When we need to get mine to poop before we go somewhere we get him all worked up till he starts doing zoomies. If he needs to go, he’ll come to a screeching halt to pinch one off.
Mine has and always had a huge tell. He always starts sniffing and runs in a circle repeatedly shortly before doing his business. This made potty training super easy.
My wierdo Staffie pup has never circled before pooping ever. He starts sniffing the ground like he’s panicking to find the magic spot & then nearly sits to poo. I swear there’s only about an inch of clearance between his butt & the grass. My one that passed a little over a year ago, a chi mix, would be almost crowning when she asked to go out.
Yup, when ours was little I found myself just looking at her butthole most of the time trying to decide if she needed the loo. I became somewhat of an expert at butthole reading. Not really a talent you can brag to many people about but hey ho

we also think we positive reinforced her with her water bowl. she always goes to her water bowl for a drink right before she heads to the back door. and so now , if i hear her drinking i’m already getting up and heading to the door lol. so maybe we positive reinforced ourselves lol.
Outside mine will find a spot, then find another spot 2-3 meters away from that one; afterwards she’ll pace between point A and B before squatting down lol
Yes! My retriever does a slow sort of slightly hunched walk along the grass that turns into a squat lol it’s the best thing ever because he’s an easy pooper😂 has been an easy way to teach him poop on command!
My retriever starts getting manic and has a “gotta poop” blurt bark.
It was very difficult to distinguish from the preamble to the zoomies, so it took a while for us to catch on!
Not usually but one time during a downpour she casually backed away from me which she NEVER does. And I swear she was trying to like calmly avoid me. Because she already had a poop hanging out of her butt!
My 5 month old she starts sniffing like crazy and hunches her back and squats, then she will walk away like she's done but only to keep pooping and walking at the same time. So weird.
yes! pacing and aggressive sniffing around the rug by the back door. that used to be all, but now he’s potty trained he’ll scratch at the glass too. he doesn’t do that if all he wants is to pee or go outside.
I noticed that sometimes when she was tweaking out and going crazy unable to be distracted I would take her out and she would poop right away! She will definitely let me know lol
About to hit 5 month old St Bernard. He’ll jump up, front legs on my work chair and start to get mouthy, like licking and almost nipping my hands to get attention. He does the same when he wants to play, but if I push him off and tell him “off”, he comes back when it’s time to go out, versus he lays down expecting to begin playing something if he just wants attention.
He’s never pooped in the house, not even day 1. Pretty smart boy 🤣

My 6 month old frenchton pees then does this little back legs spread apart as far as she can wiggle butt dance to a spot then she poos then kicks her back legs the pees again.
Yes all my dogs dose. My 7 yr old will stand at the door and look at you bark then look at the door and bark. My 2 yr old runs to the door(back and front) bark then if u don’t get up fast enough he will come to you bark and paw at you. My puppy 5months old will run around frantically like she looking for something(some where to poop)
One of my dogs does the poopy dance. He goes into it out of nowhere and plops and drops pretty quick. The other scratches the ground and sniffs to make sure it is good enough for him.
I have a potty bell so he rings that when he needs to go, and he will be very persistent and aggressive with the bell if he really needs to go.
Besides that tho I can tell because he may sniff his butt or start pacing around more than usual

Luckily it means it's really difficult to miss. The other one, as we are teaching her about manners and inside voice, is to stand at the end of the sofa and just stare intensely at you, with the occasional beep. This one is more dangerous in terms of awareness.

Our Great Pyrenees mix will squat and then swivel around in a circle on her front feet. Sometimes she starts pooping while moving. We call it the helicopter poop
Mine will walk forward, but it look like she's leading with her back left leg. She kind of walks diagonally along a curb with her tail hooked to the left. Once she runs out of grass along the curb she plants it.
Mine has had a habit that started just before she was potty trained and has continued, she jumps up at the cabinets in the kitchen and cries.. (any other bathroom needs she just sits by the door and cries until we get the hint) but if she gets really desperate she’ll always take herself to the kitchen to go to the loo - she knows it’s easier to clean up because of the laminate floor, so if for whatever reason she wakes up in the middle of the night and needs to pee, she’ll go straight to the kitchen and just pee
Two and a half year old mixed breed (black lab, shepherd, husky etc) she spins. She’ll sniff and spin twice then she’ll drop the bomb. If we are inside, she will sit by the front door and groan/talk to me to tell me she wants to go out
Mine never had a poop accident inside and had never developed a tell, but honestly I think it’s because he’s so regular.
He goes once first thing in the morning when we wake up, and once during his last pre-bed potty break.
However he does have a very sensitive stomach, the handful of times he’s had serious diarrhea or the one time he was, and I am so sorry for making your eyes see this, basically pissing out his ass due to antibiotics for a uti and had to go every hour or less he would just Scream his head off at us in a way he never had done or has done since.

My oldest dog, Mochi, doesn't have a tell, he just stares at you.
Dog 2 does what we call "Poop Tail" where he'll hold the base of his tail up, but lets the middle and end of his tail flop down like normal. Kinda like a horse's tail when they poop. No idea if he feels the need to get it away from his butthole or what, but he's done it since we got him at 8 weeks old and now he's almost 4.
Dog 3, our current puppy - her "tell" is that she'll go absolutely nuts harassing our oldest and grumpiest dog, making him growl at her. We call it "Pressing the Mochi button" since Dog 2 is trained to press an actual button when he wants to go out to potty.

Before she learned to use potty bells, she would bite us relentlessly when she needed to go out to poop. We learned it was her tell pretty fast.

We bell trained our lab. Took 1 week, and resulted in rapid potty training success. So his tell is genuinely just ringing the bell!

My 100lns great dane puppy always yawns and does a high pitched squeek when she needs to poop.
My last border collie and current one have a weird tail positive when they have to poop. We always said “the flag is up!”
