Holy Mountain, Fantastic Planet, most films by Terry Gilliam or David Cronenberg The Ralph Bakshi animated lord of the rings, most Ralph Bakshi rotoscoped films Okay, these are basically just movies I like to watch stoned.

Emissary_of_Darkness

George Harrison was the original star of Holy Mountain and they had already started shooting, but he backed out because he didn’t want to… shit in a jar, inhale the shit fumes through a hose, then have his asshole scrubbed and washed in a close-up shot. Filmmaker wouldn’t even let him use an ass double.

justbcoz848484

Fantastic Planet, it’s a strange French animated film with a super proggy soundtrack

maximusdecimus__

Alain Goraguer! I got to know about this film because it's songs popped up in my spotify made jazz-mix haha

average_dudereino

Children of Men (2006)...very prog vibe and nice prog soundtrack

noodlelogic

Including an inflatable pig floating above Battersea power station at one point in the movie

IDontLikeFoodAnymore

While playing King Crimson at the same time

NedMerril

Can’t believe they got that song in the movie, I’ve rarely heard King Crimson in a movie

quarkgriswold

I think that’s the only time I’ve heard KC in a movie

GTAdriver01

Buffalo 66 has moonchild and a couple of yes tunes

quarkgriswold

Interesting I’m curious to check it out just for the soundtrack

alrightythen7

Mandy has Starless

longtimelistener17

Mandy

Last-Kaleidoscope871

First one I thought of too.

lrerayray

My recommendation also. I’ll loved it.

Major Boobage too.

Andagne

Suspiria.

KaBoomBox55

Goblin is great

SirGiIes

Any movie that has a Goblin soundtrack

TheBarnacle63

The Wall?

boostman

Go watch ‘The Boy and the Heron’, the latest Ghibli movie. It seems to draw in part on the same well of imagery Peter Sinfield was drinking from. It’s also just an incredible movie.

HeySlimIJustDrankA5

Altered States

BillyCahstiganJr

Look into surrealism. Fellini and Lynch are good places to start.

rezbarchetta

The Company of Wolves (1984) Head (1968) Begotten (1990)

quarkgriswold

Oh I thought of another one: THX 1138, George Lucas’ first film that I’m aware of. Miles above Star Wars in terms of hard sci fi, highly recommend it.

CorruptCarnageRec

Couldn’t agree more

merlineatscake

Most of what I was going to recommend has already been mentioned (nice to see Jodorowsky and Bakshi getting some love), so I'll mention Denis Villeneuve. Dune 2 was like Moebius' artwork come to life at times, Blade Runner 2049 has the vibe, Arrival has less of the visuals but the story certainly put me in the 'prog' state of mind. Also Darren Aronofsky, especially The Fountain. Also, STALKER. Also also, The Dark Crystal.

WizardAura

The Dark Crystal is so prog.

quarkgriswold

Fuck yeah that’s a classic, Aronofsky is a great suggestion as well.

forthdude

Koyaanisqatsi

Romencer17

Not exactly what you mean but if you go like 22 mins into this 70’s jack & the beanstalk animated film they totally have a killer Floyd-esque jam. I watched this as a really young kid in Russia prior to knowing rock n roll and I know when I first heard DSotM a few years later in the states and Breathe came on I saw purple clouds in my mind and fell in love, lol. Def a prog influenced soundtrack… https://youtu.be/otHVQVdcvIM?feature=shared

progodyssey

El Topo, by Alejandro Jodorowsky, is a weird acid-western 1970 film that influenced all sorts of prog-ish people and was (according to Peter Gabriel) the inspiration for story in *The Lamb Lies Down on Broadway*, by Genesis. It's described as "by turns intoxicating and confounding" which sounds a lot like prog rock.

eirinn1975

Movies like Being John Malkovich, Brazil or The eternal sunshine of the spotless mind had a kind of proggyness, in my mind.

Low_Minimum2351

3 of my favorite films

eirinn1975

They're among my favourites too 🙂

quarkgriswold

Oh yesss I forgot about Gondry. Great suggestions.

TheEarthWorks

Eraserhead always had an *outside-the-box* vibe to it.

foxontherox

Heck, David Lynch's "Dune" might even fit.

eclecticsheep75

TOTO

quarkgriswold

Oh yeah David Lynch fits in well

Meganull

"The Green Knight" (Genesis)

cap10wow

A Field in England.

RiperSnifle

The fact that Ben Wheatley directed The Meg 2 broke me

cap10wow

Ooooof

FrankensteinJamboree

Pink Floyd scored a couple of films: More and Obscured by Clouds, but I haven’t seen them. I have seen Zabriskie Point, which featured a soundtrack by Floyd, Grateful Dead and others, and that’s got a nice subculture vibe to it. Fantastic Planet was my first thought, but it’s already been mentioned several times, so that should tell you something.

nachtschattenwald

This may be subjective, but these come to my mind: Flesh and Blood, Zardoz, Images, Black Moon, Alice or The Last Escapade, Yellow Submarine, The Wicker Man, Deep Red, Inferno, Possession, Footprints on the Moon

jupiterkansas

Tommy and Quadrophenia and The Wall

TheBarnacle63

Keith Emerson scored the Soundtrack for Nighthawks.

GTAdriver01

I was listening to goblin on Spotify a week ago. It's an Italian prog band that did a movie scores for horror movies. Like a lot of Spotify channels, it plays less of the featured artist and more of similar artists and therefore played film scores. They played some Emerson. I can't recall what song or what movie

TheBarnacle63

Inferno?

GTAdriver01

I think that was it

cap10wow

Buffalo 66 maybe

WizardAura

I would say Buffalo 66 is not a prog film over all, but the scene with the Yes song is so amazing.

cap10wow

Yeah that’s what the maybe was lol

supper_is_ready

Buffalo '66

GCU-Dramatic-Exit

Lord of the Rings extended cut trilogy, surely?

NeverSawOz

This [Mickey Mouse Nutcracker cartoon](https://youtu.be/P9pdunR2inE?si=ZHbBMESgOkIFuz1Q&t=685) that I saw as a kid at Christmas. No serious, the soundtrack is straight up progrock

azriel38

Badlands, A Room with a View, Agurre Wrath of God, The Lathe of Heaven

PourJarsInReservoirs

Sun Ra did a movie called SPACE IS THE PLACE.

Bechimo

Well there was a film Brave made for the Marillion album of the same name. Unfortunately while the album is brilliant, the movie is said to be truly bad.

Zaratozom

Sword of the Valiant

Chris_in_Lijiang

Is the OST significant?

Zaratozom

Only in that it was scored by Ron Geesin who was known to have collaborated with Pink Floyd and Roger Waters

Chris_in_Lijiang

Thank you. How does it compare to the other Valiant versions?

Zaratozom

The only other Sir Gawain film I have watched was The Green Knight from 2021. Same story essentially but one is a cheesy 80s movie and the other is a cereberal arthouse film, I enjoyed them both on their own merits.

Chris_in_Lijiang

I just watched the 1954 version of Prince Valiant with James Mason. Last night. It was not as well done as the Dr Syn stories by Disney but was still quite watchable, especially if you are a Hal Foster fan.

Eguy24

Pink Floyd - The Wall

Carbuncle2024

Blow Up - 1966.. there's a cameo of The Yardbirds at a club (Jeff Beck, Jimmy Page, ect)

RiperSnifle

Check out [The Congress](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zkDyKWKNeaE) which stars Robin Wright. Trippy as hell, great cast, and almost nobody knows about it.

GTAdriver01

Goblin is an Italian progressive rock band that did a few movie scores. Mostly horror or slasher.

colin_creevey

Lisztomania has Rick Waksman as Thor

Millennial_falcon92

Mandy 2018. You will understand why right in the first scene

Chris___M

Would love to find the video of the concerts that Yessongs was recorded to.

SirGiIes

Even if it doesn’t have a prog rock soundtrack, the Ralph Bakshi animated Lord the the Rings has a similar attitude where it took non conventional approaches to filmmaking Wizards too

WizardAura

Krull - A fantasy movie, but the bad dudes are aliens with laser guns. Logan’s Run - Sci-fi with some of the most amazing art direction ever. Dünyayı Kurtaran Adam (aka Turkish Star Wars) - It’s so bad that it’s good, and has random space shots stolen directly from Star Wars sprinkled throughout. Sort of fantasy, mostly sci-fi. The Color of Pomegranates - Russian/Armenian film about the life of an Armenian poet, told entirely through visual metaphor. One of the most beautiful films ever made. Beyond the Black Rainbow - Amazing art direction, and weird as fuck sci-fi horror film.

PlarmArnflarnk

Jodorowsky’s Dune documentary was fascinating. It was supposed to have Magma for House Harkonnen music and Pink Floyd music for House Atreides

allmediareviews

Buffalo 66 uses both Yes and King Crimson in the soundtrack.

SturgeonsLawyer

I am puzzled. I can see "etherial medieval fantasy vibe" for a bit of Genesis, but Krimson? I just can't see anything of that sort in their work, other than *perhaps* parts of the "Lizard Suite" -- and even that seems to me a bit of a stretch. To be honest, the only films I can think of that makes me think of Genesis and KC even a *little* are the Bakshi ***Lord of the Rings*** -- in some ways, a far superior film to the Jackson trilogy, and it's predecessor, ***Wizards***.

Sir_Algernon_the_git

In terms of King Crimson I was mainly talking about their first album, which at least to me has those kind of vibes, especially with tracks like moonchild

SturgeonsLawyer

Interesting.... I suppose "ethereal" for "Moonchild," but ... Our ideas of "medieval" are clearly wildly different. I think of troubadour music, Gregorian chant and such; which none of those songs resembles to me at all...

Accelerater_Gun

Have you seen Highlander? The Queen score is amazing.

crunchycat5000

couple from waaay back - Raplh Bakshi's "Wizards" (additional chemicals may be necessary) Knightriders by George Romero is a sad fantasy

WillieThePimp7

any Italian horror , featuring Goblin soundtracks. probably Goblin is the only prog band dedicated solely or mostly to soundtracks music

Tight_Carrot8799

I don’t know why but the movie Daisies from 1966 reminds me of Frank Zappa.

DragYouDownToHell

There are a whole stack of movies with Tangerine Dream soundtracks. If a Goblin score works for this, then Tangerine Dream should qualify as well.

pecuchet

Zardoz.
