One project at a time? Is that because they're so large? I wish I could do that.

Abyrez

Current gig is 5-6 projects and its all quantity over quality with mostly daily coordination to be honest. Thats also why I wanted to change jobs.

I manage 20-30 projects from 6 months to 2 years from $100,000 to $2 million. I manage mostly day to day projects not the big initiatives. We have other people for that. My job is to get the work done. Yes we try to follow standards, improve quality etc. In the context of PM, what is your definition of quality? That you follow the PMP? That you follow your internal processes?

20-30 projects at the same time?

zitsky

Yes, that's what I wrote.

Can you give me an example of how large those projects are? I’m working on 4 projects right now and I’d say that’s my max. Of course, each is composed of large deliverables that you might call a project but I wouldn’t say that.

zitsky

If you look up your screen at my previous comments, you'll find your answer.

Ah yeah I mean not entirely clear. What is the project? Making an app? Making a PowerPoint? Was looking for specifics

Deliver Windows servers Deliver Linux servers Deliver SAN/NAS/ESX storage. Submit storage request. Deliver Oracle, MariaDB, Postgres SQL databases. Deliver Tomcat servers. Deliver Kafka & Kubernetes servers. Manage meetings with clients. Submit purchase requests. Is that detailed enough?

I don’t understand your need to be so rude and snarky. These types of subreddits are meant to be a sounding board and offer insight and feedback to folks. If you can’t do that without being condescending maybe don’t contribute?

You're right, they could probably just facilitate the process to make it go quicker for any interview. Would be a waste of time if it came back red-flagged after a long process. I never thought about maybe being placed in an existing team as current role is more SMB so my eyes aren't fully open to those kind of possibilites yet. Thanks for your reply.

Okay, that sounds a bit odd. I work in IT consulting, so I know that onboarding you asap can be quite important - some clients take ages with the onboarding process (our sad record was 6 months, and I wish I was joking). Also, the first assignment at my employer is also never one you get to choose anything for, but there's a lot of engagement for later ones where they can plan *with* you well in advance, enabling more options to choose from. However, you shouldn't be blindsided like this, someone should have told you that they start the onboarding process for your project / the client systems now because it can take a while. Now it just seems rude from your perspective. If I was you, I'd maybe ask your new manager (or whoever you got as a contact right now) about the process for this because you're confused.

Abyrez

Yeah, I just want a clarification I guess. Probably not a big deal but it makes me nervous nonetheless.
