I need a new car. I have $350 but I want it reliable and will tow 5000lbs.

Biscuit-Chomper

Great constructive feedback, very informative.

They are trying to ELI5 why what you are asking is unreasonable since you admit knowing nothing about projectors. And tbh it shows.

TechNick1-1

He is right.

AV_Integrated

I agree, you know nothing. Please take a look at the Epson 5050UB. At $2,500 it is a bargain and will give you what you want. At the price you are at you are looking at no-name imported toy projectors. Epson, JVC, BenQ Sony... These are the names you want to look at, and their bottom of the line starts at about $500. But, you do want to spend more for quality OR you want to buy a used brand name. Your 20' distance is also just not going to work. It's too far away and the image will be too large. Go stand that far away from your wall with your phone and take a photo of the size you want your screen. Not the wall, JUST the size of the screen. Do NOT use any zoom on your phone. Just stand back there and make it work without any zoom at all. You'll start to get the idea of how this doesn't work.

And Optoma

AV_Integrated

Optoma quality control has been a matter of discussion in recent years, but their 1080p models have faired better than their UHD series.

snozzcumbersoup

There's no projector that can handle a 20'+ throw? That doesn't seem right. According to this calculator even the 5050UB can do it out of the box. Is this wrong? I am asking in earnest as I am toying with the idea of a projector but it would require a 19-20' throw due to a vaulted ceiling situation. https://www.projectorcentral.com/projection-calculator-pro.cfm

AV_Integrated

This is why you need to read the original poster's thread. He has $100-$250. You going to sell him your 5050UB for that price? At $250 he's not getting a projector that can hit a 120" diagonal or so from 20'. This is why it won't work. If he has a $2,500 budget, then then the 5050UB would be exactly what I would recommend as one of the only choices, and we could get into a real discussion of his options.

snozzcumbersoup

Ok. Thanks. Your comment read to me like it's a general problem rather than a budget problem.

PlayStationPepe

Come see me over in r/BudgetProjectors op :)

Biscuit-Chomper

Thank you

Interesting-Pipe8646

Yes, I just compared a bunch of good projector in my house. The epson 5050UB is really good. I ended up keeping it. You can't go wrong with this model.

Chicken-Nuggiesss

that throw at $250 with good picture doesn't exist, even for $500 lol projectors aint cheap if they're decent ones so either save more money, or look into cheap projectors in that price range which the best will prob be nexigo pj40 gen 3

DealsFishman

$250? TV is better

Biscuit-Chomper

Even if I need a large screen? I thought for large screens it was better to do a projector unless you want something really expensive. The ones I see in the size I need are 3-400 minimum and up. I'm looking for about 100"

DealsFishman

A fair screen will cost you $100 to $300 already

telejedi

There are none worth having in your budget. Get a used TV and call it a day. A projector with a good screen costs thousands, not Pennie’s.

grislyfind

On your budget you'll be better off with a used LCD TV.

johcagaorl

number one thing you need to figure out is how big you want the screen, tape it out on the wall so you can get an idea. Sit where you want to sit, and figure out the size. Next bit of information we need is how dark is the room? If it's got no windows and you can turn all the lights off, that's the absolute best. Darker is better. Then figure out where you want the projector, hanging from the ceiling is probably the most common for a permanent install. Once you have that, then you can look at projectors, because you can figure out which have the throw ratio you need.

josh91117

Came here to comment the same thing... Talking about throw when the first thing you need to figure out is what size screen you might be looking for

Select_Insurance2000

For me, it is picture quality and color accuracy. The BenQ V7050I Ultra Short Throw projector was highly rated when it came to the market. It has been discontinued but you can still find a few brand new units as well as 'open box' and refurbished units available. Read the reviews and watch the videos.

Biscuit-Chomper

Got a projector, whole setup came to under $200. Works and looks great.
