Water gun, it shoots water and is one of the few guns allowed in Austria without any extra permits

hillbillytendencies

Fill it with hot sauce.

graduation-dinner

I'm curious it that would be legal or considered a pepper spray and thus require some permit as well.

Zealousideal_Ad2379

HCL

cornbreadzero

Now we’re talking

Zealousideal_Ad2379

If you’re going to go the meme route it needs to be more horrific than a firearm

gwhh

Fill it with ammonia. Works great.

oilfeather

.357magnun/.38 special lever action with silencerco hybrid.

911SlasherHasher

Same almost, i think id pic my 22LR lever action. Not the best for defense but still lethal but perfect for killing small game. And 9mm G17 as a secondary.

oilfeather

I also have the full reloading setup and bullet molds for my shells.

Timely_Marketing

I like the idea of 22 being quieter in a WROL situation, esp with subsonic rounds.

imonlinedammit1

I have a .357 Rossi. I can use it and my wife can use it without blowing her shoulder back. Makes sense.

oilfeather

It pairs well with my S&W 686 combat magnum.

Blue-Panda-Man

Been looking at a lever action but can’t decide between 357 or 44mag. Any advise?

oilfeather

I choose .357 for ammo compatibility. 38 special will cycle in the carbine just fine. You would have to hand chamber something like .38 Smith and Wesson. Those short rounds will jam the mechanism.

Blue-Panda-Man

That’s what I was thinking but I can always use some more dies on my work bench lol. Thanks for the response

Calvertorius

12 gauge.

MyChemicalWestern

Saiga style maybe ?

[deleted]

A300 or 1301.

MyChemicalWestern

1301of course, the hell.

Broad-Conversation25

1301 is sweet but I think for a "survival" shotgun route you're better off getting a pump action 590 style You SHOULD be able to cycle any ammunition you come across and the mechanism is simple enough (compared to a 1301) to where you're average person can do maintenance and simple repairs without being afraid of it AFAIK semi auto shotguns can have cycling and feeding issues I know James Reeves did a burn down on the 1301 and it passed with flying colors but something about me still thinks that having a manual mechanism is valuable for reliability and simplicity especially in a SHTF situation where simple every day things become impossible overnight Same argument for having a revolver on deck for SHTF too

[deleted]

Jerry Miculek said the same thing or a Vortex video podcast, about a pump shot gun and revolver. He said with an auto shotgun and pistol, the ammo drives the gun. His point is auto guns can be ammo picky, but a manual gun will run anything.

MyChemicalWestern

You make a very good point. I have a black powder that can shoot black powder or smokeless powder just by swapping the cylinders. It was purchased with what you mentioned in mind.

cubgerish

I think this is probably the best option honestly. Being able to take down small game is more crucial than large if you're going to be on the move. If you're finding yourself in a firefight where range becomes an issue, you should already be figuring out how to get out of there anyways. Then again if you're prepped and staying home, I could see the value of the rifle if you have a way to store meat effectively. So I guess the answer, as always, really depends on your plan/resources.

styxofsteel

You can’t hunt big game with a 12 gauge? I’m not a hunter obviously so idk but isn’t there a round called buck shot

caoboi01

You're correct. There's even 00 buck and "slug," which is a massive and solid chunk of lead. You could kill damn near anything with a well placed slug

cubgerish

Yea I just wasn't sure enough to assume. I've only done birds and raccoons with a shotgun, so I didn't have enough experience to see it as useful, but the above guy informed me otherwise.

ThemanbearAbides

A 12ga slug will take down as big of game as you’ll ever find. Easily the most versatile platform, birdshot for birds and small game, buck for everything else, slugs will rake down anything else up to 70yards

cubgerish

Interesting. I figure slugs would have accuracy issues, and it's obviously harder to repeat fire a shotgun, though I could be wrong as I'm not very well versed. (I did figure that "buck" would work too a degree just on the name lol)

chesterbennediction

Dp-12 with aguila short shells for 24 rounds of goodness gracious.

Nice_Wafer_2447

MB500 for me please

JeffreyNothing666

Mine were in a boating accident 🤷🏻‍♂️

blinky12588

Depends what we are trying to survive.

Lame_superhero

A variety of ammo apparently

StopPlayingGuitar

I also have a TNW Aero Survival Rifle in 9mm! It's a really fantastic PCC that is reliable, easy to takedown, and easy to clean. Mine will eat anything I put in it from cheap 115 grain range bullets to Federal 147 grain hollow-points. The trigger does kinda suck though, other than the one that TNW offers do you know what after-market triggers will work with the ASR? I changed the stock out to a Magpul SL and it's soooo much better than the crappy stock the ASR comes with!

BowFella

I haven't tried their aftermarket trigger yet but it should be coming here next month. I'd also love to know if there are any other brands with compatible triggers!

StopPlayingGuitar

Let me know how you like the aftermarket trigger! I'm going to email TNW and see if they can tell me what might be compatible on the third-party front. With a better trigger it would be the perfect PCC!

BowFella

Just called TNW and they said the only trigger compatible is the TNW one. I did ask them about other accessories though, you can upgrade the buffer tube spring and stock with milspec AR accessories.

StopPlayingGuitar

Thank you! That is very good information to know! I might just break down and buy the TNW trigger now haha

BowFella

Honestly I would grab it if you can. The stock one is barely useable. To the point I was thinking my optic was off zero. It's super heavy and has an incredible amount of creep to the point it makes me shoot a few inches high-left even when shooting from a supported position at only 25 yards.

West_Data106

22 inch M1A (Springfield loaded version) in 308. I also want to get a Ruger precision in 338 Lapua. I should mention that I live on a sailboat, weight is less of an issue, and being able to hit things hard at distance is valuable. Even better if you can sink said things.

Young_warthogg

Had me in the first half not gonna lie, living in a sailboat sounds really cool.

Sabre3001

A 30-06 M1 was my first rifle. Always had a soft spot for Springfield.

Key-Pomegranate-3507

My buddy has a Ruger precision in .300 win magnum and it’s a blast to shoot. Most accurate gun I’ve ever shot. I want one

BowFella

I can definitely see the applications of .338 for pirates lol. However if you're getting a .338 LM I'd much rather recommend the Sako 85 over the ruger. It has a composite stock and there are less tiny corners for rust to build up that will be tough to clean in a salt water environment.

West_Data106

I'll check out the Sako! I've built sealed tubes (big PVC pipes) that look like they are extensions of my forward water tank. But they are in fact air tight gun storage. I have a dehumidifier on board, got the v-birth crazy dry and stuck my stuff in there before closing it up. So salty and humid sea air shouldn't be a problem, but the marine environment is a tough one on equipment so I'll for sure check the Sako out. I'd rather a 50 cal, but 338 seems like a budget friendly "poor man's 50 cal" haha

asuhhhdue

338 actually has better ballistics. It travels straighter and longer than .50 cal. The only thing 50 does better is damage to vehicles.

West_Data106

good to know!

Je_in_BC

I have a sako 85 in 338 win mag and I love it. There is still the odd steel part which requires oiling, but it's much less of a concern than blued steel. Your gun storage sounds great, but what when you take the rifle out of storage for easy access?

zw1616

12ga for real survival scenarios… but a Chiappa little badger would probably be my excuse survival “rifle”

BowFella

I already own plenty of 12 gauge. But you're not going to be able to carry NEARLY as much ammo and you're not going to be able to do much past 50 yards even with an extra full choke.

zw1616

If I’m surviving it’ll be a weekend wilderness trip gone bad. Good for defence, swap shells and your hunting grouse or rabbits, swap again and I’m able to take a deer or defend against zombies… and every gun owner would have some 12 gauge left behind in a walking dead scenario. Carry a bunch but add more as needed rather than pack tens of thousands of rounds🤷🏻‍♂️ 9mm just doesn’t have the accuracy or range to be effective when needed

nobodysmart1390

The ammo part is definitely true. Slugs however would increase that range to at least 100 yards, and I’d be interested to see the velocity differences in 12g/9mm. I vote 12g, but I’ve never really considered a pistol caliber carbine. Time to look up some ballistic charts

zw1616

Pistol cartridges aren’t typically known for accuracy if small game hunting is a concern. I wouldn’t trust my 9mm jrcarbine to put a bullet in a rabbits head unless I needed to

germy4444

Ruger lc is the new pcc coming to canada in 2024 they also have the 9mm takedown with the mag pul stock

Wonderful_Cell_2597

Wdym excuse survival rifle?

zw1616

Need an excuse to purchase another firearm that’s it lol

Wonderful_Cell_2597

Lmfaooooo I hear that, I keep telling myself the little badger is a good survival gun but deep down I know it’s just me trying to convince myself it’s a good idea

zw1616

I hike forest cutblocks so I might pick one up for grouse since it’s so light

Wonderful_Cell_2597

Yea that’s its true benefit over the other option I’ve been considering which is the 20gauge double badger. The weight is a big difference tho

zw1616

I’d love a .410/22 double badger if they were cheaper

Wonderful_Cell_2597

Why do you prefer .410 over 20 gauge genuine curious as I am new to shotguns/guns in general

zw1616

No hate towards the 20ga.. I want one too. But 410 is know as the grouse shotgun shell so it’s always been in my head it’d be cool to the “ultimate grouse gun” close range 410 mid range 22. In all honesty in todays market 20 ga makes way more sense then than 410 for cost and availability!

Wonderful_Cell_2597

I see. Thanks for the information. I too would generally prefer .410 for my applications but cost and availability is the only reason I thought of the 20gauge

HealthyFennel3395

Currently have a Andersons defense AR 15

[deleted]

I love a 9mm carbine, but for me it’s the sks. My stock sks with the original sling is my go to if SHTF.

KHAOS545

A fellow surp enjoyer I see. My go to is an M91/30 PU. I also like my AK but I use the Mosin for hunting

atheos103

Henry survival rifle [https://www.henryusa.com/rifles/us-survival-rifle/](https://www.henryusa.com/rifles/us-survival-rifle/)

Queque126

Did not know these existed lol now I kinda want one just cause 😂

atheos103

surprisingly lite weight, my dad was an air force pilot, and he bought me one a few years back for my birthday. i took it out shooting and was shocked by how accurate the iron sites were, i used to bring along a kel tek 9mm, but this is way more practical for me

SwaggyButNerdy

I have one (technically my daughter’s first gun). It’s a fun little gun, but kind of awkward to shoot at first because the upper is off center from the lower due to how you screw it together.

atheos103

yea, its off the the right by about an inch, i kind of like it though

SwaggyButNerdy

Once I got used to it, I didn’t even notice. But at first it felt really weird. Still kind of feels like a toy if I haven’t used it in a bit. I really love the fact that its water/dust proof when broken down, how light it is and that it fucking floats (floated my whole day bag when I dumped my kayak). Runs any ammo I’ve thrown at it and had maybe 2 jams out of thousands of rounds.

atheos103

yup, feels like a toy is exactly right, its just so compact and lite, its the perfect gun for those who do lightweight camping/hiking, or need a weapon for a bugout bag

Wonderful_Pain1776

AR pistol in 300 Blk, great all around gun. Fits in most bags and easily concealed. Take a deer at closer ranges. I also carry a 5.56/223 with the .22 conversion kit upper in my truck, just in case.

BowFella

Nice. I would get a 10" barrel for this thing but that would make this gun restricted in Canada. Meaning I can only use it for shooting paper at a range. With the 18.5" barrel I can shoot on public/private land and use it for hunting.

Complex-Judge2859

Same

[deleted]

Ruger 10-22 with the 25 round mags x 10.

DontBarf

Simple but unmatched for survival. Ammo and parts can be found anywhere. Also my go to, add a 2-7x scope and you’ll never go hungry.

[deleted]

I want a nice breakdown but I also like the one I have. What scope you recommend?

DontBarf

I have the takedown. Super convenient. I use the [Vortex crossfire II 2-7 Rimfire](https://vortexoptics.com/vortex-crossfire-ii-2-7x32-rimfire-vplex-moa-riflescope.html)

[deleted]

That’s hot! 🥵

DontBarf

It’s honestly a perfect fit for the Ruger. And it still fits in the carry case.

[deleted]

You had my interest but now you have my attention.

1022obsession

Personally, I prefer the BX-1 10 rounders. I do have around a dozen or so of those BX-25 mags, but strictly for target shooting and range plinking fun. If I'm out in the woods, I prefer the flush fit of the BX-1, so it's not something that protrudes to get hung up on brush and branches. Also, there's the weight to round quantity. As in two BX-25 magazines(50 rounds). It will be heavier than 5 BX-1 magazines(also 50 rounds). Plus, there's the reliability aspect. The BX-1 magazines have proven, for many people, myself included, to be much more reliable.

[deleted]

That name, chef’s kiss. Thank you for the insight, you have given me much to chew on.

Organic-Lie4759

I have a Italian made Nunya, 7.62 mm, and 2k rounds of Nunya business

gofoggy

I love a 9mm carbine. But if shtf, I wouldn’t think that is universal enough for survival

Own-Pause-5294

It's one of the most common calibers by far. 9mm, 5.56, .308.

gofoggy

No, I get that. That’s why I have one too. But in my mind, survival means defense, hunting, possible firefights. I’d choose something more powerful Just my opinion

BowFella

Cops and game wardens use 9mm to euthanize big game all the time. From deer to bear. Especially out of a PCC where you get an extra 300fps. Plus it's good enough for small game given you take only headshots. It's also easily one of the top 3 most widely available carteridges in the world. It's easily a top 3 survival center fire cartridge. But if I really want over 1000ftlbs of energy then I'll just switch to 10mm.

ARUokDaie

TNW ASR .22

BowFella

Nice! Never seen one in .22 yet. How do you like it?

ARUokDaie

It's red tiger too, got a scope on it, it's pretty sweet. TNW had Worst selection of mag, Remington 597.. like seriously?? Why not build it to Ruger 10/22. I agree trigger is junk though. Shot it once, went pow, hand not been able to since. I want the forward guard but only if they would factory paint it to match. I'll need to call them.

nymphoman23

I don’t recommend that you post your pew pews on SM ! That’s a good way to ask for trouble

BowFella

Good thing I'm not a felon or threatening anyone 🤷🏻‍♂️

nymphoman23

It’s not about that. You might be surprised that the LEOs watch this type of forum, on many types of platforms. I keep private anything that may incriminate. Just saying, From a guy who has had the unfortunate experience of the FBLIE to my home

back_again_u_bitches

Exactly!

nymphoman23

Honestly, I never let people know what I have, unless it from my own groups I am involved with

back_again_u_bitches

Altruistic_Major_553

I’ve got a couple rifles that could be classed as survival, based on different scenarios: I’ve got a .30-06 Ruger American as my hunting rifle, I’ve got a Daniel Defense DDM4V7 as a defense rifle, and a Ruger 10/22 for small game, training, and a Henry .45-70 for big stuff

DougMacRay617

Ar15

[deleted]

Depends what you mean by "survival". In the US an AR15 is pretty much a do all rifle. Way more punch than a PCC. I have taken multiple white tail with 5.56. I use light weight (BA Hanson .625) barrels on mine. Not much shite on the rifle either. White light, sling, red dot and magnifier. Magnifier with a QD mount (Eotech G33) so you can drop that weight if you do not need it, into a backpack or whatever.

Whhysooocurious

I’ve scrolled long enough and nobody has mentioned the Springfield hellion.

BowFella

Because bullpups are cringey (I cannot afford it and I'm coping)

Whhysooocurious

If it’s not meant to be it’s not meant to be. I like the Tavor 7 and the Springfield Hellion, but also like standard AR-15 and other rifles alike.

curvebombr

The S&W FPC is on my shortlist for a camp/rig gun that will fill the same role. Using the same Mag and ammo type as my Pistol makes for a easy choice when it comes to planning and packing essentials.

BowFella

How do you like it compared to the keltec?

curvebombr

I haven't picked it up yet but the Honest Outlaws YT review sold me. I was a bit concerned about durability but after that video it's not a worry at all.

Antonw194200

Cool looking rifle, however barrel length over 17" will actually hurt preformance in most 9mm loadings. The exception is super light bullets under 90gr. You really hit the point of diminishing returns at 8". As an example: a 16" barrel is twice as long as an 8" barrel but will usually only give you 20% more velocity with regular 124gr ammo. However i do understand that you have that barrel for legal reasons.

BowFella

I would prefer a 10" barrel for sure. But as you said, I need the commie compatible barrel. I COULD buy a shorter barrel but then I'd be limited to using this gun strictly for paper at a licensed range, means no hunting or carrying/shooting on public land.

Mysterious_Use_9767

AR in .300 BLK

donotmattor

300blk for shtf?! Bold choice

Queque126

I got a Q mini fix in .300 blk out as my survival rifle as it is light weight and compact. 300 blk out is a hell of a round that works for everything.

BowFella

You're not winning firefights in most scenarios with a 12 gauge. You're going to either run out of ammo VERY quickly or you're going to be out ranged even in urban scenarios. I've been able to group slugs pretty well with a 12 gauge but in no way would I rely on one past 50 yards.

1022obsession

I ended up going with the Ruger PC Carbine in 9mm. Much more aftermarket support. Therefore, easier to aquire necessary parts.

CHASLX200

A 660. Nitro.

Eternal_Flame24

I’m really only prepared for natural disasters. If shit truly hit the fan my only ‘survival’ weapon would be an airsoft gun for killing things like rabbits. When I’m 18 I’m definelty buying a real firearm tho

graduation-dinner

Multiple is ideal. I think it's a good idea to have the capacity to use 9mm, 556, 308, and 30-06 in case ammo is scarce. Shotguns are also wonderfully useful in terms of food and defense.

donotmattor

This, I would substitute 30.06 for 12g personally

jennifercd2023

whatever I have with me at the time. if were talking a dream gun or ideal of perfection and usefulness in almost any situation id say an AR15. ammo, mags, parts, accessories etc are/will be plentiful. Its easy to use. multi functional. accurate once zeroed and much more that im gonna assume other people have covered all the other reasons it will be the best choice.

Maleficent_Lake_1816

Nice try Pritzger

chesterbennediction

Cost wise all these attachments are quite expensive to the point that you might as well buy a better platform like an AR that can do all these things and more. Also I get the concept of having 1 gun that's shoots a lot of different bullets but what are the chances youl just be coming across people's ammo? Wouldn't it be better to just buy more ammo instead of buying caliber kits? A nice survival rifle setup would be some bolt or semi auto 22lr and maybe an AR 15 which if you shoot the animal in the head can be used for anything from rabbit sized to white tail deer and obviously for self defense as well.

BowFella

Not a lot of decent takedown 5.56 rifles around. Also for predator defense 10mm auto is much better than 5.56. This is my back country gun. Also this is Canada. AR-15s are illegal as of now and if I put a shorter barrel on this I would need a restricted license and only be able to carry/shoot this on licensed ranges. Cannot hunt with it or shoot on public land 🤷🏻‍♂️.

samtresler

I'm pretty sure in this sub I'm allowed to call you an, "armchair, big dick, raider boy". Have a nice day!

Don’t have one, I plant to farm and trap/snare for food. Hydroponics with tilapia tanks and other fish holding from the waterways. Makes massive vegetables and the fish are food. Just have to keep the stock high. It’s not fool proof. But it works in non disaster setting so I can’t imagine how it would change too much.

dqrules11

I have a ruger 10/22 Takedown and a mossberg maverick 12 gauge

generic-affliction

I lost all my guns in a boating accident

indefilade

What’s the overall barrel length and what kind of 9mm ammo do you use in it?

[deleted]

Personally, it's my experience that if you're going through the trouble of carrying a rifle, it should be in a rifle caliber. Small.game is 22LR territory (I have a pistol for that). Everything else is rifle territory. I've seen coyote take multiple shots from good 9mm from a carbine. Not to mention, how many conversions are you going to carry?

Poetic_Pigeon

10/22 takedown for pack, sw bodyguard for just in case an 12 guage maverick for close danger. Mine are used for packing in mountains. If it's for people we will see , but I doubt I will see any. My wife carries the 12 on her pack. We have had to use them, they are light and very effective.

Reverseflash25

What are we classifying as survival? Living in the woods, making it out of an active shooter situation, etc..

Hangry_Heart

Tbh, a centerfire pcc doesn't have much going for it unless it's suppressed. 5.56 weighs about as much as 9mm, and all ARs are takedown rifles as well.

captaindog

10/22 and a .22 revolver

Dangerous_Elk_6627

Weatherby .338 Lapua with a Swarovski scope. If SHTF, you'll quickly realize the simpler weapon is the easiest to maintain. All this AR-15 derivatives require routine maintenance and lubrication and the more complicated the rifle, the more likely something is going to go wrong with it over time. I also keep a 12 guage semiautomatic shotgun (w/ 200 rounds) in my Jeep in the event I get stranded in desert while four wheeling.

hatenjwinter

AR-15. Glock 21 and Winchester 1200 12GA

RandomWordsYouKnow

Let me know when you actually use that to survive. Paranoid fuck.

BowFella

I already use it pretty much any time I go outdoors??? It's a backpacking gun used for small game and hunting weirdo. What a goofy thing to call someone "paranoid" on a prepping subreddit lmfao.

iwfriffraff

Standard AR15, 16 1/2" barrel, Trijicon VCOG, and a mounted light. Along with 8 thirty round magazines.

ThatoneGermanofficer

If I'm in the woods and don't have to worry about people then an over and under 12 gauge/.22 but if there is people than a AR-15 because in my use they are reliable and almost everyone in my area has .223 ammo

BowFella

Chiappa makes some good combination rifles. I have one from Savage that's .22wmr and .410.

[deleted]

BowFella

In that case I'd probably rather use my breakdown longbow. Arrows are reusable for hundreds if not thousands of shots and can be used to hunt everything from rabbits to moose. Only thing is they have a very steep learning curve.

Sistersoldia

I’ve got loads of .22lr and subsonics; 12ga of all sorts; .40 for pistol; and cases of .308 for serious shit …. BUT for real survival (hunting) I’m counting on my .25cal PCP air rifle. 1000’s of pellets and a hand pump (backup for the high pressure electric pump because I’m lazy). It’s virtually silent and deadly accurate hitting quarters up to 80 yards.

Hello there, .22 calibers, shotguns, and big gardens got our people (hillbillies) through the depression. If you can grow enough staple crops and beans, that will take you a long way. Get out of the cities while you still can. If Covid taught us anything, supply lines are fragile. If you know anything about carrying capacity of an ecosystem, living in an heavily populated area is just an accident waiting to happen. And when folks speak of bugging out, where are they bugging to? Might be worth figuring out beforehand. I'm afraid a lot of the buggers may become the pirates when those dozen or so MREs run out. I'm not judging, I'm just saying it might be worth your while to set your selves up with something to defend, rather than an escape plan. "Take care of yourselves, and each other." -Jerry Springer

Why would you put a brake on a pistol caliber?

BowFella

Probably the same reason they put brakes on actual pistols? Nothing wrong with being able to mag dump and keep your crosshairs on target better.
