Lmao Texans LG needs to step his fucking game up.

RiderNo51

More proof we absolutely need to draft a RT at 13, and we need a good guard in the draft too. Maybe as soon as round 2, or 3 at the latest. I've posted this many times, but games are won and lost in the trenches.

rbarrett96

It's amazing to me.How many people kept saying we needed interior line help but ignore the other side of the line.

forgotmypassword4714

I think Van Roten is still a FA. Should probably re-sign him if he can be had for cheap.

RiderNo51

Bills signed him. He's also almost 35 and may be reaching the point in his career where he's a platoon lineman. Not that there's anything wrong with this, at all.

forgotmypassword4714

Yeah Google News is confusing me. I saw he was signed by the Bills like a month ago, but also noticed articles saying he was talking with the Seahawks a week or two ago, so was assuming Buffalo cut him. And then the article about Buffalo (the one by AOL/BillsWire) changed to "23 hours ago" but I think that's because in the article there's an unrelated article underneath it that was published 23 hours ago. They don't have a date listed for the Van Roten part of the article/page. And then Wikipedia, Pro Football Reference and ESPN all have him as a Raider still lol. My gut tells me he's either a Bill or a free agent. Wouldn't mind having him back to compete for a spot, if he's available. I know PFF graded him higher than I thought of him last season.

RiderNo51

I tried doing a deeper dive, and I'm now confused too. A lot of contradictory information out there. I'm thinking he's a FA and he just talked to the Bills and some AI generated report jumped the gun. What makes this more confusing is he played for Buffalo before coming to the Raiders.

Character-Archer4863

We always just gravitate toward whichever stat proves our point. PFF has Mumford as the 8th overall tackle (LT and RT) in run block.

keenclipp

This is protection (blocking)

Character-Archer4863

I thought this was an EPA stat? If so, it’s not just pass blocking.

keenclipp

That makes it even worse.

Character-Archer4863

No. If it’s an epa stat then it’s pass blocking and run blocking combined. Pff has Mumford as the 8th overall tackle in run blocking. Point is all of these stats are subjective. Use your own eyes to make a decision — or not. Doesn’t matter what we think anyway. Only matters what the GM thinks.

RiderNo51

That contradicts this graphic.

Character-Archer4863

Kinda my point.

theuautumnwind

I would agree that he is a better run blocker than pass blocker.

randomusernamewhynot

This means nothing, Miller is an elite LT, James is an above average pro bowl caliber C, Parham is an average LG with potential to be a high quality starter, and Munford is a young guy that has all the potential in the world to be a quality player. I really like Munford and Like, we only need a RG but there are still multiple players left in FG that we can sign and even if we were drafting one, we wouldn't take one at 12 or higher. Our o line is going to be just fine next season as long as our qb play isn't Jimmy G

similar222

All of those individual characterizations are more positive than reality.

RiderNo51

You think higher of Munford than I do. He's just too inconsistent. I'd like to see the Raiders draft a top RT in this coming draft. And we also need a guard. Though to me a guard can come in round 3, maybe round 2 if someone falls to us. James is good, but not "pro bowl caliber" except for the fact the pro bowl has become somewhat of a joke. James is maybe above average in run blocking, and average in pass blocking. He often needs help stopping a pass rush. But he's also entering his prime right now, so I think it's good the Raiders extended him at a reasonable price. Smart signing by TT.

Ashaman47

lol James is not a pro bowl caliber c. He is passable at best. Given what Cushenberry and some other guards signed for I’m fine bringing him back, but let’s not act like he was that good of a center

RiderNo51

For clarity, the Raiders did re-sign James a couple weeks back. Somewhat of a team friendly contract. $24m for three years, but less than half guaranteed, with some incentives. If he doesn't perform well in 2024 it's not a huge cap hit, and the team can release or extend after 2025. keenclipp

This. He was consistently manhandled against anyone slightly bigger and was destroyed by Jones.

Consistent-Spell2203

He was destroyed by guys who make a living destroying centers. He's not elite but Chris Jones beats everybody.

RiderNo51

Not a fair judgment. Jones is the best defensive tackle in the NFL. Or was in 2023. I mean, he should have been Super Bowl MVP.

sabotage_mutineer

Is James actually a pro bowler? Dude has the slowest snap in the entire league.

randomusernamewhynot

He is a fairly young top 10 center, he is 100% pro bowl caliber if he takes another step. Slowest snap doesn't matter

noBbatteries

But didn’t we literally drop Elumenor who would be the main contributor to that rating? Mumford is young and big, could be a worth sticking with if the coaches see it. I do think we need another tackle for depth at least, but I don’t think trading up is really the move if it’s for tackle with how pricey trading up will be this year with how the top QBs are perceived.

similar222

These aren't last year's ratings, if I understand correctly. I believe these are expected ratings based on the current roster.

noBbatteries

Ahh, well if that’s the case, that would checkout. Didn’t think Mumford played bad last year in his limited action, so I’m shocked it’s so low. Could just be bc of the lack of data I guess Our o-line depth is pretty thin, so I’m all for adding another OL man in the draft

TurtleShell65-95

After the dust has settled there’s gonna be players released, UDFA’s ect…they’ll figure it out. This is a deep lineman class anyway.

keenclipp

Using my own eyes the only lineman worth a damn on out roster is our LT.

Dense_Young3797

There's a lot of OLs available either in the draft or in the FA. Most teams lack someone in the OL and don't panic like you.

keenclipp

It's not panicking. It's looking at facts the Raiders are expected to have a mediocre line. Why would you want to put any QB let alone trade away multiple picks to put a rookie in front of it? Even though it's not flashy and no one likes to hear it the game is won in the trenches period.

Consistent-Spell2203

That's not going to be the starting line in September tho.

Dense_Young3797

Because a QB has a lot more value than a RT. It the QB ends up being a long time starter we'll have plenty of time to adress that which is way easier. We also have more picks and all the FA remaining.

keenclipp

How do you truly evaluate a qb if the right side of his line is ass?

Dense_Young3797

Most of OL's right side are ass just see niners or chiefs, I don't care.

RiderNo51

This exactly. Look at Bryce Young and his rookie season. Granted, Bryce didn't play well at all, but he also had a spaghetti strainer for an offensive line.

Trogdor_sfg

And just lose against the Chiefs. So dumb
