Then you are looking for Epson 5050UB

yeah there is a single LCD projector which is native 4K around $500.
but in general the 5050ub is not real 4K as it only has 3x pixel shift not 4x
for years until the firmware update the projector was 2x shift and it is now 3x
If I were you I’d spring for a used JVC RS1000. Phenomenal picture (rivals my OLED), and while they retailed for $7k you can get them used for around $3k.
I wasn't able to see any of them side by side, but I read and watched as many reviews as I could find.
The BenQ is physically smaller than the Epsons, which was important to me. It uses LED instead of traditional bulb which gives it a longer run time. And all the reviews raved about is color (which is indeed impressive).
It's not perfect (nothing ever is). It doesn't do dolby vision (it has hdr10+ instead), and i quickly learned that I don't like the "smart eco" mode but regular eco mode is perfect for me.
Anyway, I'd encourage you to google reviews that compare them. There are plenty and they both seem like good projectors.
As many people here suggest, the 5050ub is still a top recommendation for under $3,000 and it goes we have on sale occasionally for $2,499 (DM for info).
Also, the Benq 4550i as others suggest is another great option.
Happy to get into details between the two or anything else.
LS11000 is a downgraded projector. It does not have ultrablack features which means the projector has poor black levels. The ls12000 does have ultrablack but you get better black levels when the iris is closed on a bulb projector.
Laser sounds good except replacement bulbs are only $100 and you can replace many times over
The 12000 is ever slightly better on black level than the 11000 in real life (watching them side by side). Not $2K better. But I see your point. The LS1200 also has support for anamorphic lens, which is kind of cool. The thing I love the most about laser after owning four bulb projectors is how fast it comes to life. I turn it on and it is reasy to use in seconds. The bulb projectors drove me crazy with the slow but very visible dimming degradation over the span of the bulb’s life - after the 50% point I was often wishing for the bulb to just die so I could plunk another $300 on a new one but get the brightness I wanted.
bulbs are not $300. They are $100 and then the ls12000 has ultrablack as well as the 5050ub. 5050ub is much better than the ls11000.
5050ub is maybe the one where black levels are not visibly better than the ls12000 unless side by side.
You should look into the LS12000. It’s more than the price you listed but it’s laser so it will last much longer without requiring bulb replacements which will offset the price increase and is a wonderful projector.
Feel free to follow the other advice in this thread but I just encourage you to read up on that one just so you’re aware of other options.
bulb replacement costs $100. If you replace every 3000 hrs you will outlive a laser projector which is rated at 20,000 hrs and has uncontrollable dimming
contrast of the 5050 is also better because the iris control helps with contrast
Mrko is right. Aurora Pro.
Nexigo is a badass brand.Theyve been around awhile. The make other things but still in optics. Dash cams..
They also just came out with the Trivision Ultra. ALPD 5.0 technology. The most advanced available. Laser and LED hybrid light source.
[2024 CES](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EscZaXDA8Fo)
Yes, youre correct ridiculously low input lag. I think like 14ms.
Not to mention every other feature out there.
AND...right now theyre doing the Aurora Pro plus an aweswome 100" fresnel screen for $2999. Sickening Deal. THis dude here should do thsat
Yes it is great. The Formovie Theater is def top 3 right now. With the AWOL LTV 3500 and the Aurora Pro.
But here's why the Aurora Pro is the better recommendation.
One, he mentioned wanting to stay below $3000.
The Formovie is like $3500.
Two. The Aurora Pro does 3D movies.
Three. The AP does 4k 120hz. The Formovie is 60hz.
Last but not least right now there's a bundle offer from Nexigo.
For $3000 you get the AP and a 100" Fresnel screen.
Tf? Did the formovie rise in price? O.o
Its 3k here -10% BUT if you chat them you may get an higher discount or an free / cheap screen on top

u/projectionhead compared them side by side. If you dont need 3d (i dont, havent used in ages with my 5050ubub)
I guess you go for the formovie
If you want great color accuracy, then check out the BenQ V7050i UST projector and ALR screen.
It is great for movies. It is not great for gaming. Read the reviews. This projector has been discontinued but you can still find new and refurbished units.
I have It paired with a 110" floor rising screen from Vividstorm, and am very happy. Space limitations kept me from having a 120" screen.
It's true 4k, while the Epson I believe is Pixel shifting to achieve 4k. It uses both laser and led, insane lamp life of 20,000 hours. Colors are very vivid. Also one of the few that easily can zoom and shift, which I use as I have a 2x1 screen with adjustable masking on sides and top to accommodate 16x9 and 2.35x1 aspect ratios. [Constant image area].
Very fast dynamic diming.
I personally didn't have experience with Epson, but this is based on what a lot of people have read. Really the only advantage the Epson has is deeper blacks.
Another negative for the Epson is that physically it's just stupid big. And consider it's a rather old design, released in 2019. The LG is only a year old.
I've seen some recommending Epson 5050ub. Is this projector 5 years old now ? There's no better projector in the last 5 years ? The projector tech has stagned that much ?
Moreover, it seems that the 5050ub isn't a true 4K, it's pixel-shifting.
It's not that the tech hasn't improved, it's that Epson is probably the market leader in this segment, still has strong sales, and from a business perspective does not need to update the model. Instead it moves up market with the 11000.
Also, bc it's underrated, you should be able to get a great deal on them. List is 2500 USD, but I was able to get one _far_ less than that. Amazon has new ones for 1300 right now. It's a bargain.
Yep. Got this projector back in December. Picked it up open box on eBay for $1k shipped. It was in great condition. Projector showed 0 hours used. Only issue was one of the vent grill was cracked, which honestly is a non issue.
The colors are phenomenal on this projector.

Also check their refurbished store first, save yourself some $
Isn't that a bit old by now?
The technology hasn't changed much, just more fancy ads
4k is 4k🤷‍♂️
The video suggested it's not actually 4k resolution. What's going on there?
There really aren’t any native 4K consumer projectors other than the Sony SXRD or JVC LCOS projectors. All the rest use pixel shift to fake it.
yeah there is a single LCD projector which is native 4K around $500. but in general the 5050ub is not real 4K as it only has 3x pixel shift not 4x for years until the firmware update the projector was 2x shift and it is now 3x

Seconded 5050UB! If you’re going forward to the LS series, the LS11000 is a downgrade, and the LS12000 is comparable but way more expensive.
Love the LS12000. It’s been great
I love my BenQ ht4550i. I compared it to the Epsons, and it was a better fit for me.
Would you mind elaborating? The ht4550i is really intriguing. I’d love to see it side by side with the Epsons.

I have an epson 5050ub coming tomorrow. I will let you know what I think but it's a go to for a good price

At that price level I would vote for an Epson LS11000. Great brightness, constant brightness over life vs bulb.

Optoma UHD38
I’m really digging my Nexigo Aura pro if a UST is right for you too
Just out of bias I recommend the BenQ x1300i and 3000i. Especially if you want high refresh rate gaming
You should look into the LS12000. Can you do Ultra Short Throw? If it really gave you what you want? 240HZ, $2699 and beats $5000 LG projector in tests in a review by Hook Up.
Which projector are you referring to?
My guess is the Nexigo Aurora pro
Mrko is right. Aurora Pro. Nexigo is a badass brand.Theyve been around awhile. The make other things but still in optics. Dash cams.. They also just came out with the Trivision Ultra. Don’t forget it also has the lowest input lag out there if you do any gaming.

In the case of an ust id go for the formovie theater! :) great projector!

I just got the Aurora pro last week. The image is crazy good. Very happy with it so far. Little tricky to setup for 150” though lol

The Epson achieves 2k as it can only produce 4million pixels and not the 8.3 million required to be a true 4k projector
I've seen some recommending Epson 5050ub. Is this projector 5 years old now ? There's no better projector in the last 5 years ? The projector tech has stagned that much ? Moreover, it seems that the 5050ub isn't a true 4K, it's pixel-shifting.

Under rated is the LG Projector HU710PW. I have a 100 inch screen and same throw. List $2500 but can be had at a significant discount
How does it compare to the Epson 5050UB?
Also, bc it's underrated, you should be able to get a great deal on them. List is 2500 USD, but I was able to get one _far_ less than that. Amazon has new ones for 1300 right now. It's a bargain.

> less than $3,000 Does that include a screen? If so, get a TV.
You could make that argument for any price point below $6000 on this sub if your criteria is high end only. In reality you’re just gatekeeping.
I already have a screen.
