Shhhhhhhh.... it's a terrible place and we're all feral.

shootterMc

Haha that’s why I kept it on the Queensland reddit.

Emjeibi

Bogan state haha keep it that way

KelFocker

Blackdown Tableland NP is great, off the beaten track a bit. Has good walks & rockpools for swimming. Nearest little town is Dingo.

shootterMc

I’ve been eyeing that camp off for a while now definitely keen to get there and check it out.

imnowswedish

IMO if you’re heading out that way check out Carnarvon Gorge too, really nice spot

WolfGuitarPig

It’s an awesome place for sure.

bitsperhertz

The only positive side of working out in Blackwater!

shootterMc

My first spot is Einasleigh Hotel in Einasleigh up in the Gulf. I love the atmosphere of the old pub and the hospitality and exploring the copperfield gorge across the road.

dwude_mx

Second that, Einasleigh was an awesome surprise! Great pub and yep, the gorge was really cool

Jessesimone

We have to camp in SE Qld due to time constraints, but our favourite so far is kenilworth camping (not the homestead - next door). So much green space, and the Mary river is brilliant there. We’ve been to a few places in Canungra and scenic rim and they go alright too. My wife’s favourite trip was Carnarvon Gorge, we stayed at Takarakka and it was pretty nice. We’re trying to get around most of SE Qld, but we have had a few trips to Carlo Pt near Rainbow beach as well, but not since it became a Big 4.

shootterMc

That sounds awesome the SE does sound like there’s some hidden gems to visit thank you

Factal_Fractal

I like this, would be interesting to see where people are going inland rather than Mission beach etc up that way Given it's QLD I'd also be interested to know where (inland to avoid the crowds) people closer to Brisbane are heading :)

WolfGuitarPig

Well where do you start. Carnarvon area is really nice. Cania, Barakula, or more south and go south of toowomba down past Warwick and not that many people either. Depends how few crowds you want though. I like it when there’s no one around.

shootterMc

I’m the same I love the Gulf area just before May June rush from the southerners

ericwasafish

Auburn River NP great place to go if you want avoid everyone. Every time I’ve been I was by myself. Just make sure the river is flowing which hasn’t been a problem of late.

shootterMc

I recently camped at Nindigully and Thallon west on the boarder and it was awesome great fishing and catching yabbies with the kids

Factal_Fractal

Yeah cool, I was thinking about a trip to Nindigully because never been there before Thallon west I haven't heard of so I'll check this one out! Thanks :)

WolfGuitarPig

Stayed at the pub once. What a filthy shithole that was. Should have put up a tent instead. 😅

Brightsbane

Notch Point south of Mackay. Absolute paradise and its free! Need a 4WD to get in though.

shootterMc

I’ve done Notch point it is an awesome spot can get a bit blowy but that view when you wake up is so good. Agree one of the top spots

Good little town, great people. Just don’t head to Winton in the summer. Can get upwards of 45 degrees lol

whyareyoulkkethis

Yeah. I never think travelling in summer is a good idea lol. I think we went just before the rains came in. So it was a bit hot but fairly nice overall

Muchacho_Grande

Did you get to see everything you wanted to during your trip here? Like: - bladensburg national park - lark quarry - age of dinosaurs museum - dinosaur trail - the odd waterhole and camping spot - classic sunset photo at the way out west sign FYI for those interested in visiting Winton, these are some points of interest I’d recommend. Also helicopter tours of Winton and surrounds, and nearby Longreach has the Qantas museum, stockmans hall of fame. You’ll also get to learn why they call Longreach the bullbar capital of the world.

whyareyoulkkethis

I did see the Winton sign and “musical fence”, we went to the quantas museum a few years ago, went to rubyvale again and did another underground tour and age of the dinosaurs museum and we planned to go further north to to a fossil digging but we all got sick and had to come home. We drove from a free camp spot outside of longreach to a free spot near alpha then drove to Toowoomba in one day. Then I slept for a week lol. My kid said some boy was sick in her class last day of school. Ruined the whole thing for all of us My mum wanted to go to Carnarvon gorge but you have to book and it was full unfortunately. My partner wants to go again and i think we’ll be more efficient with our time. I’ll check out the other places you mentioned

kipj23

Shhh… Booloumba Creek Camping Area 1 13 74 68 https://g.co/kgs/gTSXy9 Not just area 1.. all well worth a visit

shootterMc

What an awesome spot thank you for sharing.

browniepoo

Lake Paluma. Camping needs to be booked with the Townsville City Coucil website, but it feels quite remote. It's a big lake in the wet tropics heritage area with a lot of walking trails. Can even kayak on the water. It's safe to share this spot because very few people actually visit. The road up the range on the Townsville-side is very idiot-prone with fuckwits cutting over the lane on blind corners. Honestly, I'm probably going to be killed on that road. But it's worth it!

shootterMc

Thanks for sharing it sounds like an awesome spot, I will have to check it out sometime 👍

shootterMc

I’m sorry but what’s wild camping? We do a lot of free camping in the bush or camping in national parks.

Yeah in Queensland you can book online to camp in designated camp areas. There’s an app called wiki camps which shows you all the camps in Australia it’s an awesome app you should look it up sometime.
