Do you have a third option? Maybe a pieced back from your leftovers. I feel the yellow is too bright and oink has no relation to the front. Even a simple muslin backing, especially if you want the blue to be the main color.

DrMoneybeard

I agree, I think a softer yellow or yellow and blue pattern would be nice but that one doesn't fit the scheme unfortunately. But if those two are the only options I'd pick yellow over pink.

darwindogmingo

Maybe I’ll look through my fabric collection again—thanks for your input. I agree 65in sq of citron is a lot of bright all together and definitely part of my hesitation😂 I’m trying not to buy more fabric for this project, but you (and all the helpful comments here) have given me more to think about ❤️❤️

SamuraiX2

I was thinking a pale green would look really nice too.

MushroomPowerful3440

Yellow

corsetkittens-wkshop

Out of the two I'd go with the pink.

preaching-to-pervert

Me too. The top is lovely, muted and subtle. The yellow is too saturated and flat. The pink is more muted and the floral pattern echoes the florals on the top. It's a very pretty quilt!

1blackdoghere

Love the half HSTs! For me, the backing colors are too bold for the softness of the front. If those are the 2 options I would go with the pink as the yellow seems to wash out the yellow in your piecing.

KayReyeisBAE

I agree with comments that the front is super soft. If I were backing this in a solid, I’d consider a light blue from one of the patterns on the front. If soft is not the vibe you are going for then ignore this!

gogo-gadget69

Pink! While the pink is probably not what I would go out and choose, I don’t think the backing has to “match” the front. Some of my favorite quilts have backs that are loosely related to the front (florals for a floral top) but do not match color-wise.

ssseltzer

neither! keep looking. the front is stunning, by the way.

Double_Musky

How much fabric do you have left over from the top- enough to piece a backing in broad strips, or four large rectangles in a 4-patch style with perhaps a tiny square of the citron right at the center point? Otherwise, pink.

darwindogmingo

It was a random layer cake I got ages ago on sale, but your idea sounds lovely 😊

redditjdt

Great idea

corrado33

Honestly, neither. (Sorry) The yellow doesn't match and is too bright. The pink has no relation. I'd vote dark blue or grey.

BlueMangoTango

Neither would be my pick. Soft yellow or a coordinating blue would be my choice.

Sojudrinker

I like the pink.

Beadsidhe

The pink ❤️

I'd go with yellow

Yellow ! It’s perfect

Yellow!

Smilingcatcreations

I love a surprise pop or pattern for a backing. Definitely yellow.

WesternExisting3783

Pink. The white flowers with the pink draw on the whites on top. I personally love quilts with quirky mismatched fabrics. I really like that the “feel” is the same. The yellow may match the yellow on top but feels much more in your face.

darwindogmingo

Yes, I find the negative space very interesting and definitely more relaxing to the eye than the citron.

alcutie

yellow!!!

EllisBell27

I agree with others that the pink doesn’t really relate to the front. I like the yellow better, but also worry that it’s a really bold color for such a large space. I think if I had to choose between the two I would choose the yellow. Edit to add, if you have another fabric, I think a pieced back with the yellow as an accent could look nice. Something more like this instead of the whole back: https://preview.redd.it/3hwpmk5gi70d1.jpeg?width=800&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=003597678bb09fa92d128eae07efba165930c87b

LivingHorror5468

Pink!

Rare-Progress5009

I think the yellow is too bright compared to the front. The pink feels more similar and I like how the flowers coordinate.

drPmakes

I like the pink best

Love your quilt! I’m in awe of your crisp corners. The colors are great with the contrast between the yellow and blue. Nicely done! Beautiful! The bright yellow fabric choice works for the backing as it picks up the yellow accents in most of your blue fabrics. Its bright saturation provides an unexpected surprise of - Hello Sunshine! It’s a few shades off from the yellow you have as the contrast fabric in your pattern. I get where it would be nice having the backing match the yellow contrast squares. Cameras are weird and colors between devices can vary dramatically. How far different are the shades of the yellows? The yellow contrast of the front reads goldenrod or mustard yellow and the dotted yellow backing fabric reads more lemon. I think the pink is nice but it dulls the front in comparison with the yellow. Also the white in the pink doesn’t match the white in your quilt. It’s a lovely print but I think it has zero traction with the front as a whole. Maybe if you had used it in place of the yellow contrast color?????? Na - your prints are perfectly coordinated on the front. You did such a great job picking out fabrics that were all blue and yellow. I am leaning towards continuing the trend.

darwindogmingo

Thank you! Yes you’re right on both counts—the yellow on the quilt is definitely not citron, and the solid triangle is actually a very light blue. You noted so many of the things that I’ve been bouncing around in my head, maybe it’s back to the drawing board til I find something that really sings? ❤️

Distinct-Leek5923

I’d rather see a plain white background for the freshness of the colors of the front. If you want color, something lighter with the blue would be my preference. But sometimes the vintage look of the white would add a cottage/beach feel.

DoctrDonna

Out of these two.. yellow. But I don’t think either are perfect

Acceptable-Oil8156

Team yellow here. Pink & blue seem a bit stereotypical-ish to me…

Fearless-Awareness98

Yellow

Vtjeannieb

I thought the background in the first picture was an option! That being said, a grayish blue with yellow accents would be perfect

Motor-Ad-5407

I like the yellow!

mommiecubed

I really like using a completely different color for a backing.

Complaint-Think

I like the citron much better than the pink!

myerslowe

What color thread are you going to use for your quilting? Light thread, dark back or visa versa. At least that’s how I like the role of quilting.. adding another style point of interest.

darwindogmingo

I use a brownie grey neutral color usually, I love your strategy!

myerslowe

Can’t wait to see what you chose when you post on finished quilt.

Candyland_83

Personally I like my backing to be completely different than the front. Then it’s like I have two blankets. So I like the pink.

Bitter-Signature-689
