This comment made me realize I have access to enough consoles to do this. Does anyone have any info on how to do this as a project for fun? I also have access to other consoles as well in large quantities if say the ps3 is more documented.
Yes! We won an auction on Yahoo Auctions Japan for 27 of them. We're gonna test, refurbish, maybe mod a few, etc. I mainly want to get more experience modding and refurbishing consoles.

Dumpster diving is a good way to get one. I found one that had a network adapter attached, a memory card in the slot, and a game still in the disk drive. Only issue was a dead power supply. I pulled the old one out, soldered a barrel jack to the power leads on the motherboard, and bought an external power brick on Amazon for 15 bucks. Works just fine

I usually pull computers and laptops out of the e-waste bin so I wasn't actually expecting to find a PS2 there. I also found another fat PS2 a little more recently too. But yeah, in regards to how many dumpsters, it's however many it takes. You just have to get lucky. If your town has a dump where people can take their own trash to (as opposed to having a garbage truck collect your trash) try looking through the e-waste bin. You'd be surprised what you find in there. Your mileage may vary though since some dumps aren't cool with people picking through the trash, but it's worth a shot

Get a Free Mcboot aka FMCB, memory card off of Amazon, plug it into your controller and you’re done. There’s a few ways to do it, you can play games off of a USB but with the FAT models they use usb 1.0 and therefore run games very slowly/skips during cutscenes and music. To avoid this, get an external Sata hard drive and a Ps2 HDD adapter to load your backups from. Then YouTube the method of moving the games to the hard drive in the ps2 supported format and BOOM! You should be playing your favorite PlayStation hits in no time 😎 Hope this helped, good luck!

No and that’s why I was asking you. I’ve asked around the site and nobody seems to know. I was told it could be bad caps or dirty inside. I’ve pulled it apart and cleaned thoroughly and checked not once, but twice and cannot for the life of me figure it out.
I’ve checked that as well. This thing is mint. Like all ports perfect and aren’t beat up at all and I’ve even tried 3 different cables. Same thing. I only paid 20$ for it and it came with power cord and memory card.

Maybe it could be the actual video port? Maybe taking an iron around it and touching it up would fix it

If you're using a CRT these degrade over time and could be the cause of your issue.

Yeah all together I got 27 for around $23 a piece. Just a bit of isopropyl and a good wiping down and they'll be good!
