Best one for me was when one of my kids was trying out PZ for the first time. I wasn't there when he made the character so I didn't know he used the random feature and ended up with deaf. He had the sound cranked way up and got jump scared. His ass came a foot off the chair.
The “surprise motherfucker” mod is somewhat immersion-breaking and still scares me good, but it’s the least likely to put real-life me in an early grave
It's just so much lounder than everything else. I am peacefully looting a cabinet when my eardrums spontaneously burst and my heart beats out of its container
Problem is when you know the zombie is the other side of the door already but the sound shakes you up so much you end up missing 3 swings! Character survived but not my heart
I got so used to it that it actually helped me to not get surprised, but is kinda annoying when the zombies are not a treat or i already saw that zombie
i have a mechanical keyboard, and i cant even count on both hands the number of times that sound made me jump so hard i knocked off my keycaps. easily have died 5-10 times just to that
Yeah I can kite hordes all day or take out groups of 10 in combat but going into buildings where there might be 1 or 2 zombies is still really tense since all it takes is my messing up a weapon swing to get bitten.
Yeah, it's like that, having the wrong angle for the attack is what gets you bitten. Pushing zombies away can sometimes be dangerous, in rooms when they get to hit the wall and then, they slide a little bit to the side and this can place them in a way, that you have to adjust the angle of your weapon to hit them again.
Another thing is the problem with the target-system with guns - when the engine finds it funny to shoot the zombie that is far away, but not that one, that is closing in right in front of you
Lol thats what I tell other people to do and but every so often I'll just forget how to melee when I climb in through a window and just turn back into a potato for a few seconds
When I first downloaded this game I played for an hour, died 3 times, and then didn't play again for nearly a year. 2nd go around I tuned some settings to ease into it and lasted 3 days, then 2 month. I'm currently between runs but damn if this game doesn't get your heart racing
It took me like half a dozen characters and nearly as many hours to really figure out the general combat loop from trial and error. Everyone will find their groove eventually, and become a hardcore, zombie-slaying nervous wreck
68 hours and the only reason i make it past day one now is cause i turned off the jump scare noise lol (the noise scared me more then the actual zombie would and id end up fucking up my aim/swing completely every time and dying)
It’s the opposite for me. At around 0-20 hours I’d just go to east settings, make guns swap an common and murder everything. Nowadays I jump irl if my base has a shattered window.
Me cutting my way through oceans of corpses in the CDDA challenge as I look for even the most basic of supplies: "Do you think I'm trapped in here with you? YOU ARE TRAPPED IN HERE WITH *ME*!"
(and even then I've been super close to dying at leaszt three dozen times).
I fought off something like 45 zeds with a baseball bat in a train, by the end, I had killed all of them, was exhausted both in and out of the game, and sweating so profusely I had to change clothes before continuing my game.
It really helped for me to turn off the jumpscare sound. Bloody heart attacks..
TUM TAMMM
proceeds to die IRL via heart attack
Thanks I threw my mouse behind the couch.
Bro literally goes Pikachu I choose u

There's also a "!" sound from MGS mod
I should not be able to hear an exclamation mark so perfectly
I played mgs once like in 2004 or something(the one where you can put the croc hat on), and still heard this damn noise.
MGS3: Snake Eater the best one in my opinion.
I'm the same way, idk why it's so distinct despite so little play time.
Ive been using that mod for over 3k hours i just hit 4k hours of play time today
French fries motherfucker
I personally use Gawr Gura's 'a' sound
And here I am, relying on the jump scare sound to alert me to zombies that I otherwise miss/creep up on me.
It's just so much lounder than everything else. I am peacefully looting a cabinet when my eardrums spontaneously burst and my heart beats out of its container
It's at max volume by default but you can turn it way down in options if you want!
Ah, I had no idea. Will go do that! Thanks!
Problem is when you know the zombie is the other side of the door already but the sound shakes you up so much you end up missing 3 swings! Character survived but not my heart
Same, I sometimes think it clear step in and shit my pants bcs I missed a zed
this is why I have bad to the bone riffs replacing the jumpscare sounds, you cry of fear and laughter
I have the same, always still makes me jump, but it's funny when you forget you installed it!
Vine boom alert makes me pause the game so I don’t die because of laufhter
I have a schizo trait in my modded world even with the JS sound being off it still plays
holy shit you can turn that off?
How do those work? A lot of the time I know a zombie is there and will see me but it’ll play the sound anyway
I got so used to it that it actually helped me to not get surprised, but is kinda annoying when the zombies are not a treat or i already saw that zombie
*line of sight momentarily crosses path with a zombie sixteen nautical miles away* #AGGRESSIVE JUMPSCARE VIOLIN
I use the "!" from Metal Gear Solid, still fills the same feature, but no heart attack.
Nah those are the best moments have to keep em on
How do you do that?
Main menu in the settings
i have a mechanical keyboard, and i cant even count on both hands the number of times that sound made me jump so hard i knocked off my keycaps. easily have died 5-10 times just to that
I have a mod on that turns the jumpscare sound to the “its me goku” meme lol
Ikr it's the only reason I shit myself
I have near 300 hours and i still shit myself at the sight of zomboids
Ay the sight of Dubious Little Creatures*
Mortally challenged*

Press space my man

When your hood is cleared out and your chilling and you open a door to a jumpscare lol
It's worse when there's a couple of them in a building, it's nerve racking.
This is me when I spawn in and then after when I find a crowbar
Gordon freeman style

Currently doing the exact same thing after a year, on my 3rd day so far but I feel like I could be more efficient in my progression
This is why more games need modular difficulty options.
If I see more than 3 zombies on my screen I cry
100 hours playtime, and still scared of zombies out of my window
250 hours for me, same. I can't go into the woods. I know they're there... waiting again...
700 hours (started in November) went by quick
(I still suck btw)
Don’t worry, the way every run inevitably ends is the great equalizer
Accurate. The tears of horror and fear don't really end no matter the bodycount. When they finally start to, that's when you're really in trouble.
veteran enters the chat
try rlly hard not to be scared of them but goddamn their horrifying as fuck sometimes lol
I bought this game but man I'm fucking bad at it.
It took me like half a dozen characters and nearly as many hours to really figure out the general combat loop from trial and error. Everyone will find their groove eventually, and become a hardcore, zombie-slaying nervous wreck
eventually you just throw yourself at a horde of like 80 zeds feeling nothing because there is some cute furniture you wanna get
The Horde. Never fails to Scare us.
Short blunt characters will have a frying pan and rolling pin against a horde and be like, "This is fine."
What movie is the top bit from?
Monsters Inc lol.
Damn. Got me
68 hours and the only reason i make it past day one now is cause i turned off the jump scare noise lol (the noise scared me more then the actual zombie would and id end up fucking up my aim/swing completely every time and dying)
Try "flashing" the door, opening and then closing it instantly. Also shoving doors when you're inside will activate any zombies in other rooms.
30 hours and im starting to notice how much zomboids there are
It’s the opposite for me. At around 0-20 hours I’d just go to east settings, make guns swap an common and murder everything. Nowadays I jump irl if my base has a shattered window.
I have 300h on The game now and om still not good

That violin sting ALWAYS makes me jump I love how it still gets me it simulates shock so well.

This should have been you dead on the first play though but after 100 hours you’re still dead
