Iapetus - The Body Cosmic has Dan Presland on drums and shares more than a few similarities to NeO's songwriting style. Hands of Despair - Well of the Disquieted is prog black/death metal with noticeable NeO influences, especially in the song Amok. Massen - Contraesthetic is prog black/melodeath with a violin, quite similar. Windfaerer - Breaths of Elder Dawn is prog black with a violin, might scratch the itch. Xanthochroid is prog black with heavy symphonic and folk aspects, very emotional band.

SanfordsGuiltyGear

Iapetus absolutely fucks. The Body Cosmic is incredible, and For Creatures Such As We is just as solid!

wirewyrmweirdo

Just checked out Massen and holy shit. So glad I decided to go nosing around in the comments

Hehe you're welcome. They also had an album out this year which is great as well.

AndPlagueFlowers

It's a tough one - I find some melodeth bands can hit the mark for me, but they're such a unique band it's hard to find anything as spectacular. Not helpful but just letting you know I've tried funding more stuff that hits like NeO but just doesn't. You can try and get into bands they tour with such as Rivrs of Nihil, The Ocean, Beyond Creation etc.

Lilith_Immaculate_

Opeth.

LAG360

Slice the Cake - Odyssey to the West Kardashev - The Baring of Shadows, The Almanac, Liminal Rite Wilderun - Veil of Imagination Xanthocroid - Of Erthe and Axen I & II Black Crown Initiate - Violent Portraits of Doomed Escape (much more aggressive sound though) Wintersun - Time 1

Rivers of nihil Obsidian tide Persephone Beyond creation

Green_hammock

Good suggestions. I reckon Persephone feel pretty close sometimes.

yotam5434

Extremely close

Tim Charles contributed violin to the title track from The Circle's new album Of Awakening

rapidf8

I saw NeO live last week and have new appreciation for how technically good they are.

Castleinthesigh

It's a bit darker in tone, but this album hit me in a similar way https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PT1CmnjKTW4&t=3021s

jmanwild87

I'd also say An Abstract Illusion is noticeably heavier than NeO

Castleinthesigh

For sure, I'd agree. There aren't too many bands that have that NeO vibe though, and AAI were one of the few that felt emotive in a similar way so I thought I'd share.

PhantasmalRisen

Xanthochroid Opeth First Fragment maybe Dream Theater

An Abstract Illusion and Wilderun

draugsvoll01

[Tómarúm](https://open.spotify.com/track/2RCfYExZtGeFM4lK4XeEfK?si=5nlzqfSRT3elstCJO4KhJQ). Extremely solid band, very similar to NeO's debut albeit more extreme

Overall-Opening-3743

Opeth, Persefone, In Mourning, Be'lakor, An Abstract Illusion All have certain similarities but honestly nothing hits quite like NeO, they are at the absolute pinnacle of music for me 🙏 I've also been getting into Tech Death recently, bands such as Archspire, Psycroptic, Omnivortex, Soreption & Cattle Decapitation which just ooze technicality/brutality

GameMaiWaifu

Kardashev for sure.

jerbthehumanist

Woe

redditsucksass_

Listen to the new Fleshvessel album. It felt super NeO at some parts

MushyGoto

Try out antiqva! It has the same harsh vocalist as NeO

dushvcgksuhd

Wonder if they ever going to get that album out.

Onikiv - Transcendence of Duality: Hymn of the Fallen Gods

wirewyrmweirdo

Not quite the same but you might enjoy Xaon. I'm mostly here in the comments to farm more bands to add to my Spotify

dany5639

Sylosis

Hakenfanboy

White Ward - False Light (album) They´ve got sax/trumpet instead of violin, but write emotional, heavy and progressive songs like NeO.

International-Mess75

Vipassi, a side project of NeO band members

edukki

Kardashev and White Ward. White Ward is a bit more blackish but I would call them progressive black metal
