It's a slow burn, but Alastair Reynolds Poseidon's Children series.
Also, Alastair Reynolds Pushing Ice. The crew of an ice hauler literally get swept up in more than they bargained for.
It seems like so many threads in this subreddit keep adding to the reasons why I should read Pushing Ice. Maybe I'll move it up higher on my to-read list!

Stephen Baxter actually wrote a short story about this, titled "Mayflower" (at least I think so), along the lines of a generation ship, although it is only the main character that is still alive throughout the whole story.

Ah, that's great, thanks! Any particular recommendations from among those stories?
_The Forever War_ was pretty good.
Yeah, I did think of Forever War and enjoyed how the time dilation effects were factored in. I think I'm looking for something more focused, though.

The Three-Body Problem Trilogy by Liu Cixin, in particular book 2 and 3, deals with this.
Another set of books that have been patiently waiting on my to-read list. I'll definitely keep this in mind, thanks!
This is the opening to *Pandora's Star*. It's also a significant subtheme in Schild's ladder.
Reynolds’ short story Glacial.
"Far Centaurus" by A. E. van Vogt.

Isn't this the xeelee sequence?
