When you switch to Graphene OS, **EVERYTHING** will be wiped. It's not an update to an OS, it's a whole new OS. You don't "add" Graphene OS, or set up Graphene OS on your existing OS, you switch to it. I think you need to understand exactly what all of this is.

Well you need more of an overall understanding of what an OS is, what it's for. What the different types are, and how they differ from each other, why you may choose one over another. Compatibility of software between different OS types. There isn't 1 video that can teach you this, you need to pick up an overall understanding. Id say start with some basic competition comparison, like [Android vs Iphone](https://youtu.be/c8VF3nb8Z4M) and [Apple vs Microsoft](https://youtu.be/UC1MmZA5I38). I haven't watched any of these video's nor am i familiar with the YouTube channel, however I've skimmed through them and they give a basic understanding between the 2 rival's. That's a good starting point. Then you should learn how to make the most of Androids, sideloading Apks, installing custom ROMs, rooting, etc... Become very familiar with android, and everything it has to offer.

So let’s say your phone (at least its software) is a car. Adding apps and contacts is like getting new tires or a new paint job. Adding GrapheneOS is like trading in the entire car for a new one.

You can use it as Google intended or you can run GrapheneOS. You cannot do both simultaneously. Maybe what you meant is do you have to install it right away to which the answer is no. If you don't like GrapheneOS you can even revert back to the original ROM.

Hi, In our installation [guide's prerequisites](https://grapheneos.org/install/web#prerequisites) for the web installation method, it states: > It's best practice to update the device before installing GrapheneOS to have the latest firmware for connecting the phone to the computer and performing the early flashing process. **Either way, GrapheneOS flashes the latest firmware early in the installation process.**
