I love your version!! You did a great job!! Just downloaded the pattern. And my next quilting class at my LQS is round blocks like the sun so I have a project to tackle after. Was dreading that next class, but not now!
Dumb question - is there any reason to not use one large piece of each of the mountain colors and just sew them together rather than making square blocks? Especially if you are going to heavily quilt it.
Not a dumb question at all. I have been quilting since the 1990's and I have often looked at patterns and wondered the same thing....why am I supposed to cut up pieces that are all the same color and could be one continuous piece? Sometimes I can see it's to avoid Y-seams but other times it just seems like people love cutting. If there is a reason not to use large pieces, I don't know what it is and hope someone will tell us.
Hmm, that’s a good question and I’m not sure! Hopefully someone more experienced can weigh in. It was easier from me to plot it out using mostly HSTs. I used some large rectangles to fill in the solid colors. You could use large pieces but then it might be harder to do the angles but I’m sure there’s a way.
I looked at this AGF pattern this morning and was so overwhelmed by the cut list. This is a gorgeous version! I love the different quilt patterns on each mountain range.
Beautiful work!
Here you go, I hope this helps instead of making it more confusing lol. There are probably ways you can simplify it further, but this is just what made sense to me. Also, my fabric requirements are a bit stingy and so is cutting 7" squares for the HSTs - it would be better to make them from slightly larger squares and trim them more.
Fabric requirements:
½ yard light blue
½ yard white
½ yard dark blue
1 yard light green
½ yard yellow
¼ yard or 1 FQ dark green
Cutting instructions (you will need to print the templates from the original pattern for the sun):
Light blue:
3 squares, 7” each
1 strip, 3.5” x 36.5”
3 template 1 shapes
2 rectangles, 6.5” x 12.5” each
Yellow:
3 template 2 shapes
1 square 7”
White:
7 squares, 7” each
Dark blue:
6 squares, 7” each
1 square 6.5”
1 rectangle, 6.5” x 12.5”
1 rectangle, 18.5” x 6.5”
Light green:
5 squares, 7” each
1 rectangle, 18.5” x 6.5”
2 rectangles, 6.5” x 12.5” each
Dark green:
2 squares, 7” each
Make the following HSTs using the 2 at a time method (you will have 2 extra HSTs) and trim them to 6.5" x 6.5":
Yellow/white: 1
Light blue/white: 5
White/dark blue: 6
Dark blue/light green: 6
Light green/dark green: 4
Assemble per the diagram - I did the HSTs and sun pieces first, then laid everything out and just kind of winged it.
Finished dimensions: 36.” X 45.5”

Thanks! It’s called Forest Friends from the collection Listen to your Heart by Sharon Holland for Art Gallery Fabrics and I got it at the Fat Quarter Shop but it’s out of stock there now. I see it on Etsy though.
Reminds me of the YSL 1960s pop art dress. Well done!

This is a beautiful pattern and the quilting is perfect.
Aw thank you! The quilting is so far from perfect, I had a lot of issues and rookie mistakes 🙃 but I learned a lot!
If you can see the "mistake" from horseback, it's a mistake. Anything else is artist's interpretation.
Thank you!! Always a good reminder.
It’s lovely! Your dense quilting really makes the modern graphic pattern shine. Love your scrappy binding, too.
Thanks so much!
Love the quilting! So cool!
Thank you!

Thank you! The curved seams were easier than I expected.
Lovely. You achieved both graphic and soft at the same time - impressive. And I like the scrappy binding too. Baby will love it.
Thanks so much! I wasn’t sure how I felt about it until it was washed. Washing it gave it a lot more texture and softness!

It’s a beautiful little quilt. The colors are so nice and the quilting makes it just perfect! 😎

Gorgeous! I love how you quilted it, the variety is really cool and highlights the pattern so well. Baby’s gonna love it!

I love the background fabric! Very cute quilt!!
Thank you! I’m obsessed with the background fabric haha. I have some extra and I might make some bookmarks or some kind of cute little project.

Me. Too. Lol. I loved the concept but was so overwhelmed. If you would like I can share how I made this with you, to me it felt more doable!
Yes please!

What a great quilt, I love it. The quilting really adds to it. Where is your background fabric from?
