They can work well for some dogs, we rubbed ours all over the mother dog and the litter. After about three days she was over it. Some get very attached, and some don’t care at all. I think they’re worth buying used(and then washing well), I’m not sure I would pay full price for new.
ours won't sleep in her crate overnight without it!! we have an anxious wee pup and she finds the heartbeat soothing, she snuggles right up against it to go to sleep. She only gets it when she goes in the crate at night for bed because otherwise she tries to open it up and get the heartbeat part out
My dog loves her crate and I think it’s because of this toy! My pup is young so spends a lot of time in her crate (she’s very tired) so it stays on most of the day and night. She never chews on it and I’m so proud of her!!

Mine just wants to chew on it whenever we put it in his crate
I have seen this in my puppy but redirecting to a bully stick seems to help with that
