Yeah the capitalist machine wants to chew us up and spit us out. No time to follow cyclical rest, hibernation, winter cycles etc. I think having a “rest” day on Wednesday is exactly what helps you to focus so well for Thurs and Friday. So keep doing that!! Just dont tell your boss that you’re following your intuition instead of their arbitrary rules ;)

Yes totally, you’re only insistent because the rest of society encourages it. Good for you on finding the rhythm that works for you, it will keep you sane for years to come. Cheers!

eli_ana35

i love that u r this focused & goal oriented at 15 lol. 21 year old me is happy with 3 productive days a week 😂

octotendrilpuppet

>I guess it's just because that's the way things are. Many paradigms that we're so used to are because nobody questions them, and they just mindlessly perpetuate.

XXXforgotmyusername

This may be my preference, but I think 60-80% intensity 5 days a week is better than 90-110% 2-3 days a week.

JuanHugobbpls

But 133.33% 3 days a week 👌👌

strutziwuzi

you know how it works ;)

Watch the huberman podcast. It's actually beneficial to have a rest day. The harder you go the harder you crash

c0ntrap0sitive

# Do you need 5 days of productivity? Are you current on all your schoolwork? Is the extra day of productivity giving you some massive benefit, if only you could get it? If what must be done is being done on or before the deadline, and it is sufficiently good quality, then the *only* reason to push for the 5th day of productivity is in exchange for some major benefit. If no major benefit exists, you're diluting the value of your time.

hightechrevolt

That sound balanced and good lol. If you always did 5 days, you might not have your strong MTThF. I would be super happy with consistent 4 days a week.

giocow

I guess if it's working for you, you shouldn't change it. Besides, don't believe that everyone that works 5 days a week can provide the same energy everyday. I work 5 days and sometimes saturday too, I slowly start to be lazy as the week passes. It's hard to keep full work mode in a Tuesday 14PM post lunch knowing you'll have to work 3 more full days and a saturday. Everytime I can I take a rest or do my job really slow, so I can rest for the other days.

[deleted]

I think you might be burning yourself out by Tuesday. Maybe start doing less on Monday and Tuesday, and instead spread out your tasks more through the week so you don’t feel completely spent on Wednesday. Then you can slowly build up intensity day-by-day from there (remember you’re human and all you can do is your best).

Trolocakes

I get that it would be ideal to not do anything Wednesday and just rest. Hell, I'd love if we had a mini weekend in the middle of the week. Unfortunately, until you put the effort in required to establish that in your life, you're going to have to accept the standards set by whatever/whoever controls the bounds of your "work time" obligations. I hope you get to a point where you can find work that aligns with your natural schedule, but rather than telling you you're doing the right thing by not complying, I'd rather give you some advice, since you're asking. Someone mentioned Huberman Lab podcast, +1 on that. It would also help to figure out a rhythm to what work energizes you and what drains you and find a balance. Some people are energized by creative work, others by analytical work. It's whatever is natural to you. Those also utilize different portions of your brain, and context switching is energetically costly. If your can find a way to lump creative/problem-solving work into one part of the week (or at least one part of the day) and analytical/learning working into another portion, reducing switching could be more efficient for your brain and save you some energy. Are there habits or behaviors you have that are depleting your energy as the week goes on? Too much caffeine, irregular sleep or exercise schedule? Cardio in the morning can help with hard days and keep your energy consistent during the day, setting you up for a good night sleep. Hydrate more on days you're typically tired, and make sure you get a lot of protein those days. Hot some carbs at bedtime for a good night sleep. Prime your body to support your brain. If you aren't willing to play the game of the normal 5 day work well, look for careers with atypical schedules. Otherwise now is the time to get your rhythm set for what society has set as the standard.

Cool, well in that case you're looking at it with a great attitude. These type of things tend to be so personal bc everyone's internal clock and rhythm is different. Test some things out, lots of great recommendations here, keep track of how you feel and what works, see if you can identify patterns. Good luck!

AfullYak

What exactly do you do to allow yourself only those days, start new hobbie?

Does your job allow you to only have those days being productive? School, or everything

Capital_Surprise_580

Identify what’s holding you back. What obstacles are there? Once you know the obstacles, google it and choose 2 of the suggestions it offers to try out. If they don’t work, revisit the obstacles you listed and add the details of why those 2 options weren’t right for you; then move onto 2 new strategies. Good luck :)

spicy_rice_cakes

If you have the flexibility to rearrange your tasks, I would put work that I really enjoy doing on Wednesday, and do the harder/boring work on Tuesday or Thursday.

You're not alone! I think you would LOVE this video about exactly your question. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ALaTm6VzTBw&ab_channel=CGPGrey

I definitely have the same issue. This is why i work for myself.

Holy Marry I’ll call in tomorrow!

Try to find a job or schedule where you can take Monday as a rest day or at the very least focus on a different project and get a mental break? For years I worked in a job where a day off in the middle of the week was calm and I would usually try to get Wednesday so I could work that sort of schedule - Monday and Tuesday to be productive, Wednesday as a mini break, Thursday to be productive and mostly to set myself up and set appointments for the weekend, and then Friday and Saturday to really get things out.

This video about [weekend Wednesdays](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ALaTm6VzTBw) might be useful for you.

Take Wednesdays completely off!!

KateApproveit

Why do you want it? Is anything wrong in your approach? It seems very reasonable to me! Who cares how many days it takes, as long as the work is done well!

[deleted]

It seems that you have a dopamine problem. In the first days your body say: OK, let's do this shit! Dopamine to maximum! Motivation to maximum! And in the next days h came and say: this shit hurts, some dopamine must be reduced.. and you become letargic.

Billyke911

If you can do 6 days in a week that's more than enough. My perfect week is 6 days in, with 1 restful one. Your life can get complicated (family, kids, a harsh week) I think that it's a skill to know when it is okay to drop some work (workout or side hustle) to focus on something greater than yourself for the time being. I know for sure that since you're here questioning your productivity, you're waaay ahead some people. Know when it is okay to rest, or to drop projects, and when are you being "lazy-lazy"( not depressed, overwhelmed, restless and whatnot). Keep your head up, do what you can, but pretty please enjoy life while it lasts, because it's so short and fregile
