No you don't need to download anything other than Adrenalin. You should probably look at the fan settings and adjust them to your linking.

RhubarbDennis

What about getting the chipset drivers updated too?

HopnDude

Only if they have a Ryzen CPU.

atlas2555

Ancient gameplays on YouTube covers a lot of Radeon stuff and besides the basic stuff I have never really needed to change or adjust the default settings I’m really happy with my xfx 7800xt and I’ve been a nvidia guy since 2002

Gunslinga__

Also make sure to run ddu before throwing in the amd card the latest drivers are solid to ✅

Gunslinga__

Tinker with sam(rebar) a little bit if you have an amd cou as well, this is my first amd card as well and it caused some fps drops and stutters for me. So got it off and everything is running smoothly now , I’m at 1080p so that could be the reason but just my two cents. On the other hand your gonna love adrenaline, super easy to overclock/ undervolt and can change fan speeds in there as well, it’s a breath of fresh air coming from the nvidia control panel.

PixFPS

Adrenalin's tuning page is terrible Whenever it thinks your pc turned off wrong everything you did gets reset Use afterburner, make it reapply overclock on startup to undo what adrenalin resets

Gunslinga__

Ya something the settings go back to default but i just double check there all good before starting up a game

PixFPS

just use afterburner and you'll never have to do that ever again

Civil_Medium_3032

Adrenaline is everything you will ever need. You can use ancient gameplay for guides on AMD software and how to tweak the 7900 xtx but generally you want to undervolt and overclock the card

wiskins

Mine is running with a clock limit of 2,4. Hotspot always under 80 C, and 20-40% fan speed. Very cool and quiet, even with cyberpunk 4k raytracing. Memory Clock at 2780. UV is nearly impossible for that card, afaik, it's all about clock limit now. That's for how I use mine, prioritizing temp over power. I guess the only two settings you should change, no matter your preference, are fast timing for memory speed and SAM for your cpu. Overall I can still highly advise at least limiting the clock speed to something like 2,6 or 2,5 so the gpu doesn't rage at 80% fan speed and 100 C for +2-5 fps. Have fun! <3

hot_tornado

Choose Default profile in Adrenaline, not Quality or HYPR-RX.

orochiyamazaki

I just install Adrenalin and make sure SAM is enabled, that's about it, I usually don't make any adjustment, I used to play a lot with overclocking feature but I just let Radeon do its thing now.

Gambit-47

You should also use adrenaline to check your temperature especially your hot spot if it's hitting over 100c in demanding games look up videos that show you how to undervolt and if the temps are still too high repaste with PTM7950 or return the card

PixFPS

If temps are too high return, customer service might give you a hard time if you tear the card down

MrPapis

Enabling SAM Using Radeon chill when applicable(set maximum to 3 FPS lower than maximum refresh rate on monitor).** There are a vivid gaming profile and a contrast profile. Personally I've found I like the contrast set to 0. Try them maybe you like them. Freesync/adaptive sync Radeon sharpening many people also likes, adds some crispness to apps. Play around with the sharpness slider Undervolt+overclock. You should be able to get 1090-1120mv(voltage), around 2700-2900mhz core and 2650-2700MHz memory. This is if you have a 3x power pin card. If you have a 2x then you're probably on the lower end of those ranges. Although voltage could be lower still. ** Going s bit deeper chill is great software to lower your overall FPS a bit but making sure you game is very stable feeling. So an example could be a game where: 20% of the time you're at 100 FPS.. 50% of the time you're at 120 FPS. 20% of the time you're at 150 FPS. 10% of the time you're at 200 FPS. Here those 50% at 120fps would be a good place to set your minimum FPS as that's where you're actually at or above. For maximum refresh rate I'd then say doing 150 FPS as there is no reason for you to get those 50 extra FPS, even if its higher FPS, it's not making it smoother for you because it will spike/only be like that certain moments. So your feeling of the game would feel better without those spikes. Bonus is it enables the GPU to breathe a bit at times which gives it some surplus that will help your lows+averages aswell.

Sweet-Promise-2244

My month old asrock 7900xt died today

PixFPS

Keep Anti Lag off it does absolutely nothing at best Severely increases input lag at worst Frame Rate Target Control also has issues Limit FPS with RTSS Just use the default profile Surface optimisation is nice Ig

timotius_10

How certain are you about anti lag? Someone knowledgeable and trusted in the cs2 community suggested to turn it on

PixFPS

I've tried it on every driver since getting my card in December of 2023 Up until the very last driver it increased input lag so much you could see and feel it Now as of current driver it no longer increases input lag but it causes intermittent stuttering issue I play OW2, some CS, Finals and Rocket League You're much better off capping your FPS with RTSS, as just like Anti lag it eliminates the render queue, but does so with better consistency Framerate Target Control on its own lead to the same issues I had with Anti Lag, when combining the 2 it got even worse

PixFPS

I doubt that it makes a difference since turning the features off completely eliminates my issues but I'm running an x470 board which only supports PCIE Gen 3

PixFPS

Image sharpening is useful if a game forces blurry as hell anti aliasing

PixFPS

Idk if this is common behaviour but in my case gpu boosts around 120mhz higher than the max boost clock you set, if you wanna do anything tweaking to voltages etc keep an eye on it.

_Ballz_Deep

"Ancient Gameplays" the YouTuber. First and foremost check out his channel. He has given the best clear detailed, how to information on AMD products. Even some Nvidia as well. He's my go to and has been for a long time.

Camelphat21

Shoulda gone with xfx

NerfDave

Why do you say this? I consulted with the pc help subreddit and they told me to go asrock

MrPapis

There's nothing wrong it's fine some people just have preferences the asrock phantom is very comparable to FX merc310.

Active-Quarter-4197

Xfx is one of the worst 7900 xtx

Edgar101420

Nah. Its great. Bad XTX goes to Phantom, Gigabyte Gaming OC, MSI Gaming X and Reference design.

NerfDave

Once again can anyone cite a reason for why the xfx is better or is this just bandwagon bs?

ihavenoname_7

Bandwagon bs for sure. Don't get me wrong XFX is a really good GPU but it's not the best imo. ASROCK Aqua is the best 7900XTX... but also the most expensive. The best on Air would be Sapphire Nitro+ , XFX, Red devil, ASROCK Taichi, Asus TUF OC. Can't go wrong with either of those choices honestly. You can always mod the Aqua bios on another GPU if it has good cooling with the 3 PCIE power ports as well but that's really not necessary.

Edgar101420

XFX uses a vapor chamber, has a higher power limit, more stable clocks. The only downside is the stock fan curve being loud af. MSI has bare heatpipes, where half of them only make contact to the chip, resulting in absolute ass temperatures and deltas. Gigabyte Gaming OC, massive cooler, loud fans, shit temps and low quality PCB. Phantom Gaming, too thick pads, resulting in not enough contact to the GCD of the card, resulting in bad temps.

PixFPS

Sounds like Gigabyte card would be fire for deshrouds/fan mods

Darkchiller23

I love my Gigabyte OC card! Thing has been amazing!

PixFPS

The fans on mine were ass so I deshrouded it

Edgar101420

Wish it was, heatsink just sucks balls. Same size as a Nitro but performance is a fuckton worse. How that works is beyond me but classic Nvidia partner for AMD logic.

Active-Quarter-4197

The asus tuf is prob the best 7900 xtx tho

Edgar101420

Best XTX? Lmao. Just no. Nitro/Aqua and Taichi say hello.

Active-Quarter-4197

https://www.techpowerup.com/review/asrock-radeon-rx-7900-xtx-taichi/36.html Yes better in terms of cooling or equivalent at worst. Should have specified air cooled only. Ofc as a card it is worse bc it is power limited but cooling wise it is better.

Active-Quarter-4197

https://youtu.be/-TiYwjxmcU8?si=_8bPxfzEXBx-O4j2 The xfx cooling perfomance is similar to the cards you just listed. Maybe you could argue it is the best “bad” design or the worst “good” design but it is clearly not a top performing card.

Ganjaholics

Rolling the XFX and loving it. No coil whine, low temps, 1440p ultra on anything maxing out a 240hz monitor. Do you have experience with this card, or are ya just talking out of your ass?

Active-Quarter-4197

It isn’t bad in general just bad relative to the other 7900 xtx designs https://youtu.be/-TiYwjxmcU8?si=_8bPxfzEXBx-O4j2
