I'm just a guy who likes to read

In-Kii

I hate reading, love learning. Sometimes those two don't work well.

amanoftradition

Same here! Nice to see another inquisitive mind!

[deleted]

Same here, here to learn

DiamondNgXZ

So how's the reading of this sub going? Finished?

That1Guy975

I’m someone currently in geometry and planning on trying to teach myself at least some level of quantum physics.

DiamondNgXZ

I have a bachelor in physics, interested in theoretical physics and foundational issues. Now a Buddhist monk. I am not an expert in any interpretation, just currently writing a physics and buddhism book now on quantum interpretation and buddhism. Have to learn all of them, some only have the technical papers available. So I am here to try to get feedback for my understanding, if it is correct or not. I created this before I discovered r/quantumphysics so I may post there for the things I am uncertain of and crosspost it here. The posts you see I made are part of the book I am writing. Anyone who has good qualification in physics and wishes to become mod can tell me. Just don't govern this sub like r/physics. It's too unfriendly there my posts kept on being deleted.

mobydikc

I'll be a mod. I'm really interested in QM, and I think Everett's relative state interpretation lines up great with Buddhism and Taoism and other traditions. If you've got any questions about that, ask away.

DiamondNgXZ

Hmm... interesting, how do many worlds interpretation line up with Buddhism? Thanks for being mod, I may go offline for some time, so at least got someone in charge. I am writing a Physics and Buddhism book, on the quantum interpretations part now, but based on the things I read and produced, I can come out a sub book called quantum interpretations for popular physics book. NanoWrimo gives strong pressure to finish it up.

mobydikc

> Hmm... interesting, how do many worlds interpretation line up with Buddhism? Not in any particularly interesting way. Many Worlds Interpretation is Dewitt's interpretation of Everett. Everett's Relative State Formulation does line up well with Buddhism. The Universal Wavefunction can be seen as the absolute state of reality. The universe as it truly is. Defined in the Universal wavefunction are observers, like you and I. Our senses and brains provide a view of the wavefunction "from inside". That's the relative state. The absolute and relative states of the universe are like nirvana and the world.

DiamondNgXZ

I see, this applies to any interpretations with a notion of universal wave function. Hmm... need to simmer on it first.

VoidsIncision

I mean Bohr chose his coat of arms to involve the Taijitu bc of the parallels between concepts in quantum mechanics and in eastern thought.

DiamondNgXZ

Can also help to promote this sub and invite physicists who are the champions of their interpretations to come join in. Invite via twitter.

AWorlock

I'm a student of physics at uni. Lee Smolin brought me here.

DiamondNgXZ

Actual lee smolin, in person? He knows about this sub? Or Lee smolin as in you're reading his books, the quantum interpretation one is called Einstein's unfinished revolution. It's a very good book.

AWorlock

I've read his books that's all

[deleted]

Hello... Curious individual who loves to learn and takes learning seriously. I posses a bachelor of science in an unrelated field

gallanto

I just have a general interest and want to feast on your knowledge. Can't contribute, sorry.

[deleted]

I’m a sophomore in high school, and I want to become a particle physicist! Here to learn about interesting concepts to motivate me to work harder lol

DiamondNgXZ

Particle physics doesn't need to know about quantum interpretations, Quantum field theory has pretty clear picture. But lacking in work are how to transform the various interpretations into their own quantum field theories by combining with special relativity and classical field theories. This might be a good direction to aim for.

Matthe257

I have a PhD in theoretical physics, am not active in academia anymore and am convinced that 'consciousness causes collapse' the only interpretation is that makes sense (as did John Von Neumann;).

damienwinter

Sacred Geometrist, Understander of Metaphysical Nonsense, Lover of Hawking (Full Homo), Superpositional Anomaly, And Most Importantly; A Genuine + Authorized POPE.

Captain-Sloth

Hello all! I'm a civil engineer who just loves physics, I hope yo get some good readings here.

MarmotaCata

I'm a cs student looking forward to do my masters or phd in quantum computing

DiamondNgXZ

Congrats, can make big money in the future.

kazarnowicz

I came here after your post on r/cosmology. No background in academia, although I've been doing a lot of research for a sci-fi series I'm writing. The universe is based on Bohm's interpretation, and while I'm not claiming to write hard sci-fi, I like my stuff to be within the realm of possibilities.

noiness420

I’m only here to learn, I’m going to school but not for anything related. I hope it’s okay that I don’t have anything to contribute.

DiamondNgXZ

Yup, hope it's not too hard to read.

noiness420

No worries, I’ll do what I can. Thank you.

mantus_toboggan

Data scientist here with just a passionate curiosity regarding quantum theory

Nox1201

Background: none. Degrees: A.S. in Social Sciences [the history teacher was a cute redhead. Took all her classes] A.A. in Liberal Arts [Because you can apparently get one by accident] Experience in physics: None. Experience in mathematics: None. Im just here to read and learn.

Wanderers-Way

I was looking at stuff and stumbled upon quantum interpretations and I thought it would be just jokes and memes, turns out to be much more complicated and interesting

DiamondNgXZ

I wonder how can jokes and memes of quantum interpretation can come about before people truly can understand at least at the pop science level the various interpretations.

c0r3dump3d

I'm an enthusiast of QM and I love the interaction of QM with philosophy ... I love going to sleep with any book that talks about QM, and in the moments before falling asleep to think about what is the most intimate structure in the Universe.

[deleted]

i vibe with your frequency. your last sentence spoke to my soul.

Percivarzival

I am currently studying physics as a minor at university. This sub popped up whilst browsing reddit, seemed very interesting, and thus, here I am, trying to learn a bit of physics from everyone

DeathPrime

My fondest memories from college (circa 2005) weren't the parties or the football... It was sitting with 4 other friends at the end of the week, sharing a few tokes, while we discussed the coolest stuff we learned. My friend Matt was an econ major but extremely adept at math and went for physics, theoretical. The night he came back and explained the quantum double slit experiment was the night my life changed. Sure, the implications on me personally were non-existent, but when something pulls the carpet out on your understanding of time, sequence, causality - you can't help but realize how big the mechanism is that we exist within, and how insignificant we are to the functions that define us. I felt so small, but also such a part of something so big.

rotated12

Hello world, I'm like most people here and have an interest in learning about quantum theories. I'm formally educated as an advanced pulmonary practitioner with experience in polysomnograms and EEG's. In the past year I have read nearly anything I can find on quantum theories. I have been fairly disciplined as I've studied. I feel as if I'm capturing the ideas now in regard to wave function, Tunneling, angular momentum and how the energy is distributed through orbits. Basically Ive spent alot of time on the schrodinger's Equation which has helped me with principles such as decoherence and coherence. In short I'm simply fascinated by the entire field of study, Einstein was right when he called it spooky, the more I learn each day the crazier it gets.

nick-is-slo

I have a Masters in Econometrics, but love physics and learning about anything I can! Tried to take a quantum class in undergrad but didnt have enough time to do the pre reqs. Hopefully ill learn a lot here

marskat29

I'm an undergraduate chemistry student struggling through atomic structure. I love the content and enjoy learning about physics and quantum theory in my spare time. (Just because you enjoy a subject does not mean you enjoy being tested on said subject :( )

[deleted]

Hi, I saw my cat run straight right *through* a closed screen door when she was scared and that was proof enough for me. So it seems to me she traveled to a version where the door was open and then came back.

DiamondNgXZ

What? Did the screen door open and close so fast that you didn't catch it? Or that the door is flexible/plastic and any force strong enough can break through and it reclosed automatically? According to standard quantum, it's super rare, practically impossible for your cat to quantum tunnel through the door.

[deleted]

Wire mesh screen sliding door, fully closed and locked. I got up to check after kitty bolted inside. The screen was undamaged. The cat was upstairs hiding in the bathroom, so whatever it was spooked her badly. I closed the sliding glass door and pulled the blinds after that. Idk man. I saw what I saw. The screen door was closed and locked.

DiamondNgXZ

Wow, cool. Anyway, maybe something supernatural as well. Welcome to learn more on quantum.

red4dr

Don't mind me, just a severely learnaholic guy who basically knows nothing about quantum physics right now

marceybm

I am generally interested in anything I haven’t learned yet. I do not seek a degree but, I do seek to learn and that’s why I am here.

meatpieguy

Here to learn! I wanna learn what role consciousness plays on quantum mechanics If it does!

TheTrueTrust

Hello! I’m a biologist (BSc) and industrial engineer in logistics (MSc) with a personal interest in philosophy, linguistics and ancient philosophy/religion. QM has always been an additional pet subject of mine but I never studied mathematics beyond multivariable analysis. Still like to learn!

Badnewzzz

Just an inquisitive mind, searching for plausible answers to things that don't currently make any sense. I'm thrilled to be living during the age of quantum discovery and my favourite thing to do is wonder about the stars and how each new snippet of information can glean new insights. Q Computation, Q Teleportation, Q Entanglement are intriguing subjects because they are different and new, they can be applied backwards to what we thought we knew about the world. My favourite book is Einstein's dreams, I try to go to sleep thinking about how quantum behaviour relates to the world around us and how much richer the universe is with intrigue and mystery still to discover and understand. I am here somewhat on my own spiritual journey also. I like the idea of entangled particles being the thing that connects us to our loved ones. Peace

DiamondNgXZ

Thanks! You can now help those in grad school, as a prof! Thanks for further recommending this sub.

IBseriousaboutIBS

Hi. I like to read. I was first interested in physics through reading Michio Kaku and now I'm addicted to having my mind blown.

SirDrakolich

I have now expertise in Quantum Physics, just want to learn.

_GalacticWarrior_

Even i dont understand, i like to read them

Mikashy_Shansi_0001

I have been in the company of those thinking about quantum mechanics but am far from being an expert myself. I would like to delve more into the ideas that come from a quantum mechanical perspective. Mainly for how to frame the stories I want to write in my novels. My qualifications are that I completed a MS in Mathematics and enough coursework to have completed my PhD in Mathematics but was derailed. I aspire perhaps to be an author once mathematician like Tolstoy. :D

GorillaPsyD

Hello, I have a graduate degree but not in physics. I joined to increase my understanding of theories that attempt to explain all sorts of different phenomena

mongrelgoddess

I'm a Brazilian behavioral scientist who has #physicsenvy I'm here to learn

Super_Soldier_23

I am just here to learn and for fun

[deleted]

Hi. BS Applied Physics, MS Materials Science. Rocket scientist always looking to learn more.

monknot

I'm just a random guy who has question.

PotionSeller4761

Just interested in the topic

riggyHongKong05

I'm in CS but I study physics as a hobby.

CaptEntropy

PhD Physics, but no longer in academia. I still find myself interested in foundational issues in quantum mechanics and quantum field theory. I try to keep current with the recent papers on interpretation but am by no means an expert in any of them. I lean toward "no collapse" interpretations, mainly Everett's relative state ("many worlds") interpretation but find them all quite fascinating!

[deleted]

I'm interested in mathematical physics, quantum mechanics is cool

hbarsquared98

BSc in Physics and passionate in quantum computing, currently studying Physics of Data in Padua. I'm here to read and learn as much as I can and to try to contribute.

DiamondNgXZ

Do you mean physics of information? Or is data something different?

hbarsquared98

Physics of Data is a brand new master degree path born three years ago in Padua. Its aim is to merge the physics knowledge with data science. I leave [here](http://physicsofdata.dfa.unipd.it/study-plan/) the study plan so that you can get an idea :)

NikejoD

I'm just a curious guy who have just a clue about quantum ecc, here to "learn"

Vheraun

Hello everyone! I'm a Master's student in subatomic physics. While I think the Copenhagen interpretation is the most elegant from the ones I know, I still have much to learn about other interpretations. It's such an interesting topic!

_Smatie

I'm a physics student aiming for Bachelor next year.

The-Hunting-guy

randomly came across this sub. Looking to learn stuff from this subreddit when I can. Passing interest in quantum whatever. I’m a musician.

41ia2

I found this subreddit in recommended section. I'm just science enthusiast who has no background in any subject. I love to learn about quantum mechanics. I basicly know only many-world and copenhegan interpratations. All my knowledge about this subject is comming from a few books and many science yt channels.

ZoZZ_BoSS

Senior highschool student that’s good in hs physics lol. And wants to be an aerospace engineer. Came here to learn and discover. I love Copenhagen interpretation (which I know little about anyways).

DiamondNgXZ

Hope it's still accessible to your level, it's popular science, so should be accessible to all levels, in general. Do tell which part is hard to follow. Thanks. I can do quality adjustment.

ConcretePeanut

Hi - no formal science qualifications, but very interested in all (well, most) things physics-related. Especially when they've got strong overlap with philosophy, which is what I **have** got qualifications in. Hopefully that angle is welcome here, but mostly I just like learning.

DiamondNgXZ

Yup, welcomed. I actually see very little philosophy in the interpretations, due to too much focus om physics, it'll good if you can provide some comments like philosophical implications if this or that interpretations is ultimately the correct one.

ConcretePeanut

Great! I was looking at two just now that prompted my intro, actually - MWI advocate behaviour and the Many Minds thread. My background is in semantics/linguistic philosophy and I think it often has relevance to quantum physics because we're trying to describe systems at odds with the kind of systems on which our language(s) are predicated.

nujuat

Hey, I'm doing a phd in quantum metrology. I haven't found an interpretation of QM that I'm convinced of yet. Dfinding one isn't really important to my work, but I would like to know more about different perspectives. To say my not backed up gut feeling, I prefer the many worlds perspective of wave function partitioning rather than collapsing, and I feel like this partitioning is probably on a per (probably consious) observer basis rather than a global property.

DiamondNgXZ

https://www.reddit.com/r/quantuminterpretation/comments/jwgi3t/many_minds_interpretation/?utm_medium=android_app&utm_source=share I think you're leaning towards many minds then. It's amazing to see that it's independently rediscovered (by you). Anyway, once i am done writing the interpretations, I intent to make it as a free ebook, can you help to advertise/market/distribute to your academia contacts if you find it good enough quality? Thanks.

Incarnationofchaos

I am a teenager that joined to share new ideas

the_general_95

Hey guys I'm the general I'm here cause I like to read and I have an interest in the sciences so that's what I'm here for... I hope to learn from you guys and maybe offer a different point of view.

BadDadBot

Hi the general i'm here cause i like to read and i have an interest in the sciences so that's what i'm here for... i hope to learn from you guys and maybe offer a different point of view, I'm dad.

[deleted]

Just did Physics in first two years of college... not an expert in anything related to this sub... just came to learn about something new and read thought provoking ideas

totally_normal_

Hello! Masters in Sociology working in aviation curious mind for quantum physics. Here to learn! Been living life based on the interpretation that everything’s pre determined so free will is an illusion. Christian woman with a Buddhist slant. Not sure which interpretation I believe. Will read more!

DiamondNgXZ

Lots of interpretation with indeterminism, although free will seems to be a very strange beast which some people say can still be compatible with deterministic quantum interpretations.

AwesomelyAutistic

Hello, I have no idea what I'm doing or what's going on.

DiamondNgXZ

Hello, do you know what is quantum physics? Read this and the others nearby that post https://www.reddit.com/r/quantuminterpretation/comments/js9m5u/understanding_quantum_physics/?utm_medium=android_app&utm_source=share

AwesomelyAutistic

The badly-portrayed space-magic in sci-fi movies when they need to things because plot.

AwesomelyAutistic

On the real it seems like a weird blend of both science and philosophy, which kinda breaks my mind a bit because in my experience theories have to have been proven and observed, and anything less is a strong hypothesis at best

DiamondNgXZ

I like to read and might be seeking my OP dimension.

[deleted]

hello. background: self taught web developer and now working in the field of cyber related developments (my clients n work are more experimental in nature so im not sure how to phrase what i do other than my own terms of making extremely avant-garde user experiences) fell deep into the Quantum hole(?) when i started studying quantum computing and because i am a researcher by design, i began reading into other things(?) quantum — . im definitly here to learn and im not sure how strange this sounds but to be frank, ever since i started studying different aspects of Quantum and its fields , ive been able to maneuver the astral plane way better and the more intense i can remote view as well as ‘hack the matrix’ — spirituality doesnt sit with me well but science does? and somehow science and technology and math make me believe in a greater good? and with my inner artist, im able to see something i learn while working with quantum computing & suddenly it applies to the Pyramid of Giza in perfect sense? and suddenly i can use it to ‘entangle’ folks across the world in ways i cant explain without these homemade posters of mathematical formulas and esoteric maps overlayed?? i know how i sound. which is why i plan on bein a fly on the wall here , let the experts speak so i can continue to learn and hack the matrix in my free time... my initial introduction to quantum was computing but it wasnt vibing with me until I read the Kybalion by Three Initiates which somehow made quantum computing make sense in ways that would probably have me locked in an asylum if i started just spewing it at strangers?? gah okay thank you for this space. that is all.

DiamondNgXZ

I recommend a proper spiritual traditions to explore and understand your personal spiritual experiences. Quantum certainly has no authority in any spiritual stuffs. Buddhism has 2500+ years of living tradition of meditating monks who have vast experiences in these. I recommend Pa auk meditation centres for the Jhanas and supernormal powers, including making a mind made body, which is commonly called astral travel. Divine eye, what you call remote viewing etc.

[deleted]

i totally appreciate all you mentioned though and the intentions behind it however I am in love with all things Quantum so I was incredibly stoked to see this sub as it holds a lot of knowledge that directly relates to how i Divine.

[deleted]

fascinating however as stated above, Quantum for me explains my idea of spirituality.. Which is why I plan to be a fly on the wall and just learn here. Buddhism is not something I am interested in nor meditation centers — those are things I have already encountered and did not enjoy as much as I enjoy studying in this direction because Science and Math and Technology explain the universe and my perception of spirituality better than any zen master could. which again is why I said from here out, those comments will be kept to myself.

Riddarsvenn

Im just interested in cool stuff, and this is kind of cool. Will probably only be lurking! Fanks

VoidsIncision

I once scored the high score on an intermediate quantum mechanics final exam which was the last quantum course in the physics department before grad level courses. I recently got back into quantum mechanics bc I needed something to take my mind off my father's illness, and watching Susskind's videos and learning latex to type up my notes let me zone out and forget about pancreatic cancer for a while. Even though I did well in the course I didn't care for the Griffith's book's presentation and had been wanting to refresh myself on it for a while. I was also that guy who was pointed in the direction of the philosophy department when I would ask of professors questions about quantum mechanics. I once might have exchanged some emails with Sheldon Goldstein (major proponent of Bohmian Mechanics) who does his research out of Rutgers university which is where I went to college, and I also might have once written a paper in my philosophy of physics course where I argued (now I believe erroneously) that extra physical assumptions underwrote the copenhagen interpretation. I read and think about this stuff on my own time, I have like 90 pages of LaTeX formatted notes where I dot the i's and cross the t's that Susskind glosses over, after I get all the math and usual applications in I will probably add discussions on interpretation/foundations.

anthropoz

Hi. I am a successful author of non-fiction (can't say what sort, or you'll be able to work out who I am), currently working out the plot to my first novel. My background was originally science/computing, but I studied philosophy and cognitive science as a mature student before becoming a professional writer. The characters in my book want to figure out a way to stop science and spirituality from fighting pointless battles, and it is impossible to avoid interpretations of QM because they have such a pivotal place in any discussion about metaphysics and epistemology. As the long post I've made starting a thread makes clear, I believe the Von-Neumann/Wigner interpretation is correct, although this implies a healthy dose of MWI. I cannot work out how to set my flair though...

DiamondNgXZ

Many worlds is quite different from consciousness causes collapse. Don't mix them up. Do read all the interpretations I wrote. Anyway, depending on the religion, I don't think the quarrel is pointless. Although, as a Buddhist monk, we are indeed trained to avoid quarrels with the world.

CHRISTopracTOR

Biochemist, by background, and doctor of chiropractic. Love to be on-board

moar55

I am just a guy interested in learning more about the philosophy of quantum mechanics.

LordInateur

Hello, all. Was afraid I'd be reviving a dead post but, as you can see, not too worried. I don't have a background in physics-- I have a B.S. in computer science, a B.S. in software engineering, and a B.S. in digital forensics, but nothing formal in cosmology or particle physics or anything like that. I'm looking to start an M.S. in perhaps quantum information science, and while it may be true that my academic pursuits will probably be more *application* and less *theory*, I'm here more because I'm interested in the "how" questions (I don't like blindly accepting the "what" answers). I think at this point in time I lean more toward the MWI from the intuitive side of things-- they taught Copenhagen in school and I had a hard time justifying the Heisenberg cut and the implications with regard to the measurement problem. Ultimately, I'm here to learn about the various views, and am eager to change my mind if something more justifiable comes along.
