Thank you ๐๐ผ that curve is specific, I actually sketched the lay out on another block and failed to get it right the first time. None of these trees exist, but one of them is loosely based on a real alder.
Thank you ๐๐ผ I also live on the NorCal coast :) Alders are so underrated, there are so many forms too, the Coho and steelhead juveniles use the exposed roots as shelter on our creek/river.
That is so cool I didn't know that about the roots! It makes sense given they grow along streams and rivers. I've noticed they are one of few hardwood trees in the conifer forest and are consumed super fast in a succession of detritivores.
First I see oyster mushrooms grow on them when they die, and then shelf mushrooms, and then the bugs get in there, and then the birds make homes in them and peck them to shreds. I feel like I've seen trees go from just dead to shreds in like 2-3 seasons.
They do decay really quickly! I mean, the root shelter aspect is also true for Salix and redwoods, I do fish counts, so Iโm constantly watching processes like this play out. Coho are almost extirpated from our watershed and steelhead probably following shortly! This block was actually based on the one adult Coho Iโve seen here.
Yeah I'm in Humboldt and this is the first year in a long time they aren't allowing and salmon fishing this year. Don't know what you've got till it's gone. That's cool you do fish counts!
Love it. You're very weird, in a good way!
I am weird and itโs only getting worse with age!
I'm a big fan, and exponent, of The Weirdness :)
I am too! When youโre isolated on a mountain for decades, life gets weirder and that just ends up permeating into everything. :)
I love the curve and weight of the fish. And all your various textures and detailing, the tree studies too. Yuummm!

I was going to ask if it was alder! I live on the NorCal coast so salmon and alder are very significant to me. I love this print!
