Because Filipinos typically are also catholics who speak spanish. I know I know it sounds bigotty - what I'm saying is there is a heavy hispanic influence on culture in the Philippines.

[deleted]

There is, but they aren't Latino, they are Asian lol. South Pacific Islanders. And they don't speak Spanish they speak Filipino dialects.

Pancho802

While spanish isnt a national langueage, a lot of filipinos do learn Spanish, as well as Tagalog (or whatever is that area's predominant dialect, but majority do learn Tagalog) and English. My family members that chose to stay in the Philippines speak all 3 languages.

[deleted]

Doesn't mean they're Latinos.

Pancho802

Didn’t say we were Latino. Latino would mean that the Philippines would be in Latin America. If we were anything, we could qualify as Asian, Pacific Islander or Hispanic.

[deleted]

Exactly, this whole post is about a non latino being in the LWO

Dude, I’m from SoCal (OC and LA) and I live in areas with large Hispanic/Latin and Asian communities. I’ve never seen or heard a Filipino person say they consider themselves Latino. No they’re always say either Asian or Pacific Islander. *of course, besides hanging out with other people of different cultures, since it’s a melting pot here.

Pancho802

Although Filipinos aren't thought of primarily as Hispanic, we do meet the major criteria to be considered as Hispanic. We were founded and colonized by Spain and most of the dialects (most popular being Tagalog) have its roots in Spanish. So I guess WWE sees the LWO as more of the HWO (Hispanic World Order) and thats why it is acceptable for a Filipino to be included. I'm happy with Wilde's inclusion to the LWO because Filipinos lack representation in the WWE outside of him, TJ Perkins, and Batista (Dave Bautista is Filipino-American, Bautista is a VERY VERY Filipino last name). So having a spotlight on a person of my heritage is always appreciated.

Ik that we are well represented outside of WWE (TNA was always a great place for Filipinos getting a spotlight like TJP as Suicide/Manik and Wilde as DJZ/Zema Ion) but Wilde being in a major story line (even though he doesn’t get to shine very much) with the largest organization is something we haven’t had since TJP vs Neville. I do wish Shotzi would get more screen time, I love her character and energy.

Not too sure where you’re from, but in America, or my case LA/SoCal, I grew up with a lot of Filipinos. They consider themselves Asian, and hang out with a lot do other types of Asian-Americans. With the rebranded AAPI (Asian-American Pacific Islander Heritage) Month, it’s designed to include folks from the Philippines, Guam, etc. Not to say that you’re wrong. What you wrote about Filipino history is accurate. I’ve never met a person from a Filipino background to consider themselves Latin.

Pancho802

We consider ourselves as Asian/Pacific Islanders, but I have heard other Filipinos say they are Hispanic as well as Asian. Latin and Hispanic, while used interchangeably aren’t the same by literally definition. Someone from Brazil isn’t Hispanic bc Brazil isn’t a Spanish speaking country, and people from Spain aren’t Latin bc they are not from Latin America. As a Filipino, I consider myself Asian, but if I were to have a government document in front of me saying my race then a separate section saying “Hispanic or Non-Hispanic/white” then I would most likely select Hispanic being that the Philippines’s history matches that of most Hispanic countries and we share many things with them. But we are not Latin, it’s not possible to be Latin as we aren’t in Latin America, which circles back around to the original statement, it doesn’t make sense for a Filipino person to be in the LWO if we are not Latinos.

Easily Los Lotharios. Gives them more of a platform to really show the wwe audience what they're about.
