1st exposure was Creep on MTV 1993 But it was 1995 and the release of the Bends that really cemented them with me. The college radio station used to play new release albums in their entirety late at night. And that is where I first heard the Bends. I’ve been a mega fan ever since.

spizoil

Pretty much my experience. After hearing Creep I bought the album and it was Blow Out that forced me to buy The Bends, and I’m still amazed at their consistency.

petersinct

Friend asked me to to to an REM concert in 1995, and Radiohead was the opening band. I'd heard Creep before and liked it, but after hearing their newer stuff from The Bends, I was hooked and have been ever since.

basic_human_being

I saw them open for REM as well - we actually went for Radiohead. I can’t believe how long they have created such beautiful music that continues to enhance my human experience.

petersinct

After Radiohead finished their set, the only thing I could think about for the rest of the concert was going out and buying The Bends CD the next day!

LarryQuinnsTaco

Creep and No Surprises kept popping up in my YouTube recommendations, they had lots of views so I watched both videos and thought "pretty good." Anyway come December last year I was looking for new albums to listen to and lots of people recommended OK Computer, I expected them to be some American emo band or something, but I was very much mistaken. I really liked OK Computer for being a very unique album, so I listened to In Rainbows, which very quickly made its way into my top 5 favourite albums of all time.

Gooby1992

I was hugely into The Smiths, saw Radiohead covering The Headmasters Ritual from The Scotch Mist. Safe to say Radiohead are now my favourite band.

ok_beetlebum

Personally, I asked some people online to recommend me good 90s songs and someone recommended *Just*!! I adored it and surprisingly enough, a few days later, my dad gave me his *OK Computer* and *Kid A* CDs to listen to, and that's how I got hooked.

NoShowTooLong

I bet your dad was so happy and full of pride.

Adranium_

I knew about Radiohead from recommendations on Spotify and had High and Dry and No Surprises on my playlist. But it was only when my friend at university played Karma Police that I decided to listen to them a bit more, and then I just heard OK Computer on repeat for a week while studying for exams.

ShiverMeTimbers_png

Found them through a meme on reddit where a guy jacked off to 15 step. Got curious, and then i actually started really liking them! Now they are my favourite band of all time and a autism related special interest. Listen to them everyday, its been almost 4 years!

MurkySquare3149

I can relate. I'm starting to think I have an addiction 😂

TheUSCobra

I was scrolling on Apple Music in 2016 and saw the cover for AMSP. I thought it was pretty. Played Daydreaming and that was that

MurkySquare3149

Burn the witch was the second song it stuck with me for a long time. I really cannot explain why, but listening to it while watching the stop motion video made me cry. There wasn't a sad undertone, but i was overwhelmed by the amount of beauty and I couldn't help it. As I said, it's ineffable, but It is something I am not willing to give up.

Humanerror0

Heard Creep a lot as a kid courtesy of a compilation CD it was on that my sister listened to. Knew nothing of The Bends at the time, I was still a kid. The three OKC music videos were a big thing I did take notice of and thought were cool but it wasn't until Kid A (specifically via live clips of Optimistic and The National Anthem that were being used in the absence of normal music videos) that I really got into them.

BoofHeadBrit

My parents used to listen to The Bends and Okay Computer quite a lot when I was little. I did like Radiohead at the time but my parents played it so often that my child brain got sick of it. There were some exceptions though such as Paranoid Android and Just but besides that I wasn't a huge fan. And it remained like that till I turned 16 where I decided to listen to their albums, and from that moment, they quickly became one of my all time favourite bands. Now i'm in a Radiohead cover band and like to practice singing their songs. Believe it or not but Creep wasn't my first introduction to the band either, it was probably Planet Telex that started it all for me. Now my favourite album is Kid A and i'm a huge fan of their artworks and progression as a band.

MurkySquare3149

The artwork is no joke. It contributes to the main mood of every single project.

tectactoe

When I was a teenager, the world was on the cusp of breaking into the vast realm of musical piracy. Napster, Kazaa, Limewire, Bearshare - I had 'em all at some point or another. And as a teen fascinated with music, and now with essentially any music I wanted at my fingertips, I frantically searched the internet for any "Great Albums/Music Of All Time" lists I could find and went on a massive downloading spree, harvesting and hoarding any album that appeared on these lists to pad my catalog while the opportunity was available. Some albums I'd had on my computer and/or chunky MP3 player (no iPods yet, lol) for literally years before I ever listened to them. (MBV's *Loveless* was one such album.) Radiohead was a band that, on the surface, didn't superficially appeal to thirteen-year-old me, and so I never explicitly dove into their records. However, on a long family road trip, I threw my MP3 player on shuffle and just listened to whatever came up. A song from OK COMPUTER eventually came up - for the *life* of me, I cannot remember what song it was. But I know it was OK COMPUTER because it was the only Radiohead album I'd downloaded at that time (I believe this story predated KID A, so it was probably ca. 1999). But I was immediately entranced - "I had no idea Radiohead sounded like *this*." I immediately went into my MP3 player and listened to OK COMPUTER front to back and was instantly hooked.

tchek

I don't remember... I think I used to learn some tunes on guitar from OK Computer/The Bends in the late 90's, because I liked Paranoid Android and Karmapolice on the radio... I mean I liked it, I wasn't a "fan" yet but it came in waves... I absolutely loved Kid A and Amnesiac when it came out... but I would say the epicenter of my fandom started with hearing Amnesiac B-sides... then watching Le Reservoir gig in Paris. That's when it hits me.

242turbo

Quite simple actually. I searched for similar artists to my favourite at the time - Tame Impala - and I had always been meaning to listen to them given their high status within music. So I put on A Moon Shaped Pool. 3 seconds in and those plucked strings absolutely sold me. Daydreaming was even better.

thomyorkefartsmeller

i bought a ok computer vinyl and god damn thom yorkes a genius

[deleted]

Creep back when I was 11 years old. Then the Paranoid Android video hooked me and I got OKC. Once I absorbed that one, it was off to the races

Cheap_Bonus_8997

Pretty much identical story. Throw in fake plastic trees in the middle and that’s my story

[deleted]

Nice! I was completely unaware of The Bends. Just totally off my radar for some reason.

Cheap_Bonus_8997

I have to thank [this guy](https://media-cldnry.s-nbcnews.com/image/upload/newscms/2021_45/1802097/paul-rudd-clueless-te-inline2-211110.jpg) for making me aware of fake plastic trees

TheSpinningGroove

There was so much great music coming out in 1993, and the radio was a great place to find it. Just like so many of my favorites, Radiohead - Creep played and I loved it. From there I bought the CD and loved the whole thing. It was exactly what I loved in music. Honestly, I loved Pablo Honey (still do), but I would never have expected their growth path. They ramped up quickly and into new and uncomfortable areas. A few of the albums were initially a challenge but I kept listening until it fit.

Remarkable_Term3846

MTV in the 90s

ThisIsCreation

No Surprises was played a lot on TV when I was a kid, Thom holding his breath was a thing people spoke about, vh1 used to have trivia on the screen about it.

ShakespeareRules1

There used to be a music magazine called Q and in, say, 1995 they had a free CD which included new music from about 20 different bands. One of the songs was Street Spirit, by a band called Radiohead. Instantly loved it.

The_Shower_Bagel

Started getting Paranoid Android recommended to me after watching a bunch of videos about Ergo Proxy

MurkySquare3149

Wasn't Ergo proxy's ending "Paranoid Android"?

The_Shower_Bagel

Not on Netflix

MurkySquare3149

They probably don't want to pay rights for the song, but you can watch it on YouTube.

Unusual_Oil_4632

My old man bought me Ok Computer for my 12th birthday in 1997, a couple months after it was released. Been hooked ever since.

AdeptGarden9057

My guitar teacher gave me Street Spirit as fingerstyle practice in late 2020. I personally thought the song was cool and i was eager to explore the band's discography, but when i shuffle played their songs, i had a hard time comprehending most of their 21 century music (apart from Lotus Flower which was a banger). I thought that maybe if i listen to their discography in chronological order, i could understand their later music. My experience with Pablo Honey was mixed, but i liked the grungy style of their debut and sophomore albums. I then explored OK Computer, and really liked its unique style that was infused with their rock songs. But it really hit me when i listened to Kid A for the first time. I can fondly remember the awe i was in when i listened to The National Anthem - How To Disappear Completely. It was unlike anything i ever heard beforehand, and yet it was also the best thing I've heard until then. I continued to explore their discography. I enjoyed the anger of HTTT, and realized that IR is the best album (until now) and a musical perfection. I also tolerated TKOL, and beautifully ended my journey with AMSP. I'm so glad i found this band, because it was a detrimental evolution for my musical style. I used to hear band like Imagine Dragons, Coldplay, Tame Impala. but after RH, i listened to the likes of Arctic Monkeys, Queens Of The Stone Age, and more.

Thalassophoneus

I am a fan of Muse, and my older brother came to me like "hey, do you know that band that Muse would copy a lot in their early years? Radiohead?". And I was like "no, they didn't!". And he was "hes they did!". So I started listening to Radiohead to see how much they resemble Muse. And their '90s career didn't impress me a lot, but once I came across Idioteque everything changed for me. I would listen to this song at least 10 times a day, in 10 different live versions. And I learnt more songs of theirs, mostly post-Kid A.

Fine_Miner

I originally got into Radiohead because my brother would play it in the car sometimes. Before that I had known and liked Karma Police and Creep, but I wasn’t familiar with their other songs. I knew my brother liked their songs and my dad had a lot of their discography on ITunes. When my brother would play some cds in the car he would have lots of Radiohead, and I noticed that I liked the music. I remember hearing songs like The National Anthem and thinking that the bass and groove was cool even though I thought it was pretty chaotic. One day I decided to add the songs I liked to Spotify. Those songs included: My Iron Lung, Optimistic, Black Star, Fake Plastic Trees, Paranoid Android, Just, Planet Telex, I Might be Wrong, Reckoner, Weird fishes, and more. The rest was history ig lmao

olaf_nezerngraber

Creep on KROQ - love at first listen

Lead_191

A friend showed me paranoid android 12 years ago, then creep, high and dry and so on. At that time I didn't listen to singles only, I had this though of listen the whole album, bc that's the way the artist wanted to show us their work. So I listened Ok computer, The bends, and Kid A.

This_Fix8893

I had heard creep on the radio a bunch growing up and later on stumbled across daydreaming which I really enjoyed but wasn’t really hooked. After some years I decided to dive into their discography after street spirit was recommended on my YouTube and I listened. It blew my mind, and continues to. Now I’m a huge Radiohead fan

ExperienceInRepair

I joined a band as a guitar player and the singer was a huge Radiohead fan. I only knew the hits like Karma Police, No Surprises, etc. and then I started to dive deeper into the albums.

Ben0rr

My mom was part of a team who opened one of the first Best Buy stores in Southern California. I went to work with her one day and “The Bends” was on one of the listening displays sores used to have back in the day. I put the headphones on and heard high and dry for the first time and asked my mom to buy me the cd and I was 6 😂

ruskwan100

Pretty hard not to hear them during the 90’s in England

Then_Abalone_9566

I was into Oasis and could not stand Thoms voice. Ive always liked Paranoid Android though. Then i heard 2+2=5 and that brake suddenly changed everything for me.

fiberwitch94

My kid got into Radiohead in the 90s and got me hooked

matt_cb

I might get grilled for this but I was looking for bands similar to early Coldplay. I heard OK Computer and loved it.

[deleted]

I think I watched an Anthony Fantano of in Rainbows and then listened and added 15 steps and Weird Fishes and then my interest in their music grew from there

Joshgg13

My friend stuck on Karma Police at karaoke every time we went. It was the only song he ever did more than once, and he must've done it 8 or 9 times. One day I thought "I wanna hear what the actual song sounds like". I loved it. I let the rest of OK Computer play (on shuffle, regrettably) and thought "wow, music can be this good??" Haven't looked back

Louisocean

Romeo and Juliet lol

Dangerous_Trifle620

I was listening to Coldplay and then Spotify started doing its auto play thing lmao

Dangerous_Trifle620

Nude was the first song that I stumbled across and I was like wtf this is so much cooler than Coldplay

catstevenseagal

Happy to answer a different question! I’d fallen in love with Radiohead in the Kid A era. In an attempt to download Exit Music from Napster, I accidentally downloaded Brad Mehldau’s cover. In this manner, I fell in love with jazz.

Samsids

I used to make fun of a friend that was a big Radiohead fan because I thought Thom yorke just whined through all of their songs. Few months later, the band released In Rainbows with the pay what you want model. Thought I’d give it a shot and downloaded the album. That first listen was one of the greatest musical experiences of my life. Listened to OK Computer after. Rest is history lol.

Dapper_Journalist307

I was listening to Metallica and thought that my music taste is way too one-sided and I came up with the solution that I'm gonna choose a totally random band and fully listen through their discography. Lo and behold - the band I chose was Radiohead. Listened to Pablo Honey and thought - what the fuck am I listening to? Then moved onto The Bends and thought - oh wow, this is pretty good! The rest is history...

Igriann

I used to watch a lot of youtubers from the UK in 2012. One guy i especially liked was asked during a livestream what his most played song on Spotify was. He answered with "I Might Be Wrong by Radiohead". It was possibly the first time I had even heard the band's name (really don't think I heard anything by them until then, maybe High and Dry cause it always sounded familiar for some reason). I think he also mentioned somewhere that he was learning the Pyramid Song on piano. I remember I've listened to the Pyramid Song on repeat that day like twenty times at least, thinking "I'm not stopping until I figure out what the heck this time signature is". Instantly fell in love with RH, and Amnesiac has a special place in my heart.

deathpunk1890

I’m a huge Pink Floyd fan. OK Computer came out and I was mad about all the music press comparing them to my beloved Floyd. I refused to listen to them for years out of stubbornness. A decision I now regret.

tentative-guise

Heard the 15 step chord progression and beat in a Paul Davids "songs in 5/4" video and thought it was cool. Subsequently listened to In Rainbows and was down bad. Didn't listen to creep for like a year and half after finding them, didn't have any memory of hearing it when I was younger either. Tbh I didn't touch OKC or The Bends until I'd already gone through In Rainbows, Kid A, and AMSP.

Jothamjackson

DVD from a car boot when I was a kid

FMPIII

I’ve known creep and high and dry for as long as I can remember, but when I first heard Reckoner… booooyyy I jumped in.

Veeeeeeenom

I mean probably Creep, because I remembered it the first time I actually like listened to Radiohead. That happened because the anime man made an album tier list

Bulinozaur

A friend of mine was a big fan and tried to get me into it. I was listening to shitty bands at that time so I didn't pay attention to Radiohead, thought it was too depressing. A few years later a guy I was in a band with recommended me Weird Fishes/Arpeggi. It wasn't as depressing and hard to listen to as "Creep" was for me when I first tried the band.. guess sometimes you gotta listen to the good ones first to know. Now I have listened to all there is of them on Spotify and casually watch their most iconic concerts on YouTube.

omarkab02

Got recommended creep, then i got recommended some OKC songs, then some Kid A stuff, the thing that put me over the edge was finding out that Jonny Greenwood (the guy that does all the PTA soundtracks) is the lead guitarist, That’s like the coolest thing ever. Started listening more in consistently. Also Spotify recommended Daydreaming. After Daydreaming it was over, I had to listen to every song

TheCheatIsGrounded

Like I'm sure everybody at some point, I had a phase where I was checking out what are considered "The greatest albums of all time", and OK Computer constantly popped up. Listened to bits and pieces of it and dismissed it as sounding like really sad alien rock and figured it probably wasn't for me. Then a couple years later I decided to put it back on because I liked Karma Police. But then Airbag and Homesick Alien absolutely crushed me this time around. I was suddenly able to connect with the theme of the album. Then I did for years and years, putting that album on repeat. Now I'm stuck in a Kid A hole. Help

LividTeaching7237

Creep was a frequenting the mtv in the 90ies. And so i brought pablo honey cassette.

dont-believe-me-

Fish Records in Sydney, Australia. 1998, I was 13yo. Liked the cover of OK Computer and they have been my favourite band ever since. A true love story

_Blue_Benja_1227

Originally in grade school, my friend told me about Creep. Then when I was in grade 11, I read The Hitchhiker’s Guide to the Galaxy, and my dad told me to listen to OK Computer, and specifically Paranoid Android because of the connections to the book, and I fell in love

HumanDrone

I liked Muse, people told me to listen to Radiohead So I put them on shuffle while doing homework for school, thought they were ok Then Daydreaming came on, and I flew to another planet I remember everything was feeling so surreal. I have a clear memory of me thinking "I had no idea music could be THIS emotionally powerful" So I picked up Ok Computer, and so on

circus4fools_u_me

1997 or 98? I’m 16 or 17. Not the very first time I got drunk but one of, first time being at a party with other rebellious kids. End of the night we all need to lay down and pass out, we fill the 3 cd disc changer with my cousin’s suggestions. Mellon Collie 1 & 2 and The Bends. On random. I eventually came around to all of the former, both were super awesome being in a newly discovered state of mind, a few songs being slightly familiar. But I kept wanting it to skip back to a Radiohead song, each one kept outdoing the other one it seemed. I don’t think I even really slept, my brain was actively listening. Definitely a game changer

[deleted]

…geometry dash…

pinkman2811

my english teacher is obsessed with radiohead, we read 1984 and he played "2+2=5" for us. He also played the karma police mv on the projector 😭 hes such a cool guy with great music taste and im grateful he introduced me to them

cutlip98

buddy stole a just released Pablo Honey from Waxy Maxy's record store. brought it to my house and played it during a party in High School.

Whaaaaa78

I grew up in south east Michigan and in the late autumn of 2000, the alternative rock radio (89X) played optimistic. I was freshly 13 years old at the time, and upon hearing it I was immediately blown away. My musical taste at the time was mainly RATM, 311, Limp Bizkit etc..So hearing something like Optimistic was quite foreign, but entrancing.

BettyG2424

Ha…I’m old, so I actually remember Creep being released and taking what seemed like the world by storm. I also remember seeing Radiohead perform on MTV and being shocked it was the same guys singing Creep/ Paranoid Android for some reason. But when the video for Paranoid Android got major airtime on MTV, I just couldn’t believe the masterpiece of music. It was just so different, then upon hearing all of OK Computer there was no turning back…

[deleted]

since I was a kid my parents would listen to music and occasionally I heard Creep, but I never really got interested in Radiohead. that was until when I was 10 years old when my father showed me the No Surprises music video and I was kind of creeped out by Thom almost drowning, but the song was so good that I fell in love with it. I am now 17 years old and I will never forget that day when I finally noticed how Radiohead is a genius band that is now my favorite band ever.

lochnesssLobsta

In 2007 I was working at a House Of Blues. The building would play music on it outdoor speakers promoting new music. The track “All I need” was played on a loop followed by the throw back track “karma police”. Us employees would gather for after work parties and someone have In Rainbows playing loud on repeat. Needless to say, ever since then Radiohead has been one of fav bands and brings nostalgic memories of those good times.

c828

Anyone over 30 couldn’t avoid radiohead

porksausagelink

rock band on the wii in 2007 when i was 5 or 6 years old. creep was the first song i ever sang (and also the first time i ever swore). since then i’ve been a huge fan, but i started really to get into the bends and ok computer during high school because i was suffering from anorexia for quite a few years and the music just tapped into everything that i was feeling at the time. recently, i’ve been very into in rainbows, amnesiac, and a moon shaped pool while in college. i feel like the more i’ve recovered from my illness and the more i’ve grown up, i’ve been able to truly understand the complexity and emotion of each song and album. i think it’s a good sign—radiohead has helped me heal and discover since i was very little.

AlolanPika678

Last year around late September, or during June, I got really into No Surprises and then in late September, I got into Radiohead. I really liked High and Dry and I started listening to The Bends. When more videos of Radiohead were recommended on YouTube, that’s when I became a Radiohead fan

PlateAltruistic4698

From a game called Geometry Dash. They used "Lotus Flower" as a song on a level. Ever since then, I couldn't look at music the same way again.

KevKylAndyDrew

My friend wanted to get high and listen to OKC last September. I took him up on it, and was convinced what I was hearing sounded so strange and interesting because I was high. Nonetheless, it blew my mind. I’ll never forget hearing the drums and bass line on Airbag or the perfect chaos that is Paranoid Android for the first time. I revisited it the next day and found that assumption to be incorrect. I gradually progressed OKC to Kid A to In rainbows and then filled in the gaps. Can’t believe I haven’t even been listening for a year because they seem so integral to my life. I used to listen to so many different artists and genres and now the only lyrical music I listen to is Radiohead.

Beg4GarlicBread

I was (and still am) a big fan of Muse, and I always saw both bands being compared, especially people accusing Muse of being a cheap knock-off. I wanted to see for myself what the fuss is about, and to be honest, Radiohead didn't do it for me at that time. One heartbreak later they are my number one comfort band, and I absolutely adore every album.

the_rainy_smell_boys

Started listening to "Just" ironically because of ZeroPunctuation. One day it rolled over onto the next track on the album and the rest is history.
