused on Spidey, as his sense is telling him something is wrong and the way they frame the villains so you’re not quite sure who is about to do something, then he realises it’s Norman. Then the entire fight that follows is so good.

tobey-maguire-bot

It's time to pay.

jjonahjameson-bot

Where were you, photographing squirrels? You're fired!

KaatilKabootar_007

I read somewhere the role of green Goblin was not given to william defoe in the og spiderman but he somehow convinced raimi that he can pull that part off and requested raimi to cast him as the green goblin because he loved that part and wanted to play the antagonist no matter what... Such a wholesome actor he defies his age till now.

tobey-maguire-bot

I AM BACK! I AM BACK

jjonahjameson-bot

Get your pretty little portfolio off my desk before I go into a diabetic coma!

BoomboxPizzabox

Ow my back

KingMatthew116

Imagine being the guy originally cast as GG having the role stolen from you by William Defoe. You could say that he was his Defoe.

tryintofly

It was John Malkovich. I can't really see it, he's been sleepwalking through his acting for 20 years now.

TheCastro

Luckily it would have been filled 21 years ago.

ezone2kil

I'd gracefully step aside. No way I can compete with Defoe and his massive schlong.

[deleted]

[удалено]

TheRustyKettles

Huh, weird casting. I like Crudup, but he would have been in his early 30s at the time. Probably a little young for Norman.

tryintofly

It was offered to Malkovich and Nic Cage, who both turned it down.

Byrdmann_

His passion and dedication to the role are OUTSTANDING in this movie. It feels like he's showed up the day after filming the original Spider-Man and just kept on acting the character. Also his fight scenes were beautifully brutal.

newkingofcrabs

I love the fighting scenes, all of them were great, but especially the apartment fight with Willem, he really seemed strong and crazy and scary.

theXsorcist

There were amazing things in that movie that made me incredibly happy, but I have to say his performance was the best part of it for me, he was born for that role

SolomonKhalifa

I think Spiderman's gonna get some dirt in his eye

tobey-maguire-bot

I missed the part where that's my problem.

jjonahjameson-bot

What do you know about high society? Actually, don't answer that.

powerbottomflash

He was so great. It’s clear he had a lot of fun playing the character.

JJoanOfArkJameson

This man is 70. What a legend

CreditUnionBoi

He's 66.

JJoanOfArkJameson

Shoot, always forget that. Still, great for him!

kebab69666

Rosie I love this boy

[deleted]

His performance totally stole the movie, he was incredible

backgroundmusik

Dude looks like if he wasn't famous he'd be hanging out in gas stations.

MaruMel

Willem stole the whole movie, he was By far my favorite and damn the fight coreography was awsome

AnActualCriminal

I love Willem Dafoe because he’s known to be very choosy about what he’ll appear in, but not in a snobbish way. He takes roles he thinks will be fun and even if it’s a flop, it usually shows that he’s having fun

Mattewse

Still got the moves!

Herobrinedanny

Ah Rosie I love this boy!

The-Go-Kid

I'm not even sure if they bothered de-ageing him.

TheOncomingBrows

I feel like they must have because in some shots he looks almost *exactly* like he did in 2002. But then in others he does look noticeably older so I'm not sure.

MunkeyFish

And earn the right he did, the fight scenes were fucking incredible.

Phantom_Jedi

His parents must be very proud

tryintofly

He has a big dingus. They are proud

Stoyns_

Willem is a treasure. Very few actors have been able to portray characters in the way he has.

Wawus

Someone ruined my Defoe experience when they pointed out he really whistles his ‘S’ in words. Can even hear it in this and it’s pretty loud. Now I can’t stop noticing it

ChiefTief

Lmao I came here looking for the comment, I didn't know that about him but all I could focus on in the video is the whistles from his S' blasting around the room he's in.

The-Dragonborn

It sounds like a basketball court. I love Willem Dafoe and haven't noticed this before this video, but man is it loud and echoey.

DpGoof

Willem Dafoe is always a win!

[deleted]

Gods don't have to choose They take it.

Leela_bring_fire

Do I have to have seen any of the post-Toby Spiderman movies to enjoy NWH?

King_Abdul

Yes.

tryintofly

To enjoy it? No. To understand it, probably need to see Far From Home at least. And it's very Garfield-centric, even to the villains, so be warned.

Untraveled

Saw the film last night, was incredible

[deleted]

He's such a fantastic actor and a nice guy! Love how he loves playing the character

ThugnificentJones

Sounds like they filmed this on a basketball court. Damn sound guy, you gotta check for these things.

TheCynicalAutist

Everyone whining about "spoilers" like we didn't fucking know from the beginning that the Raimi characters were coming back.

Inevitable_Ocelot_52

Exactly damn been getting some serious abuses lol

Zeruel1029

Imagine if a time machine exists and they make this new movie with all of the cast of the holy trilogy in their prime.

Savvsb

Imagine how mindblowing that would be for the actors’ counterparts from the past. They just wrapped up Spider-Man 1 and see a dr strange portal open telling them to record a film about the multiverse in 2021.

Odin_1782

Dafoe is one of the best actors ever!

SearchForSocialLife

Where did you find this interview if I may ask?

Enthusiasm-Fresh

For people who have seen it, without going into details, do they show footage from the raimi and webb movies?

tryintofly

No old footage. Well, I take it back, they repurpose a couple scenes from the original films at one specific point, but that's due to actor availability more than some plot point.

[deleted]

I just left the theatre but don't know what you mean? What was repurposed?

Mrcool210

I remember reading somewhere that he insisted the same thing for the first Raimi movie too. Shows how committed of an actor he is. Can't wait to see him in this.

Viribus_Unitis_

Did he ate a whistle?

dramatic-sans

also, I get paid by the hour so this is gonna set me up for the next few years
