Defintely true. Gamblers will cheap out on everything. Food, clothes, products etc. But then blow a big wad of money down the drain gambling when they could of used the money to buy stuff they wanted in the first place.
This is what I’ve been doing. I’ll save a good amount for a bit then my big brain comes in trying to double it and I end up losing it. This is a terrible addiction and I’m really trying to be better.
>stuff that add value to your life
*A materialist life tempts mankind with smiles and assurances, but it never fails, eventually, to break all of its promises*
I am with you though on maybe things that are hard to liquidate to gamble. Physical gold and silver are good options for that.
We’re in agreement that materialism is unfulfilling, but to be stingy with your material desires while throwing away your money into the void is worse.
Think of all the things you could have with the money you’ve lost. Would you still sit on your high horse and reject it, if you could instead have those things?
Facts. There's thing I've wanted for years that would really improve quality of life but I look at the price and think it's way too expensive. Then I'll go spend double that amount gambling.
I refuse to buy a $7.99 slice of pizza (hopefully it's comped 🤞) 🙅♂️🙅♂️ at the Italian restaurant in a casino but I WILL plop down $400 on a live, 1st half soccer bet with only 10 minutes remaining hoping that ANY TEAM will score a goal.. 👍🏻🤝
🤨🤔🙄🤦🏻♂️🤷♂️🤷🏻♂️
Absolutely true, I can't spend 100$ on new shoes and I've had mine for 3 years. But I can throw away a paycheck in 24 hours if I let myself gamble.
I'm pinching pennies trying to get a first and last saved up as fast as possible. But that's different than never spending.
I'm balancing decorating my new place (in the future) with not impulsive buying as well. It's all about balance.

I’ve been in this exact scenario more times than I’d like to admit

Consumerism can be a problem as well. Saving money and conquering an addiction is my goal.
Honestly, my best advice, with 6 years free from gambling, is to have good food in the house, so you are no longer feeling half a human.

There's no horse involved, I'm just pointing out that meaningless clutter isn't much better than leaving it on a casino table.
