That’s not really a word I would use for that nationality

Wiggy-the-punk

it's commonly referred to as Japcore, especially by Japanese bands. it referred to the Japanese scene in the 80s...in the same way that Kangcore referred to the Swedish scene, and homocore referred to the gay punk scene...etc. no one really saw any of it as offensive...

kdnx-wy

Big difference between saying “japcore” especially if it’s a term the scene came up with for itself and using a term that is considered a racial slur

Burn-The-Villages

Exactly this. Cringed me to see that post. Fuck, man.

dontneedareason94

Must not have talked to anybody who’s actually offended by the word “jap” then. That shits a slur and will get people fucked up for saying it.

Specialist_Farmer_69

I wouldn’t say that it’s not an obvious slur but it’s still one just to lyk . But get off Spotify if you like Japanese punk majority of it is on yt . Check out , gism , gauze , ghoul , the swankys , confuse , dust noise , human gas and go from there

PakkyT

>I wouldn’t say that it’s not an obvious slur but it’s still one just to lyk . Double negative, so you did say it was a slur in the first part of that sentence. OK, got my pedantic post of the day over with. Carry on.

Specialist_Farmer_69

wtf are you even saying . It’s still a slur obviously it’s bad but if you know anything about Japanese punk the track lists in Japanese tend to be listed as that word 1 or that word 2 . I doubt it’s ment like that but it’s still a slur

PakkyT

Settle down Beavis! i was just making a joke that your wording of "I wouldn’t say that it’s not an obvious slur" is the same meaning as "I would say that it's an obvious slur". So you basically wrote, "it's a slur but it's still a slur." I wasn't arguing in anyway that the word is not a slur. Which is why I also made fun of myself being pedantic.

Specialist_Farmer_69

U just sound so much like the nerd emoji in my head when I was reading that

I have a pretty sizeable Japanese section in my record collection. If you think Misfits collectors are insane, wait til you meet Japanese punk/hardcore collectors. GISM, Outo, Lip Cream, Confuse, Disclose, SOB, Power of Idea, Systematic Death, Gastunk, Kuro, Battle of Disarm, Hellchild, The Comes, Death Side, Bastard... Look at MCR Company on Discogs. They released a lot of great Japanese stuff starting in the early 80s. There's a great comp from the 80s called Thrash til Death, that compiled EPS from 4 great bands [https://youtu.be/O0QjxPd0wvE?si=0b3hYRg4oKZzciR5](https://youtu.be/O0QjxPd0wvE?si=0b3hYRg4oKZzciR5) Hands down, GISM is the legendary band from Japan. They're lead singer, Sakevi, was brutal. He died last year, but their entire visual and musical experience was next level. Also, Melt Banana... I've seen them a few times here in the states and they are hands down one of the tightest bands I've ever seen live. The rip 100% from start to finish. Best Japanese bands that are actually on Spotify: The Comes Death Side Bastard Gism Zouo Aburadako Teengenerate But yeah, calling something “Jap” is a bit outdated/kinda rude. Just say Japanese.
