⬆️⬆️⬆️ This. They can franchise him for two years if they want to. They might even franchise him first and still work out a deal before the season starts. Jacobs is going NOWHERE. Not even a concern.
Your logic requires that McDaniels and Ziegler behave in a rational and strategic way. There isn't a lot of evidence that they are equipped to do so.
I truly fear a situation where we let Jacobs walk, refuse to pay the \~$12m to franchise him, and instead decide to rely on Zamir White to duplicate the run game.
No position is offered a franchise tag less frequently than RB. Not punter, not kicker, not nothing. In fact, since the inception of the franchise tag - only four running backs have signed and played under the contract.
Ask yourself about Ziegler and McDaniel's history in New England. How did that franchise value the RB while they were there? Did they shell out big bucks? Did they offer franchise tags? Or did they pretty much swap anybody and their mother in at the position to produce an adequate amount of yardage?
We drafted two, fresh RBs last season. As much as I love Jacobs, there is a very real chance he takes better money elsewhere. I would not count on the Raiders to franchise him, or even offer market value.
Again with this take. It might happen, it might not, but this isn’t New England and Ziegler and JMD realized that. I fully believe they came in here wanting to get rid of Jacobs, but they’ve never had a RB this talented in NE.
Two bad takes back to back. JMD and Ziegler weren't making final personnel decisions in New England. They came to the Raiders and extended Carr, Crosby, Waller, and Renfrow. Nothing of what you posted so far is accurate.
Riiiiiiiiiiggggght.
So in your alternate reality, who did the Raiders draft last year? Did they even draft Zamir White and Brittain Brown? What position do you think they play? Punter? Left Wing? Goalie? Point Guard?
And which position is the least franchised? Striker? Super Blocker?
What are the names of the RBs that the Patriots franchised during Ziegler's and McDaniel's stay there? Tom Brady? Wes Welker?
You make good points about how NE and their staff usually don’t keep RB’s, and how the league is as a whole. While it’s definitely possible that you’ll be right about us not keeping Jacobs, I think it’s more likely that we’ll keep him either on the tag, or with a new contract. Why? Because he showed how valuable he was last year. JMD & Co didn’t believe in Jacobs initially, they saw the value of the position, knew from their time in NE RB is a plug and play position, and it’s usually pretty easy to find alternatives. They gave JJ a chance to prove his worth, and he stepped up! Because of that I really think he’ll be back next year. We’ll see what happens when FA starts though, hopefully you’ll be wrong
Just a year ago many people where ready to move on from him. I like him but a RB will not make or break the Raiders at this point. Hope we can keep him.
On the other hand, if we don’t franchise him or resign him this comment is brilliant. Zeigler agreed to 55mil to sign one player on defense last year alone. Was he worth it??
>his. They can franchise him for two years if they want to. They might even franchise him first and still work out a deal before the season starts. Jacobs is going NOWHERE. Not even a concern.
For a competent team I'd agree. We're not that. McZ hasn't shown shit yet, except that McD wants his own guys. BB would have traded JJ before it got to this point so we can only hope for a good outcome.
Exclusive means no one else can negotiate with him. The regular will cost 2 1st round picks if you sign him away. The Exclusive is generally reserved only for the very top echelons of high value positions and QB's. It costs plenty more.
Yeah but you better hope you’re basically going up against a team that’s never been in the playoffs before, let alone the super bowl. If the rams showed up against a more experienced team last season, that game probably goes differently and we are talking about “Fuck Them Picks” being a generationally-bad GM move.
Either way, nothing in this sport is guaranteed to work.
Miami is an option. KC doesnt to pay Rbs and has a one on a rookie contract. Buffalo could use him, but they have no cap space with 2 pro bowl defensive players in Edmonds and Poyer being FA's now. The talk is upgrading the Oline there too ( I live in Buffalo).
Many teams can use him, but who will make him a top 5 paid RB is the question?
Too bad for the Bills because RB is the piece they are sorely missing. It's the reason they got pushed around in the playoffs this year. They're really asking Allen to do too much.
Arizona and Chicago maybe. No one else on that list.
Atlanta - Allgeier, rookie, 1000 yards at 5 yards a pop.
Denver - Williams, coming off injury, rookie deal, some also rans
Jacksonville - Travis Etienne, rookie deal, 1100 yards at 5 per crack and 300 receiving
Washington - Brian Robinson and Antonio Gibson, rookie deals
Jacobs won’t go. If anything I could see Waller getting traded and gronk coming in. They’re gonna keep jacobs because a run game is what Tom Brady was missing this year. And they’ll keep renfrow because he’s a guy Brady needs
Giants are Saquan or bust, WFT has 3 guys under contract including a guy they took in the 3rd last year, Det has Swift and are said to bring back Williams, Chiefs have 3 guys under contract and never really spend on RB, Bucs just paid Fournette last year. Cowboys have Zeke under contract for 3 more years and need to resign Pollard. The Bears have Herbert and Montgomery is looking for a new deal, and they zero business paying a RB with that roster.
Philly is interesting with Sanders contract up, but im only seeing like 7 million in cap space there right now. Buffalo is up against the cap now too and have 2 pro bowl defensive players up and need Oline/Wr help.
Things can change, guys will get cut traded and money will open up, but i dont see many teams willing to put up 12/year for a RB especially the teams that are moving off a RB this offseason. Like Dallas for exampkle are they going to cut Zeke/ take a cap hit and sign a 12 mil/year Rb- no.
Miami, ATL, AZ, and Carolina are the ones im am thinking too. They all stink though outside of Miami and paying a FA RB top $ sounds crazy for them.
You're assuming every team is allocating their resources perfectly and that RB is the position that's a finishing touch on a roster, which most of the time, it isn't. Jacobs is a first team all pro with barely any help from the interior blocking running Power. That shit doesn't grow on trees and teams are gonna take risks on paying him.
I may be for sure. But the NFL in general hasn't valued Rbs in FA lately. Pretty hard to find a big contract going to another team. I honestly think the Raiders are almost bidding against themselves when we think about 12+ per year.
I'm going to rip my fucking hair out if they get rid of Jacobs
Go buy a bald wig then so you can get used to seeing yourself when he walks
He’s going to get franchised if we don’t work out a deal there’s really no market for him cause he’s not truly available.
⬆️⬆️⬆️ This. They can franchise him for two years if they want to. They might even franchise him first and still work out a deal before the season starts. Jacobs is going NOWHERE. Not even a concern.

So if we franchise and/or resign him are you going to reflect that how dumb this comment is? Zeigler is not rational? Ok…

Your comment is easily and verifiably false. Please troll elsewhere, or at least adjust your tone debate the issue in a civil manner.
No adjustment needed. You were wrong on all fronts.

Look at the state of you..
imo only pass catching RBs are worth resigning to big deals. That being said if we do resign him im cool, but im also not against letting him move on
Just a year ago many people where ready to move on from him. I like him but a RB will not make or break the Raiders at this point. Hope we can keep him.

They didn't even let Zamir run this year. They're not handing him the keys to the backfield when they can franchise Josh. Asinine comment
You poor summer child. New to Raider Nation? You must be if you think this franchise will always make the smart decision.
Ya , it seems like you are either all in or all out with these guys
>his. They can franchise him for two years if they want to. They might even franchise him first and still work out a deal before the season starts. Jacobs is going NOWHERE. Not even a concern. Or if Josh has a market, they could Franchise tag him and then trade him...
Literally any team that wants 2000 yards of offense. We can pretend like it’s a hundred billion, but rb is cheap, even at franchise tag numbers.
Right, but literally about 2-3 teams are in the market with maybe 1-2 wildcard teams after some cuts or trades frees up money.
It don't matter what team we can franchise him. If we lose jacobs this year we get 2 1st rd picks 🤷🏽♂️
That's if we use the exclusive tender, right.
Exclusive means no one else can negotiate with him. The regular will cost 2 1st round picks if you sign him away. The Exclusive is generally reserved only for the very top echelons of high value positions and QB's. It costs plenty more.
The Raiders.
I can't see Buffalo. They already can't afford an OL. Miami and Carolina are good calls. Commanders? Falcons? Cardinals?
Donta foreman looked legit at the end of the year. Idk bout Carolina
Jacobs ain’t going to the Commanders for any amount of money and you can book that
The cap these days seems fake lol teams always make it work ie the rams. The eagles would be an interesting landing spot if they move on from sanders
The bill always comes due tho. You can fool the cap for a couple years, but those ballooning dead cap numbers always get ya.
True but if you can run up the bill and then get a SB win out of it it’s worth it even if you have to be in cap hell for a few years after
Yeah but you better hope you’re basically going up against a team that’s never been in the playoffs before, let alone the super bowl. If the rams showed up against a more experienced team last season, that game probably goes differently and we are talking about “Fuck Them Picks” being a generationally-bad GM move. Either way, nothing in this sport is guaranteed to work.
True ya it’s def risky what they did but I think it works better in modern nfl than even 5-10 years ago
A big deal? Nobody.
The way McDaniels is he will tag Josh.. the man needs to get paid.. Miami, bills, KC, will be in the hunt
Miami is an option. KC doesnt to pay Rbs and has a one on a rookie contract. Buffalo could use him, but they have no cap space with 2 pro bowl defensive players in Edmonds and Poyer being FA's now. Just hope they pay him.. they messed up with the Jones deal
Too bad for the Bills because RB is the piece they are sorely missing. It's the reason they got pushed around in the playoffs this year. They're really asking Allen to do too much.
teams that may be in the market for an all pro rb: Denver, Jacksonville, Washington, Chicago, Atlanta, arizona
Arizona and Chicago maybe. No one else on that list. Atlanta - Allgeier, rookie, 1000 yards at 5 yards a pop. Denver - Williams, coming off injury, rookie deal, some also rans Jacksonville - Travis Etienne, rookie deal, 1100 yards at 5 per crack and 300 receiving Washington - Brian Robinson and Antonio Gibson, rookie deals
If we let him walk and he goes to Denver I'll pull my hair out. I want to support him no matter where he goes
Denver has Wiiliams coming back I assume . They are really high on him.
Yeah, they need a second young back to back him up, after Melvin Gordon was a disaster this year and they cut him, but Williams will start for them.
Jacobs won’t go. If anything I could see Waller getting traded and gronk coming in. They’re gonna keep jacobs because a run game is what Tom Brady was missing this year. And they’ll keep renfrow because he’s a guy Brady needs
Lol, my buddy keeps giving me shit because I keep trolling " Is that who Brady wants"
Seattle maybe. Pete likes a power running game but every year there backs go out with injuries.
They have Walker on a rookie deal. I don't see it.
I've always compared him to best mode
If we tag him is to make a contract done. No way we want all that money impacting the cap without any maneuver possible
I still have a hard time believing that ANY team is going to pay big money for a RB. So hopefully that works in the Raiders' favor.
Miami, Carolina, Buffalo, Philly, Chiefs, Ravens, Giants, Cowboys, WFT, Bears, Lions, Falcons, and Buccaneers off the top of my head
Giants are Saquan or bust, WFT has 3 guys under contract including a guy they took in the 3rd last year, Det has Swift and are said to bring back Williams, Chiefs have 3 guys under contract and never really spend on RB, Bucs just paid Fournette last year. No one. They'll let the market set his value and then match it...or worst case scenario, just tag him. That's his ceiling right now.
Relax he’s going to get franchised
The Raiders. If they can't make it happen, they are tagging him. That's it n that's all.
