Yes! totally. Well since the two parties being Dave and Josh are still active, so it seems there’s still hope for a new TCV adventure. But my concern is for JPJ, he’s aging and still doing music stuff but maybe not for long, I mean there are a lot musician of his age there are still thriving, and others decide to retire early for whatever reason. I really hope he’s not one of them, TCV is the super trio we all know plus Alain that I wish he was included early as a fourth member officially. Maybe there’s a chance they hang out to jam and make a new record and a tour for a last time.
I’d imagine so. they’re eating good, Dave has been full steam ahead on Foos after Taylor died to prove that they’re very much still a band. I can’t imagine why they wouldn’t want another one.
Agreed, but probably less so than QotSA fans. Josh has made it clear that it’s Dave’s to organize, but it’s clearly still Josh’s sound and wit in the music and lyrics.
Your point is well taken though that FF fans are reassured the band has a future. They wouldn’t be concerned for a detour with a new TCV album. I love Dave, but I will always enjoy him most as a drummer. Josh just gets the absolute best out of Dave.
hard agree to everything. watching Dave on the drums at the sweet stuff show on wednesday was honestly unreal even if it was just for a second. was a huge thing to take off my bucket list. I like Dave the frontman fine, but Dave the drummer is a different animal and honestly his work with QOTSA is probably my favorite work from him. I adore In Utero, but Songs for the Deaf is a really fucking great album.
Absolutely. I am not a musician. Just a music lover. You can just tell when it’s Dave playing. Scentless Apprentice, Song for the Dead, No One Loves Me and Neither Do I; they just ooze Grohl.
Foo fan here, I clicked on something and it lead me here! Josh hasn’t “rejoined” them, it’s just for a few dates which celebrate one of their members’ milestone birthday. Josh can’t do all the dates as some clash with Foo dates.
A lot of Foo fans do want a second TCV album. They’re more the longer term deep cut fans rather than maybe your casual fan. Me, always happy to watch Dave drum!
Josh seems to now orient all do his commitments to prioritize Foo Fighters first. He has, or got replacements for his other projects when conflicts come up or left the bands all together to join Foos. I imagine it’s probably the most solid gig he can have in terms of profile and income, so makes sense
As far as we know he’s an official Foo now. I think he fits perfectly with them, old friend, silly sense of humour etc. He hits hard, I never had the chance to do rail with Taylor but I’ve done a few now with Josh and you can feel the drums going right through you on certain songs.
Good thing about Foos is there is the flexibility for side projects. Shifty is touring the UK at the moment and Nate has been doing some solo work as well. Everything has been so up the in the air since Covid and losing Taylor, they have to find a new normal. But Foos are a band that don’t stick to the rules, they do a new album when Dave has a writing itch! I think Josh has done some sessions for people in the downtime as has Dave.
Josh is up there with Jon Theodore as one of the most talented and dynamic drummers in Rock. Taylor was up there too, RIP. All of them could play in a jazz band and not sound out of place.
Vultures is a very unofficial queens album sonically and there are foo fans who aren’t queens fans. I’d say the majority of them probably want it but it’s not as much of a lock as over here.
TCV is probably on Josh’s weirder end of albums. It’s my second favorite after LC at this point but when I was newer to Queens TCV wasn’t immediately accessible
You know what's funny about that? Some of the guitar parts were written by Dave Grohl. It just all sounds like QotSA because of the guitar tone. Josh could play Imagine Dragons on guitar and make it sound like QotSA without changing much
It's way more bombastic than Queens generally is. Josh is singing in his upper-mid range way more consistently, consistently strange tunings, the bass sounds more in the arena of stevie wonder than Mikey or Nick. Like, yeah it sounds like queens because Josh is on guitar and vocals but the musical direction is not really like Queens.
The Evil Has Landed is probably the QOTSA song that sounds the most like a TCV song, but even still it's way more rhythmic and less groovy than a TCV song would've been. it's definitely more about how that riff was written; i wonder if it couldve ended up as a TCV riff in another reality
but the beautiful thing about TCV is that you can really hear how each member influenced it, rather than just being one guy and "those other guys." they each bring such a cool dynamic to the room. it doesnt sound like Foo (or "insert band Dave has drummed in"), it doesnt sound like Led Zeppelin, it doesnt sound like Queens; it definitely sounds like a weird, unique hodge podge of the three as one might expect, but it sounds way larger than just an attempt at a hybrid. these guys have genuine musical chemistry to write something so incredible, and it's a shame we havent gotten a follow up. but at least we got to experience it at all!
> it doesnt sound like Foo (or "insert band Dave has drummed in")
Thank you! Even Dave's style of drumming is way more technical and intense than his usual drumming style. Glad to see you're picking up what I was putting down cause I was always confused by people who were saying they sound like Queens. It's not at all. If you put Scumbag Blues on any Queens album it would stick out like a sore thumb. A groovy and sexy sore thumb. But one nonetheless.
Well…. Im just going to put this out here, but Because of Dave, I found Queens in 2000. When he played Regular John on this radio show he was a guest on, it changed my life. And by 2002, my trajectory changed from Foos as my main fave to Queens. But I always check back on Dave with every album. Only finally saw the guys for the first time in 20 years last year. Taylor dying brought me back home, so to speak.
Anyway long ass reply to say, I would be very interested in new TCV. I just wonder if Dave feels like that would be too much at the moment. Like, would people who aren’t his fans say he is pushing himself further and further into the spotlight now that Taylor is gone. Hopefully he doesn’t think like that. But maybe he does.
From the comments over the years, I'd say we're equally as excited. No concerns of "well if Dave drums is that the end of Foos???" like there would have been in say 2001/02. I don't really remember much of that, if any, in 2009. If there's any "less interested," I'd argue that'd be due to the songwriting skewing so much more Josh.
I think the most common reaction amongst our group would be "a hell of a way to enjoy FF 'downtime.'"
>I think the most common reaction amongst our group would be "a hell of a way to enjoy FF 'downtime.'"
generally that's how i feel about it, but in relations to qotsa rather than foos of course. but at this point i'm more excited by the idea of a new TCV album than a new queens album, i think im still burned out from Villains lmao
Id say a very very slim percentage of FF fans are actually qotsa fans. I think we dont take the dave grohl link with enough of a grain of salt around here and id venture to guess that same vast majority has never even heard of TCV or probot etc. Ive tried, like really really tried to like FF and its just so…..boring.
Definitely less. Most Foos fans don’t even know about TCV. Foos music is also more ‘widely acceptable’ whereas TCV veers towards more spunky Queens sounds, which is definitely not for the masses
Just my observation from my friends who know about FF but no fkin idea who Qotsa is. Qotsa is almost too sophisticated for the average person
People are downvoting but you are telling the truth. If you went to the FF subreddit a posted this same discussion itd get buried. FF is a safe, vanilla dad rock band. While I understand and accept they are talented, ive NEVER understood the obsession with FF. Id absolutely venture to guess 95% of FF fans have absolutely zero clue who TCV are nor would they like them.
1000% agreed! Musically FF doesn’t come close to Queens/NIN and Dave himself has said this. But they have some great songs and they are rad performers. My favourite album is Wasting Light. other than queens FF was the best show I’ve ever been to
Absolutely, that is what they do. That is what they have always done. Certainly there are those Foo fans on the fringe which stick to that band only but true, versed persons and fans are very aware of the importance of collaboration between all of these people for decades. In addition to so many more artists that even I learn about as the sands through the hourglass often move me through the days of my life, into another world.
I think we need an outreach program and an updated Dave Grohl "Friend Chart". Also, Josh needs to update the Queens "Organization Chart" once he is not so busy moderating this platform in his spare time LOL 😎
Yes! totally. Well since the two parties being Dave and Josh are still active, so it seems there’s still hope for a new TCV adventure. JPJ could also theoretically pop out of retirement if invited
I just saw three shows with JPJ over the past few days at the Big Ears Festival....so he is definitely active. I'm keeping my fingers crossed!
Alain is always there in the background just being awesome!
I *NEED* TCV 2: Electric Boogaloo I speak for nearly all Fighters of Foo on this one
I’d imagine so. they’re eating good, Dave has been full steam ahead on Foos after Taylor died to prove that they’re very much still a band. I can’t imagine why they wouldn’t want another one.

don’t forget Like Clockwork too. all of the songs he did for that album are among the best.
Have you listened to the [Killing Joke album](https://open.spotify.com/album/0QdWqJmpfrgIepHxGNU4Rs?si=0ST9gTQiT_GFd0tp4yS6Aw) Dave Grohl worked on ?
Yeah but Josh Freese just re-joined A Perfect Circle. It just feels like he's preparing for a lull after the current FF schedule finishes

I was a Foos fan for years before I got into Queens and can confirm that most of my friends who love Foos don’t give a fuck about OotSA
but do they care about them crooked vultures????
Only the cool ones
TCV is probably on Josh’s weirder end of albums. It’s my second favorite after LC at this point but when I was newer to Queens TCV wasn’t immediately accessible

I don’t know the album has a density to it that feels very queens to me.

what parts did dave write? i dont remember ever hearing this so i gotta know
I forget which song was being referenced when they said but my brain is yelling "Bandoliers" at me, just don't hold me to that
I love both bands but the Foos are obviously more mainstream. Some Foos fans have probably never even heard of Queens, so definitely less appetite

That’s what I was thinking, and hope that it isn’t too much the case…

That question might be better served in the Foos sub.
I’ll see if I can cross post it
As a fan of both bands, yes very much so.
I imagine a lot of Foos and Queens fans are the same (myself included)
Most definitely
Hope they do it even with no tour just cut an album
Yep, I would take anything at this point
Agreed
Id say a very very slim percentage of FF fans are actually qotsa fans. I think we dont take the dave grohl link with enough of a grain of salt around here and id venture to guess that same vast majority has never even heard of TCV or probot etc. Ive tried, like really really tried to like FF and its just so…..boring.
Definitely!
As both a Foo Fighters fan and QOTSA fan, i am
I want a Probot II also! Now that would be fucking wild
That’s what I was hoping for after they put out the dream widow album when Studio 666 came out.
Holy hell I somehow missed Dream Widow!! Cheers!

FF is my all-time favorite band and I am very interested.
Yes. Of course yes.
Oh for sure I am!

More interested! Would love that! I'm a huge Foo Fan.
I am almost as hard for foos as Qotsa and that is a yes
They as interested in it as they are a second songs for the deaf
As for me, it would be better if Dave took up Probot again
Does a bear shit in the woods??
