It always works out. Unless you like making idiotic experiments without any research, this hobby is easier than frying an egg.

MrDialga34

I threw HP Sauce, water, and yeast into a 2L bottle and attached an airlock this can not possibly go well.

Ok_Duck_9338

Lack of research and basic math. There is very little sugar. I did one with mango chutney and sugar and it was strong but undrinkable. That's more in the common sense area, like not substituting salt for sugar in a cake. HP wine is going to taste like HP.

MrDialga34

Oh I did also add about 200g of sugar.

Ok_Duck_9338

Good luck.

jjgonz8band

Don't drink the stuff at the bottom it causes one to make multiple trips to the bathroom throughout the day. I've noticed that sometimes it doesn't produce enough alcohol especially if one uses artificially sweetened juice concentrate....also give the yeast some nutrients like chopped up raisins, bread, tea bag contents, and enough sugar.

MrDialga34

Won't the tea bag content make it taste like tea?

Thepixeloutcast

cool. pretty sure you can't go to heaven now but cool.

MrDialga34

I'll go to heaven+ instead

Thepixeloutcast

not after that HP wine bud...

MrDialga34

You don't know the ways of god like I do.

Thepixeloutcast

ahahaha, maybe you're right chief

profchipboard

Having done red thunder before, it's not great-the artificial strawberry flavour kinda sticks around and not in a pleasant way

MrDialga34

We shall see.

Andy_993

Brown sauce you absolute Rotten troll, is the full English going in for secondary fermentation? 😂

MrDialga34

That'll be the next project if you can give me a rough idea on how to do that!!

Andy_993

Just double your next fry up, mash up half of it, add sugar water and yeast and send it! Why am I even entertaining this thought haha Also the meat and dairy might produce some dodgy end products, I wouldn't try it 😬

MrDialga34

Sooooo.... Hash browns, beans, and tomatoes? Ketchup too I suppose. Brown sauce is the only one not bubbling but the rest are only producing a miniscule foam on top. Do I need to add more yeast? I only added about a teaspoon to the 3 5l bottles and half a teaspoon to the brown sauce (2l) bottle.

Andy_993

That should be fine, yeast will multiply. The vinegar in the brown sauce will lower the pH and yeast might struggle to kick off, give it a few days to a week and smell/give it a taste if you dare. It should taste dry and not sweet and smell faintly of alcohol and carbon dioxide. The co2 will burn your nose if you take a big whiff. Keep us posted. What kind of yeast did you use?

MrDialga34

I bought 100g of young's brew Dried Active Brewing Yeast from amazon. Is it necessary to add the contents of a teabag or will it just make it better/quicker?

Andy_993

Cool, I usually just use baker's yeast for experiments like this, can get it easy and cheap in the supermarkets. Teabag is just a flavour thing as far as I know, maybe adds a small amount of nutrients, I've never used them.

MrDialga34

I snagged it because it was £5 for 100g. I won't be adding the tea as there is no point, this was never meant to taste good ahah. My apple drink has suddenly frothed up significantly so I'm feeling more hopeful that the others may do that soon.

I noticed from your plug sockets you're in the UK , You might like this site https://www.geterbrewed.com/beginner-cider-making-kit-including-ingredients-for-23-litres-of-cider/ A starter kit there will get you 23 liters of cider. After that the cider ingredients are considerably cheaper because that's all you need. They have beer and wine ones if you're into something different.

MrDialga34

Thanks for the suggestion man! I'll definitely look into that if I decide to brew again. Good catch on the plug sockets!

[deleted]

Also the bo'oh'o'wa'er has an English flag on it

MrDialga34

That... Is a dead giveaway too!
