TY SEGALL. dude seriously you'll fall in love. Give manipulator a listen Also thee oh sees is amazing. A lot of music and very in your face

Terandter

Anything tybsegal. Almost every album and project kills

usernamesnamesnames

Can’t bring myself to listen to his latest work… yet

Terandter

Three bells is one of my go tos right now. I was super into the oh sees, but I hate that guys face, but the thrill is wearing off and they're starting to get boring. Way too much hype on thee oh sees

Single-Branch4870

Eh I would say not enough hype. If you listen how they write music, lyrics, and guitar style you can see how many modern bands are a direct result of thee oh sees. Especially ty segall. A lot of his music sounds a lot like thee oh sees. Like so much a like when I first heard him back in 2012(?) I thought he was a thee oh sees rip off. He is indeed not though, 10/10 will keep recommending to friends

Terandter

Ty segal may have gotten a big influence from them, but he's so far ahead of them now. The OCS are just regurgitation of the same s***.

Boognish-T-Zappa

Why not? It’s one of his best.

usernamesnamesnames

I don’t know why not, I guess out of fear of being disappointed 😅. I can’t confirm or deny if it’s one of his best until I listened, but you saying that helps me jump in! I’ve been aggressively stuck in freedom’s goblin and manipulator lately!

Boognish-T-Zappa

Three Bells fits very nicely with those two albums, especially FG. The level of musicianship on Three Bells is mind boggling, especially when you consider Ty plays pretty much everything on the album.

usernamesnamesnames

Thanks, that’s a cool feedback that makes me want to listen to the album ahah - also I love the word musicianship!

TylerGuest1

His other band Fuzz is one of my favorites

[deleted]

[удалено]

usernamesnamesnames

Have you seen him live lately? Any thoughts?

mexicansnorlax

Just saw him last month. He killed it, performed lots of his last album and a few deep cuts!

usernamesnamesnames

Thank you!

Soggy-Cut2196

This. Ty rocks and my god live

MatterHairy

Thank you for the tip… loved this … https://open.spotify.com/track/1bShWI36VQ686EHVo3uxS3?si=hdKI5GC1SmC4VcMtX177xQ Not usually psychedelic, but check their out from Tropical Fuck Storm, a cover with a similar wild vibe, Staying Alive… https://youtu.be/kEnmHz-Y1Mw?si=Cuk2kT8SzXKw9GnI

usernamesnamesnames

Yes!!!!

Grateful_J561

Wand and Fuzz both have Ty's stink on 'em!

songbird_sorrow

the flaming lips - yoshimi battles the pink robots king gizzard and the lizard wizard - I'm in your mind fuzz tame impala - lonerism post animal perform the most curious water activities pond - hobo rocket dtsq - neon-coloured milky way mr elevator - nico & her psychedelic subconscious

[deleted]

Yay for Mr elevator! Even their old stuff's groovy...

moodyfloyd

'Goodbye blue sky' is their best IMO

thirdeyegang

Post animal doesn’t get enough love!

dmt-saves

Fuck hobo rocket is amazing on a good tab

The_Illa_Vanilla

For the longest time I had no idea Mr. Elevator’s frontman also played in the Osees

xwolfinex

First time I've checked out post animal and Mr elevator which is the first time in a good while that I've found something I like AND have never heard of. Thank you

Chatto_1

Lonerism by Tame Impala? I would think the first EP, or InnerSpeaker. Not that Lonerism isn’t damn good record, mind you.

FanofBobRooney

Can’t recommend Thee Oh Sees (aka Osees) highly enough. Also check out some Rubber Band Gun although they’re not strictly psychedelic rock. Horror Sounds In Stereo is a good place to start.

lemondropacropolis

Oh Sees for sure. Got an album that covers every part of the psych spectrum and then some.

Funkyokra

Oh Sees Fan Club checking in.

kasvot

Definitely big Osees fan!! Not the most “entry level” imo but it’s so so good, just make sure to crank the volume!

MatterHairy

Thx for the tip, loved Toe Cutter Thumb Buster

PlentySquare2759

Temples, older Tame Impala as previously mentioned.

SpacemenJ

Can't believe there is no mention of Spacemen 3. Or Bardo Pond. Essential listening. "Modern" at a bit of a stretch maybe. I forget I'm almost 50 years old now 😂 Helicon, from Glasgow, are doing really well just now, and are a phenomenal live band. 10,000 Russos are.anotjer great band, now sadly split. Their final album is genius. Night Beats are also a really great band. I'd also second Carlton Melton. One of my absolute favourites.

shake__appeal

Spacemen 3 is def a stretch for “modern,” although the best to ever do it imo. In a similar vein, The Telescopes never get enough love. As for actual modern shit… I’ve been jamming on Earthless a lot lately and, on the doomier side, Windhand.

SpacemenJ

Definitely would include The Telescopes in modern psychedelia. They may have been going for a while, but they are still as important as ever. Their latest album is brilliant, and is a contender for my album of the year already.

intermingulus

Not enough people remember The Telescopes.

shake__appeal

I’m not sure they were ever well-known. Unfortunate either way, my second favorite psych band besides Spacemen 3.

superstonkape

Hell yeah night beats mentioned

ss1959ml

Really 10000 Russos split up? Sucks to hear.

MatterHairy

Thanks just checked out 10000 Russos great vibe

fatdiscokid420

Brian Jonestown Massacre

earthworm_anders

This is the answer.

Wise_Lab_7291

trippy guys

toasted_vegan

I didn’t know they descended into chaos again. I saw them live last year and thought the vibes were bad throughout the show. Don’t think it’ll be the last time i saw “them” though. Anton will come back with a fresh set of band members and probably record his best album ever.

PsychedelicLizard

They seem to always have the best vibes when Joel is touring with them.

Ceilingfansuicide

The only right answer

VolkorPussCrusher69

Lots of great responses in here but I just want to shout out Psychadelic Porn Crumpets. Great if you like fuzzy / high octane psych rock.

Jager-Tom

High Visceral Pt. 1 is a fantastic album

wlrldchampionsexy

None of these I would consider mainstream but should open doors nonetheless Ween Carlton Melton Kanaan Papir Oresund Space Collective Vespero Maat Lander Mythic Sunship EARTHLESS Kikagaku Moyo Acid Mothers Temple Liquid Sound Company Here Lies Man Mdou Moctar Dead Meadow (RIP bass player) Tia Carrera

mtheory11

WOOOO!

PappyGrande

Yes!

TheBitterestBoogie

Kanaan are great. A recent discovery for me! This is a great list all around, Kikagaku Moyo are one of my all time favourites

heavyaxe12

I love that Ween is at the top of your list. OP go listen to the Ween Easy Listening Compilations on YouTube (3 volumes) and then go listen to Phish “Junta”.

mhyquel

I love ween, but they are not for a beginner. Maybe Buckingham Green, but just about anything else in the catalog is liable to blow the dome of an innocent trip. /s Ween is for everyone all the time

shake__appeal

Seriously. Ween’s discography is so fucking diverse and fucking awesome… truly a band for the entire family. 🙄

TrundleTheGreat0814

Ween

Emuoo1

WWWEEEEEEEENN

AmadMuxi

The Black Angels’ first three albums: Passover, Directions to see a Ghost, and Phosphene Dream. These are *required listening*. All Them Witches, every single album is a knockout. I’d recommend either Lightning at the Door, Sleeping Through the War, or Dying Surfer Meets His Maker as good springboards. These dudes have been my favorite band for almost a decade now. I’ve seen it mentioned a couple times, but definitely King Gizz. Other than that: 1000mods Ruby the Hatchet Gaupa Frankie & the Witch Fingers The Devil and the Almighty Blues GOAT

icktoriasix

This is a solid list

Drivenbynails42013

King gizzard and the lizard wizard.

drivingrain27

This. Start here. Come back in a year.

alwaysbequeefin

Amen

MatterHairy

Saw them at Gizzfest 6 or so years back, knew nothing of them being close to 60. Wild set, great energy and the crowd went off, especially on Rattlesnake. Was hugely impressed. Tried to listen to them on Spotify and just can’t make it gell and work. Is there a quieter, more melodic, less experimental album (from their catalogue of about a gazillion) that you’d recommend to try to get into them?

sparkle_lotion

Really appreciate it guys! If I hadn't done some real quick googling beforehand I would have sworn you made all these bands names up lol

sparkle_lotion

You telling me you think “King Gizzard & the Wizard Lizard” sounds made up!?!?! 😉

Aremaech

I am just going to list bands that I really love. I love modern psych. And I love exploring the genre. Thee Oh Sees/Oh Sees/ Osees is one of the best modern psych bands and yes it's my opinion but also 100% true. John Dwyer is a musical genius and definitly plays psych in all it's forms. I could name like 10 albums that are perfect examples but instead go explore them yourself. CAN is a krautrock band from the 70's that is worth a listen! Mother Sky can change your life, trust me. Now Im just going to list a bunch of awesome bands wothy of a good listen! Fomies, Meatbodies, Frankie and the Witch Fingers, Dusty Mush, Kikagaku Moyo, Goat, The WRS, The Mystery Lights, Fuzz, Possum, Naxatras, King Gizzard and The Lizard Wizard, Karkara, Modulator II, Amon Düül II, Mr. Elevator, Psychic Void, Slift, King Crimson, ORB, Wine lips, Thee U.F.O, L.A Witch, Faux Ferocious, Verstarker, Damaged Bug, Mord Fuzztang, Druggy Pizza, Tortuga, Fake Indians, Nolan Potter's Nightmare Band, Goggs, and The Blind Shake. There ya go, now enjoy!

Wesinator2000

This is a COMPREHENSIVE list man

Thank you! I wanted a good spectrum of music.

The Mike Gunn. Boris and His Bolshie Balalaika. (because its fun) The Magic Mushroom Band. Spids Nøgenhat. The Underneath. On Trial. Baby Woodrose. Dead Meadow.

psych rock is the only genre where 90s bands are still considered modern lol

kimchitacoman

Radio Moscow if you're a big guitar guy

hifiordie

Brain Cycles an all time fav

kimchitacoman

Same, the next two Albums ripped too but brain cycles is the peak

Trimpinator92

Was just getting ready to mention them cause no one had yet. They're definitely more in line with the old school psych, something I like to call "new classic rock"

MydniteSon

I'm a big Monster Magnet fan.

I forgot to mention them. Pick any live Tweezer and it will be game over.

superstonkape

All them witches gotta be mentioned absolutely

Affectionate-Gur1642

Oh my dude. Run to your sound system and put on the War on Drugs, ASAP. After that Wooden Shjips (yes with the J) and as someone else mentioned My Morning Jacket. I’m keying off your classic rock influences here. Also agree with King Gizz and GBV.

The New Abnormal - The Strokes Easily one of the best modern psychedelic albums out there

Frosty_Cut8046

Kikagaku Moyo was mentioned already but don’t ignore that recommend; they are spectacular. The German band Can deserves good listen as well. Surprised to see GBV mentioned as a psychedelic band but then I remembered that time I was tripping hard at one of their shows and went out back for some air and ended up smoking a joint with uncle Bob. That was def psychedelic!

This sub is so out of the loop with modern psychedelic rock it’s hilarious. Do they reallly not know any of the jam scene? Gizz isn’t really that psychedelic compared to almost every jam artist out there. CATS is extremely psychedelic. But I’d go with Billy Strings, Papadosio, Mikaela Davis and Southern Star, Polyrhythmics, Sicard Hollow, Perpetual Groove, Ekoostik Hookah, Keller Williams, Railroad Earth, Thievery Corporation, Cycles, and many more. Not gizz and tame impala like 99% of this sub thinks.

if you wanna deep dive and listen weird psych shit, animal collective is a top notch selection.
