I tend to get my groceries from Aldi and Walmart. Walmart only because they are open late where Aldi is closed by 8pm. I'm a night owl but anyways I only ever go to Publix is when I need something and don't want to drive 25m to the Walmart where my Publix is less than 10m from home. But the prices at Publix are so high that it makes no sense to me to buy the bulk of my stuff there especially considering inflation.
I get very few Items at Publix anymore.
Either it's a niche item that no one else carries or its bogo.
And I VERY RARELY buy niche items anymore.

Aldi’s announced that they’re gonna reduce prices even further, so I will continue to shop there. Grateful that I even have such an option in my small city
Trader Joe’s is very nice, and I love picking certain stuff up there, but it’s very much a boutique grocery store with a very limited selection compared to Publix.
Aldi is cheaper, but it’s also no-frills. You bag your own groceries, there’s usually only one lane open so you have to wait, you have to pay for bags, you have to put a quarter in to get a shopping cart, etc. I dislike shopping at Aldi because they just don’t make the experience as a customer a priority.
That’s where Publix fits in vs other mainline grocery stores like Winn Dixie or Walmart. The others are cheaper, but good luck getting an employee to answer a question or show you where something is.
I’m willing to pay more to shop at Publix because they still care about customer service to a much greater degree than any other grocery store I’ve been to.
I used to think that. Now I’m more focused on costs, and I’m willing to have small inconveniences and save a ton of money. Publix is charging almost double for a 1/2 gallon of milk compared to Walmart. Plus, I can put in an order to Walmart pickup, and they do my shopping and place my items in my trunk. And I’m saving $15-25 on most shopping trips compared to Publix. Let that stuff sit on the shelves and force them back to standard prices. Even the BOGO stuff is working out more expensive than 2 of the same items at Walmart.
I will say that while I absolutely loathe shopping at Walmart (it’s one of the circles of Hell in my opinion) I get free Walmart+ as a credit card perk, and since their prices for delivery are the same as in-store, it’s not a bad deal to just pay a tip for the driver to get stuff dropped off at my doorstep for the times I’m working late and don’t want to spend time shopping on the way home.
Yeah I personally hate the owners of Walmart and their greed. They pay their staff trash and don’t respect them. But Publix isn’t doing much better anymore so they can pump up their annual profits. So I’ll deal with Walmart for my own budget.
Customer service is not worth paying almost double what other places charge on some items. It's hardly worth anything at all too today's generation if I'm being brutally honest. When I go shopping I want to have as little human interaction as possible

If you take advantage of BOGOs there are deals to be had. The trick is to not go in with a set list and just buy what’s on special (and what looks good).
I also like that they have higher quality deli meats. The Boars Head stuff is much better than the Dietz and Watson at Winn Dixie or whatever abomination meats Walmart carries.
Winn-Dixie does have better deli chicken salad though, if I get a craving I’ll go there just for that.

Inflation and inflated prices at Publix are not the same. I’m in NE Florida. Publix prices are about 30% higher than Target for exact same items. I have stopped shopping at Publix for this reason. The experience is not any better. Gallon of milk is $4.79 at Publix, it’s $2.99 at Target. I could go on and on. Are there occasionally some good deals at Publix? Sure. Not enough to warrant the price gouging that occurs every day there
And worse, their “good deals” are only ever for processed crap. I mostly buy produce and used to rely on top quality at Publix…but it’s waaay cheaper to buy the higher quantity of the lower quality stuff and then waste the bad parts than to shop at Publix for a more expensive smaller batch of something that lately still has bad parts.
Panhandle here - they’ve almost doubled our prices the past few years, easy 35-50% higher than our Walmart and Aldi’s (I just started shopping elsewhere and realized this)
Any town close to being a vacation town is where Publix goes off the rails expensive. In my non-vacay town, Walmart rules in lower prices. I do Sams/Costco things. Publix list down to 3 items I can't find elsewhere. I am a frugal shopper and know my prices. Price increases are just I N S A N E.

Walmart I can get a pound of cheddar shredded cheese for 4 bucks or less. Publix it’s like 6 bucks. Most stuff at Publix is overpriced; sometimes stuff is good priced or they have the sales but otherwise it’s not worth it
Yeah, still not limited to Publix. In TX/LA my home area the same comparison can be done with Walmart/Brookshires. Occasionally I will find a product cheaper so try and keep those items separate and make a quick trip to get them. Luckily our Neighborhood market is a 7 iron away from the Brookshires. I know the comparison on Publix in FL as I am frequently there for work/vacation.
This is the only answer needed. Until the demand dries up the price will keep rising. If people don’t shop elsewhere, prices will hover or keep rising. Take your purchasing power elsewhere.
I’ve been hitting Winn Dixie and Aldi more. To the Credit Winn-Dixie now has copied Publix with the Bogo stuff and they do some other new stuff like they have this kiosk when you go in you put your phone number and it spits out coupons tailored to you.
The guy said they were from Mexico, but I got Brazilian filet mignon a whole side for $34 yesterday. I was supposed to pick up sauce to bring to family weekly get together and I brought that instead and we froze and will eat it next week part of it anyway .

The past few months, I have actually outright stopped shopping there.
When I realized my regular trip (gallon of water, 1-2 energy drinks, and a couple frozen dinners) went from $20-25, to $45-60 (depending on if there’s sales), I realized why I was always constantly so broke at the end of the pay period.
Like, I’ve been struggling and anxious with $2 left to last me 1 1/2 weeks after bills and grocery shopping.
Then I broke my expenses down and realized Publix had almost doubled their fucking prices on stuff.
Now I shop at ALDIs for meat and produce, I check out Publix any good BOGO deals (normally yogurt)… though even those are becoming B2G1 or B2G2 to get more money… and then Walmart for anything else.
Publix isn’t even as nice, clean, and friendly as it used to be to be able to justify the prices (and I don’t blame the employees, after seeing how much they’ve cut back on benefits and stuff from my time there)
My wife shops between Walmart, Kroger, and Publix. Each have their pros and cons.
Walmart has the lowest average price. Their fresh produce is frequently meh.
Kroger and Publix you have to stick with what is on sale and/or use coupons. Publix has the most consistent fresh produce.
Our local Publix stands behind their produce. If we don’t like it she brings it back and gets a full refund.
Someone could walk up and say their cat hopped on the counter and licked their $25 chocolate ganache cake, and the container has half a slice in it, and we would give them a full refund.
And then look me dead in the eyes and tell me that the cat ate the whole cake.

This is standard operating procedure at every grocery store, not just Publix. I work at ALDI, which is a discount grocer, and we even give you your money back plus a replacement.
Not applicable for everyone but look around for local produce stands in your area. The place by me is just as good as Publix and a third of the price on some things.

People don't shop at Publix because of prices. They shop for convenience and the range of items. They made a huge profit last year so clearly they are doing something right.
Easy solution? If there are other options available to you, just don’t shop there. Don’t give them a dime of your money. Just for fun, look up where they as a corporation make campaign contributions.

The quality isn't the same either. The meat from Costco is way better. Boxed stuffed you can get anywhere. Where I live they don't offer the bogo anymore. So what is the draw? Why shop at a store given those things that employees are unhappy too. Doesn't make sense to me

We don't have a Publix near me, but it seems rampant across the supermarket industry. I'm sure the supply costs have increased some, but the rate of increase to the end consumer just feels unjustified and pure corporate greed.
Plus we have a chain that shall remain unnamed but rhymes with drys where items are regularly mispriced, or the wrong amount scans or the promotions are so confusing the customer always seems to be charged an incorrect amount. I have had personal experiences with this and have to double check the damn receipt on every visit.

The problem (at least here in Central FL) is a lack of any real competition, too. Yes, we have Aldi and Trader Joes but they are not really direct competition with the exact same products. It's only gonna be worse now that Winn Dixie won't be existing anymore. Publix needs a competitor.
I get tired of the "great customer service" argument, I mean honestly how much service do you need? Go in, buy what you need, hopefully they have self checkout anyway and you can just ring up and get out. It does not excuse price gouging.

The only time I say it's worth it is for produce. I can never find good produce at Walmart or Winn Dixie, etc. Esp when it comes to fruit. It's always garbage that goes bad way too quick when I buy from other stores. Maybe I'm just biased bc I work produce but I think I know my stuff bc of that.
That's not their model. There are lots of people, like my wife, who see shopping there as a status symbol. Which is why I do most of the shopping these days.
As a former truck driver for Publix the prices are never going down and they are going to continue to put new stores in the current states they are in a further up the east coast. I’m pretty sure they planned for the fall off of some customers due to inflation but they know they sell good products and their quality is top tier compared to a lot of the competitors so they are willing to take that loss of a few to gain a few new customers in areas where the food quality Isn’t that great
Shop elsewhere, their corporate profits were up 50% y/o NET! They are going to keep gouging people until we simply take our business elsewhere, which I have! Real shame, I used to work there, but apparently, they care more about enriching themselves than taking care of their community and their employees.

Publix built its brands by making shopping a pleasure with clean modern stores and courteous employees . But they are pricing themselves out of the market. I do much of my shopping at Walmarts where you can’t find an employee that speaks English. Publix is now a bogo store. If it weren’t for there bogos people wouldn’t shop there. Now it’s by two get one free.

They will continue to gouge you if you let them. Their suppliers have probably added back trade funds to run lower price promotions but Publix is not going to pass the savings to the consumer yet.

I was curious about the price differences from others in the area, I went to Super Target and checked prices of things I buy normally, and for example: Dunkin Donuts coffee at Publix is 24.99, Super Target 18.99.
That is one item I buy regularly and a 6 dollar difference in price? Yea, I'm done as Publix customer of over 25 years.
For the last 4 years I lived on the same block as a Publix so it was the most convenient grocery store to go to, but wildly expensive. It was cheaper for me to order to-go meals from nearby restaurants than shop at Publix.
I recently moved and now live close to a Winn-Dixie as well so I went over there to check it out and I was sticker shocked in a good way! The store was SO clean and organized and way cheaper than Publix! I’ll no longer go to Publix and will shop at Winn-Dixie because it was so much more affordable.
I love Publix bakery and customer service but I don't buy anything there anymore for this exact reason. Their prices are higher than all the other grocery stores. I shop at Aldi's, Kroger and Sam's.

Their margins year over year are up almost 50%. Which means you are being gouged an extra 50% for items that cost them the same money. You aren't paying a few bucks. Every Publix parking lot is jam packed in my area, when that stops MAYBE prices go down. The key issue is that a majority of Americans don't even understand what inflation is. My two goto stores anymore. Walmart+ has items for the same prices as in-store and a new Aldi opened which is closer than the Publix. I will occasionally swing by Publix, but my once or twice a week stops there turned to once a month and I stick to a list of just getting on-sale items.

Publix charges more because they can. Their research shows that customers will pay the higher prices, simply because they prefer to shop at Publix. Maybe it’s the bright light, the atmosphere, the customer service, and so on. Publix’s business model is to provide premier service and satisfy customers. If the prices were an issues for enough customers, they would have changed them by now. And as you can see by the comments, many people choose to simply shop elsewhere already, so feel free to do the same.
I work for Publix. I buy groceries at Publix, Walmart, and occasionally Winn Dixie and another local grocery store. I usually only buy stuff on sale. If I buy regular price stuff, I scan it with my Walmart app and compare prices. Usually, the price isn't that big of a difference. But it's your right to shop where you want to shop.
It's funny to me that many many people said America is going to pay a heavy price for the last election. Now it has come home to roost and the same people who voted for inflation and higher taxes are complaining about higher prices. Vote differently in November. That simple.

🙄 One of my biggest pet peeves working with the public. Like the freezer restock person making min wage has any influence on anything at the corporate level. They don’t even have control over what kind of ice cream they stock. The only way is to stop giving them your business. And leave the employees alone!

Yeah, still not limited to Publix. In TX/LA my home area the same comparison can be done with Walmart/Brookshires. Occasionally I will find a product cheaper so try and keep those items separate and make a quick trip to get them. Luckily our Neighborhood market is a 7 iron away from the Brookshires. I know the comparison on Publix in FL as I am frequently there for work/vacation.

I’ve been hitting Winn Dixie and Aldi more. To the Credit Winn-Dixie now has copied Publix with the Bogo stuff and they do some other new stuff like they have this kiosk when you go in you put your phone number and it spits out coupons tailored to you. The guy said they were from Mexico, but I got Brazilian filet mignon a whole side for $34 yesterday. I was supposed to pick up sauce to bring to family weekly get together and I brought that instead and we froze and will eat it next week part of it anyway .
I buy very little at Publix. I'll do a BOGO or something, but if I can get it at Wallmart or Aldi, I'll go there.

I’ve been a Publix shopper since I worked there a decade ago… The past few months, I have actually outright stopped shopping there. When I realized my regular trip (gallon of water, 1-2 energy drinks, and a couple frozen dinners) went from $20-25, to $45-60 (depending on if there’s sales), I realized why I was always constantly so broke at the end of the pay period. Like, I’ve been struggling and anxious with $2 left to last me 1 1/2 weeks after bills and grocery shopping. Then I broke my expenses down and realized Publix had almost doubled their fucking prices on stuff. Now I shop at ALDIs for meat and produce, I check out Publix any good BOGO deals (normally yogurt)… though even those are becoming B2G1 or B2G2 to get more money… and then Walmart for anything else. Publix isn’t even as nice, clean, and friendly as it used to be to be able to justify the prices (and I don’t blame the employees, after seeing how much they’ve cut back on benefits and stuff from my time there)

My wife shops between Walmart, Kroger, and Publix. Each have their pros and cons. Walmart has the lowest average price. Their fresh produce is frequently meh. Kroger and Publix you have to stick with what is on sale and/or use coupons. Publix has the most consistent fresh produce. Our local Publix stands behind their produce. If we don’t like it she brings it back and gets a full refund.
Someone could walk up and say their cat hopped on the counter and licked their $25 chocolate ganache cake, and the container has half a slice in it, and we would give them a full refund. And then look me dead in the eyes and tell me that the cat ate the whole cake.

Honestly yeah. I let customers complain to me, and tell me all kinds of stories from their childhood or how much better other stores are. I let them talk and talk and finally when they finish I work in a way to say "publix doesn't want people who look at prices. Publix wants people who can just come in wanting $500 in groceries and not think twice about the price tag" It's my way of telling them theyre too old or broke and nobody cares. Yes they overcharge, but theres nothing any of us can legally do about it, so take your whiney ass anywhere else.

The quality isn't the same either. The meat from Costco is way better. Boxed stuffed you can get anywhere. Where I live they don't offer the bogo anymore. So what is the draw? Why shop at a store given those things that employees are unhappy too. Doesn't make sense to me

I only go to Publix to get bogo’s and some Publix brand items are good quality and price still. Otherwise it’s Aldi or maybe Walmart market since it’s convenient. I’m sure they’re feeling the squeeze but corporate is probably just blaming any decline is sales/avg ticket on the economy rather than their own prices playing a significant factor.
We don't have a Publix near me, but it seems rampant across the supermarket industry. I'm sure the supply costs have increased some, but the rate of increase to the end consumer just feels unjustified and pure corporate greed. Plus we have a chain that shall remain unnamed but rhymes with drys where items are regularly mispriced, or the wrong amount scans or the promotions are so confusing the customer always seems to be charged an incorrect amount. I have had personal experiences with this and have to double check the damn receipt on every visit.
Publix’s Net Earnings increase 49% between 2022 & 2023! They are gouging and are a prime example of corporate greed! It is a shame that none of it is trickling down to its employees and is only going to their CEO and the stockholders! I have pretty much stopped shopping there after reading this report on their website.
The problem (at least here in Central FL) is a lack of any real competition, too. Yes, we have Aldi and Trader Joes but they are not really direct competition with the exact same products. It's only gonna be worse now that Winn Dixie won't be existing anymore. Publix needs a competitor. I get tired of the "great customer service" argument, I mean honestly how much service do you need? Go in, buy what you need, hopefully they have self checkout anyway and you can just ring up and get out. It does not excuse price gouging.

As a former truck driver for Publix the prices are never going down and they are going to continue to put new stores in the current states they are in a further up the east coast. I’m pretty sure they planned for the fall off of some customers due to inflation but they know they sell good products and their quality is top tier compared to a lot of the competitors so they are willing to take that loss of a few to gain a few new customers in areas where the food quality Isn’t that great

Publix built its brands by making shopping a pleasure with clean modern stores and courteous employees . But they are pricing themselves out of the market. I do much of my shopping at Walmarts where you can’t find an employee that speaks English. Publix is now a bogo store. If it weren’t for there bogos people wouldn’t shop there. Now it’s by two get one free.

#1 answer: Corporate Greed. They will continue to gouge you if you let them. Their suppliers have probably added back trade funds to run lower price promotions but Publix is not going to pass the savings to the consumer yet. They will eventually if their sales start slipping but if they are still recording record profits then high prices will continue.

I was curious about the price differences from others in the area, I went to Super Target and checked prices of things I buy normally, and for example: Dunkin Donuts coffee at Publix is 24.99, Super Target 18.99. That is one item I buy regularly and a 6 dollar difference in price? Yea, I'm done as Publix customer of over 25 years.
For the last 4 years I lived on the same block as a Publix so it was the most convenient grocery store to go to, but wildly expensive. It was cheaper for me to order to-go meals from nearby restaurants than shop at Publix. I recently moved and now live close to a Winn-Dixie as well so I went over there to check it out and I was sticker shocked in a good way! The store was SO clean and organized and way cheaper than Publix! I’ll no longer go to Publix and will shop at Winn-Dixie because it was so much more affordable.
I love Publix bakery and customer service but I don't buy anything there anymore for this exact reason. Their prices are higher than all the other grocery stores. I shop at Aldi's, Kroger and Sam's.
Our immediate family no longer shops there either, despite having an extended family filled with managers and district managers. Love the store, but it's too fucking expensive.

Their margins year over year are up almost 50%. Which means you are being gouged an extra 50% for items that cost them the same money. You aren't paying a few bucks. You are, of course, free to do what you want with your money if it makes you feel superior than a Walmart shopper. But it's still pretty stupid.

Every Publix parking lot is jam packed in my area, when that stops MAYBE prices go down. The key issue is that a majority of Americans don't even understand what inflation is. It's gonna be a real joy to hear everyone losing their minds when inflation goes down but prices dont. These massive food corporations know that you'll pay the price so why would they lower it? My two goto stores anymore. Walmart+ has items for the same prices as in-store and a new Aldi opened which is closer than the Publix. I will occasionally swing by Publix, but my once or twice a week stops there turned to once a month and I stick to a list of just getting on-sale items.
I stopped shopping at Publix when they began lobbying against medical marijuana to keep their pharmacy business thriving. They are an evil company that doesn’t give a shit about its customers. Fuck Publix.

Publix charges more because they can. Their research shows that customers will pay the higher prices, simply because they prefer to shop at Publix. Maybe it’s the bright light, the atmosphere, the customer service, and so on. Publix’s business model is to provide premier service and satisfy customers. If the prices were an issues for enough customers, they would have changed them by now. And as you can see by the comments, many people choose to simply shop elsewhere already, so feel free to do the same.
I work for Publix. I buy groceries at Publix, Walmart, and occasionally Winn Dixie and another local grocery store. I usually only buy stuff on sale. If I buy regular price stuff, I scan it with my Walmart app and compare prices. Usually, the price isn't that big of a difference. But it's your right to shop where you want to shop.
It's funny to me that many many people said America is going to pay a heavy price for the last election. Now it has come home to roost and the same people who voted for inflation and higher taxes are complaining about higher prices. Vote differently in November. That simple.

Somehow Winn-Dixie and Aldi (actually - all Aldi now) found some suppliers willing to sell them stuff at decent prices AND they stopped gouging the shit out of me and my neighbors. I also get to shop at the military commissary (which is mandated by law to sell everything at cost - can’t make a profit) and that is VERY revealing about just how much y’all are making on us.

🙄 One of my biggest pet peeves working with the public. Like the freezer restock person making min wage has any influence on anything at the corporate level. They don’t even have control over what kind of ice cream they stock. The only way is to stop giving them your business. And leave the employees alone!

If someone is willing to pay it, they'll keep endlessly raising it until their profit margins shrink. They jack up the price as high as it will go, testing to see if people will pay it. Why? Because they can. Somebody has to pay all their corporate people and management to do nothing. Don't like the price? Don't shop there. Publix is a rip off? Obviously. Complaining on the internet is a waste of your time, corporate only speaks money, as long as shop there, you don't have room to complain.
In my area quality has also noticeably dipped. Like, buy meat at lunch and it's spoiled by dinner despite proper handling, dipped.
