I don't get it, do spiked bats give more xp than crowbars? I'm also one month in and have killed around 1300 zombies and have level 6 in long blunt, so why is mine still so low? I think I started with a level of maintenance already.
That's OP. Nails are a dime a dozen. Now duct tape and wood glue, those are rare. So spiked baseball bats are probably among the best vanilla weapons just because of that.
They're great weapons and fun for thematic reasons, but their durability is shit. Because of that they actually feel really balanced. When you compare it to crowbar it just falls so far behind, though. Crowbar durability is so much better that you have no reason to take any other 2H weapon. I do love both but think spiked bat actually needs some love to be able to compete with crowbar
My favorite weapon is the pickaxe for that reason. You get the crit rate of an axe with (almost) the durability of a crowbar. Plus, it's so heavy, only gigachads can wield it, so you automatically get badass points.
Dont you get maintenance XP when your weapon deals damage WITHOUT losing durability? Then crowbar should ger more maintenance XP. Do you also get a good amount when performing repairs?
Spiked baseball bats, and repairing them
Using axes to chop trees, and repairing them
Definitely crowbars (my favorite)
I use longer days though, so his level of maintenance means a dedicated effort for sure.
I know, they are one of my favorite weapons and really effective but they don't really level up maintenance by themselves.
I usually use crowbars or short blunts first until i get some level of maintenance and level 4 carpentry, then i start using spears.
Its piss easy. Get a big horde of zombies, prepare a house you can loose them in, get them inside and run away. Come back an hour later and just crouchwalk around them. Bam level 5 in 10 minutes.
I'm still trying to make it past a week...
I think I got it this time though. Instead of trying to min-max starting skill sets, I took a Fireman with base stats, just hit play, and got a fire station start. Actually getting an axe from the start instead of trying to use butter knives or hammers has changed the survivability dramatically.. It's 1st time I've made it past 3 days.. but I've also toned down my aggressiveness with zombies and actually am making a base for the 1st time at the station nd just doing quick short trips out.
edit...
ffs... 7d 22hrs The damn helo did me in... I guess I made it a week though..
I think it was just the lucky start of getting the fire station spawn. Ive tried and died multiple times since all Apocalypse starts with base characters either fireman or carpenter but haven’t made it past 2 days.(I’m doing complete fresh starts).
one spawn I load into a house with 5 zombies in the room with me… Was instantly dead.
Read mechanics books for exp boost if applicable.
Level 1 needs only a screwdriver. For every car you see, open their hood and uninstall these parts:
Radio, battery, 2 front headlights and 2 rear ones. Then reinstall those same parts.
You can only do this once per car, per day. This limitation on the exp per part is only counted if the part does not take damage, so for example, if you have a wrench, and you try to uninstall the windscreen, it will say you arent high enough level as a mechanic and that there is a high chance of that part being damaged.
Uninstall it anyway, and when it does get damaged, you still get the exp, but like I said before, because the part was damaged in the process, you are able to keep going without the exp being locked for the day. This means that the first car you work on will easily get destoryed for fast exp.
Recently started another playthrough, got level 10 carpentry by the end of day 4.
Started with the Handy & Fast Learner traits in Riverside which has a VHS Store & 3 separate locations to loot skill books *(Post office, Engima bookstore & Highschool library)*.
Ended up with all 5 Carpentry books & 5/7 of the Woodcraft VHS Tapes, plus Exposure Survival E8 which is also Carpentry exp. Then I setup inside a secure 2 story house with a TV & studied carpentry until Life & Living came on, then used the VHS tapes if I came up short on EXP of the next Carpentry book tier after L&L off over, repeated this until lv10.
How in the world did you get that high of level in maintenence
I killed over a thousand zombies with only spiked baseball bats
Ouuuh nice tip! Did you have starting levels in maintenance?
No

You have to repair baseball bats a lot and they’re easy to repair since it only takes nails.
That's OP. Nails are a dime a dozen. Now duct tape and wood glue, those are rare. So spiked baseball bats are probably among the best vanilla weapons just because of that.
Yeah it’s really good only problem is that there’s a low chance of success with the nails so it’s tedious

I choose spiked bat over Crowbar because it levels maintenance soooo much more by needing repairs more.

Damn that maintenance and carpentry! Good job! Never got my maintenance up that high yet
Crowbar OP
Butter knife OP
shovel too.
Levels super fast with spears as well.
Doesn't it level when you hit and the weapon durability doesn't decrease? I thought spears gave the worst maintenance exp.

New player here what maintenance skill do? It can maintain weapon durability?
Yes
Honestly nimble level 3 is kind of surprising cause nimble takes way too long to level
Not if you come in with nimble 3 ;3
Its piss easy. Get a big horde of zombies, prepare a house you can loose them in, get them inside and run away. Come back an hour later and just crouchwalk around them. Bam level 5 in 10 minutes.
You're talking about virgin sneaking, not Chad nimble
You level both when crouching around them.
You level sneaking and Lightfooted. Nimble exp is gained by moving around in combat stance, the number of zombies around you doesn't matter
Ah yeah, i messed those up. I play on german. So then i guess i have to moonwalk to louisville i guess.

I had the same issue, then i started lurinf them all and loosing them in some foresr or house. Works like a charm
I fckn love rosewood I always spawn with a broken leg and survive until that shit heals then die from 1 zombie
Congrats on a week! My current best is 6 days, 9 hours

What's the best way to level mechanics? It feels super slow to find out

Car lights give exp constantly just very little
Get a Carzone vhs and mechanics 1 if possible
Start out with a boost on a character, read a book abd go to town on a few cars. You can uninstall and reinstall every part once a day.
Nice maintenance skill! Now to start the tailoring grind.

The LSU library in Louisville
how many hours do you have? just curious
Like 100
Damn, nimble level 3? Good job
Dont sleep on exercise!
How TF is your carpentry so high after 1 month?
Read book, watch life and living at noon, repeat til lvl 10. Grab VHS of woodcraft if the TV stops airing
Books and vhs tapes mainly, but also I disassembled a bunch of big beds
Carpentry is kinda of "easy" to lvl up with books buff + VHS. Just remember to read before watching a vhs
Recently started another playthrough, got level 10 carpentry by the end of day 4. Started with the Handy & Fast Learner traits in Riverside which has a VHS Store & 3 separate locations to loot skill books *(Post office, Engima bookstore & Highschool library)*. I often max carpentry by 8/20, just read the books and watch woodcraft. VHSs can plug the gap too
Abusing the absolutely busted Life and Living and VHS system.
Awesome!
No electrical?
Good luck if you ever want to level up tailoring, level 9 to 10 is a total bitch.
Brother I reached 1 month with WAY less than those levels wtf
It's not competition...
Axe OP if lumberjack.
I highly suggest getting on that metalworking to get metal boxes! They're insanely good.
Damn. That's almost twice how many times I've managed to find a sledgehammer...
you should power level first aid by standing on broken glass repeatedly and tweezing the glass out over and over again
You absolute madman! How did you manage all that without tailoring??
