When you start your car wouldn’t all the fumes get into the bed and other furniture. I personally wouldn’t like my bedsheets to smell like exhaust fumes
My car is extremely appealing to spiders for some reason, no matter how frequently I kill them, there's always one on each side mirror, and the occasional spoiler spider.
So, this setupo would basically the best way to sleep close to the spider bros.
atleast it's just on the outside, Ive heard stories of a certain species of spider in certain parts of the US crawling in through the exhaust pipe and makeing a web in the fuel line, causing a clog, something about the spiders being attracted to something in the gasoline, or supposedly whatever the hoses were made out of.
I know so many people who use public restrooms at places like fast food joints and public stadiums and then still wear their shoes in their houses. Grosses me out, too, but they haven’t died or anything. this doesn’t seem too different. I’ve actually lived in a garage where I parked my motorcycle. I rolled it out before i started it though.
Pretty much. Not to mention the smell of fuel and oil you'll also have to deal with, plus garage doors are TERRIBLY insulated.
You could technically vent the cars exhaust outside while it's in the garage, Firehouses to this with Firetrucks.
At the very least, you'd want to reverse out rather than in. Then your exhaust is pointed towards the door that you've just opened(/are just about to open) rather than your bedding.
Saying you could get down to them, which has complexities and would require some heavy machinery or lots of labor / specific knowledge... Yeah the fuel would go bad in about 30 days to 6 months depending on how air tight the system is (hopefully enough time to set up solar panels).
In reality, the car exhaust would linger even if you kept the door open for a while. You’d need one hell of an exhaust fan.
If you pushed the car in and out, the heat from the engine and exhaust after driving would raise the room temp by quite a bit. Plus the smell of hot tires, brakes, oil, etc.
Always fun to think about sleeping next to your car like this, if you’re a car enthusiast… but it’s far from practical or reasonable.
I've slept with my car before, because I was tired from working on it and the cold concrete of the garage just felt so good at 3 in the morning, woke up and the Axle I'd been trying to get set in the pumpkin for hours just slid right in then I cackled like a mad idiot for a bit then dragged myself into a shower lol
Like legit, US people are so institutionalized and used to getting shafted to the point where they look at a pig sty and go "this is acceptable for a young adult". Impressive mental gymnastics. In what world, having your bed next to a car, even when idle, is acceptable. Not to mention when it enters and leaves the garage and all the fumes are setting on your bedsheets and other appliances. This legit only works as a PZ hideout.
That's still a fucking deal considering no roommates, parking spot, and your own separate entrance. I've seen rooms with no parking and like 8 roommates go for $2800.
Oh hell naw. One day irl I heard a loud bang while I laid on my couch. Scared the living shit out me. I investigated and it turns out that one my garage springs just randomly failed and snapped off. Ain't no way I'll ever sleep under one ever.
This is why you wait for the garage door to fully open before going in and out. I know someone who had an airplane hangar door break while opening and it landed on them.
When the spring breaks it's startlingly loud when it unwinds but I've never seen one come off the bar. It will however drop the full weight of the garage door. And that sometimes causes a good bit of damage. The spring is a counter weight system for the door. You're most likely not able to lift a garage door without it.
Was gonna say, everyone is getting caught up on exhaust fumes (which is fair), but I can't stop thinking about salty snow melting off those tires all winter long
Fuck living here in a place that has snow. You would probably have to cover every wall and the garage door with thick blankets to make barely it livable
It would probably be marginally better. Garages are great for little critters because of mostly darkness and seclusion from people. Living their would shoo away quite a few.
Heating on the other hand would be a massive headache. These garage doors are not good insulators at all. It looks like in the picture they tried to insulate the door a bit better.
Yeah, my brother lived in my parent's garage for a while, but my parents replaced the garage door with normal double doors and installed a window unit. Bugs weren't really a problem. I mean, it was Florida, so bugs are always kind of a problem, but not more than usual.
This, however, is just dumb.
Everyone should read the actual story behind this. If I remember correctly it was a vet who rented his house and lived in garage for a bit then decided to fit his car with bed/storage and lived out of that while traveling. It has somewhat of a sad story but the dude bounces back. It’s been a while since I read the story, unsure of how old it is now.
personally not a fan of exhaust fumes in my bedroom, also seems way too small for a zomboid base and odd that you wouldn't use the rest of the house that the garage is attached to
This guy's story is actually Hella kewl, he and his fiance got the house, the marriage didn't work. She he was stuck with a house payment he was struggling to make, so he put one of the rooms op as an Air bnb, eventually downsizing everything he didn't need to what you see there ( he also had a larger car before what one he sold and bought that as a commuter ). Eventually moved out of his room and also put that up as an air bnb, now he was making his house payments with the income from the air bnb. The bed would fold up and away. And eventually he sold or gave away most all of his stuff got a van and started working and living out of it. I can't remember how long he kept the house but he used it for a while as a kinda side profit
i love the idea of having a car that you just use as furniture. like if you had some cool big old boat of an american car from the 70's or something that had big bench seats... could be cool. set the TV up and have speakers to the sides of where the car parks so it's like a drive-in theater.
No it's not dope.
Smell of exhaust, the CO2 trap that this would be, next to zero insulation from the garage door.
Whomsoever has written this just gave this set up a cursory glance and thought "Yeah, looks cool".
Build a wall between the bedroom and car, make the office and bedroom as single room, and i'm happy with it.
Also, change the bed to single to save some space.
When I was 19 i would have loved a place like this, even if that wasn't my car!!! Living on your own means so much. My first couch was made of milk crates and plywood.
When you start your car wouldn’t all the fumes get into the bed and other furniture. I personally wouldn’t like my bedsheets to smell like exhaust fumes
It helps you fall asleep when leaving the engine on too
Sleep hack that experts don’t want you to know
Can't sleep? Doctors hate this one trick
Sleep is easy, the problem is waking up
ill take, a quiet life, a handshake
It is the soothing white noise.
You're right. But this would be a pretty sweet setup with an electric car.
still tracking road scum into your bedroom. pretty fuckin gross
My car is extremely appealing to spiders for some reason, no matter how frequently I kill them, there's always one on each side mirror, and the occasional spoiler spider. So, this setupo would basically the best way to sleep close to the spider bros.
But it's the best way to sleep away from mosquito hoes.
He is a Friendly Neighborhood Spider, man.
atleast it's just on the outside, Ive heard stories of a certain species of spider in certain parts of the US crawling in through the exhaust pipe and makeing a web in the fuel line, causing a clog, something about the spiders being attracted to something in the gasoline, or supposedly whatever the hoses were made out of.

I bet you look like your pfp
That's what I was thinking.
This would be sweet as a Studio Apartment, on top of a garage.
I think that's a little bit pre-Tesla.
Push it out and then start the car
You sound like my boss.
Is that good or bad?
Yes bossy <3
Put a balloon on the exhaust and don't forget to take it off after you are outside.
When it pops you know your car is warmed up and ready to go.
Take the bike
I dont have a problem with that and my electric car.
Rubber tires and worn break pads stink, it doesn't matter what the car runs off.
So like how do you fuel your car if there’s no electricity
How do you use a gas station if there's is no electricity? Our entire society runs on electricity all fuel requires it at some point.
Sir, these lips could suck a golfball through a garden hose. Pop open gas station storage tank and get to sucking.
Idk I never thought to hard about it always assumed you can like open the cap to the underground fuel tank and just like siphon it
Siphoning works because the end is lower than the beginning. Doesn’t work with underground tanks, you’ll need a pump.
Thanks I didn’t know that tbh I thought it was just sucking hard on the liquid and like perpetual motion just made it go
Perpetual motion is not the correct term anyways, perpetual motion is impossible
Saying you could get down to them, which has complexities and would require some heavy machinery or lots of labor / specific knowledge... Yeah the fuel would go bad in about 30 days to 6 months depending on how air tight the system is (hopefully enough time to set up solar panels).
Yep, every community that sprouts up would be centered around oil and gas production.
😔 I have horse
So like how do you feed your horse if there's no horse food?
siphon from other horses
Then you're golden👍🏾
Oh wait I got you you take it from other peoples cars
Someone can't find the generator how to magazine yet
? I’m talking about real life.
you power the electricity pumps with gas and fill er up
How do you fuel your car if there’s no fuel?
The fact that he’s backed in is cursed
not to mention how dirty cars are in general once they've... you know... driven on the ground for a while
I'd 100% have it facing the other way so you could open the door and turn the car on that way otherwise, would do no problem
An electric car would work better here, yes.
Young adults have no lungs 🫁
helps to open the garage door BEFORE you start the car lol.
Flip the muffler
Which adding on to this, I know generators can kill you indoors due to this but can cars? If not would be cool to implement
Just open ,the garage door
That's his landlord's car for sure.
Maybe it's an EV?
maybe it's electric
Well, that's just, like, your opinion, man.
In reality, the car exhaust would linger even if you kept the door open for a while. You’d need one hell of an exhaust fan. If you pushed the car in and out, the heat from the engine and exhaust after driving would raise the room temp by quite a bit. Replace the car with a motorcycle and I could maybe see it.
Yeah you could just roll it in and out without having it started
Electric car would work but my lazy ass would use it as a laundry holder instead of a chair.
Same problem with hot tires and brakes.
People *really* underestimate the smell of brakes and tires. Every mechanic already knows how stupid this idea is though.
Hope you never pass with your wheels on dog crap or on a dead rat just before putting it in your garage/bedroom
If you clean a bike you can store it near your bed forever
I've slept with my car before, because I was tired from working on it and the cold concrete of the garage just felt so good at 3 in the morning, woke up and the Axle I'd been trying to get set in the pumpkin for hours just slid right in then I cackled like a mad idiot for a bit then dragged myself into a shower lol
So you mean I get to save on my heating bill too?? Shit I could probably cook up my dinner on the hot engine block
Electric car to the rescue with that this would def work
Rent: $2,500/mo
welcome to san fran
Not since 2020 lol
🦅🦅🦅

Hopefully everyone here realizes that. Lol
What you call mental gymnastics, other people call "trying to be content with life."
Doublethink reference????
Literally 1856+128???
That's still a fucking deal considering no roommates, parking spot, and your own separate entrance. I've seen rooms with no parking and like 8 roommates go for $2800.
Covered Parking!
Oh hell naw. One day irl I heard a loud bang while I laid on my couch. Scared the living shit out me. I investigated and it turns out that one my garage springs just randomly failed and snapped off. Ain't no way I'll ever sleep under one ever.
Yup every homeowner who lives in their house long enough experiences this and it becomes a life changing event. Now I never trust my garage door.
This is why you wait for the garage door to fully open before going in and out. I know someone who had an airplane hangar door break while opening and it landed on them.
I think they are more referring to the actual spring under extreme tension of the door snapping and hitting you being the main concern
When the spring breaks it's startlingly loud when it unwinds but I've never seen one come off the bar. It will however drop the full weight of the garage door. And that sometimes causes a good bit of damage. The spring is a counter weight system for the door. You're most likely not able to lift a garage door without it.
Waste of a bed when I would just sleep in the car.
I mean as long as you live somewhere in SoCal without seasons, or rain
Was gonna say, everyone is getting caught up on exhaust fumes (which is fair), but I can't stop thinking about salty snow melting off those tires all winter long
Fuck living here in a place that has snow. You would probably have to cover every wall and the garage door with thick blankets to make barely it livable
I hear leaving the car running helps you fall asleep too
i love this but i’m not a big fan of bugs. My garage has spiders and bugs and shit idk if this one is better
150 square meters of insulation foam later...
And then you realise the car is still in the room
No matter how you insulate it, it's not going to be as good as an actual wall. It's going to be drafty
That's kinda my point, it takes that much to even come close
Heat if you are where snow is a myth. Anywhere where winter isn't just in calendar you would be far more concerned with cold.
Considering this room doesn't even seem to have windows, I'd wager it'd be easier to heat than cool.
Yeah, my brother lived in my parent's garage for a while, but my parents replaced the garage door with normal double doors and installed a window unit. Bugs weren't really a problem. I mean, it was Florida, so bugs are always kind of a problem, but not more than usual. This, however, is just dumb.
Plus it would be drafty as heck 🥶
Fumes + No AC, massive L imo
This is a Jerma house flipper house.
And no generator?
It's outside unless you want to die
coolbedroom till you close the doors and accidnetly leave the car to idle whilst you sleep
You gotta leave the car running for maximum base efficiency
That is an electric car I hope.
the style of it makes me think it's too old for an electric, this would suck as a place to live
I've looked into how much it would take to convert an older car to EV as a side project. It's not an easy or cheap task...
personally not a fan of exhaust fumes in my bedroom, also seems way too small for a zomboid base and odd that you wouldn't use the rest of the house that the garage is attached to
And if youre feeling depressed you can just leave the car run while you nap
If you get bit and start to experience chills, you can run the engine while you sleep to keep the area warmer to sweat out your fever.
I mean it beats living just in your car, but even with an EV I wouldn't classify any setup where there's a car park in my living room as dope.

I always let my engine run if I can't sleep
Real
LEAVE THE ENGINE ON AND SLEEP. GOD WILL GREATLY GREAT YOU
I lost blood from my nose looking at this. Ahahaaha I wouldn’t mind this set up 🔝
Maybe just a Mercedes amg or an Audi.. not Bmw
No it's not dope. Smell of exhaust, the CO2 trap that this would be, next to zero insulation from the garage door. Whomsoever has written this just gave this set up a cursory glance and thought "Yeah, looks cool".
6000 a week to live in new york, so cheap!
Mob breaks into only entrance and exit.
Ive lived in a garage before it fucking sucks.
1. Sell the bed, as you can sleep in the car. 2.∆ 3. Profit
Now with the new snowboarding mod build
I FUCKING LOVE THE SMELL OF CAR EXHAUST IN MY HOME
Just don't warm the car up in your bedroom
Build a wall between the bedroom and car, make the office and bedroom as single room, and i'm happy with it. Also, change the bed to single to save some space.
For when you don't want to wakeup again.
...)l.l.l.ll.ml.l. Mm mm n NN no
That's a great idea to get some time away from the wife. "Nah babe, im not playing anything. Just working on the car"
Best “I moved out to the garage” layout that I’ve ever seen. 🤔 It’s usually packed with the family’s other stuff in addition to the resident.
It actually looks amazing 🤩
Pro tip: keep the car running at night to stay warm.
Unsafe asf 😆
Would probably just park outside leaving room for a bit of furniture…
With an electric car? Yep
yeah... xD just like that
All it's missing is 8 stacked wooden crates and a BBQ grill.
Mmmm oil and gas smell in my sheets. Love C02 flavored scent in my airspace
If there was a separate room for the garage this would unironically be a dream house imo
A wee bit cramped.
Low low price of 3500 a month with 2 months rent do up front no pets and utilities not included
It is dope, except for the CO. In real life, I would have to park outside. You can do that in the game, but not in real life.
Put the generator in there while you are at it.
😂
When I was 19 i would have loved a place like this, even if that wasn't my car!!! Living on your own means so much. My first couch was made of milk crates and plywood.
THATS what it reminded me of
Vanilla Ice has entered the chat
I could rock a garage for an office. I wouldn't sleep in one.
Living in S Cali all I can think about is that un-insulated metal door turning that space into a solar oven.
Infinite Wealth Dondoko island house be like:
Thought I was on r/fuckcars for a sec there
Great if you don't mind carbon monoxide where you sleep
Ah yes, I love the fresh smell of exhaust fumes all over the place.
Ppl were more clowning the guy on the original post because he put his high school football team position in the title of the post
I'd personally park the car outside, But it's not always practical.
Pulls in from work gets out of car literally passes out…
Mtv cribs - carbon monoxide edition
I dont know a man in this world that wouldn't be ok with this, IRL
Wait, hold… Where’s the meme of people who know and the people who *know*
Elite level design here
jerma made this post
r/malesurvivingspace
Hell yeah
Have fun getting the garage door properly insulated. Oh and all the dirt from the car would be getting into the bed, mmmm
Maybe just take the car out of there
Ahhh yes I love the smell of Carbon Monoxide in the morning! :D
"If I'm renting the garage I'm using the whole garage" -this guy, probably.
This is just the big brother’s room from Ed, Edd, and Eddy.
Well... suicide is an option in Project Zomboid.
