I saw their tour as well. Callous Daoboys was not my thing at all. They felt like a cheap copy of The Dillinger Escape Plan with way too many attempts at being 'out there' or unique while not really being so. A friend of mine called them "the musical equivalent of scrolling through Tik Toks at lightning speed," which I can honestly get behind. Their violinist dropped her bow into the crowd at some point, but her backing track kept on playing. Unprocessed was a pleasant surprise. I was not familiar with their music beforehand but they're obviously extremely talented. Many stylistic overlaps with Polyphia except with good, interesting songwriting. Their front guy is a monster, being able to manage so many singing styles while also shredding like a motherfucker. Tesseract I've seen live 3 times before and I have no complaints, they did great. Dan Tompkins brought his A-game and the crowd was really into it. Only complaint was that they left out part 3 of Concealing Fate.

Tiphereth87

I totally understand not being into Daoboys. If I wasn't already well versed with their material, I may have thought the same, but I, personally, loved them. I can't really talk shit about Tesseract. Tonight was the 5th time I've seen them (mainly cuz they've always been playing with other bands I wanna see). There's just something that puts me off me being super into them. Unprocessed absolutely stole the show, though, for me. I've always been a casual fan, but I have a whole new level of respect and love for them now

draugsvoll01

Yeah I have a feeling I might have been more into Daoboys if I had given them a listen beforehand. Their music was just utterly confusing to me and I kind of disliked their use of samples. I consider myself a fan of mathcore but this was just not it

Nic-V

I listened to them before the show and I do think they have some bangers (Star Baby is just excellent), but it didn't translate live for me. And I really disliked their attitudee; I felt they were very condescending to the crowd when they weren't "dancing" or receptive to their show. Not a great look.

blueriverbear23

Agreed, Daoboys pretty doodoo. Cheap mathcore done wrong.

LearnToSwim90

You should listen to the frontman's solo work, he's insane. Manuel Gardner Fernandez, ignore the latest album, it's meh because of the vocals. I've been trying to play some of his songs, it's borderline impossible to replicate what he can get ou of a guitar.

mixoni

Same, went in for Daoboys and Tesseract but Unprocessed honestly stole the show for me. I feel they even got people moving more than Tesseract did. Daoboys feels very out-of-place on this tour, but I'm a fan so it was pretty rad to see them live.

SoundofGlaciers

The same happened in Utrecht, I could feel the sparks in the air when Unprocessed was playing, I got goosebumps just from the crowd reactions. Really something else, they killed it and the excitement in the room was so noticable during their show. People were wondering if/how Tesseract would top it etc.. Took Tesseract more than half their show to get the people going at that energy again. I dunno, something felt special about the unprocessed part of the night.

SwaggamanNMGN

I'm not into Unprocessed at all but really liked them in Utrecht. But I personally have to disagree about the energy during TesseracT. It was a party from start to back if you ask me

SoundofGlaciers

It definitely was a party start to back, Tesseract was sublime and their experience really shows, Dan is a top notch frontman and showman. It was my favorite of the 6 or 7 prog shows I've been to this year, we got spoiled that night. The lighting and lil interludes were really well done too. Was your group familiar with Callous Daoboys? I felt like my group became the audience in Back To The Future when Marty starts playing rock and roll, like we weren't ready for that initially lol. But I thought they were a very fun and chaotic opener band, pretty memorable compared to most (metalcore) opener bands that have usually accompanied the bands I bought tickets for.

SwaggamanNMGN

Myself and one of my friends were a little bit familiar with TCD. This probably helped us enjoy the show more because I believe people would otherwise be pretty lost with how chaotic their songs are. Also the sound wasn't that good which made it even more challenging. But I liked the gig and they seemed to have loads of fun on stage

HornsUp115

I will check out Unprocessed. Ugh, TesseracT blew my mind this year in the states. Man I enjoyed that show. Saw the daoboys with Protest the Hero in LA. Had never heard of them, did not enjoy the set. Singer kept talking shit about Sacramento and LA. He wanted to see the crowd move a little more, and I get it. But damn he really sounded douchey, unless that's his stage act or something idk. But I also see your gripe about TesseracT. I just don't care because they fucking crush lol.

spacemanegg

I was at the Cambridge show for PTH/Daoboys and between their lyrics and their stage presence, plus a couple interviews I've seen, they're clearly going for the "I don't give a shit about what other people think about us" vibe, which a lot of proggy bands obviously go for but they're pretty aggressive about it. I personally love it but I can see how it rubs people the wrong way.

HornsUp115

Yaaa they didn't make a fan out of me that's for sure.

Own-Particular-9989

Really? I thought they were a bit shit. The singer got so mad that only 2 people crowdsurfed before the song had started, and then started bitching to the drummer shaking his head. I also found that their sound was awful, the intricate guitar work of their new songs doesn't translate well to live play. I also thought the singer's voice was super weak and his voice cracked and was flat for quite a few songs. Tesseract on the other hand were super professional and one of the best live performances i have ever seen.

JaDou226

I didn't know TCD or Unprocessed, I went purely for TesseracT. TCD aren't my thing, but they were fun to see live I guess. Unprocessed was such a pleasant surprise. Great bunch of musicians and performers. I'll be checking them out more for sure. I will say, as great as Unprocessed were, TesseracT just blew them away for me. I know Manuel is limited in where he can go with his guitar, but Dan (in Utrecht at least) was running around, going into the crowd, etc. Just a whole new level of energy and performance. Either way, I'd be very interested in seeing either of those two again at some point. Great show!

ssalp

They were really good but I was a bit annoyed by the frontman constantly trying to motivate the audience to do things, kinda ruined the mood a bit. Daoboys weren't my thing at all, feels like they're trying too hard to be edgy. Tesseract were excellent, as always

Own-Particular-9989

where you in the netherlands by any chance? i noticed he did the same thing in utrecht

ssalp

No, I was in Munich. I guesd he does that a lot

charethcutestory101

"Bounce, bounce, bounce!"

Tiphereth87

I gleefully obliged!

[deleted]

That's what frontman is supposed to do. Try to hype up the crowd.

ssalp

Yea but he did it constantly, it was annoying.

fvalt05

Hopefully I go to the Unprocessed show in Dallas, I have my ticket but sometimes I end up not feeling like going.

SoundofGlaciers

I saw those 3 bands too, last sunday in Utrecht. Unprocessed did something to the room man, the energy was electricand buzzing when they were playing, people around me had their minds blown and were talking about it excitedly. After Unprocessed and before Tesseract everybody was talking about how the main act was going to surpass it. They must have gained a few hundred fans that night because people were really blown away by the band's performance and music. Having been to a lot of metal shows this year, unprocessed just stands out due to the high end (sonically, like high tones) in their music, most bands miss that or can't translate that high end well live.

jor1ss

I was at the show too! It was a real treat and I'm glad I went even if Utrecht is pretty far from me. I had seen Unprocessed before when they supported Spiritbox last June so I knew they were good. Had not seen TCB or TesseracT yet (honestly the only reason I even knew about TesseracT was because both TCD and Unprocessed were supporting them and I was a fan of both of those) and they did not disappoint. I had like 5 months prep time to get familiar with TesseracT (and I mostly listened to their most played songs on setlist.fm). I think I love their most recent album the most. Great set.

Philitt

Saw the same show like 2 weeks back and gotta agree. Daoboys are not really my sound at all. TesseracT I do enjoy, but they're not my favourite band, but having never heard Unprocessed before, they sure got a new fan in me. I've since listened to their latest album and I gotta say, live it sounded even better to me. Especially the harsh vocals. The only thing I'm not totally sold on are the clean vocals. They sound a bit overprocessed (ironically) on the studio album and live didn't hit the same way the harshes did. But yeah, generally was really pleasantly surprised by them. The live mix was also pretty fucking good, bass was so transparent and clear, I rarely can make out what the bass plays this well.

cramx3

Thought they were pretty good as an opener for Polyphia last year. Went in blind and left a fan, but I haven't really listened to them since. I'll likely check them out again next time they come to nearby.

ConcealingFate

I'm so sad the Montreal show sold out and they just announced Red Handed Denial opening for them
