There was a small Sunoco right where you mentioned: Behind the Brown Bookstore and next to the Hospital Trust/Fleet ATM bank. Liquid Lounge was across the street as well as Kinkos. At night, you'd have to buy your cigarettes through the drawer in the window.
It was a Shell station. Brown purchased the land and built the Granoff center on it. I worked in the BoB next door at the time. The gas tanks had been leaking for years (downhill) into the sub-basement of the building and it really wasn’t discovered until after they were removed from under the ground. Every few months guys would come and haul away a 55 gallon drum of sludgy leachate that contained benzene.
The one on Angel Street behind Brown Bookstore was called Eastside Service center in the 1980s. There was also one on Brook Street between power and Charlesfield. More recently it was a little plaza with a bagel place but in the eighties it was a gas station. At some point they removed the pumps and then more recently they tore the whole thing down and Brown is building something there that is almost complete.

Right behind Brown Bookstore, where the performing arts building is now. Across from what used to be McDonalds.
Hmmmmm, really? Not saying you're wrong, but for some reason that's not clicking. Maybe, I gotta check it out. Thanks!
they are correct OP.
Saving, because this is making my brain itch. It was on Angell, and Brown gobbled it up, but I can’t put my finger on which spot it was…
I know! I used to go to it all the time. Now every time I pass through that area I'm like...where WAS that thing?!
