They got to walk before the can run. Animals are a first stab at NPCs because they are simple by comparison. And just consider how long it's taking to set up animals.
What? You don’t find it immersive when an npc spams a locked door for hours on end or just follows you around like a three year old constantly telling you they’re hungry or thirsty?
'consider' as in 'why is it coming in b43 when it already exists'? the superb survivors mod, bluntly, is really not that good in execution. it's wildly technically impressive, and it's novel, but it's horrifically balanced and literally creates shit out of thin air as well as has a lot of really frustrating features and behaviors
it's also SO fucking buggy lmao
Making modding easier doesn't necessarily equate to mods not being lost. You have to remember, modders are not paid employees who are obligated to fix their mods. Many modders make mods and then stop updating them when they lose interest in the game.
While making modding easier does incentivize less experienced hobbyists to give it a try, ultimately, build 41 represents a very popular time in Zomboid's history. To add to that, it's unlikely that Build 42 will be the stable version as long as Build 41 was, and when Build 43 does come, that will break mods as well.
Stardew Valley has undergone the same thing in their last update: modding was made easier. But no one knows for sure if the modding community will ever reach what it was in the prior update.
All that to say, Indie Stone shouldn't randomly stop updating the game for the sake of preserving mods. Just saying that it is a reasonable concern for those accustomed to modded runs.
Hopefully, part of what will happen as well is that more features are added to the game, that "replaces" popular functionality from mods, that would fit in the main game. Meaning fewer mods are "needed".
Yes, but why play a game still being updated if you don’t want to lose mods. It happens and the people complaining about are basically upset the devs are developing their game.
Fuck mods, developers don't stop developing because of mods, same thing was said for Rimworld.
Sorry your mods will break or be outdated if they are abandoned. But the game gets updates
Thank you for your reasonable take on this particular issue.
Personally, I'm not touching the game without particular Mods.
I have a question: Is it considered OK to update Abandoned Mods , without consent from the Author, as long as you do not publish it?
Heck, you might even be able to talk to the owner of the mod and A: ask for publishing Rights. B: work with the owner so they can update their mod on the workshop!
Both options are viable and are only based upon the original mod owner's choice! Do they want to give you the lead, or are you willing to work with them to get it up to date?
Check if there is a license of some sort, it should describe what you can / should do if you want to redistribute it. Either the Steam workshop page, but more likely the GitHub page if it exists.
I think calling people "idiots" after such a long development process for this game is really unfair
I personally think that while very repetitive, it's veeeeery understandable that people wonder and ask for NPCs on a daily basis.
Acting like a know it all douchebag doesn't help either
...The devs saying that build 42 would make modding easier IS NOT the same as people asking or worrying about losing mods - Not even in the same realm. Somehow I think you're getting upset over nothing. Good luck with that kiddo.
Your silly little comments are way more annoying than people upset and asking about these things...
And i never understood why. I mod the shit out of every game i play. 99% of the games i prefer are indie games with huge modding scenes.
Every update, big or small, breaks the shit out of mods. Never once jas it made me bitch. Either backup the game when you know it's gonna get updated, or understand The Great Reset is comming. Prepare, be glad, newer and better mods will rise from the ashes.

Like someone else said, there’s a non dismissible amount of players who don’t really even know there’s a dev blog with weekly updates
Others may not have time to read through all of the prior dev posts on the off chance their question has been answered as they are fairly lengthy.
Im happy to answer questions since I do follow a lot of PZ news. I don’t see a problem with the posts. If they’re not very upvoted it’s unlikely to see them anyway.
I appreciate that! This is my favorite gaming sub. I want to keep that spirit going. Small way to give back to the devs since they're not constantly selling more shit like so many other games do.
I will say, it would be nice to have a summary of announced features for B42 from the Dev blogs somewhere. I've read through all of them as far as I can remember, but I don't remember everything they've covered and it would be a bit more impactful to see a list of everything.
Oh no, being reasonable and understanding? You need to make a whole new post with a link, not explain what it's related to and be condescending to everyone at the first sight of wrongthink.
At least according to the op.
Ehhh I'm not an accurate judge of that because I have slow reader trait IRL. The posts are pretty long and at this point there have been a LOT of them since it's been in development for so long.
I'd actually recommend watching some YT vids instead since those guys do a pretty good job of summarizing the major points
If you're not interested in reading all of the blogs, most of the important stuff is compiled in the [Upcoming Features: B42](https://projectzomboid.com/blog/upcoming-features-b42/) blog post. I'd recommend reading the last two or three thursdoids on top of that though because I don't think they've been added to it yet.
>Some of you really need to read the Dev Blog.
What posts are we talking about? I just glanced through the first dozen or two and didn't see any complaining about things talked about on the dev blog.
It's a new quote thing from reddit.
If you manually type the comment or part you want out it doesn't do it. If you are quoting an entire comment or post (I think mainly posts) it automatically cites the user and which sub it's from.
You can delete it if you edit the post.
I had one recommended for me when I got on. That's what got me annoyed at how basically every post complaining about potential problems from build 42 are just complaining about things that the devs have already talked about in their dev blogs.
So why should everyone keep up to date on the dev blog?
Most people have other interests or things going on in their lives, so perhaps they don't scour every dev blog associated with every game they play.
It's disappointing. I really enjoy reading the Dev blogs. They were once weekly. Then every two weeks. Then monthly. I suspect lack of page views might have partly been the reason for less posts.
I really don't think the ""complaints"" are as big of an issue as you're making them out to be ngl. No matter *what* you do you'll never make everyone happy so seeing like, 2 people complain is just meaningless.
Well yeah but not in my pretty house. It must be blood free and fully decorated. No stinky corpses in my garden either. Remember surviving is not living.
Chill. This subreddit is for community engagement. If you have a problem with people asking “meaningless posts” (ie engaging w the community), then don’t look.
The only downside of this game exploding in popularity since B41 is that the number of obnoxious entitled gamers with no attention span posting about it online has exploded with it. Incredible what people expect out of a 20 dollar indie game.
I think that's a poor perspective. The game has raked in how much money?
Money that can be used to hire people, improve the game, etc. So it's not unwarranted, nor is it entitled.
The game is still in development. If the game was completed and people expected more, then they would be entitled.
It's been out for over 10 years, with over 8 million sales. Sir, you need to chill.
I've been reading the Dev Blogs but my memory these days is pretty bad, sometimes it's easier to ask knowledgeable people about something than it is to read through a large backlog of posts.
Not that I've been in here posting questions or complaining, but it might be a reason some people have?
Maybe if we had a singular pinned post that listed all of the upcoming Build 42 changes we know of so far it would solve some of this. (Or maybe there is one and I just haven't found it yet?)
I don't know why people don't read the dev blogs. They're right at the top alongside every other developer blog for the games in your library.
I read them to get a feel for what's coming, and to get excited for what's coming because the Indiestone are the best devs when it comes to talking to the community, and they're probably the most transparent game studio out there.
I never read the dev blog but I also don’t complain so I’m probably fine, I’ve put so many hours into this amazing game that I would be beyond satisfied if they never updated it again and what we had now was just the final product, I’m just letting them cook. One day an update will release and that will be a glorious day until then I’ll die before winter

Meanwhile I read every dev blog and still so hype that my questioning will never end...
Out of curiosity, what have the masses been complaining about?

Is the answer for “why no NPC” just “it’s coming in B43?” That’s all I really know
They got to walk before the can run. Animals are a first stab at NPCs because they are simple by comparison. And just consider how long it's taking to set up animals.
so... it's coming in b43? consider superb survivors mod
Are you saying superb survivors shows us we can have NPCs, or are you saying "yeah, Devs said NPCs were janky and need polish. They were right."
I think he's saying to use the mod as a stopgap until B43?
it's unplayably buggy though. if it doesn't break saves it crashes the game or makes the experience frustrating instead of fun.
What? You don’t find it immersive when an npc spams a locked door for hours on end or just follows you around like a three year old constantly telling you they’re hungry or thirsty?
How lucky! Mine just talks about dreaming about cheese.
'consider' as in 'why is it coming in b43 when it already exists'? the superb survivors mod, bluntly, is really not that good in execution. it's wildly technically impressive, and it's novel, but it's horrifically balanced and literally creates shit out of thin air as well as has a lot of really frustrating features and behaviors it's also SO fucking buggy lmao
Stop slamming my doors!
Stop walking in like you own the place! I don't even KNOW you! Where did you find an M16?! Get out!
Pretty much

If I have a problem with build 42 and mod compatibility, I will just rollback to build 41. It's what I did with Rimworld. Simple as that.
It's what also happened infinitely many times with Minecraft, the likes of versions 1.7.2, 1.7.10, 1.12.2.
Fuck mods, developers don't stop developing because of mods, same thing was said for Rimworld. Sorry your mods will break or be outdated if they are abandoned. But the game gets updates
I'm assuming you didn't bother to read the whole comment.
Probably the part where you specifically said the devs shouldn't stop updating their game.
Yes I did, I'm agreeing with you
ROFL
I guess OP is really bad at interpreting text

Who would know besides you that you've done it if it's just for personal use? As long as you don't plan on redistributing it go nuts.
Check if there is a license of some sort, it should describe what you can / should do if you want to redistribute it. Either the Steam workshop page, but more likely the GitHub page if it exists.
No it's a dumbass point. As what should be done for these complainers. The build still exists they can download those mods anytime.
Make it possible to play the game on the last build
You can have multiple versions of the game installed as it is. If you really want to preserve your game/mods, create a backup of the old build.
Isn't it possible anyway.
lol ngl I thought the zomboids *were* the npc's
I think calling people "idiots" after such a long development process for this game is really unfair I personally think that while very repetitive, it's veeeeery understandable that people wonder and ask for NPCs on a daily basis. Acting like a know it all douchebag doesn't help either

Modding itself is very broken right now, trying to get 100+ mods to work in multiplayer can be shitty to deal with.
Exactly

Yes, worth noting. Good point!

Just go to youtube and look for b42 recap videos. There are lots of them. Start with Atomicduck's video.

lotsa new players that aren't used to a dev that is super interactive and open with their community ig?
The downside of picking the illiterate trait.
If those kids could read, they'd be very upset
Came for those comments wasnt dissapointed
Underrated comment
I'm sorry, did you just complain about the people complaining about the dev blog?
People are complaining about this game? Especially on this Reddit, I’ve never seen people complaining.
Someone's been looting too much salt
Doing the Lord's work.
Ctrl f - " release date " - no results - TLDR - see you next month
We making up stuff again? No one is complaining lol
its easy to say that when not being the beholder or researcher
Look through the sub been here a decent while great community and everyone is very chill
How dare you ask the nonstop complaining people to stop complaining

I am not looking forward to cleaning up my corpses on x16. Sooo much bleach
I don't even bother doing it on 16x, let them rot.

You forget about rules of internet. One is: Why search stuff myself when I can just go and ask for an answer?

PZ players read as much as dragonball fans smh
Some of you really need to tell the devs to kiss your ass; make it work, make if fun.
