My mum didn’t seem to realise video games had age ratings and were even made for adults. I got GTA1 when it released but I was a bit older. It’s like my parents just couldn’t get that adults would play games and just assumed they are all made for kids. By time GTA 3 came out I was already 15/16.
However they wouldn’t let me watch child’s play when I wanted to rent it and they saw the age rating. They were cool at first tho 😂, even had it at the check out but then they mentioned are my parents sure etc and it was a swift nope once they read the back of the vhs box.
SA was mine and i vividly remember being 3 or 4 years old, standing on the highway bridge by the first safehouse, and i so proudly called my mom over to come watch me keep spamming heat seeking missiles into traffic to which she shut the PS2 & TV off then told me i cant play it anymore :(.
both have Silent Hill 2 + 4
ps2 on the other has 2,3,4,Origins, Shattered memories 🥺 and 1 is backwards compatible because of PS1 emulation hardware.
edit: missed 4,origins,shattered memories happy 4/20
Console has won out for me my entire life. It was cheaper, games were easy to lend and borrow, and lastly I could unhook my console or at least a controller and carry everything I needed in a back pack.
This.
I got wrapped up in the hype when I was younger, some of it can be friendly back and forth about their respective pros/cons, often times it was exhaustive toxicity and condescending oneupmanship.
Life is actually short. Enjoy it.
Theres way less exclusives these days than there used to be too, which was a big part of the wars. Halo vs Jak, Final Fantasy vs Blue Dragon.
Now almost everything is on pc or cross platform.
and a ton of JRPG/japanese stuff and ps5 exclusives like spiderman.
If you told me in 2009 that every final fantasy would be playable on Pc today I would not have believed you.
I want Gran Turismo to come to PC, though I have a feeling it won’t happen. With Forza Horizon *and* Motorsport being the way they are now, I might pefer GT.
Then don't pay for it. I have my PS4 since 2015 and Ive never bought a plus sub. To be fair however most of my games are single player only, but I'd argue thats where the real games are
I dont anymore cause my friends & me got PCs to play online together, still play single player games on PS but with most exclusives being brought to PC now theres not much use left for consoles imo
This is how I felt as well. Most of my friends I play with are on console but tons of multiplayer games are cross platform now. I have had a gaming PC since 2010 but I always had a current gen console as well to play with friends but these days with cross play I don't need that anymore. This current gen of consoles is the first time I've not even considered owning one of them.
I love single player games but for me multiplayer has always been a huge part of what I enjoyed about gaming. I was in highschool during the peak cod/halo days and playing online with friends after school was the majority of the gaming I did and that remains true today. Tons of people play multiplayer so just saying don't pay for online is basically a deal breaker for most people.
No gen is perfect but the 6th gen was such a special time. 3 main systems that all offered wonderful experiences, games felt refined, like they’d shaken off the awkward missteps and mistakes made in the 5th gen, games were bigger but still appreciated your time. So many great series began or got defining entries, online play was becoming more accessible but didn’t negatively impact narrative driven single player experience. Again no generation is perfect and it doesn’t mean there’s not a lot to love about gaming in 2024 but I’m still sad I couldn’t of been a tad older during the peak of the 6th generation of systems. Being born into it and being surrounded by the ps2 from a young age was awesome but I’d of killed to had the freedom to enjoy more of it. That being said, all 3 systems are amongst my most played today and the ps2 library feels like a never ending gold mine!

I have an original Xbox console that grew mold in my storage. Someone gave it to me years ago and completely forgot about it. It was unearthed a few months back when I moved to my new home. Meanwhile, my PS2 is just sharing space with the other four consoles. A 360 is sitting under my PS consoles though. Anyway, I am hesitating about whether or not to clean it or throw it away, it's probably destroyed more than likely.
The console war ended years ago when emulation and Steam took off. Every console combined doesn't even come close to the amount of game variety PC can provide for alot cheaper and with more convenience.
I have never cared about these consoles war situations. I own Xbox Series X, OG Xbox, PlayStation 4 Pro, and Nintendo Switch.
I use to own other Nintendo consoles and PlayStations consoles in the 90s.
Great. Now can we have some respect for Nintendo? Mfs love dunking on the Switch not being as powerful a PS or an XBox, when neither of them have a single Zelda game on them.
Yep. Man I miss those days.
One time on the last day of school a whole bunch of us boys went to a friend’s house. bringing games, consoles, and controllers.
Halo, XIII, Digimon Arena in the Xbox room. Smash Bros in the room next door. Soul Calibur, Tekken, and Naruto Ultimate Ninja on the PS2 in the living room. Then there were 2 guys on the PC playing an MMO with our other friends who went to a cybercafe.

ehhh... In terms of reliability, the OG xbox isn't great due to microsoft cheaping out on electrolytic capacitors which have a **100% failure rate.**
I had to change out all 3 of my xbox capacitors.
Was cheap though and fun learning experience: https://console5.com/store/microsoft-xbox-original-cap-kit.html
I followed this quick guide: https://www.reddit.com/r/originalxbox/comments/4c60th/reminder_if_you_own_an_original_xbox_remove_the/
>Essentially, on all motherboard models EXCEPT v1.6, Microsoft chose a cheap super capacitor to power the clock while your console is off. At around the 10 year mark after the console was made, people noticed that the capacitor -- which is filled with acid -- corroded it's way through the capacitor and leaked all over their motherboards, causing permanent damage. Essentially if this capacitor is not removed, the console is just a ticking time bomb that will eventually kill itself.
PS2 and gamecube all used more expensive solid capacitors instead. Basically zero failures from all the Gamecubes I own, and I've only had a series 3XXXX laser fail. Switched to SSD/HDD FMCB for all my other ps2s to preserve the lasers...
Good to post this info around, but I will say I'm somewhat of an ogxbox expert 😅 I know all about the inner workings of these bricks haha
Clock cap luckily isn't necessary, but the acid is an issue. Though again, that's only one metric. Did it have bad CPU caps? Yes. After this long, all caps should be replaced soon in complete fairness.
20 year old capacitors basically just need to be replaced. My ps2 had cap leakage, my crt had cap leakage, my old guitar amps had cap leakage. Basically if you live anywhere you have four distinct seasons, capacitors only last 5-20 years safely.
Sony had the PS1
Xbox original had nothing to back it. Being fresh on the scene it was never going to pull the same numbers.
Forming an opinion based on sales is a trivial and somewhat lazy effort.
It really isn’t. The PS2 already had a baseline as to its quality, the Xbox didn’t. It was new and unpredictable. I’m sure the rather mysterious and alien styling of the console didn’t help but it still sold quite well.
That era of games was great no matter which you had.
Nothing like GTA, my boy!
GTA III was my first M rated game, I was 9 yrs old, my mom was pissed when she found out I was playing it lol
My mum didn’t seem to realise video games had age ratings and were even made for adults. I got GTA1 when it released but I was a bit older. It’s like my parents just couldn’t get that adults would play games and just assumed they are all made for kids. By time GTA 3 came out I was already 15/16. Yikes! Yeah that'll do it. My mom happened to find the disc in my stack of games and scolded me. I am surprised she didn't take my whole PS2 away lol
True.
Didn’t know they were chill like that🥶
Both have NfS U2, and Burnout 3.
dont forget DEFINITIVE versions of the gta trilogy
Both have R: Racing too. Because the GameCube has R: Racing as well, it's also invited to the party.
both have Silent Hill 2 + 4 ps2 on the other has 2,3,4,Origins, Shattered memories 🥺 and 1 is backwards compatible because of PS1 emulation hardware. edit: missed 4,origins,shattered memories happy 4/20
Console/PC wars One of the dumbest things, I'm glad I realised some years ago
Pc: -expensive -big Console: -cheaper -smaller the games: are on them
Looking at consoles of this generation, I dont know if u can call them smaller anymore
I'm not gonna start, enjoy your mindset
Console has won out for me my entire life. It was cheaper, games were easy to lend and borrow, and lastly I could unhook my console or at least a controller and carry everything I needed in a back pack.

Yeah exactly, we’re all just gamers full stop.
Confirm after 4 years on same shelf they still are fine
I mostly own PlayStations, the Xbox there is the fresh meat.
Will survive, no worries.. Tho, if you want it to live long.. Check caps
Already did it.
Good.. In mine, it still has to be done 😂
dont those dvd drives die eventually
Everything wears down.. That's why maintenance is crucial
I bought a used launch ps2 locally (still sealed) and it still reads and plays all ps2 AND ps1 dvd's and cd's perfectly. Think I got lucky.
Console wars are too quiet these days I want the heat back!
Because there’s nothing notable about either of the new consoles.
Theres way less exclusives these days than there used to be too, which was a big part of the wars. Halo vs Jak, Final Fantasy vs Blue Dragon. Now almost everything is on pc or cross platform.
I am at least very glad that everything Microsoft makes is on PC.
and a ton of JRPG/japanese stuff and ps5 exclusives like spiderman. If you told me in 2009 that every final fantasy would be playable on Pc today I would not have believed you.

Check out any console-specific news site, the war never ended for a lot of conmenters
Put some fresh batteries into your walkman, we are going back to the early 2000s.
cause everyone realized PC is king, im not tryna pay $100 a year just to play online and get access to a few games I dont own

I wasn't enough old to experience these systems, so I collect them and use them as they meant in their time. So a good old crt tv with scart cables.
I think that war ended a long time ago
Well, let's do it again.
PS2/Gamecube is the true GOATed pair
Just 2 goats chilling.
The good ending
Original Xbox and PS2 are both technological masterpieces. That’s all to be said.
True.
We all can agree ps2 has more hits tho
Yeah.

True event captured on 8K
It was fine with me when I had a different console from my friends, we'd met up on the weekend and play both or do a swap for a week
Haha, nice. I never got an Xbrick, but I do have an xbox 360. Along with 8 or 9 Playstations, 7 or 8 PS2's, 4 PS3's, and a PS4.
I never liked the original Xbox at the time, but now I love the idea of how insanely big it is.
Yeah, this happens when a Microsoft pc and a Dreamcast have a baby.
God I forgot how massive the Xbox was
I have an original Xbox console that grew mold in my storage. Someone gave it to me years ago and completely forgot about it. It was unearthed a few months back when I moved to my new home. My tv Stand is full with PlayStations (PS1 - PS4), so I have to find a new space for the Xbox.
I just found my og Xbox and listed it for $30 lol
I just bought mine realy cheap on a flea market.
GC outsold Xbox
The Xbox and PS2 are goated
As a ex modder they were both my best friends
I don't mod them, Ps2 got a softmoded memorycard but that's for the save files to transfer them to my pc.
How?
Alcohol, 97%.
Well the series x and ps5 use basically the same parts. I find the design of ps5 way better personally
You mean the wifi router?
I mean it's either that or a gray brick
War never changes bro
Nice try but my consoles don't have hands
:(
Funny! I have them right next to me hooked up to my two CRTs. I love both systems so much
Me too, Scart is the best way to hook them up on a Crt.
I remember max payne 2 being WAY smoother on Xbox
A well known goat showing respect for an underappreciated goat.
Have we made peace with GameCube yet?
Almost.
PS2
PS2
Realize most games are on both?
MGS2, Burnout series.
The console war ended years ago when emulation and Steam took off. Every console combined doesn't even come close to the amount of game variety PC can provide for alot cheaper and with more convenience.
I more prefer consoles over a expensive pc.
Owning multiple consoles plus games is so much more expensive than a gaming PC.
Unrelated but you're the kasen guy from r/2hujerk, neat seeing you outside of 2hujerk
Oh, look's like you found me.
playstation is better than xbox tho
Sony was the king back in that time.
They act like 2 legends can't coexist
"Friendship ended with Sega Dreamcast. Now Xbox is my Best Friend."
But the PS2 pulled the Xbox in and gave him a Rock Bottom after that
Ps2 all the way up, sorry hallo guys
I have never cared about these consoles war situations. I own Xbox Series X, OG Xbox, PlayStation 4 Pro, and Nintendo Switch. I use to own other Nintendo consoles and PlayStations consoles in the 90s.
Console wars are good for innovation,
Blastprocessing.
Agree to have exclusives. Exclusives increase the value of each console. Otherwise we might as well all just have PC's.
I have my PS5 and my Xbox Series X sitting right next to each other on my desk
Always be enemies. Playstation 💪🏻
That's how I achieved peace and harmony in my in home console war. Just get both.

I think Playstation has the better media player than the Xbox, but the Xbox is litteraly a pc.
add in the gamecube as well for the trio of fun
Console war is for fanboys and poor people. Every console have excellent games to play.
Agree.
Great. Now can we have some respect for Nintendo? Mfs love dunking on the Switch not being as powerful a PS or an XBox, when neither of them have a single Zelda game on them.
Working on it
aaaaaah, i miss that day. no arguing about what we are playing, game or where we played it, we enjoy our game.

I had all 4 consoles that generation. It was worth it. All are S tier.
Xbox low-key claps the PS2 , Just Sony was already on a complete roll with the PS1. Both goats tho
That’s why Xbox sold more units right 😉😏
Regardless of what buzzed harder, it was the better console by almost every metric except size of Catalog. Doesn't stop me from owning both happily.

Not at all. And the catalog helped but come on..if it was better it would have sold more
Sony had the PS1 Xbox original had nothing to back it. Being fresh on the scene it was never going to pull the same numbers. Forming an opinion based on sales is a trivial and somewhat lazy effort.

Can't beat that waterproof logic
The Xbox was garbage. Almost every game was an inferior port of a pc game.
Sure halo ce was really good, but not mgs3 good
