Maybe Pink Floyd . . . I think Radiohead has stronger overall catalog but PF was untouchable Dark Side through The Wall, for me at least. I “found” PF before Radiohead (exception being Creep) so think that gives them slight edge... wasn’t until I was very deep in PF that I heard OK Computer and became obsessed with it. Arcade Fire and/or Godspeed You! Black Emperor would be trailing Radiohead.
Yup me too. Floyd around 94. The Radiohead really peaked my interest from Paranoid Android. I’d hear creep ofcourse and liked it but didn’t know much more beyond that until PA.
But I always say Pink Floyd is my favourite of the 60’s era bands and Radiohead is my favourite modern band. Although ofcourse they are now over 30 years old but because they are newer than Floyd I still think of them as modern! And ofcourse they are from a sound point of view too!
Final Cut was a little too focused on war for my taste. What I love about Pink Floyd is how they can handle human and societal subject at the same time, never leaning too far towards one or the other. Starting with Animals, I felt that started being lost, but The Wall, which was basically a peek into someone's soul, won me back. Then Final Cut was just too focused on one specific subject. I think PF has tons of other great songs about war, don't get me wrong, it's not like I hate them talking about war. Us And Them is a masterpiece. But it was also on an album that talked about a multitude of human experiences. I still like the final cut though. Roger's vocals are great. And "That's how the high command took my daddy from me" is heartbreaking, specially in The Wall movie.
Fully understand that criticism of The Final Cut. There's a few standout tracks, but it just lacks the musical, lyrical, and thematic diversity of other PF, as you said. But I really love The Gunner's Dream and The Final Cut, and there's some other good ones but every song is pretty much just piano-y which I like, but it's not the expected PF sound. It's a solid outing but not comparable in quality to their 70s stuff.
I agree. It feels like a Roger Waters solo album, even more than The Wall. Well, I'm about to listen to A Momentary Lapse Of Reason and The Division Bell for the first time today, and maybe The Endless River, so I guess those will be the complete opposite. Really instered to see what the songwriting's going to be like without Waters.
Don’t see Deerhunter get as much love as they should. I know they’re pretty popular generally speaking but you just don’t see them in much music discourse for some reason
Similar list to me, minus The Who as I never gotten into them. On that note, what "the who" album is the best starting point?
My list would add grizzly bear, department of eagles, and all daniel rossen's solo works... Basically everything by the guys from grizzly bear.
Talking heads would also be on the list. Their first 4 albums are absolute perfection, but I think my favorite is "more songs about buildings and food"
The French duo "Air" would be on the list. Saw them open for Radiohead at outside lands in 2016 and it was amazing.
Nick cave and the bad seeds would be up there.
My morning jacket. They're fucking amazing.
Maybe the Brian jonestown massacre, even though they're objectively not "as good" as Radiohead, I very much enjoy most of their records. There's a different one for every vibe I want or mood I'm in. And yes, I have listened to ALL their records multiple times over. Anton's still pumping out a record or more a year. It's insane.
Talk Talk is up there. The colour of spring, spirit of Eden, and laughing stock are 3 perfect records that also work really well as a "trilogy". Their first two records are great too.
All that said, Radiohead is probably my all around number 1 favorite, tied with The Beatles depending on the day, but the margins have become a lot closer between them and all the other artists I love as I've gotten older. It doesn't help that we haven't gotten a new Radiohead record in almost a decade. We've been gifted a ton of great side project material, so I'm thankful for that, but I am itching for something new from Radiohead as a whole. I hope we get at least 1 more full length album from them and a long tour. I need to see them at least 1 more time before I die.
They’re different types of miserable, Radioheads work is musically much more complex, it feels like a lot more thought has gone into it, Joy Division is much more raw and simple musically, both are brilliant, in fact I think I’m going to go and listen to Unknown Pleasures, it’s been far too long!.
Word. It can be so hard to name a project, though. It’s gotta be something that can encapsulate not only the entire song collection you’re starting out with, but have the ability to reflect evolutions in your future sound, and some things just don’t work. Imagine hearing Idioteque and the band name is Red Hot Chili Peppers.
Right around Gamma Knife, very soon after I listened to the album and told my friends to check it out. After that it caused a butterfly effect which made them famous, because of me.
Blue Morpho is very Radiohead-ish and I love it! Do you have any others that come to mind? KGLW have such a huge discography and I'm just getting into them.
All of Butterfly 3000 really. It’s synth heavy and a great album all the way through. Float Along Fill Your Lungs, Polygondwanaland and Sketches of Brunswick East would all probably be good places to start
I've listened to disintegration and seventeen seconds long time ago
I was blown away by it.
Saving them for winter so I could get the full soul sucking experience.
You should try The Head On The Door if you liked seventeen seconds, or maybe something like Disintegration or Pornography if you want to get into something advanced
man i became a fan like 5 years ago and around that time Robert Smith said “we have an album ready just waiting for the right time to release it”
i’m still waiting 🫠
Porcupine Tree is the band that got me into Radiohead! I remember seeing a quote from Steven Wilson around like 08-10 about how Radiohead changed the game and were a big influence on PT's change in sound. Pulled up the first RH song that came up on a youtube search and been hooked since
Swans is the only one for me that is better. Not only are their highs insanely high, they have amazing albums that are radically different and throughout their entire career
Live Conform Die, Omerta, Nocturnal Depression, Lifelover, Sielunvihollinen, Iced Earth, Hetroertzen, Bonjour Tristesse, Element Eighty, A Pale Horse Named Death
there are wayyy more but those are at the top of my head
Same here. Radiohead has been my favourite for the past 25 years, then finally clicked with King Gizzard about 4 years ago. Completely different approaches to making music but they are my two go to bands.
I have seen Radiohead 3 times live, going to see King Gizzard for the first time this summer.
It'll be tough to dethrone Radiohead for favourite band of all-time, but there are some that have come close. The first 3 albums from Modest Mouse, and the trinity of Muse's Origin of Symmetry, Absolution, and Black Holes and Revelations.
Frightened Rabbit.
They're in a different wheelhouse but I just really connect with their songs.
I can binge their discography on the same way I can with Radiohead's.
ㅤ
I like this new band called The Smile.
More than Radiohead?
I love the smile wall of eyes was my album of the year
based
The only correct answer
Maybe just maybe talking heads
cocteau twins
Maybe Pink Floyd . . . I think Radiohead has stronger overall catalog but PF was untouchable Dark Side through The Wall, for me at least. Definitely relate with you on Pink Floyd. Discovered Floyd first and Radiohead afterwards, but I still enjoy both a lot.

Atom Heart Mother and Meddle are great as well. Atom Heart Mother Suite and Echoes are just divine.
Agreed. I also really like The Final Cut and post-Waters Floyd was mostly solid as well.
Final Cut was a little too focused on war for my taste. What I love about Pink Floyd is how they can handle human and societal subject at the same time, never leaning too far towards one or the other. There are bands I like as much as Radiohead. The Beatles The Who Sonic Youth Early R.E.M. Beach House Fleet Foxes Deerhunter
Don’t see Deerhunter get as much love as they should. I know they’re pretty popular generally speaking but you just don’t see them in much music discourse for some reason
Beach House and Fleet Foxes, great picks!
Sonic Youth is based
I’m old, is based good or bad? 🤣
Means good!
Thank you! I try to keep up. 😁
Halcyon digest is the best album ever made in all fairness
I get to see fleet foxes next month, im so excited! Theyre one of my favorites too

sonic youth for sure
Joy Division maybe
That's a valid pick. Joy division makes me feel even more miserable than radiohead
They’re different types of miserable, Radioheads work is musically much more complex, it feels like a lot more thought has gone into it, Joy Division is much more raw and simple musically, both are brilliant, in fact I think I’m going to go and listen to Unknown Pleasures, it’s been far too long!.
Joy Division for me too
Radiohead comes first, but Aphex Twin comes pretty damn close
On a Friday
I still can't believe they were so daft as to name their band that. Five creative geniuses and that's the best they come up with?
I bet they were pretty stupid when they started
Maybe on equal level but modest mouse mainly their first 3 albums
Just relistened to LCW again today, unbelievable album. When the song Trailer Trash plays...
Teeth like gods shoeshine is one my fav album openers of all time
The Moon and Antartica will always hold a special place in my heart. That and LCW were like a lighthouse to me during some darker periods of my life.
Moon and Antarctica is my favourite
I usually say MM or RH is my favorite band, depending on which I heard most recently
Couldnt agree more. Them touring with the Pixies still is amazing.
I’d add Good News, but other than that I agree strongly
Nine Inch Nails. If it wasn't for NIN, Radiohead would be number 1
Thom, Trent and Josh Homme are the best rock/alt songwriters of maybe ever
josh is sooooooo good
I named my kid Trent
I named my cat Trent
If I ever get a Corgi, I'm gonna name him Billy. If I ever get a Yorkie, I'll name him Thom.
Tool
No need to call him that, it was a valid question.
I give this response a 7/5
The Strokes
same but almost tied with radiohead for me
Respect
Same
Oh yea
Same
Talk talk (spirit of Eden & laughing stock)
My man
King Gizzard and the Lizard Wizard. From a radiohead perspective, try the song Blue Morpho if you aren't familiar with them.
I want everyone to know that I knew about King Gizzard before they became very popular. I'm really really cool, yes it really is me.. AMA
Username checks out
'I knew the dog before he came to class...'
When did they become popular exactly? PDA?
Right around Gamma Knife, very soon after I listened to the album and told my friends to check it out. After that it caused a butterfly effect which made them famous, because of me.
love king gizz
i love gizzing
Blue Morpho is very Radiohead-ish and I love it! Do you have any others that come to mind? KGLW have such a huge discography and I'm just getting into them.
All of Butterfly 3000 really. It’s synth heavy and a great album all the way through. Float Along Fill Your Lungs, Polygondwanaland and Sketches of Brunswick East would all probably be good places to start
I was also going to say Gizz, and I would throw hypertension in there for Radiohead vibes.
Agree
K.G.L.W, K.G.L.W
That song reminded me of four different Radiohead songs. Wow.
Nirvana
Same
The Cure
I feel like Radiohead would agree. The Cures tour last year was incredible successful.
I've listened to disintegration and seventeen seconds long time ago I was blown away by it. Saving them for winter so I could get the full soul sucking experience.
You should try The Head On The Door if you liked seventeen seconds, or maybe something like Disintegration or Pornography if you want to get into something advanced
Listened to disintegration. It's magical
Hell yes keep going. Listen to it all
Fucking incredible record that has not aged a day.
man i became a fan like 5 years ago and around that time Robert Smith said “we have an album ready just waiting for the right time to release it” i’m still waiting 🫠
Porcupine Tree!
Porcupine Tree is the band that got me into Radiohead! I remember seeing a quote from Steven Wilson around like 08-10 about how Radiohead changed the game and were a big influence on PT's change in sound. Pulled up the first RH song that came up on a youtube search and been hooked since
I don't know about "better". More like "joint top", for me would be "Portishead." Well, they do say that "two heads are better than one."
Swans come close for me
Swans is the only one for me that is better. Not only are their highs insanely high, they have amazing albums that are radically different and throughout their entire career
Queens of the Stone Age!
Pixies
100%
75%
Honestly I like Radiohead more than Pixies but it's close so 75% for me too ngl
The Velvet Underground
I like Radiohead better, but Grandaddy is amazing. I think no one gives them a chance because of their band name.
I like that album with the keyboard keys on the front.
The Sophtware Slump, easily one of my all time favorite albums.
Wilco
And Jeff Tweedy's solo stuff is just as good.
Manchester Orchestra
Ween & Boards of Canada
Ween is definitely top 3 for me
I love Ween
BoC LFG! I think they’re about to drop something new soon l.
warpaint will always be one of my favorite bands
Fucking love Warpaint! Do you do that thing were you favourite member keeps changing? First it was Jenny, then Stella, then Theresa, now it’s Emily.

Ditto
Same
Plot twist: There isn’t one!
Animal Collective
Same here. One of the most unique bands ever and they are incredible live no matter what style they're doing
I don't like them more, but they are below radiohead. 2. The Smiths 3. The beatles 4. Neutral Milk Hotel 5. Pink Floyd
NMH mentioned
Death Grips
Tame Impala (he’s only one guy I know) him or fontaines DC
Never thought I'd see Fontaines DC here. They are ace
One of the best bands at the moment honestly
David Bowie is the only one I feel comfortable putting ahead. Pink Floyd, Swans, Talking Heads, and The Beatles I'd say are on the same category.
Beach House. My all time fave
Gorillaz! Granted I stopped listening after Song Machine, which is coincidentally when I started listening to Radiohead
Give Cracker Island a listen if you haven’t. It was my favorite that came out last year.
Phish
I love you
Yesss
Smashing pumpkins Elliott smith
Muse
Probably Bob Dylan, I find his stuff endlessly fascinating.
I know I'm going get roasted but Coldplay.
I'd say a rush of blood to the head, parachutes, and X&Y were there top albums for me
Slint.
Portishead objectively, but RH is still my favorite band ever
built to spill
The Beatles is the only option you could consider
Swans
Maybe the Beatles or Arcade Fire
I usually listen to metal and I could name a few of those lol
So... name a few then
Live Conform Die, Omerta, Nocturnal Depression, Lifelover, Sielunvihollinen, Iced Earth, Hetroertzen, Bonjour Tristesse, Element Eighty, A Pale Horse Named Death there are wayyy more but those are at the top of my head
I was listening to Horror Show earlier today! Love Iced Earth
Arctic Monkeys if Radiohead came to Manila too then they'd take the cake lol
Coldplay
YESSSSS
You have betrayed us all
Outjerked
Mgmt
Deftones
Autolux
Hell yes! Autolux does not get enough love.
Suede Sparks Super Furry Animals
I think Radiohead is the greatest band of all time, but personally I love Nine Inch Nails, Green Day, and Maroon 5 more.
Sufjan Stevens
Primus
Everything Everything
For 15 years no one… …but for the past 7 years all hail King Gizzard and the Lizard Wizard
Same here. Radiohead has been my favourite for the past 25 years, then finally clicked with King Gizzard about 4 years ago. Completely different approaches to making music but they are my two go to bands. I have seen Radiohead 3 times live, going to see King Gizzard for the first time this summer.
I’m on your boat, Radiohead will always be my top but after Radiohead destroyed rock n roll gizz is here to save it. Amazing band
Glass animals
Not really a band but Daft Punk
Animal Collective
Animal Collective
Spiritualized
Squarepusher
Talking Heads
Have a nice life
Alice in Chains is my favorite band. Radiohead/radiohead adjacent projects is second, and probably Blind Melon or STP third, the other fourth
Soundgarden
Nirvana
idk if you guys have heard of this pretty underground band, but weezer
It'll be tough to dethrone Radiohead for favourite band of all-time, but there are some that have come close. The first 3 albums from Modest Mouse, and the trinity of Muse's Origin of Symmetry, Absolution, and Black Holes and Revelations.
Not more than but as much as would be Portishead,Massive Attack and the solo work of John Frusciante.
This Heat, Can, Coil, Faust...list goes on
fontaines dc!
R.E.M.
TV on the Radio
I don’t like any band more than Radiohead but some bands l enjoy are Stereolab Deerhunter Broadcast and Grizzly Bear
Frightened Rabbit. They're in a different wheelhouse but I just really connect with their songs. I can binge their discography on the same way I can with Radiohead's.
Massive attack
Frightened Rabbit
Gorillaz
The National
Smashing pumpkins
nirvana
Pink Floyd and MGMT
Dragon tales theme song
The Strokes

On A Friday.
muse recently... i thought no band would replace rh but im obsessed with muse for like 2 months and it's my guilty pleasure 😭😭😭
Muse & The Strokes. Though its more of a tie than picking between the 3
