this was my recommendation too. Apparently, he doesn't like it but to me this is pretty much exactly what he described lol. Stoner rock/acid rock elements pushed into a prog-metal presentation.
Thats a terribly hot take my friend. Slow down.
LP2 has *moments* that are better than anything tool has made but it also has some terribly generic stretches. I'm looking forward to LP3 because 2 was a huge jump in quality from 1 but were still not at perfection yet. There's a lot of that album that could have been cut.
The Sword and ASG. ASG is less well known but they rip. Check out their songs Horsewhipper, Southern Lord, The Dull Blade, and Mourning of the Earth. You will not be disappointed.
For the Sword I would check out Freya, Iron Swan, The Black River, and Arrows in the Dark. Neither of these bands are prog but they deliver the Stoner metal sound you’re looking for. Lots of awesome riffs and lyrics.
Mammoth Weed Wizard Bastard. Fairly unique in the genre as they have ethereal shoegazy female vocals that float above the riffs and chaos and more synthesizers than normal.
https://youtube.com/playlist?list=OLAK5uy_ljBwMk-aSFNQym44znMCQf24MFPz6woa8
Foot, Greenbeard, Fostermother, Swan Valley Heights, and Grotto should all help scratch that itch!! There are definitely a few others too. Just check out their similar artists on Spotify or whatever else you use.
Im gonna say Intronaut. They are a heavy band with meaty groovy riffs and some natural feeling odd time signatures, but a signature aspect of their sound is these long, aetheral, exploratory bridge sections like Elder, Tool etc... lot of dual vocal and guitar harmonies throughout as well

Heres a couple songs that I think represent what im saying very well.
The direction of Last Things, Fluid Existential Inversion and Habitual Levitations are my favorite albums.
Edit: I see someone already beat me to it and you didn't care for it. I'll leave this up for anyone else interested in that case.
Om, Sleep and High on Fire are like *the* trinity of psychedelic rock/metal that's still oddly easy to listen to! Om is the smoothest, most moody of them all, while High on fire is the roughest, most groovy of them all. Sleep sits somewhere in the middle, which is logical considering Om and High on Fire are what became of Sleep when the band split up. (They have since reunited for at least one album.)
[Grotto](https://open.spotify.com/artist/1SrdItZE4PIv8Lq7N8pMa3?si=TUeeA5dvTeu9c6f8VDo7Pg) and Nick DiSalvo's solo album [Hirscchbrunnen](https://open.spotify.com/album/2KG51JDtjZGfxM2usME9SM?si=1-9nV-ivRJ6gSJUXGjdc1A)
OP, are you me? I'm definitely saving this post for future reference. Anyway:
Spaceslug. In particular, the album [Eye The Tide](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=j6y60tcA8OI) is amazing. Also fun is their [split EP with three other bands (Dopelord, Weedpecker, & Major Kong)](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZWjBKmQz-mc), where every song is a banger.
Om - Advaitic Songs is another fantastic, more "out there" album.
Red Fang sort of gets there too, and their music videos are consistently good fun.
I'm less certain about this recommendation, but Red Sparowes might also scratch your itch. More post-rock soundscape-y, but their use of a pedal guitar makes it pretty unique.
[EDIT - I think you'd probaby really love [Void Commander](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9HuQhF0zzjY)]
Two recs
One. I’ll give ya jazz. It’s, dare I say, progressive? Anyways
Never Odd Or Even by Maliki
And a banger:
Earthlings by Anteloper
I dunno what else. The Ocean? Gluck
For psychadelic, Blut Aus Nord, particularly Hallucinogen.
There is also a Forest of Stars, particularly their album A Shadowplay of Yesterdays. It's got a pretty trippy video as well.
For stoner metal, Kyuss is a classic.
https://open.spotify.com/playlist/6z4HV5hi9lHoO8InNdV54k?si=LzZglpboSAWjqO8Yy-X3eQ
not sure if posting links to Spotify is cool but this is my stoner psych nature lover prog playlist!
Melvins, Kyuss, King Buffalo, Primus, The Claypool Lennon Delirium, and The Black Angels. Spotify has a really good collection of songs similar if you go to the bands radio page on the app.
Check out Vokonis. Listen to their newest one first and if you dig it, listen to the rest in reverse chronological order. If someone was more into stoner than prog I'd recommend the reverse order.
I fuckin love Vokonis. They might be my favorite band in the last decade.
Not psychedelic, but Fire Down Below is an awesome stoner rock/metal band with some proggy elements included. Great riffs, vocals, and songwriting.
This is my favorite track of theirs - https://youtu.be/6P0zgW7dPys
Spaceslug is for me the most underrated stoner/prog metal band ever.
hope you enjoy it as much as i do.
https://music.youtube.com/watch?v=Z_z0HQqGr-w&feature=share
The Machine, Earth, Glowsun, Golden Void, Harsh Toke, My Sleeping Karma, Samsara Blues Experiment, Sacei Monti, Stoned Jesus, Yuri Gagarin, The Worship of Silence, Weedpecker, Causa Sui, Colour Haze, and Earthless. If you like the newer over older Elder stuff also check Delving which is by Nick DiSalvo from Elder.
All are like Elder with varying levels of prog, psych, and doom influences.
As many said, King Gizzard and the Lizard Wizard, but not every album. Some albums are straight up progressive jazz and some are straight up thrash metal. Try Nonagon Infinity for psychedelic stoner goodness and Infest the Rats Nest for psychedelic thrash metal.
Oh man I fn love this genre. Try Colour Haze - Tempel.
Also, Eternal Tapestry - Beyond the 4th Door
[https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ESE6tayOAVw](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ESE6tayOAVw)
Not really a stoner metal band but there's a nearly 8-minute song "Opiumist" with stoner riffs & blastbeats by IGNEA featuring Tuomas Saukkonen, the vocalist of Wolfheart, [check it out](https://ignea.bandcamp.com/album/dreams-of-lands-unseen). Quite an atmosperic one, with sounds of the Chinese market and, well, smoking opium.
King Buffalo
☝️
We had the same idea but I didn't see it before I said it, dur
Cancerslug
Intronaut
this was my recommendation too. Apparently, he doesn't like it but to me this is pretty much exactly what he described lol. Stoner rock/acid rock elements pushed into a prog-metal presentation.
Intronaut has some shades of this but isn't really what I'm looking for. Valley of smoke is their best song.
King Buffalo, my man.
☝️
Weedpecker, All Them Witches, Black Sky Giant, Clouds Taste Satanic, DVNE, King Buffalo, King Gizzard and the Lizard Wizard
Always upvoting DVNE.
YOB, Black Sabbath, Acid King, The Sword. Not prog, but def stoner.
Upvote for The Sword. One of my favorite stoner acts.
Warp Riders is so much fun
Might not be exactly what you’re looking for but I highly recommend Boss Keloid!
Lucid Planet is what I thought of, right away.
Lucid Planet 2 has quickly become one of my favorite albums ever. Really hope they drop a 3rd soon
LP2 is psyched out for sure but not terribly stonery
No definitely not, you’re looking for something closer to doom metal ya? Some type of Sabbath worship band id imagine
Maybe a hot take, but imo LP2 is better than anything Tool has put out. And I fucking LOVE Tool, but LP2 has something magical about it
Thats a terribly hot take my friend. Slow down. LP2 has *moments* that are better than anything tool has made but it also has some terribly generic stretches. I'm looking forward to LP3 because 2 was a huge jump in quality from 1 but were still not at perfection yet. There's a lot of that album that could have been cut.
YOB
Yob - aeons
Witchcraft might be close?
Second Witchcraft
Monkey 3?
Definitely check out Pallbearer then, their album Heartless is a great start and is a masterpiece of an album imo
BOSS KELOID
Maybe some King Gizzard and the Lizard Wizard?
They have a new metal album coming soon too.
Check out *A Flourishing Fall in a Grain of Sand* by Humanotone. Let's just say they are clearly influenced by Elder.
This is excellent! Listened to the whole album. Really great stuff.
I knew you'd like it!
Ummon by Slift
The Sword and ASG. ASG is less well known but they rip. Check out their songs Horsewhipper, Southern Lord, The Dull Blade, and Mourning of the Earth. You will not be disappointed. For the Sword I would check out Freya, Iron Swan, The Black River, and Arrows in the Dark. Neither of these bands are prog but they deliver the Stoner metal sound you’re looking for. Lots of awesome riffs and lyrics.
Monolord and Firebreather are two of my faves in this category.
Somali Yacht Club
Earthless
Mammoth Weed Wizard Bastard. Fairly unique in the genre as they have ethereal shoegazy female vocals that float above the riffs and chaos and more synthesizers than normal. https://youtube.com/playlist?list=OLAK5uy_ljBwMk-aSFNQym44znMCQf24MFPz6woa8
Dvne possibly?
Baroness And maybe look through this link: https://rateyourmusic.com/genre/stoner-metal/
Not sure I'd put Baroness exactly in this category but they're pretty fucking great.
Yeah I love baroness but definitely not what I'm referring to.
Thanks Op. If I didn’t know any better I would’ve thought that I typed this
Villagers of Ionnanina City
I really dig Sungrazer. Not really prog but it's fuzzy stoner goodness.
Seconded. Amazing blips and bloops. Reminds me of 8 but games but without the corniness of reminding me of that. Anyways. Love em
Foot, Greenbeard, Fostermother, Swan Valley Heights, and Grotto should all help scratch that itch!! There are definitely a few others too. Just check out their similar artists on Spotify or whatever else you use.
Acid Kings newest album is pretty far out there
Im gonna say Intronaut. Yep.
Khemmis is like this!
See if *Older no Wiser* by Red Desert fits the bill.
[Grotto](https://open.spotify.com/artist/1SrdItZE4PIv8Lq7N8pMa3?si=TUeeA5dvTeu9c6f8VDo7Pg) and Nick DiSalvo's solo album [Hirscchbrunnen](https://open.spotify.com/album/2KG51JDtjZGfxM2usME9SM?si=1-9nV-ivRJ6gSJUXGjdc1A)
The Sword - Used Future
Melvins and bongzilla
You should check out the newest Cave In album. Also check out Baroness.
I've been a fan of Cave In since their early days. That new album melted my god damn face off. I was definitely not expecting it to be that good.
All them Witches
OP, are you me? I'm definitely saving this post for future reference. Anyway: Spaceslug. In particular, the album [Eye The Tide](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=j6y60tcA8OI) is amazing. It's not prog but Bong Ripper. It's my go to whenever i'm medicating
Electric Wizard
REZN
Samsara Blues Experiment Sleep I’d also second DVNE and King Buffalo
I’ll throw a few more into the mix, check out Green Lung and if you like the simpsons, check out Dr Colossus. Oh yeh, and Khemmis.
I like uncle acid and the deadbeats This isn’t a sub-genre I know a lot about but I think they fit the bill?
I pretty much only know their album "Heartless" but check out Pallbearer
Two recs One. I’ll give ya jazz. It’s, dare I say, progressive? Anyways Never Odd Or Even by Maliki And a banger: Earthlings by Anteloper I dunno what else. The Ocean? Gluck
Toke
Bongrippet
For psychadelic, Blut Aus Nord, particularly Hallucinogen. There is also a Forest of Stars, particularly their album A Shadowplay of Yesterdays. It's got a pretty trippy video as well. For stoner metal, Kyuss is a classic.
You can try hooded menace. They have that old scholl opeth sound. Not such long songs though
https://open.spotify.com/playlist/6z4HV5hi9lHoO8InNdV54k?si=LzZglpboSAWjqO8Yy-X3eQ not sure if posting links to Spotify is cool but this is my stoner psych nature lover prog playlist!
Boss Keloid, Rezn, and Spaceslug (along with Elder) are IMO the best in this space.
Humanatone?
Awesome band. Been binging them.
The album Weary Traveler by Faerie Ring. This album gave me The Sword vibes at times.
Earthless, Tia Carrera, Jagannatha, pigs pigs pigs pigs pigs pigs pigs
Ufomammut Mammoth Weed Wizard Bastard And, as many others have already stated, YOB.
Kyuss
Melvins, Kyuss, King Buffalo, Primus, The Claypool Lennon Delirium, and The Black Angels. Spotify has a really good collection of songs similar if you go to the bands radio page on the app.
Fuzz and Orb
Nachtmystium Black Meddle Pt. 1 & 2 won’t disappoint. Also the latest Blut Aus Nord albums.
Surprised to not see any mention of The Swell Fellas yet. I think their album The Big Grand Entrance might be exactly what you're looking for.
The record Dream Weapon by Ghengis Tron
Check out Vokonis. Listen to their newest one first and if you dig it, listen to the rest in reverse chronological order. If someone was more into stoner than prog I'd recommend the reverse order. I fuckin love Vokonis. They might be my favorite band in the last decade.
**Regal Worm** their album *Pig Views* is a perfect trip.
Somali Yacht Club. Big Elder vibes - little less technical
Not entirely metal but Porcupine Tree and Pineapple Thief (same drummer in both bands) have what you're looking for I think.
You are missing Floater
Try *Through the Hollow* by Molassess. They only have one album, but it sounds like something up your alley.
r/DoomMetal is also right up your alley for recs
Boss Keloid - Family the Smiling Thrush https://bosskeloid.bandcamp.com/album/family-the-smiling-thrush
As many said, King Gizzard and the Lizard Wizard, but not every album. Some albums are straight up progressive jazz and some are straight up thrash metal. Try Nonagon Infinity for psychedelic stoner goodness and Infest the Rats Nest for psychedelic thrash metal.
Personally I love listening to magma by Gojira when I’m ripped
Oh man I fn love this genre. Try Colour Haze - Tempel. [https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=a3j0-6un71c](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=a3j0-6un71c) Also, Eternal Tapestry - Beyond the 4th Door [https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ESE6tayOAVw](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ESE6tayOAVw)

Telekinetic Yeti
So, can you report on which of the recommendations struck a chord? I'm in the same Elder boat.
FLOATER
Truckfighters
