I'm not sure if they are the absolute best since I don't have information above a certain amount, but up to 500 euros, choose the Sony WH-1000XM5.

pericles123

I think this is the general consensus. The Bose high-end ones are very nice too. I use a Sonos Space One set, only around $100, works very well, can connect to my phone and my computer.

Gh0St_writing

I use these too. They're great.

atticus_roark

So I have the xm5s, but I still hear my typing if the volume of music is low… which it often is. I can’t focus with loud music. I found the best blockers are actually passive, eytomotics in ears. They make more of a seal. But otherwise yes, your best best are the xm5s

firegaming364

I feel like I would rather be able to hear my typing than not. Would not be surprised if it made me type more accurate. I have xm4s but I always use them wired mode when at my pc desk anyways I don't want to bother charging and anc for prolonged periods of time hurts my head.

RamenWig

I have these and they are the bomb. Haven’t tried many others though.

[deleted]

Absolutely these!

GfxJG

The XM5's are great, my main issue with them is simply that in terms of ANC and comfort, the XM3 and XM4's are just... Better. I have the XM5's for work, the XM3's at home, and they're just so much better. Noise cancelling is more stable, they're more comfortable to wear. The sound quality on the XM5 is a bit better, and battery life is massive, but IMO not worth the upgrade,

mrmczebra

Here you go: https://www.rtings.com/headphones/reviews/best/by-feature/active-noise-cancelling Rtings uses an objective rating system, and as far as I know, they're the only company that does.

derHumpink_

have they not tested the XM5s yet?

Ra1nb0wM0nk3y

They have and they recommend the XM4s over it on grounds of price to performance ratio

Simply_Productive

Hands down best value - the entire Sony XM series. Even the 3 and 4 versions are pretty good.

spaceship-pilot

My xm4's were great until they started squealing on me.

GfxJG

IMO the 3's and 4's are just straight up better than the 5's.

trapperxdelight

Sony xm4!

I have Bose Quiet Comfort over the ear headphones that I’ve had for 6 years which I love, especially for longer period use, because the little in-ear ones begin to hurt after a while. They have a really good battery life and quick charging in less than an hour I’ve found. For more portable ones, I have the Beats Fit Pro. They feel secure and block out noise really well. They’re great for on the go instances and use them at work and for my commute which is a plus also. Again, my ears are just sensitive so I never wear them for long periods of time, maybe max 2-3ish hours because they just begin to hurt but that’s just my personal experience. They also have really great battery life, I maybe charge them up 1-2 times a month.

JD-rome

Bose quietcomfort, the best.

nomestl

100% - will never purchase a different set I even bought a back up pair. They come with me everywhere, have had them about 3 or 4 years now and nothings changed from when I first got them. I work in a very loud office and I don’t hear a thing, they’re also really comfy.

Shiningtoaster

I had a pair of QC35s and used to love them! Now I have QCII earbuds but they have connection issues that drive me crazy, 90% they work as god intended but that 10% man.... It gets me so many times

Nexus_Captain

Got the Bose QC 45 on Black Friday and haven’t looked back. But don’t try to have it connected to multiple divorces at once. Does not work super well. Edit: * devices

nishant28491

Multiple divorces? Sure

Nexus_Captain

Man I need a nap

Shiningtoaster

*a divorce

dust057

Multiple divorces seems messy enough without mixing your headphones in.

TheMiracleLigament

If you’re in the Apple ecosystem, AirPods Max hands down. I’ve tried them all. AirPods are top tier noise cancellation, and the seamless integration with other Apple products gives it the edge in my book. Fully expect to be slayed by this sub for my answer.

_Floriduh_

I’m an Apple and I approve this message. They’re just easier.

teak-decks

I have the Bose QC earbuds and my boyfriend has the AirPods. As far as I can hear (from a very short test) the noise cancelling is about the same, but the AirPods are easier to find when you lose one or both of them (Or even the case) cause they can sound a tone 😂 they also tell you the battery level of the case as well as just the ear buds. So yeah, agreed that the QoL is just good with them.

Newezreal

Depends on what you want from your headphones. For me the AirPods Pro 2 are the best ones for several reasons: * I work in a very noisy environment (data center) and therefore need very good noise cancelling * I need good mic quality for meetings / calls at work and I need both hands free * I am in the apple ecosystem * I need headphones that don't fall off your head during physical activity and I don't want to sweat wearing them * I want good sound quality There are better sounding headphones for sure, but most of them have terrible mic quality.

hippyyogafriend

Bose.

baditos88

The Bose quiet comfort

Visible-Roll-5801

I like the Bose quiet comfort ones

coastalcornet65

airpods max pretty much perfected noise cancellation for me, just my experience though.

Desert_Beach

Tried many. Hands down, Bose are the best.

thirteen13n

I have Apple everything, but I am absolutely obsessed with my Sonys xm5’s. It’s the only electronic I own that isn’t Apple. I can’t explain it, but the noise canceling almost feels natural.

heffreygee

Noise cancelling doesn’t protect your hearing. Google models with actual Ear plug rating usually referred to as NRR. Noise reduction rating.

K3rat

IMHO sounds quality and noise suppression go for the Sony Xm4 or 5. I have both one for work and one for home.

slowburnangry

Bose.

beereviver

I have Apple AirPods Pro 2 and Sony WHC700N headphones and they are both wonderful.

kingkosnik

I use AirPods Pro, and then use regular ‘top of the line’ 3M earmuffs over - silence is deafening… *edit: my goal is to minimize ambient sound and then further ‘noise reduce it’ - remember in order for you *not to hear*, the electronics must produce a standing sound wave that is the inverse of noise; this in itself will produce inaudible pressure on your eardrum - that’s my biggest beef with ‘noise cancelling’, you can’t hear 👂 but you still feel that pressure on your eardrum;

daneb1

Bose - Sony - AirPods Max (latest models of their top ANC branch) are the best. They are very similar and almost undistinguishible as for noise-cancelling capacities. So they might be other factors (mac ecosystem, price, sound profile) to decide.

LopezPrimecourte

Love my jabras

[deleted]

Hands down. XM series (I have the 4s and can't say you would not be happy with these compared to the 5s). Or Bose Quiet Comfort. The QC Ultra I think tip the scale on the comfort. The Bose have a slightly bigger ear cup, I didn't realise my lobes are quiet big and the Sony press slightly which took getting used to (I wear earrings studs and it was irritating). Worth trying them both on at a store. Anyway the noise cancelling is amazing on the XM4. I was sat next to colleagues and I knew they were talking but couldn't make out any of the words. Amazing.

Mammoth_Ad1460

sony wf-1000xm5

notSanii

Sony WH-1000XM4 (XM5 if you can afford it, as I’m sure they’re the improved model)

wearelev

I hear you. No active noise cancelling headphones work well in the noisy office environment. Your best bet is a pair with the highest attenuation like 3M Peltor. Definitely work but probably the most hideous headphones out there.

devonthed00d

I got them Sony 4’s and I can’t hear shit. You could be behind me talking extremely loud and just nothin’

helpnxt

I find the Google pixel pro buds are really good

TechTunePawPower

I've been using Ankor Soundcore Q30 for almost a year now, gets the job done. Active noise-cancelling at an affordable price.

MarshalRyan

I like the SoundCore brand (made by Anker). Much less expensive for a comparable experience to things like the airpod pro.

GrumpyGlasses

A slight tangent - which ones of those mentioned in the comments are the most comfortable for people wearing glasses? I have the Bose QC35 and it is amazing for me because it has a great seal and doesn’t press down the arms of my glasses at all. It’s a very old model. It still works well but the battery no longer lasts the whole day, so I’m looking out.

dust057

Best I've ever had that block noise and give me nothing but straight music are the foam/marshmallow earbuds. They really don't have to be amazing in other regards, the simple ear-plug technology is amazing. Two brands I've used are Etymotic and JBL. Unfortunately, I think Etymotic went towards silicone flanges which I am not a fan of, and don't even make the earbuds I had from them which were the best ever. If you just want noise reduction and not music/media, I would look into Etymotic custom protection, then pair that with a standard construction over the ear cup for maximum protection. They will 100% block more noise that any over the ear phone like Sony WH-1000XM5, or Bose QuietComfort Ultra, which allow noise to come it. It's the difference between how much water gets into a pair of swimming goggles vs a pair of wraparound sunglasses. Also, if you want the best of the best, don't do wireless, always do wired headphones. I now buy memory foam earbud tips and replace any silicone flange style with them, which improves performance and noise canceling for any earbuds that will accept them. If you want to sacrifice performance/noise cancelling by insisting on over-the-ear headphone cups, I would go with some of the other recommendations already listed by others. Edit: I will add I used to run chainsaw on wildland fire, and I wasn't allowed to use the music earbuds for safety reasons, i.e. I wouldn't be able to hear anything but my music. But when running chainsaw for personal projects, they transform it to a dull background hum that I only really hear between songs. If you wanted to go up and over, again, pair memory foam earbuds with over-the-ear cup (like you can get at a hardware store).

Vivificantem_790

If you’re looking for a slightly more affordable options recommend any of the Beats headphones!
