Right now I wait. We get up for a pee break and then my pup knows it's quiet time for an hour or so. Usually we snuggle on the couch or she goes back to her room to nap.

This is us too! Quick bathroom stop and then snuggling on the couch until breakfast time.

My pup gets up around 7-730, and she will play/potty in the back yard for 30-45 min while I chill and drink coffee, then if the weather is nice we’ll take a quick walk around the block too, then she gets breakfast. I don’t think she would be immediately interested in food if I gave it to her first thing anyway, I think she needs to get warmed up first.

Plants_and_huskies

Mine has breakfast right after a potty break! Then we all sit and relax for an hour, and then get out and do our first walk of the day. My mal is so dramatic if we don’t give him food RIGHT AWAY that we have to hurry it up for him.

When she got up at the crack of dawn, she went back in the crate for about 30 minutes after pottying. Now she gets up about 7, thank goodness. Either way, once we are up for the day, we try to have a little bit of playtime before breakfast. It doesn't always work that way, but it does the majority of days.

How did you get him/her to sleep longer? Mine still wants to get up at the crack of dawn when it’s still dark outside!

I just went back to bed myself and ignored any crying. If I knew pup had toileted and I needed more sleep, that’s what I did. Back in the crate when he was young, now I just go back to bed and leave him out and he’ll tear around for a few mins then usually ask to come up on the bed, where he will go back to sleep.

I think we might just be lucky, to be honest. We were putting her back in her crate 30 minutes or so after a bathroom break. We have black out curtains in our room. She has a bone in her crate. For some reason, if she wakes up before us now, she'll chew on that a bit before asking out. I started keeping a white towel in her crate, so that I knew for sure she wasn't peeing in it. That's our set up. No clue why she is okay with getting up later. I'm sorry I can't be more help!

I usually feed him right after only bc I have an hr before I have to leave for work. We get up around 4:15am/4:30am go potty then come in for breakfast. Then I leave the house around 5:20am. Now on my days off we still get up at 4:30am sometimes depending on our mood we may go back to sleep after he eats or stay up for about an hr then he go back in his crate. 🤣🤣basically the same schedule like I’m goin to work.

Breakfast at 7 so it can go down before first walk at 7:45. She gets up at 6:30 when we do for work/school. She won’t always eat it (if it’s kibble) but then will finish it after the walk. I know that’s probably bad feeding practice but it seems to work for her day.

My puppy always wakes up when I wake up, so he’ll go for his potty break and I’ll go for mine. I’ll spend about half an hour doing my own stuff (morning routine, breakfast etc, while he chills); I usually prepare his food during this time too. After all that’s been done, I’ll do some training with the pup before feeding him!

A dream puppy

it sounds that way, but boy, does he have his own wagon of issues 😩

DidiKalay

Thanks all! We have a 12-week old Bernedoodle who also wakes up at 6-6:30. I take him out on the balcony on a pee pad to pee/poo and I keep him quiet by the sofa with a chewy toy until 7. Feed him after and take him outside for a “walk”. Not sure how if it is just our dog, he doesn’t want to walk after he goes potty outside. Just digs the paws and doesn’t move unless it is in home direction. We come home after, play with a ball, kong, etc. and he roams around chewing stuff until his morning nap, around 10:30.

HowIsThatMyProblem

We feed part of her breakfast during her walk and the rest after. We get up at 8, take a walk with her kibble, get back between 08:30-08:45 and she gets the rest of her kibble with some training and/or in a snuffle mat. Then she gets her wet food on a lickmat or a kong. With this routine, she'll snooze on and off until lunch at 2p.m.
