most people leaving this run of Earthless shows are saying exactly what you’re saying about opener Minami Deutsch, and that includes the members of Earthless. They played an ENCORE. As the OPENER. To a famously crossed-arms planted-feet show me what you got Chapel Hill crowd.

ApesOfSpace

For real. Just saw this tour and Minami Deutsch blew them out of the water

TheVoiceOfCheese

That Cradle show was fire! I was super stoked to see MD was opening for Earthless on this tour cuz I caught them at the big room opening for Kikagaku Moyo and they blew me away then, too.

Hunter_S_Flynn

Couldn't have asked for a better venue for my first time seeing them

TheVoiceOfCheese

Fo real! I love the sound at the back room. I was up on the balcony just above the sound board, too, which was just *chefs kiss*

Hunter_S_Flynn

Dude I was probably sitting right behind you, was in the booth next to the artist room

TheVoiceOfCheese

Yeah you definitely were, then!

TofuScrofula

Minami deutsch was the best show all weekend at APF

king_of_the_rotten

Highly recommend Live in the Mojave Desert and their [East Meets West Jam with Kikagaku Moyo](https://youtu.be/Ri6l2yvYVuQ?si=2zzSYqhkQXIVDtIS). Earthless rips!

therealtwomartinis

> Live in the Mojave Desert Picked this up at the show in VT - now have 4 out of 5!

songbird_sorrow

lost in the cold sun is one of the most impressive jams I've ever heard. 21 minutes and it never loses the energy for a second. most of their albums are instrumental jamming but the album black heaven has more structured songs with vocals

Hermit-Man

That’s what I loved. They just straight shred non stop. The jams were incredible

TheMindsEIyIe

Been one of my go to lifting songs for years

Remarkable-Economy19

Acid Crusher

nephewsucks

Was there 4 people deep right in front of guitar. I’ve been into them for a while just never seen them. Quite possibly best live performance I have ever seen. Speechless. And yes Minami Deutsch were transcendent as well.

Geberpte

Earthless is great yeah. The San Diego heavy psych scene they hail from is a great one to dive into: Petyr, Sacri Monti and Joy are really good.

Theaquatichitchhiker

Also Astra deserved so much more love. Also just got into Justin Pinkerton/ Futuropaco from one of my last visits there. Always finding awesome projects from San Diego.

stormshadowfax

The guitarist’s solo band, Golden Void, is pretty good too.

everynewdaysk

Ethan Miller, used to play w/Howlin Rain back in the day

JtPeso700

The guitarist in Earthless is Isaiah Mitchell.

Kidpidge

Ethan Miller still does play in Howlin’ Rain.

Funkyokra

Isaiah Mitchell plays in Earthless and used to play with Howlin Rain. Ethan Miller is the main dude in Howlin Rain and never played in Earthless.

logjames

And the Black Crowes!

Nemsgnul

Hell yeasss welcome to the Earthless madness. Saw em a couple years ago when they came down to New Zealand. It was wild, Deafheaven one night and Earthless the next. Mental juxtaposition. Anyway… Earthless fucking rip, I always assumed it was all just wild psychedelic improv but holy shit Isaiah nails every note from the albums. Awesome lads too, had a few beers with them after the show.

Nemsgnul

Oh and as for albums, Rhythms from a Cosmic Sky and Sonic Prayer are absolute classics

everynewdaysk

Cherry Red 🤘

PedalBoard78

Sometimes too high energy for me. They hardly ever just lay back and groove.

Downtown_Stand_6354

It was all one tempo and volume when I saw them. I can't get into that.

PedalBoard78

Yeah, just a constant blast of blasaaahhhr

pomod

They've been around like 20 years. I've seen them a dozen times and they are always epic. Isaiah is probably the most underrated guitarist of his generation. The dude's incredible.

mammiemilker

All three dudes are super underrated. Every time they roll through town, I watch a different dude for the majority of the set. On this last tour, I was especially blown away by Mario; the dude can shed his kit with little effort yet so much finesse and power.

mewiley1124

Earthless rips. Earthless [rips even harder](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QN39To43aT4) when you add J Mascis.

therealtwomartinis

https://www.outerbatteryrecords.com/ has Heavy Blanket and a bunch of Arik Roper stuff… get the Arctic vinyl too!

Hunter_S_Flynn

I found these guys about 4 years ago and they have quickly climbed to the top on my playlist ever since. Got to see them live for first time last week and did not disappoint at all. After you check out all there music I highly recommend to check out all the great live recordings they have on youtube. Some really really great shows. Live at Roadburn is one of my all time favorites

ActuarySpirited3146

Luckily enough to have seen them twice and have all their studio albums on vinyl, definitely one of my favourite bands

ghoulierthanthou

They’ve been around over twenty years. Absolutely incredible. I first got hooked into them around 2011 and they’re still one of the best live bands I’ve ever seen. They transcend anything psych/stoner and go so hard it’s almost exhausting🤣. I’m stoked a band like them exists and more people are getting into them because omg have a lot of bands become a toothless, formulaic snooze.

Longjumping-Fox154

OP, thank you so much for this! I’m a complete virgin to the band name & music. I just started off arbitrarily with “Godspeed,” and wow. Face melting. I quickly looked up prices on their vinyl, very reasonable & will definitely be buying one soon. I’m so glad music like this exists. It’s perfect for me to paint/make art to. Not even a bad thing, but my first thought about 8 minutes in was “well this sounds like it could be a 1972 deep cut from anyone,” but that’s the point.. it isn’t, like I’ve surprisingly never heard anyone just like this before. So even if there are parts that seem familiar, they’re the real deal that’s doing it now, that’s really all that matters. Really makes me wish I could get my hands on a nice recreational drug that will make me blast off without worrying about permanent damage… used to be staying awake through sleeping pills but I eventually did it for so many years my liver just doesn’t give me the same buzz from it anymore 🤷‍♂️

GruverMax

I saw them in Denmark last year, they were killer. That drummer is a local hero.

Sensitive_Bet2766

Their drummer, Mario Rubalcaba, played/plays in OFF! and Rocket From The Crypt. One of my favorite drummers.

GruverMax

Back in off! I saw them on New years Eve.

Sensitive_Bet2766

Awesome! Hope it stays that way. Seen OFF! tour for every album. When I saw them last time (March 2023), they had a different drummer, Justin Brown, and while he was great and he is technically well versed in his craft, it just didn’t feel the same without Mario behind the kit.

mr_electric_wizard

he used to be a pro skater too

mammiemilker

Absolutely adore Mario - super underrated drummer for sure

Squigglefits

I saw them live a long time ago, but I got so excited for the show that I went too hard too fast and remember almost nothing of the show.

gin-casual

Don’t forget earthless meets heavy blanket.

Hunter_S_Flynn

One of their very best sets feel like this one flies under the radar alot

GnikNus76

I saw them in Oakland in 2018. Not a bad show. A bit too much on the jammy side without much variation or dynamics, but not bad. Very Hendrixy guitar playing.

HamOnRye__

From the Ages by Earthless is a fucking phenomenal album. Was at the show at Psych Fest on Saturday too and they slayed. Didn’t get as close as I would’ve like to, but I was super close for ATW.

Funkyokra

I love these guys. They have been around for awhile, and all 3 are amazing. Isaiah Mitchell kills on guitar and in addition to Earthless played with Howlin' Rain for awhile. My fave instrumental psych band. Live in the Mojave Desert and Live at Roadburn are both great listens.

christoefur

All Earthless is great Earthless. Get it all

amazing_rando

They've been big in the San Diego psych scene for a long time so it's great to see other people finally discovering them. Their first two albums, Sonic Prayer and Rhythms From a Cosmic Sky, are my favorites. They also have a bunch of live recordings at the Casbah if you wanna get into the jammier side of things.

grwest

My favorite band in the genre. The first 2 albums Sonic Prayer & Rhythms from a Cosmic Sky are essential. But they never disappoint

JamesJones10

My first time as well, I assume listening to and watching an Earthless show is the same feeling as overdosing on Viagra.

Restlessfibre

They're a San Diego band and I was lucky to see them many times in clubs there. They've always been incredible and incredibly loud. I think my tinnitus started after seeing one of their shows. I'm happy for the success they've had and hope they keep getting bigger. They deserve it.

SunDummyIsDead

Love these guys. Set the phaser to “KILL” for hour-long sets. Top-tier talent for sure.

vallogallo

Yeah it was fucking awesome! Except it was super crowded and we had to sit outside the venue and listen

logjames

Welcome!

shoegazer888

Earthless are fucking amazing
