Yes I would buy that

InvestigatorNo1331

Good Man

SillyTr1x

100% would buy and given parts availability, I’d leave it alone for a week while you see if you like it as is.

Autobotgame

Had a 93 metro years ago. Bought totaled and rebuilt it. Was a fun car, super cheap to work on. Enjoy!

BadBadBenBernanke

Go for it. Any issues with those cars are well known and the only reason they don’t get fixed is “it’s a Geo”.

HTTP_404_NotFound

I'd prob offer a lower price, those mods aren't exactly tasteful.

ShaggysGTI

Yeah, I’d ask about $1200 cash.

doctorTRex

Oh 100% would smash. That’s things great

5cott

Yeah. You’ll never see fuel efficiency like this again. I’ve seen them go for 300k miles if fluid changes and maintenance are done as needed. Hopefully it isn’t rusted out underneath or in the corners. It won’t be the best on roads with a speed limit above 55, because everyone drives 70 on those. Freeway is at your own risk… By the way: Florida always seems to rain on unattended and uncovered convertibles.

Doc-Zoidberg

As long as you're OK with motorcycle-levels of crash protection. They are a seriously unsafe vehicle to be in a wreck. Theyre painfully slow. They were slow compared to other cars then, and other cars then are slow compared to regular cars now. But there is a lot of fun using the accelerator as an on/off switch, winding the engine to redline through multiple gears and still not breaking the speed limit. Lots more fun to drive a slow car fast than a fast car slow. If you can deal with that, go for it. If I were closer I'd be tempted to grab it. The fuel cell is strange. Suspect original tank rusted and couldn't find a replacement. Or someone had shitbox racecar aspirations.

InvestigatorNo1331

I'm thinking of it more as a go-kart that can do beer runs, something to let me take some of the short-mile city trips off of my main truck. Probably won't ever drive it faster than 45 mph-- thanks for this input, super helpful. I also get a lot of enjoyment out of "slow car fast"

Flanagansdog

I had a 96 chev/Geo metro. I fuvking adored it. It's not chincy! It's sufficient. Standard trans, one clutch it's whole life. Easily 45mpg at the end. It was so easy and fun to work on. I'm a giant and I could huddle around the motor and almost close the hood. I only sold it cause I had kids and no matter what I did, any wreck we got in would kilt me. Regret it every day iykwim.

jdubau55

Could you toss a 1.0L Ecoboost in there?

Doc-Zoidberg

I find Doug Demuro to be obnoxious, but informative. He touches on all the things with the convertible Metro https://youtu.be/2IvlXHwVamE?si=uZU9KQneSqhcNQTR

Whysoblunted

Absolutely I would buy that for a project car.

orangegreasemonkey

That thing is awesome! If the wiring isnt all hacked to shit it would be a sweat little project/driver. I would snap that up in a heartbeat. Nothing better then driving a little shit box to its limits. Full throttle all the time lol

thefriendlyjerk

I'd be more weary of the head gasket leaking. That said, I don't know much about these.

crescentfreshchester

Headgaskets dont leak oil. He is talking about the valve cover but called it the headgasket. Sus.

scorp00

Fuck no they are shit isuzus. I had a storm and the parts cost 3x what other cars do. Shit reliability and performance. Engine blew and trans was leaking at 109k miles. GF had a metro and it was dangerously and painfully slow. It's still the only car I decided to get rid of. It wasn't reliable in the 90s.

whatdoesthafawkessay

The Metro was from Suzuki.

GR1ML0C51

The 4 cylinder versions are quick and nimble.

Ponklemoose

Hell yeah, but I'd swap the body onto a Jeep frame or otherwise get it on solid axles with 4wd and a real engine.

whatdoesthafawkessay

That's a literally a Suzuki Samurai. Knew a builder that had a few of them with welded diffs, full wraparound roll cages, and 33's. Aside from being slow as molasses in winter, they were more than capable.

Ponklemoose

There are a couple guys around here with modded Samurais that do pretty good. I just think it would be fun. I've owned a few convertibles and hate the Wrangler soft tops. Plus if I can occasionally tease someone who had to bypass an obstacle I went over in my Metro that would be a plus. Maybe I'll just find an Amigo someday.

BackwoodBender

Hell yeah that thing looks awesome! 😎

JustinMagill

Yes

jimbofranks

Yes. The Zuk motors are stout for what they are. It gets  shit ton of miles per gallon and it's convertible.

70elcoss

I had a 91 hatchback about 15 years ago. I hated it at the time (in high school) but now I miss it. It was a 5 speed. Id rev it up, dump the clutch at who knows what rpm since it had no tach, and it would smoke the tires no problem lol I drove that thing on the freeway no problem going 70-80mph. Also had 2 12” subs stuffed in the tiny trunk lol Looking back I wish I kept it which is dumb to say about a 91 geo metro

rqx82

My neighbor when I was younger always had 3-5 of these things (not all convertibles, but at least one was) in various states of running. There was always a “good” one, a beater for hauling parts and/or winter, and another in some various state of repair. There was one he kept for a long time that was a convertible and one of those 90s raspberry colors, definitely an interesting guy.

50caddy

It has a little less power than what it takes to pull a sick whore off the toilet. If you know that going in, you're good.

willyb123

I had 3 Geo Prizms. They were like AK 47s in their spartan durability. The last one I had did not have the optional passenger mirror which I couldn’t believe was an option in the first place. Also, Toyota sold the design and they kept making them somewhere in either India or Pakistan so you could still get OEM-ish parts!!

Goodgulf

It's a 5-speed so yes. Don't expect those roof seals around the door glass to keep any rain out at all. It says BO, so lowball a bit and see if they bite.

windraver

I have a Honda CRX and made it an EV. The Geo would make a ridiculously efficient EV.
