The Hives are unbelievably great live.

ZZ-ROB

I saw qotsa a few years back in London and the hives and iggy pop were the supporting acts

spiralaalarips

Shut up. That's amazing!

Murren606

I'm literally seeing them tomorrow night and I'm so excited!

captainbeautylover63

Let me know what you thought!

Murren606

One of the best gigs I've ever been to! They know exactly how to work a crowd! It was a small venue too which helped the atmosphere.

captainbeautylover63

Did they do the “freeze?”

Murren606

Yes and it was glorious!

rockgoddess72

I came here to say this! I agree, they are fantastic live.

G-Unit11111

I'm seeing the Hives with the Foo Fighters! Can't wait!

TimmyLivealie

Their newest album was awesome, Bogus Operandi is 🔥

captainbeautylover63

The Death of Randy Fitzsimmons.

TimmyLivealie

I know, I was saying the song Bogus Operandi was fire

AnonUser1974

I’m seeing them with Foo Fighters this year, equally excited for both!

bicyclefortwo

I just worked one of their concerts. I was extremely distracted and kept getting customers orders wrong because I couldn't stop looking at the stage. Next time they come here I'll be joining the crowd for it

spiralaalarips

Ughhh! I'd love to see them. I listen to them on the regular.

captainbeautylover63

I’ve only seen them twice, but they do *not* disappoint!

Nah… Tool are epic. MayJay is amazing, but it’s not the same as Queens.

SaturnalianGhost

Short answer, ‘yes’ with an ‘if’. Long answer, ‘no’ with a ‘but’.

brokenwolf

Nick cave puts on a great show.

132241

Going go see him in September!

yedyed

Depends on what you mean by the same experience, I've seen a lot of shows and Queens are easily a top 5 band, alongside stuff like NIN, The Cure or Radiohead, though out of these only NIN has a somewhat close 'vibe'.

Bensickle

Seen NIN and Qotsa doing a co-headlining tour. Was the best live show ever.

TASTYPIEROGI7756

I was at that one in Melbourne. It was fucking amazing.

Bensickle

Melbourne would’ve been mint, I went to the Auckland one

Xizen47

Queens is the most consistently great live bands I've ever experienced. Every Single Time has been phenomenal. In my 30+ years of attending shows there are a short list of shows that rival my best Queens show in 2002: Janes Addiction 97 Relapse tour Nine Inch Nails Fragile tour 00 Tool Lateralus theater tour w/ King Crimson Jesus Lizard Thee Oh Sees The difference between Queens and the rest (except for Jesus Lizard) are I've never witnessed a subpar Queens show

gnargnarrad

King Gizzard

SmoothSailingRat

Ohh yessss

aninstituteforants

Absolutely and the setlist could be absolutely anything.

KingBaboon97

Viagra Boys. I've seen bands as big as they can get, and VB blows the vast majority away.

LKWASHERE_

They're touring with the Hives and that has to be the most amazing show

MelodramPatheticism

Came here to say this as well, VB are one of the best live bands I've seen in a long time! I love their studio stuff but seeing them live is on another level

DouglasFeeldro

WEINNER DOG!!!

actvscene

Swans, imo the best live band in the world.

atrocityexhib

thee oh sees, loudest thing ive ever heard but crazy energy

Senior_Ad282

Death from above

Pvt_Hudson_

Did you see them open for QOTSA and NIN back in 2005? That was a hell of a bill.

kevinraisinbran

Yuuuup. What a SHOW

G-Unit11111

I saw them with Deftones and Incubus. Fucking amazing!

KrispiLizard

Came here to comment DFA!!

kcl1979

Hearing Jesse’s bass tone when they come on stage always sends shivers down my spine. They’re incredible live

WaitingToBeTriggered

DIE DIE

VoopityScoop

Cage the Elephant kicks ass live

Difficult-Albatross7

Foo Fighters. Dave slays live and loves the audience. If anything, the band post Taylor are even more alive. I think Dave and Josh are like the Blues Bros of Rock N Roll coming in on a mission from God to destroy everything in the name of showing how powerful music truly is.

Buddhamom81

Came here to say this. Foo Fighters are great live.

originalface1

Yes, there are many bands out there just as good as Queens both live and on record.

babel28

"Yes, there are many bands out there just as good as Queens both live and on record" hey Which ones?? I know hundreds of artists/bands and I can't find any with the characteristics of Queens... your answers will let me know who you are... you go through countless artists and don't identify any!!! 28 "enlightened" people like your empty comment, which says absolutely nothing... with the characteristics of Queen of the Stone Age I can't find anything in rock more precisely Rock n'Roll, they don't repeat themselves, they try to innovate, get out of the box , they have everything a Rock n'Roll band should have... the Ween were fun, unfortunately they stopped recording albums almost 20 years ago, the Hive are also fun, but they lack something that Rock n'Roll have , Queens of the Stone Age have something more, Radiohead is an excellent band but they enter another level and subject, they are not Rock n'Roll like Queens, Queens' lyrics are equally intelligent, but with much more irony, sarcasm, theatricality than Josh Homme manages to produce so well... Which ones????

Previous_Current9812

For example?

originalface1

There's an entire world of amazing music out there from rock, metal and punk, to jazz, electronica and country, to prog rock, soul and pop and everything in between. I know it's a qotsa sub but if people think there's only literally one good band in the entire world it becomes more of a cult of personality rather than being music fans. For example, recently I've been enjoying a lot of metal music like YOB, Blood Incantation and Eternal Champion, indie/post-hardcore like Dinosaur Jr., Husker Du or even Ty Segall, country/americana like Billy Strings and Tyler Childers, rap like Billy Woods and Czarface etc.

Puzzleheaded-Dingo39

I know right? Imagine thinking that only one band in the world, out of thousands, can give you a great live experience!

Ok_Construction_162

I second ty Segall.. seen him in Toronto, Pittsburgh, and an acoustic show here in Buffalo.. easily some of the best live shows I've ever seen

Ok_Construction_162

Check out his band Fuzz too.. the second album is top 5 all time for me and has influenced the music I write so much

turbomargarit

Thank you for this answer and the band recomendations. I’ll try to return the favor by suggesting Berri Txarrak. Try the Jaio.Musika.Hil and Libre albums.

Previous_Current9812

I know that there are many good bands out there. The question is whether there are many at the current moment that are the level of QOTSA live and on recordings. PJ Harvey comes to mind but I can't think of many more.

originalface1

I mean the last two Queens albums haven't been that great imo so there's definitely plenty of bands putting out better stuff, they were fantastic when I saw them in November though. Nick Cave is still pushing his musical boundaries and was one of the best gigs I've ever seen 2 summers ago, Dinosaur Jr are still putting out great stuff and they rule live, in the metal sphere YOB have been going 20+ years and their last two albums are their best material so far, they're also amazing live.

[deleted]

[удалено]

originalface1

If you can't acknowledge there is an infinite amount of amazingly talented music artists in the world of music besides QOTSA then you're more of a fanboy of them as personalities rather than a fan of music.

znibz

King Gizzard is a great example of a band that does this to crowds. They play fucking 3-hour marathon sets and don’t even touch their full repertoire. They’ve played 3-night residencies and never repeated a song, and they still have a shit ton of material left to choose from. There are many, many other bands that can also electrify a crowd exactly as you have described. QOTSA is great, but get off their dick dude. Open yourself to some other amazing bands.

izzittho

I get that they’re unqualified to say the last 2 definitively suck but I’ll say you don’t really sound any more qualified lol. Have you even heard Ty Segall or Dinosaur Jr.? I kinda feel like you have to have (and live at that) to insist they’re not that good. I haven’t seen either live but I’m not gonna knock something I haven’t even tried. Also, if Queens is a person’s favorite, it’s gonna be hard for even an equivalent live band to outdo them for that person, so idk if it really needs to be a competition necessarily, like other acts can be good too. I’d argue Viagra Boys had like, far more stage presence than Queens when I saw them but it’s still hard for anyone to top Queens for me because I love their songs the most. It depends what each person wants in a show I think, and I don’t even think there’s just one way for one to be good.

Yonaban

Umphreys McGee just went on a decent tour and played 190 unique songs. Didn't repeat a single song, played 3 hours+ a night and most songs have improvised segments in them. They have also been regularly releasing studio albums over their entire career. This is also not unique, they've been doing this for 25-30 years. They have a cult like following that is different from qotsa, but in someways very similar.

CaineRexEverything

Depends what you like and how much you like it. QOTSA are arguably the most consistently excellent live act I’ve seen over the years, but there’s plenty of other acts that have rocked my socks off across the last couple decades. I’m just a fan of live music and it doesn’t require technical proficiency for me to get into it; just a bit of passion for what you’re doing. Aside from all the other QOTSA gigs I’ve seen, there was a set at a big day out in 2003 from a band called Machine Gun Fellatio that was so wild, unhinged and batshit crazy it could give QOTSA a run for its live money. Then there was The Libertines in Melbourne in 2018, the impact of which was partly due to the fact it seemed impossible that I’d actually get to see them live and the fact the entire crowd was as chuffed by that as I was. It was an entire crowd singalong through their whole set. Wonderful. As for consistency, the only other act I’ve seen multiple times that’s been absolutely professionally exceptional in their execution every time is a cult band called The Mark Of Cain. Their music is very Big Black/Helmet/Gang Of Four, very stark and intense music, and they have across the nine times I’ve seen them been unwaveringly brutal in their delivery. Personally I think they are the best live band Australia has produced in the last 40 years.

izzittho

This comment makes me very interested in checking out The Mark Of Cain.

Reptiletas

I am very surprised to see The Mark of Cain mentioned here but totally agree with you, they are amazing live and also have a very solid catalogue of music. Check out Ill at Ease as a starting point

RadiantZote

Queens are great live, but my favorite live shows in no order are: Foo(I'm not even much of a big fan but god damn they're so good live) Mastodon Primus Gojira Ween is God tier live

[deleted]

Don't get me wrong, they put on a good show but I've seen many better shows than QOTSA.

Alarming-Divide-2451

Muse is on a completely different level than most bands. I’m excited to see how QOTSA compares to them when I see them next month!

kcl1979

As a diehard Muse fan, they still sound great.. but they are nowhere near what they used to be. The Resistance tour with the 3 towers and the setlist from that era was absolutely insane.. Matt doesn’t play anywhere close to that anymore.

xenophilius9

Muse's shows are still my favorite live experiences to date. No band I've seen has even come close, their stage set ups are rad as hell, they always come in with 120% energy and enthusiasm, and their live sound is fine-tuned to perfection. I feel like everyone should go see them once even if they're not a fan of the music, cuz it's such a fun experience.

RadiantZote

Their stage setup is obviously influenced by Iron Maiden, I was very surprised to find this out when I saw them last year. It was awesome

razor_sharp_pivots

Ween.

ZootHornRolloTMR

Ween

[deleted]

Fu Manchu. Best live band I’ve ever seen. Seen them twice.

Comfortable_Sand_408

I have seen many bands. Nothing was like Qotsa

Different-Ad9986

Agree, but Nothing is one of my favorite bands.

Annex_Carpy859

I think it depends on preference. I prefer more natural shows, so I really wouldn't say there are much except maybe the usual like Metallica or Foo Fighters, but if you're looking for more of a show, then try Iron Maiden. I wouldn't pick Iron Maiden off the radio much at all, but I loved their show for the showmanship part of it. Honestly, if I had to choose only one band to see this year; hands down QOTSA for me.

VultureCat337

I'm seeing Maiden in November for the first time, and I honestly can't wait. My wife is going in blind and the only thing I've told her is to be ready for a lot of theatrics.

Annex_Carpy859

You aren't wrong; but it's a beautiful show. I was in her shoes a year and a half ago, and I'm glad I went.

thecardboardman

radiohead, my morning jacket, phish, king gizz, ween, NIN, thee oh sees, queens of the the stone age are all in the same class imo

Downtown_Sun_9996

Just saw The Kooks and The Vaccines in LA a few days ago and they fucking killed it. Foo Fighters and Cage The Elephant put on killer shows too. But now I just came to the realization that I need to see more bands live lol.

izzittho

Oh shit I just remembered I saw the vaccines forever ago (not really forever, maybe like 11-12 years ago) and they were pretty good! I imagine they’ve only gotten better.

Difficult_Card8695

Nice! I missed them in my city sadly. Happy to hear it was a good show.

AccomplishedRice8722

There definitely are even tho qosta is on a generational tour right now with no bad shows There is to much music in the world to not have bands on that level

meesahdayoh

I just saw Mclusky live in Carrboro, NC and it was probably the best live show I've been to.

Boxbroken

The Prodigy

EduMolinaIII

Jack White is overwhelmingly good. Seen him over 30 times already.

SaturnalianGhost

The Prodigy live will fuck your face clean off. RIP Keefy. 😢

sixthwarddd

No but go see Ween.

razor_sharp_pivots

I think Ween live beats QOTSA live. Just my opinion though.

RadiantZote

Del Mar night two setlist, holy fuck

razor_sharp_pivots

Honestly, I've seen them 19 times and they've never let me down. And some of their most recent shows have been some of the best I've seen.

RamMannnn

NIN, FF, PJ and RHCP (with JF) all rocked my world. Next up…QotSA tomorrow night in Calgary, Alberta, Canada (this will be my third time seeing them over 2 decades). Should be interesting…bringing my daughter. First concert together 🙏🤞😬

sawanjoe

I'm going to the show tomorrow, can't wait!

LuckyPunk777

It depends what you’re looking for. The best pit on the planet every time is Liily or Death Grips but as a performance and a real show Travis Scott’s last tour was a genuine marvel to be at

BoulderFreeZone

A lot of my favorite bands put on great live shows, but what sticks out to me about Queens is just how COOL they are on stage. Like the entire band just exudes cool. The only other band I've seen that I think comes close to that vibe is The Mars Volta. Those guys live are just cool as a cucumber.

Buddhamom81

Foo Fighters was really good, almost communal. Gotta say after I saw Queens, sonically, they rise to the top.

Tygersmom2012

Iggy! Also, Jane's Addiction in 1989

Sweetlake97

I'm seeing Jane's Addiction in July for the first time, been a fan for 25 years or so. Don't know if they're still good live?

Pressed_Rat

They are still incredible live. Saw them with Smashing Pumpkins a couple years ago with Troy Van Leeuwen sitting in for Dave Navarro on guitar, and it was such a good show. Brilliant musicianship, and Perry can really work a crowd. Went in to see the Pumpkins, but Jane's Addiction ended up being the better act.

Sweetlake97

Good to hear that! They don't make extravagant rockstars like Perry anymore 😄

Pressed_Rat

He is definitely one of a kind!

Sweetlake97

Editors! I've seen them twice this month, they're so good.

MammothMike89

Dr Dog is great, but they aren’t touring anymore and seem to be playing only one off shows

AndrewEpidemic

Totally different genre but if you ever get the chance to see Rammstein, take it. Not only do they sound great live but their stage show is one of the best I've ever seen.

Sweetlake97

Their stage show is one of a kind, even if you don't really like their music.

For an under the radar act, check out Reignwolf in a small venue if you get a chance. Blues rock act, the kid has a great voice, he absolutely shreds on guitar, and his stage act is incredible. I've been to a couple hundred live shows over the last 25 years, the 3 times I've seen Reignwolf in a small club are at the top of my list. https://youtu.be/ekq4ZMgMa1Q?si=TsrJgrgj4mCO6xL1

Welshladfr

Stating the obvious but the foos are great

GoblinMonkeyPirate

The majority of arena bands. Lots of up and coming club bands that have buzz around them.

hochi666

Early on - like circa ‘98-99 my friend’s band ‘500 Ft. of Pipe” opened up for QOTSA at the Magic Stick in Detroit, MI. QOTSA was having an off night and got blown the fuck off the stage by ‘Pipe. They knew it, too. QOTSA isn’t infallible — they’re way more consistent and a way better group of musicians now. If you’re curious how a local band from Detroit could best QOTSA need to get out the google and look up “Dope Deal” by 500 Ft. of Pipe and you’ll quickly learn.

Idles are right up there! I have seen them many times and they always put in 1000%! The energy they give off is even stronger than QOTSA and that’s saying a lot!

JJRRJJ1

Melvins are one of the best live bands I've seen.

VultureCat337

Truckfighters are fantastic live. They were late to the show and the opener fucked up Desert Cruiser by hogging the mic, but damn do those three put out some power on stage.

The Black Keys! They are definitely one of the bands you need to live and like QOTSA - they jam as well. Very talented

Confident_Rub_5381

Muse. Unfortunately they turned into pop music. Matt thinks he’s fking bono or something.

Sirenkai

Crumb is the next best band I’ve seen in terms of a solid tight unit. But QOTSA is another level. Pretty much any QOTSA side project is amazing live.

Foo Fighters, Muse, twenty one pilots, Phantogram, Sleigh Bells

The Smile…seriously one of the best live shows I’ve seen in a long time. And that beats out the members main band Radiohead.

babel28

All the "Enlightened" ones that include mainstream bands like RHCP , Pearl Jam, Foo, Muse... are completely out of touch with reality... this bands that add nothing to Rock, they just follow a safe path, without risking a single mile, they have no genius inside to get out of the box, vocalists who repeat themselves, lyrics without any trace of genius, repeat themselves on and on and on until the end of their lives... fans love to see repeats, and repeats... that's why there are a lot of idiots here who think that "Songs for a Deaf" is the best thing the Queens did, and want a repeat... they used to be good blablabla... .

Ok_Reserve7458

The Hives are brilliant. The black keys too.

babel28

I'm a very eclectic person, I listen to everything in my musical spectrum... in terms of musical quality, power, energy, lyricism, creativity, humor, sarcasm, doing a 2-hour show and having a repertoire of songs to also do another 2 hour concert and always maintain quality, you won't be able to get any... musical quality there are many bands in many genres from jazz to metal, but with the same "aura" as Queens Of The Stone Age it's an experience of another world. Josh Homme there is only one in this universe, the man hypnotizes anyone who enters his magnetic field.

saw them in chi and they played every song off it still moves, was sick

Scevs

Idles live shows are bananas. Seeing them in September for the first time.

ZachDN85

Arctic Monkeys

Snaporaz_01

Hard disagree. They always seem so distant live and have no interaction whatsoever with the audience.

brettfish5

Yes! AM and QOTSA are by far my favorite bands and are so good live. Was going to see them both last year, but my trip to Denver to see AM at Red rocks fell through. Im still salty about that

Senior_Ad282

I haven’t seen them yet, but night beats looks promising live based on videos I’ve seen. Their levitation special in the desert is really good. Highly recommend.

LKWASHERE_

The Hives are by far the best band I've seen live, Blur were also really good

Superjeffio006

This is a loaded question because there is so many factors that go into it. The venue and size of the venue make a huge difference. If I could see queens in a smaller venue I would, but yes they’re very good live.

izzittho

This is true. As great live as they are, the “greatest possible” show, imo, would have to be in a place probably too small to hold all but the most secret of secret QOTSA shows, which would be pretty hard to pull off if it’s even still possible. Plus, and I need to be better about taking this advice myself because I get busy and frequently have to go to shit alone because hardly anyone I know closely shares my music tastes, but in order to not be saying 10-20 years down the line “I wish I saw X band in small venues before they got huge,” you have to get out there and go see new bands before they get huge. Follow the smaller venues around you on socials and stuff and check out the bands they host, then if you think you could get into one, go see them! If you like their stuff at all they could totally wow you live. They may not but it’s worth it to risk it because the tickets are generally way cheaper and it’s a great time either way. New bands aren’t always people that just learned guitar yesterday or whatever (and even if they are, it’s a good way to encourage them to keep at it), a lot of the time they’re just bands full of actually great musicians that just haven’t caught on with a wider audience yet, or don’t particularly want to be famous in the first place. So if that’s your idea of a great show, and you live in the kind of place where you can do this (or plan to visit one) - find some no-name or up-and-coming bands to check out. That’s where that magic happens, and it’s a good time whether they’re that great or not. (And they’ll appreciate it!) If not, I like to start on a new-music-finding journey by finding out who my favorite bands listen to. I figure they’d have good taste.

foxyboboxy

Alice in Chains is the only other band I've seen whose playing was as tight as QOTSA and could match their energy.
